A locally-made TV commercial of the hospital, shot entirely in DPOTMH and conceptualized, directed, cut, and edited by our very own whiz kids at the Marketing & Client Relations Office, has been picked up by Kapatid TV5 and Aksyon TV International for airing abroad. The 30-seconder commercial features our very own DEM Chairman, Dr. Ian Noel Jarabas talking about the strong commitment of DPOTMH to its patients. The commercial is being aired regularly in the Middle East, Europe, North Africa, and Guam with an approximate subscriber count of 55,000 households or roughly 400,000 viewers. It is shown alongside commercials of Maynilad, NLEX, Philex, Meralco, Smart, and PLDT.

The DPOTMH opened its newly renovated Delivery Complex specifically the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the Triage, and the Recovery Room (RR) last December 16, 2011’ amidst simple blessing rites officiated by Fr. Dominic Dexter Somcio. The blessing was attended by members of the Management represented by President Arlene P. Ledesma, Corporate Finance Officer Socorro Victoria L. De Leon, and Medical Director Jose Maria R. Coruna, M.D. On hand also were the Chairperson for the Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Ma. Antonia Gensoli and the Acting Chairperson for the Department of OB/GYNE Dr. Jennie Uy-Kho. Other consultants and residents also attended.

The newly renovated Delivery Complex features better facilities and safety amenities for all admitted mothers and newborns. It was opened to the public on December 23, 2011.

Last December 5, 2011, the Management of the DPOTMH officially opened and blessed the new Chemotherapy & Blood Transfusion Room at the 2nd floor of the Hospital. The fully air-conditioned room is equipped with four La-Z Boy-type chairs and a TV set for the convenience and comfort of patients. All infusion procedures, including chemotherapy and similar IV procedures, may be performed in this area. Patients may choose to schedule an appointment through their doctor or through the Emergency Room.

Also included in the blessing were the nearby offices and call room of the Departments of Internal Medicine, Surgery, ENT/Ortho, and Anesthesia.

The blessing was attended by DPOTMH President Arlene Ledesma, Materials Management Head Mark Torre, Corporate Finance Officer Socorro Victoria De Leon, Total Quality Head Dr. Henry Alavaren, and Asst. The Panasiatic Solutions Call Center, located at the Circumferential Road near Lopue’s East Department Store has tapped the services of the DPOTMH to operate and maintain their medical clinic. DPOTMH nurses will be assigned to the medical clinic to cater exclusively to the employees and staff of the call center. This project was made successful through the efforts of the DPOTMH Wellness Clinic and the DPOTMH Marketing Office.

MANILA, Philippines - The International Football Federation (FIFA) has appointed Monico Puentevella, chairman of Philippine Olympic Committee and advisory council member of Philippine Football Federation (PFF), to the body’s powerful Marketing and TV Committee.

Puentevella’s appointment was contained in an official communication dated Dec. 30, 2011 from Fifa secretary general Jerome Valcke, who said the world body “looks forward to welcoming Puentevella to Zurich, Switzerland” as he assumes the position.

The Marketing and Television Committee, which is headed by Marios Lefkaritis of Cyprus, advises Fifa’s Executive Committee “with regard to drafting and implementing contracts between Fifa and its various marketing/television partners and analyzing marketing and television strategies that have been devised.”

Puentevella is said to be the only Filipino in recent years to be named to the prestigous Fifa hierarchy. This will actually be his second time to serve Fifa after being a member of the world body’s equally powerful Media Committee many years back.

Members of the DOH inspection team were thoroughly impressed with the facilities and processes of the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital during their annual inspection conducted last September 28, 2011.

Dr. Raymond Majini, head of the DOH inspection team, said the hospital passed with flying colors and should very well be a Center of Excellence. It should be noted that amongst all the inspectors, Dr. Majini opted to conduct his inspection by himself, foregoing any assistance from members of our Total Quality Division. What he saw verily impressed him and his team. Of all the areas in the hospital, their inspection concentrated mainly on the Laboratory, Dietary, Hemodialysis, and the OPD.

The inspection team arrived at the hospital around 10:30 am. They were met by Mr. Miguel Gargantiel of Licensing and Mr. Chuck Estrella of the Client Relations Office and were brought up to the Doctors’ Lounge for a Courtesy Call with members of the ManCom and the various Department Heads.

DPOTMH President & CEO, Arlene Ledesma congratulated Dr. Henry Alavaren and the Total Quality Division for orchestrating the accreditation activity. She also acknowledged the efforts of all those who helped present Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital in the best possible light.

Jose Eugenio “Gino” Hautea from the Infection Control Office and Ruffy L. Severino from the OPD/ER attended the Programmatic Management of Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis training last August 21, 2011. The training tackled thoroughly the identification and treatment of TB at the Lung Center of the Philippines. They also had first-hand exposure at the Quezon Institute. The month-long training imparted to Hautea and Severino the skills necessary to administer and manage the soon-to-open Regional TB Treatment Center here in the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital (DPOTMH). The Center will be headed by Dr. Alvin J. Parreño.

It was through an extensive selection process by both the Department of Health (DOH) and the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP) that the DPOTMH was selected as the site for Regional Treatment Center for Multi-drug Resistant Tuberculosis in Negros Occidental. DPOTMH nurses, Hautea and Severino were thereafter tapped and sent to Manila to undergo training. The Management is expecting the Center to be in operation soon since the DOH has already forwarded the necessary equipments and funds to open the Centre to the public.

Globalization is where Negros is heading. Growth shouldn't be contained only to a particular locality or region. Just look how Cebu made it, the name itself is already known worldwide. :)

^^that's true migs...i'm sure you know about this since you're near this place. one of malaysia's main contributors to their tourism stats is medical tourism. its not really much of how competent their medical doctors are, filipino doctors as a matter of fact are more competent IMO, but its the presence of medical facilities that make people think that they will be taken cared of and they are in good hands. why would GMA would wnat to fly to singapore, spain or germany when we have enough competent doctors around. because doctors are as good only as there are medical facilities available within their reach.:)

True gid mig. Singapore do hire quite a fair number of foreign doctors including Pinoy Doctors into their medical tourism fold. This is proportional also as to the investments infused into hospitals and other medical complexes. Add to that, the city-state is SEA's leading spender in R&D.

Hoping we can replicate even just a portion of its success in the medical tourism sector. :)

True gid mig. Singapore do hire quite a fair number of foreign doctors including Pinoy Doctors into their medical tourism fold. This is proportional also as to the investments infused into hospitals and other medical complexes. Add to that, the city-state is SEA's leading spender in R&D.

Hoping we can replicate even just a portion of its success in the medical tourism sector. :)

Zest flies first int’l flight into Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY -- The Bacolod-Silay Airport in Negros Occidental ushered in on Saturday its first international commercial flight with Zest Airways flying in from Incheon, South Korea.

Flight Z2 8053 departed Incheon at 8:30 a.m. and landed in Silay City at around 11:30 a.m.

A twice weekly Flight Z2 8052, meanwhile, is scheduled to leaves Bacolod-Silay Airport at 12:30 a.m. to arrive at Incheon at 5:30 a.m. every Wednesday and Saturday.

Zest Airways said these flights, utilizing an Airbus A320, will be available only from Jan. 7 to Feb. 25, 2012. On Feb. 26, roundtrip flights with the same schedule are also open for bookings.

Silay City Mayor Jose L. Montelibano said in an interview that the inaugural flight from Incheon carried 170 Korean tourists.

He said another airline, which he did not name, is also applying to launch flights from Silay to Singapore and vice versa.

The arrival of the Zest Airways flight from Incheon marked the first international landing of a Philippine-based airline at the Bacolod-Silay Airport since it started its operations in January 2008.

A chartered plane from Amaty, Kazakhstan had landed at the Bacolod-Silay Airport in January 2009 and brought in foreign investors who explored the medical tourism industry in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

The Bacolod-Silay Airport is categorized as a Principal Class 1 airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, meaning it is capable of serving jet aircraft with a capacity of at least 100 seats.

Ma. Mecine Torres Reyes, newly-designated officer-in-charge of the Bacolod-Silay Airport reportedly met with Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. at the Capitol last week to discuss plans and strategies to improve the condition of the airport.

The governor was said to have advised Ms. Reyes, who was previously assigned at Godofredo P. Ramos Airport in Caticlan, Aklan, to maintain a safe, secure, comfortable and clean airport since these are vital factors to attract tourists. Silay City Mayor Jose L. Montelibano said in an interview that the inaugural flight from Incheon carried 170 Korean tourists.

He said another airline, which he did not name, is also applying to launch flights from Silay to Singapore and vice versa.

The arrival of the Zest Airways flight from Incheon marked the first international landing of a Philippine-based airline at the Bacolod-Silay Airport since it started its operations in January 2008.

A chartered plane from Amaty, Kazakhstan had landed at the Bacolod-Silay Airport in January 2009 and brought in foreign investors who explored the medical tourism industry in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

The Bacolod-Silay Airport is categorized as a Principal Class 1 airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, meaning it is capable of serving jet aircraft with a capacity of at least 100 seats.

Ma. Mecine Torres Reyes, newly-designated officer-in-charge of the Bacolod-Silay Airport reportedly met with Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. at the Capitol last week to discuss plans and strategies to improve the condition of the airport.

The governor was said to have advised Ms. Reyes, who was previously assigned at Godofredo P. Ramos Airport in Caticlan, Aklan, to maintain a safe, secure, comfortable and clean airport since these are vital factors to attract tourists. Zest flies first int’l flight into Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY -- The Bacolod-Silay Airport in Negros Occidental ushered in on Saturday its first international commercial flight with Zest Airways flying in from Incheon, South Korea.

Zest Airways said these flights, utilizing an Airbus A320, will be available only from Jan. 7 to Feb. 25, 2012. On Feb. 26, roundtrip flights with the same schedule are also open for bookings.

Local officials Saturday called the arrival of direct flights from Korea to Negros Occidental until March a major breakthrough in tourism, which they hope will pave the way for more international flights landing at the Bacolod-Silay Airport soon.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. hosted a dinner on Saturday night at the provincial Capitol for airline and Korean travel officials who arrived on board the maiden ZestAir direct flight from Korea to Bacolod Saturday with 120 tourists on board, most of whom came to play golf.

It was piloted by Sunny Chan, a St. John’s Institute Class ’91 graduate.

This will be followed by 14 more flights arriving every Saturday and Wednesday.

New Italian resto opens in Bacolod

Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. and Pearl Manor Hotel owners Alex Tupas and Jhoanna Sian led the ribbon-cutting for the opening yesterday in Bacolod City of the Chef Carmine Cucina Italian Restaurant.

The owner, chef Carmine Pece, said the restaurant offers real and authentic Italian food. From the kitchen to the plating, the food he personally prepares have the rich flavor of Italian cuisine, Pece added.

For the opening, Pece prepared Bruschetta, sliced bread topped with fresh tomato, extra virgin olive oil, garlic, and herbs, Spagetti Pomodoro e’ Basilico with Italian tomato sauce, basil aroma, and Parmiggiano cheese, squash sauce, Italian sausage which he personally made, with Agnello alla Griglia, or the grilled lamb shoulder, as the main course.

He also said Marañon is a regular customer of his restaurant since it started operation in March 2011 and that the governor has been bringing some of his visitors to his restaurant.

Among his best sellers he said are Spaghetti alla Boscaiola, Spaghetti alla Vongole, and Spaghetti alla Carbonara. They are open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

In the restaurant are painted scenic places in the City of Avellino in Italy where Pece has his roots.*LTG

I don't have anything against "them" but I just hope they will come to realize that Bacolod is NOT the competition but CDO, Zamboanga, Davao and Cebu are, since these are regional capitals and Iloilo should be in a league of these cities not with provincial capitals, otherwise gin downgrade lg nila ila status lol

Governor bares gains to foreign community

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said Negros Occidental is one of the most peaceful provinces though there were still pockets of rebels in the hinterland.

Marañon who was guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Negros Expats' Group recently at Nature's Village in Talisay City, said the province was making good progress - better than the national average, a press release from the group said.

Speaking before nationals from the US, UK, Germany, Canada, Belgium, The Netherlands, Norway and a representative from the Czech Republic, he said improving the education system was also a high priority. His address was followed by an open forum where he answered questions on favorite expat topics such as traffic controls and garbage.

On the cattle and sheep project, of the provinces he said expats will soon be able to enjoy high quality local beef and lamb. He said they can look out in future to a delicious lamb lechon specially developed to take full advantage of the wider availability of good quality lamb meat, the press release added.*

Chinatown incentives offered

The Chinatown Ordinance authored by Ang and Councilor Dindo Ramos, was approved on the last week of December 2011 by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod.

Ang said that if an individual would like to put up a welcome arch in the Chinatown Center, 70 percent of the cost of the structure will be paid by the city in the form of Tax Credit Certificate which will be spread over a period of five years.


The private sector is entitled to a refund of his order expenses equivalent to 70 percent in the form of Tax Credit Certificate for putting up projects and improvements provided that it is approved by the BCCDC chaired by the mayor, for being consistent with the master plan of the city.*CGS

Guv to meet mayors on sheep production


Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. will meet all mayors in Negros Occidental tomorrow at his office at the Provincial Capitol Building in Bacolod City, to discuss pasture development and management practices in sheep production.

“This year we will be venturing into sheep production, which I believe could significantly contribute to our local economy as one of the alternative livelihood opportunities for marginal farmers,” the governor wrote the mayors.

Marañon, in his letter to the mayors, said that in the development of the sheep industry, the province is establishing a public-private partnership as a joint venture of the pre- and post production within and outside Negros.

The Negros Occidental is purchasing 6,000 heads of sheep from Australia that are expected to leave Perth on January 19 and arrive in about two weeks time.

Marañon said his agenda is food security for the province and making it an agriculturally productive and self-sustaining one, not only in crops but in livestock as well.*LTG

For the opening, Pece prepared Bruschetta, sliced bread topped with fresh tomato, extra virgin olive oil, garlic, and herbs, Spagetti Pomodoro e’ Basilico with Italian tomato sauce, basil aroma, and Parmiggiano cheese, squash sauce, Italian sausage which he personally made, with Agnello alla Griglia, or the grilled lamb shoulder, as the main course.

He also said Marañon is a regular customer of his restaurant since it started operation in March 2011 and that the governor has been bringing some of his visitors to his restaurant.

Among his best sellers he said are Spaghetti alla Boscaiola, Spaghetti alla Vongole, and Spaghetti alla Carbonara. They are open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

In the restaurant are painted scenic places in the City of Avellino in Italy where Pece has his roots.*LTG

His address was followed by an open forum where he answered questions on favorite expat topics such as traffic controls and garbage.

On the cattle and sheep project, of the provinces he said expats will soon be able to enjoy high quality local beef and lamb. He said they can look out in future to a delicious lamb lechon specially developed to take full advantage of the wider availability of good quality lamb meat, the press release added.*

Direct flights from Korea a ‘tourism breakthrough’

Local officials Saturday called the arrival of direct flights from Korea to Negros Occidental until March a major breakthrough in tourism, which they hope will pave the way for more international flights landing at the Bacolod-Silay Airport soon.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. hosted a dinner on Saturday night at the provincial Capitol for airline and Korean travel officials who arrived on board the maiden ZestAir direct flight from Korea to Bacolod Saturday with 120 tourists on board, most of whom came to play golf.

It was piloted by Sunny Chan, a St. John’s Institute Class ’91 graduate.

This will be followed by 14 more flights arriving every Saturday and Wednesday.

Guv to meet mayors on sheep production


Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. will meet all mayors in Negros Occidental tomorrow at his office at the Provincial Capitol Building in Bacolod City, to discuss pasture development and management practices in sheep production.

“This year we will be venturing into sheep production, which I believe could significantly contribute to our local economy as one of the alternative livelihood opportunities for marginal farmers,” the governor wrote the mayors.

Marañon, in his letter to the mayors, said that in the development of the sheep industry, the province is establishing a public-private partnership as a joint venture of the pre- and post production within and outside Negros.

The Negros Occidental is purchasing 6,000 heads of sheep from Australia that are expected to leave Perth on January 19 and arrive in about two weeks time.

Marañon said his agenda is food security for the province and making it an agriculturally productive and self-sustaining one, not only in crops but in livestock as well.*LTG

COA okay on Capitol-ALI land deal expected this month

BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said the approval of the Commission on Audit on the Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) land deal is expected to be issued this month.

Marañon told reporters the COA committee en banc is set to meet this week for the approval.

Earlier, he said the documents covering the Capitol-Ayala land deal was forwarded to the legal department of COA after some clarifications were made.

Among the hitches seen was the road network inside the said property which was closed upon the recommendation of Marañon through the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

So far there are no more perceived hindrances to the COA’s approval of the development of the 7.7-hectare prime property owned by the Capitol and leased and sold to Ayala Land Inc.

Ayala Land Inc. intends to transform the property into what it calls as Capitol Civic Center – a one-of-a-kind convergence of business, community and governance.

Ayala Land will invest P6 billion for the development of a lifestyle center for shopping, entertainment and dining, a hotel to attract business tourism, Business Process Outsourcing offices, a multi-purpose events and convention center, residential and commercial zones with high-rise towers in the midst of private gardens, and a redeveloped Capitol Park as the focal point of the project.

Zest flies first int’l flight into Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY -- The Bacolod-Silay Airport in Negros Occidental ushered in on Saturday its first international commercial flight with Zest Airways flying in from Incheon, South Korea.

Flight Z2 8053 departed Incheon at 8:30 a.m. and landed in Silay City at around 11:30 a.m.

A twice weekly Flight Z2 8052, meanwhile, is scheduled to leaves Bacolod-Silay Airport at 12:30 a.m. to arrive at Incheon at 5:30 a.m. every Wednesday and Saturday.

Zest Airways said these flights, utilizing an Airbus A320, will be available only from Jan. 7 to Feb. 25, 2012. On Feb. 26, roundtrip flights with the same schedule are also open for bookings.

Silay City Mayor Jose L. Montelibano said in an interview that the inaugural flight from Incheon carried 170 Korean tourists.

He said another airline, which he did not name, is also applying to launch flights from Silay to Singapore and vice versa.

The arrival of the Zest Airways flight from Incheon marked the first international landing of a Philippine-based airline at the Bacolod-Silay Airport since it started its operations in January 2008.

A chartered plane from Amaty, Kazakhstan had landed at the Bacolod-Silay Airport in January 2009 and brought in foreign investors who explored the medical tourism industry in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

The Bacolod-Silay Airport is categorized as a Principal Class 1 airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, meaning it is capable of serving jet aircraft with a capacity of at least 100 seats.

Ma. Mecine Torres Reyes, newly-designated officer-in-charge of the Bacolod-Silay Airport reportedly met with Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. at the Capitol last week to discuss plans and strategies to improve the condition of the airport.

The governor was said to have advised Ms. Reyes, who was previously assigned at Godofredo P. Ramos Airport in Caticlan, Aklan, to maintain a safe, secure, comfortable and clean airport since these are vital factors to attract tourists. A long time ago Airphil Express proposed a Bacolod-Caticlan seasonal flights. But I dunno ngaa wala nag push thru since heavy ang traffic from Negros to Boracay during the summer months and holidays :banana:
