Good Evening Bacolod!!! I'm not really surprised why those in "tabok suba" are still clamoring about our first direct international flight last Saturday...it was even featured in US News Las Vegas few days ago...here's the article
Zest Airways maiden flight from Korea arrives Saturday in Bacolod

By PNA and U.S. News Agency / Asian

The first Zest Airways Philippines direct chartered flights from Incheon International Airport in Seoul, Korea to the Bacolod-Silay Airport here arrived around 11:30 Saturday morning with 170 tourists on board.

Newly-installed officer-in-charge of Bacolod Silay Airport Mecine Reyes said the direct flights were scheduled to arrive Wednesdays and Fridays until the end of February.

Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon said he asked Reyes to keep the airport safe and clean, especially its comfort rooms, and ensure that its employees are smiling, all are vital factors in attracting domestic and foreign tourists.

The provincial government welcomed the passengers with a dinner at the Provincial Capitol, Bacolod tourism head Imogene Kanaan said.

Reyes was previously assigned at the Caticlan airport that has 52 flights a day, while the Bacolod-Silay Airport only has about 15.

We hope this will be the start of more direct international flights from other countries to Negros Occidental, the governor said.

Reyes said she assumed her post as OIC of the Bacolod Silay Airport on Monday and has begun a clean-up drive.

She said the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) is also installing a radar as part of its upgrading moves at the Bacolod Silay Airport, sometime this year.

I think that more developments for BSIA will follow after the first international flight. amo pa lng na gni ang runway kanubo pwede na ka cater sang international flights, how much more if the other facilities will be developed and the runway will be extended...d na guid mapunggan ang pag soar sang Negros Occidental as a whole. This maiden flight is really a BIG deal not only for us but also for others...that's why they can't stop themselves from sourgraping...so pathetic! :)

elo pips, I'm quite amazed by this never ending bacolod vs iloilo debacle ah hehe. It's an age-old, perennial race to who will reign supreme in WV. While I have friends sa tabuk suba really good friends, I'm saddened by the attitude of some narrow-minded, traditionally inclined individuals who are themselves a dent on the loving nature of Ilonggos. I dunno why Bacolod's progress seems to be a big deal sa ila. If we celebrate success and life, manol na. We'll Negrenses always has a flair for the best, maybe due to the hacienda mentality that we have. That's why we're the best place to live in the entire archipelago because of our zest for life, of our attitude about giving life 101% and not merely settling for some ancient crown that no longer have bearing in today's economy. Bacolod is the region's undisputed transport capital with 60% of LTO registered vehicles here, our airport is already catering to international flights. We are WV's undisputed sports and medical hub with the best facilties at par with MM. We are also the financial and industrial hub, where most of insurance companies maintain their regional HQs here, 2 of our universities were accredited autonomous status by CHED (UNO-R and USLS) while sa tabuk ya maskin gabaha ang universities, only CPU was granted autonomy. I know that deep in their hearts they are aware that without bacolod and neg.occ WV will be left behind, that's why they oppose whatever development that we have here coz they know we are an economic powerhouse of the region. WV is the only region where the regional capital doesn't command everything unlike regions 7, 8, 9, 10 where cebu, tacloban cdo and davao respectively, dictate the flow of economy. So if I were them, they better work with us if they don't wanna be left sa kangkongan, which is slowly happening. Bacolod and Negros Occ can live without Iloilo, we have proven that after the sugar crisis. We were able to diversify and emerge as an economic bellwether. Question is, can they survive without Negros Occ? just my thoughts...

:cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers: couldn't agree more!!:cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:

so what if they have lots of domestic FLIGHTS?? so what? it doesn't mean na they have Domestic flights to those destinations, kita wala? remember, we also have TRIPS to those destinations but this time, sa barko...hahaha don't tell me may ara man Chartered trips na barko pa korea?:nuts::nuts::nuts::nuts:

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia signed Thursday City Ordinance No. 576, or an ordinance creating the Bacolod City Chinatown Center, at his office in the presence of council members and officers of Filipino-Chinese community.

Witnessing the ceremony were Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson and Councilors El Cid Familiaran, Bobby Rojas, Dindo Ramos, and Em Ang, Planning and Development officer Lemuel Reynaldo, Bacolod police chief Senior Superintendent Ricardo De La Paz, and City Tourism Officer Imogene Kana-an.

The Chinese community was represented by Bacoladiat Foundation president Leonito Lopue, vice chairman Crispin Chua and directors Terry Gochangco and Lily Go; 888 mall owner William Ong; BFCCCII president lawyer Ben Ortega; SNFCCCI president John Yap and directors Johnny Yap and Philip Yap; and Amity Brigade’s Enrique Dy.

The city ordinance creates the Bacolod City Chinatown Center out of the Shopping Center, a commercial district established for the Chinese. It became a prominent commercial center but lost its luster to other business centers.

The purpose of the ordinance is to facilitate the revival of the area into a prosperous commercial center run and operated by Filipino-Chinese.

The revival of the Bacolod Chinatown shall be undertaken by way of a public-private partnership.

Under the ordinance, the Filipino-Chinese investors are encouraged to finance the redevelopment of Shopping Center into a prosperous Chinatown Center. Seventy percent of these advances shall be returned to them in form of tax credits.

The upgrading of the area shall be administered by the Bacolod City Chinatown Development Council headed by the city mayor as chairman and the vice mayor as vice chairman.

Right after the signing of the ordinance, Leonardia convened the council.

During its organizational meeting, the council created several committees, namely the Master Plan committee; the Incentives, Trade and Industry committee; the Infrastructure committee; the Security and Traffic committee; and the Public Relations committee.

The council decided to hold its regular meeting every second Thursday of the month. (PR)

Nine new ethanol plants to cost P15B
MANILA - The Department of Energy is looking at fresh investments of around P15 billion from the construction of nine bioethanol plants with a capacity of 30 million liters each that will address the demand under the 10 percent bioethanol mandate.

"With the DOE circular, we expect them to come back," Layug said at the sidelines of the 2st Philippine International BioEnergy Conference. Current bioethanol production is only 79 million liters from the thre existing plants namely, San Carlos Bioenergy, Leyte Agri Corp. andRoxol Bioenergy.

Government expects an additional 133 million liters from three bioethanol facilities in the pipeline. Green Futures Innovations (54 million liters) is set for commissioning in March while Cavite Biofuels (34 million liters) and Kanlaon AlcoGreen (45 million liters) are expected to start production over the next two years.

This reminds me of the opinion blog (http://republicanegrense.com/2011/09/18/ilonggo-or-negrense/) I wrote last September 18, 2011 about the "identity crisis" facing much of the people in Negros Occidental. Some of our kasimanwas are calling themselves Ilonggos when we're really not. Let me quote:

Though most of the people in Negros Occidental are descendants of Ilonggos, these immigrants, together with the Spaniards, Frenchmen and Chinese who sought new lands for planting sugarcane in the virgin lands of Negros, created a society distinct from where they came from. Although linguistically related to the people of Iloilo, seclusion and economic circumstances consequentially developed the Negrénse identity.

HLURB promoting new land use plan

The Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board in Region VI is promoting a new approved Comprehensive Land Use Plan assistance in the region, which it hopes to complete by the end of December 2012.

She said they have identified 19 local government units in Negros Occidental, which includes Bacolod City, whose Comprehensive Land Use Plan needs updating.

When investors come, they first ask about the CLUP of a place to guide them about areas where developments should not be constructed, aside from identifying residential, commercial and agro-industrial areas, she said.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said that, in the case of Bacolod, “As we continue to grow, we believe planning becomes even more essential and we are an investment-conscious city.”

“We are hoping that through the CLUP, Bacolod can become even more attractive to investors, among others,” he said.*CGS

Guv opposes P97 wage hike
Labor leader says it’s needed
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said he is opposed to the P97 wage hike being sought for workers in Western Visayas.

If the wage hike being sought is too high, it could lead to the closure of some companies, he said.

He said any increase should be affordable and should not be across- the-board, as smaller firms may not be able to survive.

Meanwhile, the governor said he expects a consultancy firm hired by the provincial government to come up with its recommendations on the reorganization of Capitol employees before March.

He said more chemists and technicians will have to be hired by the provincial government for its newly established laboratory.

One office at the Capitol will have to be dissolved for being redundant and its personnel will be absorbed in other areas, or offered retirement packages, the governor also said.*CPG

Negos Occidental Aiming to Be ‘PHL Sheep Capital’
Submitted by Danny Dangcalan on Thu, 01/12/2012 - 17:42 Alfredo Maranon Bacolod City Business and Economy Danny Dangcalan

With the provincial government’s purchase of 12,000 high-bred sheep from Australia, Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. hopes to make Negros Occidental the “Sheep Capital of the Philippines.”

Marañon met with some Negros Occidental mayors and livestock breeders Tuesday to discuss the dispersal and breeding of 6,000 sheep purchased by the provincial government from Australia.

The provincial government has allocated P82 million for the purchase of the new sheep as well as for the structures to house them at the 159-hectare NEGROS FIRST Ranch in Brgy. Santa Rosa in Murcia town, Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said.

Decena said of the new 6,000 sheep, 2,000 will be retained by the provincial government for its breeding program, while the 4,000 will be sold to interested town and city governments for their own breeding and livelihood programs, and to livestock breeders in the province.

Those who say that we, people from Negros or Bacolod, are Ilonggos base their argument on the fact that we speak Hiligaynon, the dialect of the Ilonggos. But is this reasoning correct? Majority of the people living in Mindanao speak the Cebuano dialect, such as Davao. Are the people living in Davao known as Cebuanos? No, they are Dabawenyos. I am from Negros, therefore, I am a Negrense. I am from Bacolod, so I am a Bacoleño.

Kung ancestry naman ya ang ila i-rason, then I don't think the Australians and the Americans might agree with them :)

Old issue na ina ah. Many still don't like the idea that people from Negros Occidental now realize that they are not Ilonggos but Negrenses or Negrosanons. Indi na ina ya maliwat ang history that our ancestry in the Occidental province comes mainly from the provinces of Iloilo and Antique. But as time went by, nag evolve and nag gwa na ang hybrid nga population sang Negros that differs it from its original race (from Panay and Cebu).

^^very well written @RN...people who call themselves "ilonggos" when in fact and in reality, they were born and lived all their years in negros occ. deserve a jab to the face.:bash::bash::bash:

maayong aga bacolod and negros occ.

Kasakit man sina man. Basi sa isa ka adlaw, damo ka guid ma jab sina. Sang una, isa na ko da. I'm thinking of a campaign like "Proudly Negrénse" where one describes what a Negrénse is pero kung may time lang ko a kay medyo sako na ko bi.

^^sige a...spank na lang sa behind. i really don't understand why its so simple a thing and yet, others can't follow it. iloilo-ilonggo; negros - negrosanon/negrense. as simple as that.:)

Nami gid nga timely kag updated ang aton CLUP since this will not only help in regulating development, it will also help protect lives and conserve the environment. I have seen the CLUP of Hong Kong kag kanami gid sang pagplastar nila, amo na kun ngaa bisan kagamay sang HK kag ara ka sa Central may makita ka gihapon nga greenery kag wildlife sa palibot mo. They make it a point that developments are concentrated on some areas, indi lang haphazard nga construction. Bacolod emulating that will really be great, both for our urban development and our drive for more tourism.

Actually, the mother of all Philippine Festivals is Ati-atihan since it's the oldest continuing Philippine festival, actually 800 years na siya subong, and also the first one to have street dancing. Ati-atihan even inspired another festival sa land not so far away. ;)

Huo mig. Dugay na tani gna-obra sang local tourism office naton. That is to market Negros Occ thru our very attractive natural wonders. I remember pa gani the statement of former Tourism Sec. ^^the problem with lakawon is the water supply system and electricity. it has great potential to be a major tourist destination but sad to say, its good only for a day tour. not quite sure as to ownership, whether its private or public, what i know is the puey's own half of it and the other by fishermen-settlers who might have inhabited the island long before it was opened to the public. but much needs to be done for it to become a major tourist drawer.:)

Hapos ma lang istoryahun ang mga Puey about that matter. If I am not mistaken, this is the same Puey nga former governor sang defunct Negros del Norte Province. :) Ang beauty ka Lakawon is that it is still pristine and can be a camping island for nature lovers, much like that island in Zambales which name I forgot.

Considering that the area they are devloping are their existing driveways and parking areas, I guess they'll develope first the vacant area in front of manokan for their new parking area and they'll also have to construct new driveways before they construct the annex building.

And ma kita mo gid ang Sinulog sang Kabankalan featuring the dark-skinned Negritos of Carol-an Valley and Plateaus of upper Kabankalan which contrasts with Cebu's Sinulog which its much Christianized, lowland and developed community theme (also with Sinulog de Jimalalud of Jimalalud, Negros Oriental).

Esp. mig pag reconized na as HUC ang Kabankalan and pag matapos na ang airport didto, mas matagaan na gid ni right exposures and promotions ang Sinulog of Kabankalan.
True!slowly but surely Kabankalan is getting there. Its just so perfect for Kabankalan to be the Bacolod of the South strategically.

thanks migs :) heheheh daw ma ano gid siya sa gerry's grill nga nag close...ang ila gani aristocrat, giordano, hang ten, esprit and many more nag close man :) hahahahaha
lol poor service + so-so food caused the untimely demise of gerry's grill here. wala gani nag close ang Trattoria nga euros ang prices dira haha. anyway we all know that the Negrense palate is far superior than our brethrens across the strait...proof of that is their 2nd rate copy-cat grilled chicken that they made commercially popular, partly coz of the nfa unli-rice tsk. moving forward padayon sa manami na news about progress hehe...

Agree, agree, agree. remember ang pag close sang Gerry's here was abrupt. So that means indi tungod diutay ga kaon. I bulat-lat ya di ang graph and charts sang sales sang gina claim "ginalangawan" kag "poor sales". At least kun tuod man gid kundi masanagan ta nga ka "poor" man gid gali sang performance.:lol::lol:
