Linguine January 5th, 2010, 09:45 AM ^^good news and more good news. notice mo migs that our local governments (bacolod and negros occidental) is investing heavily on our greatest resource...the people. improving people's lives will redound to a better community and a healthier economy.
add ko mig, and the eventual stop to the insurgency.........:cheers::cheers:
bacolodchamp January 5th, 2010, 10:08 AM ^^i guess migs people are just tired of waging a useless ideology plus the fact that people are more convinced that we can only achieve progress and development faster if the peace and order situation is stable. recent reports reveal that the insurgency problem in negros island is now reduced to a mere banditry.

Medical Notes
Coffee: Regular vs. Decaf
By EDUARDO GONZALES, MD
January 4, 2010, 4:54pm
http://i893.photobucket.com/albums/ac138/nationalguard_ssc/Medical-Notes_17.jpg
Q. Is decaffeinated healthier than regular coffee? -Iris L., Cebu City
A. Decaffeinated coffee refers to coffee that has at least 97% of its caffeine removed. There are several ways by which coffee is decaffeinated. Some of these methods utilize solvents such a formaldehyde, methylene chloride or ethyl acetate in extracting the caffeine from coffee beans.
The rationale behind decaffeinating coffee is to eliminate caffeine, the substance that is generally blamed for the unwelcome effects of coffee, which include increase heart rate and blood pressure—effects that are transient and do not cause permanent damage to the cardiovascular system, heartburn and hyperacidity, increase in stress level, staining of the teeth, increase in blood cholesterol levels, and increase in the risk for osteoporosis or brittle bone disease.
Unfortunately, studies indicate that the adverse effects of coffee enumerated above also occur in people who drink decaffeinated coffee. Perhaps this is because decaffeinated coffee still has some caffeine or because the adverse effects are not simply due to caffeine but to the other substances found in coffee and which are not removed by decaffeination. Incidentally, coffee contains about 400 chemicals that are responsible for its taste and aroma.
Furthermore, decaffeinated coffee has several drawbacks. Which ever process is used in decaffeination, some of the coffee’s flavor is lost. Coffee that has been decaffeinated by chemical method has superior taste over other decaffeinated coffee; but it leaves some chemical residue that can have negative health effects especially to those with allergies to the solvents used.
Likewise, decaffeinated coffee may dilute the possible health benefits of coffee. Coffee aside from being a tried and tested stimulant has some possible long-term health benefits. For one, it is a good source of antioxidants. In fact, a study conducted in Pennsylvania in 2006, which analyzed the antioxidant contents of more than 100 different food items, including vegetables, fruits, nuts, spices, oils and common beverages, showed that coffee is the number one source of dietary antioxidants of Americans.
Antioxidants, which also include some vitamins such as vitamin E (tocopherol), vitamin C (ascorbic acid), vitamin A (retinol and carotenoids), a variety of minerals like zinc, iron, copper, manganese and selenium, and thousands of phytochemicals (plant chemicals), are substances that protect the cells of the body from getting damaged by free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive atoms or groups of atoms that are by-products of the normal metabolic activities of cells. If present in excess amounts, they injure cells and contribute to such disorders as cancer, heart disease and many conditions associated with aging.
Another possible health benefit of coffee which has been borne out by several scientific studies already is that it substantially lowers the risk of developing clinical type 2 diabetes mellitus. What’s more, the results of the study further suggest that the more coffee one drinks the better, thus, those who drink seven or more cups of coffee a day are 50 percent less likely to develop diabetes.
The results of still another recent study indicate that coffee reduces the chances of developing cirrhosis of the liver. The consumption of 1 cup of coffee a day reportedly reduces the chances of cirrhosis by 20%, and 4 cups a day reduces the chances by 80%. Caffeine has also been shown to have a pain-killing effect and some research has linked it to prevention of Parkinson’s disease.
All the scientific studies attributing beneficial effects to coffee, however, are inconclusive. In the case of antioxidants, high levels in foods and beverages do not necessarily translate into high blood levels. As regards, the effect on diabetes mellitus (where the evidence is compelling) and cirrhosis, scientists do not even know yet which component of coffee is responsible for the observed positive effects of the beverage.
All told, is decaffeinated coffee more healthful than regular coffee? Evidence points to a NO answer.

lgseccionph January 8th, 2010, 07:39 AM Ground-breaking held for children’s playround in Bago
A ceremonial ground breaking for the Bago City Children’s Playground, a joint project of the city government of Bago and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in cooperation with the International Friendship Club of Negros Island and Smart Communications, Phils., was held yesterday in Bago City.
Consul Raymond Stoffel, International lawyer and Grand Duchy of Luxembourg honorary consul, said the project hopes to provide children of Bago with happy memories of their childhood and mold them to become productive citizens of the country.
Stoffel, who is married to a Bagoeña, said part of the funds to be used in the construction of the playground, located in front of the plaza, came from the raffle sponsored by Smart Communications, Phils. during the Jan. 1 Lights of Bago Fireworks Display.
Since the fireworks easily disappear in the sky, Stoffel said they came up with the children’s playground project for something that will remain in the hearts of Bagoeños.
Bago City Mayor Ramon Torres who expressed his thanks to Stoffel and IFCONI president John Bertrand, said the project will definitely have a social impact on the lives of the people.
He said the children’s playground project runs parallel with the city’s thrust of strengthening its image as a child-friendly community.
He also said children’s rights to a happy environment are stated in the law and the city government is making sure that it is strongly observed in Bago.*NAB

how about Bayo @doc is it owned by a Negrense or an Ilonggo?
national guard January 10th, 2010, 03:53 PM ^^ by a BACOLODNON migo c6josh.:)
this is from our SHOP & DINE thread:
BAYO STORY (http://www.bayo.com.ph/bayostory.html#)
Bayo started out as a made-to-measure dress shop in Makati. The need to expand grew bigger when Bayo launched its ready-to-wear line. In 1992, the growing demand triggered the establishment of Lyncor, Inc., then a manufacturing firm, to support Bayo.
“Bayo,” an ilonggo term which means, “dress” in English was chosen by the owners of the company since they are from Bacolod.
Bayo reflects a clean, classic image. Bayo caters to women who embody the laid-back, casual lifestyle who have preference for stylish yet classic apparel.
Bayo is a testament of what the Filipino can do in today's competitive environment. Bayo is proud of what it has achieved as a Filipino retailer and it expresses its full pride in being Filipino. This is what set the brand apart, its devotion to staying true to its roots as a Filipino brand. It has no pretensions on what the brand image is all about and rather keeps in tune with the brand's origin, which is still Filipino. Bayo revolves around who the Filipina truly is in all her different facets and how she evolves with time but still maintaining her distinct cultural attributes

thesugarfairy January 11th, 2010, 06:07 AM Ayala Land Sells Over 100 Lots in 2009
By Edith B. Colmo
SOURCE: Begros Daily Bulletin (http://www.ndb-online.com/jan1110el1)

Despite some negative forecasts, Ayala Land Inc. (AYI), has exceeded its goals. For 2009, over 100 lots were sold from its elite subdivisions, the Verdana Homes Projects - Plantazionne, Asyana, and Ayala North Point at Talisay City.
During the ALI - media fellowship over the weekend, Ms Ma. Therese Borromeo, branch manager for Negros said "we have delivered our committed developments and continue to improve our three projects. Phase 4 of Verdana Homes Plantazionne is 98% competed, and just waiting for the installation of power. Only 20 lots are left for disposal. For Verdana Homes Asyana, infrastructures are continuously undertaken. Construction of Clubhouse will start next month, and we are definite to finish it before the year ends.
At the Ayala North Point, we have added greens in the parks at Phase 3, to amaze the golfers, residents and visitors.
Ms Borromeo also said, a 20-meter access road from the Caltex Station was opened, paving the way to St John’s Institute and connects the spine road to the villages.
Importantly, adopting the global standard of waste disposition, AYI has invested the first of its kind facility in Negros to show its commitment for environment sustainability by constructing the WETLANDS Project - a natural treatment procedure to reduce pollution levels of waste water from the residences within the subdivisions. Its energy source is sun for lesser energy requirement, to lessen greenhouse gases.
Borromeo added that there will be major facility AYI will add this year. The construction of a Business Product Outsourcing (BPO) facility within this year along the highway.
The continued trust and confidence of Negrenses has enabled AYI to continue to succeed in its endeavor, Borromeo further said.
AYI project has become a landmark in Negros Occidental. It greets travelers going north from Bacolod.
In fellowship with Bacolod media, AYI staff was led by Branch Manager Borromeo herself, with Sales Officer Rouel Abuana, Marketing Asst. Emilou Ongsuco, Corporate Communication Asst Kayee Villas, VISMIN, and Atty. Jeanette Japson- corporate communication officer also for VISMIN.*[/QUOTE]

Importantly, adopting the global standard of waste disposition, she said, ALI has constructed the first of its kind facility in Negros to show its commitment for environment sustainability by putting up the Wetlands Project.
Borromeo said the project, which gets its energy source from sun, is a natural treatment procedure to reduce pollution levels of waste water from the residences within the subdivisions.
She added that a Business Product Outsourcing facility will be constructed along the highway within this year.
Borromeo said the continued trust and confidence of Negrenses has enabled ALI to continue to succeed in its endeavor while its project has become a landmark in Negros Occidental.
The fellowship with the Bacolod media Saturday was attended by Borromeo, Sales Officer Rouel Abuana, Marketing Assistant Emilou Ongsuco, Corporate Communication Assistant for VISMIN Kayee Villas, and Jeanette Japson – corporate communication officer also for VISMIN.* CGS
