^^it must be because of the soil composition (is that the right term?) that makes a building become stable and sturdy, even during earthquakes. amo na guro nga, despite our proximity to the epicenter, no major, major damage was done.:)
Not only the soil composition but the type of foundation used to compliment the soil composition. :lol: Ambot na lang sa iban kung gin-ano nila ang pag construct sang ila Hall of Justice, wala guid tuod justice. :nuts: Ang importante, aware na kita. :D

one good example mig ang PNB building that is more than 4 decades already and the tallest in the region for the longest time and the PNB was formerly gov't owned which may also mean that it was built by the gov't.....wala siguro sang may ginpa "pag on na bulsa".;)

Meaning sa pondasyon pa lang mig pirdi na ang developers pag pigaw ang soil composition sang isa ka lugar. Ti kundi resort to other strategies on how to sell the property that can spell a win-win situation to both investors and developers. :)

As a kid growing up in bacolod city, my most favorite memory was waiting for my uncle Henry Villalva to finish working as a dj at magic 103 (if i remembered the station correctly). And then bringing me home a hotdog from bob's restaurant, so seeing all these old food places brings back good memories. And seeing the new placed makes me want to go back home to bacolod even more now than ever, to show my kids where i grew up and all the places i used to visit.

Seaoil gears up to buy land for depots

“It’s for our depot expansion plans... We are looking to expand in Northern Luzon, Central Visayas and Mindanao,” he said, adding that the company had allocated P500 million for the construction of depots.

Negros gets reimbursement

BACOLOD CITY -- The Negros Occidental provincial government received reimbursement of P1.8 million for the under-delivery of sheep, some dead upon arrival, which it had purchased from an Australian firm.
The province purchased 5,840 heads of sheep worth P82 million from the International Livestock Export Property Limited based in Perth, Western Australia.

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said only 5,760 heads of sheep arrived on Feb. 8 because 21 animals died at sea during their 11-day trip.

Also, about 30 more sheep died in transit from the port in Bacolod to the Negros First Ranch in Brgy. Sta. Rosa, Murcia where they will be quarantined before dispersal. There were also 59 under-delivered animals.

All in all, the provincial government received a refund of P1.846 million for the 51 dead sheep and 59 under-delivered ones. The sheep were covered by transport insurance.

The Livestock Marketing and Dispersal Committee has been tasked to disperse the animals to private buyers and to local government units after the Provincial Board approved an ordinance for the dispersal. -- Nanette L. Guadalquiver

Bacolod BIR exceeds collection by 17.93%

The Bureau of Internal Revenue, Revenue Region 12, Bacolod City exceeded its tax collection goal by P4,300,509.90 last month, up by 17.93 percent from the P420,352,309.29 collection of the same month last year.

Revenue Director Perfecto Aranas said they collected P495,725,509.90 last month, which is 0.88 percent higher than their goal.

He said they need to double their efforts in collecting taxes as the national goal collection for 2012 has been increased to P1.066 trillion, and the goal for RR12 has also been raised to P6,147,388,000 billion.

Meanwhile, the revenue collection for the other four revenue district offices under RR12 for January were RD76-Victorias (P55,140,136.70), RD77-Bacolod City (P283,502,151.13), RD78-Binalbagan (P44,408,128.23), and RD79-Dumaguete City (P112,675,093.84)

Bacoleña shuttler 87th NCAA MVP

From winning gold medals for her alma mater, Trinity Christian, and home province Negros Occidental in the Palarong Pambansa, Nikki Therese Servando continues to make waves in the badminton collegiate scene. Recently she bagged the Most Valuable Player award in the 87th National Collegiate Athletic Association badminton tournament.

A freshman culinary student of De La Salle College of St. Benilde, Servando beat Johanna Rose Aganinta of Emilio Aguinaldo College in the NCAA ladies singles final, 21-2, 21-6 to claim the championship.

DIRECTOR Peque Gallaga with filmmakers from Bacolod

For its fourth year, Cinema Rehiyon, the non-competition film festival organized by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) during the Philippine Arts Festival (also known as the National Arts Month every February), included video installations along with the regular fare of full-length films and short films by regional filmmakers.

Since Bacolod City was the host, the festival was called “Bacollywood.” A total of 68 films were shown.

Among video installations shown were those by Martha Atienza, Kiri Dalena and Kaloy Olavides.

An art exhibit of seven video installations titled “Killing Time” was showcased at the Negros Museum.

This year, the venue for viewing some of the featured films were not only confined to the movie house (Robinsons Bacolod) but also included public areas such as art galleries and barangays.

Actors John Arceo, Rez Cortez, Cherrie Gil, Mark Gil, Ronnie Lazaro, Joel Torre and Epi Quizon also graced the festival and took part in a forum about actors in cinema.

DICT bill passes second reading at Senate
Sen. Edgardo Angara, in a speech before the Infocomm Technology Association of the Philippines (ITAP), said the DICT is now merely a formality since the only thing left to do in third reading is the voting among the senators.National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) chair Jocelle Batapa-Sigue said that amendments introduced by other senators will be incorporated in the “revised” bill.

Expansion of airport runway sought
BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. is seeking the expansion of the Bacolod-Silay airport runway even as he called on the new airport manager to improve the facility amid complaints aired through the social network.

Marañon said the expansion needs the endorsement of the Regional Development Council (RDC) Region 6 before the same can be forwarded to Transportation and Communication Secretary Mar Roxas.

He explained the runway needs an additional 500 meters so it can serve bigger planes and enhance its capacity to lure in international flights to further boost the tourism industry in the province.

Of the 142 hectares land area proposed to be converted into an economic zone, said Regalado, half of it will be devoted to the proposed solar plant by a Korean firm while the remaining half will be for an IT Park to be called Tanza Techno Park.

He said, “This is the second ecozone to rise in Neg.Occ. next to Sagay City, but the proposed IT park will be the first in the province.”

“I think this is now a go go project considering that the land owners – Rebecca and Herminio Maravilla are also interested to offer their estate to this business venture,” he said.

“The only thing that the Municipal Government of EB Magalona will do is to let its Sangguniang Bayan to pass a resolution converting the Maravilla estate from agricultural to industrial zone,” Regalado added.

“No problem, we’re willing,” answered Mayor David Albert Lacson.

As soon as a resolution for land conversion will be passed, Regalado said they will process everything — from DENR permit, among other government registrations.

Regalado, however, is assured that said resolution is now forthcoming after hearing the commitment of Mayor Lacson and the members of the town’s council last week.

15,000 JOBS

If they’re will be no more hitches, Regalado said they will initially start the development within the 25 hectares land area with an initial input of P250 million.

“Then everything will be done in a gradual basis,” he further said, adding, “With this business venture, around 15,000 jobs will be generated in a span of 5 years of operations.”

He added that one of the main reasons why they want to locate in EB Magalona because of the proximity of the place to the Silay-Bacolod Airport, and “the roads leading to the proposed IT park are already paved.”

Regalado also said that graduates of Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) in Talisay have also a very good chance landing jobs in this IT park considering of their skills after graduation.

“That’s why we’re targeting about 6,000 graduates of TUP in the next five years,” he also disclosed.

SM City Bacolod Php2.5 Billion expansion

Jardiolin reported that SM is investing P2.5 billion for the expansion of the department store, making it a three-story building and also the expansion of the mall.

“They have chosen to put up a very big investment in Bacolod and that is a stamp of approval, telling the business sector of the Philippines that Bacolod indeed is where your money will grow and there must be gold mines here - the reason why they keep on investing here," said Leonardia.

The expansion is expected to accommodate 150 more tenants and spur economic growth in the city.

The expansion of the department store will be completed by 2013 and next is the expansion of the mall.

The expansion of the mall is an affirmation of the SM group of company headed by Hanz Sy of its confidence in Bacolod City.

"We will have more partnerships to come and SM is really supporting the city and this exhibit is a testament of partnership between the city and SM," Jardiolin said.

SM set for P2.5B expansion

The manager of SM City-Bacolod announced that ShoeMart is investing P2.5 billion for the construction of a three-storey building and the expansion of their mall in the city, at the opening of the exhibit of the Bacolod City government at the West Bridge of SM City yesterday.

The exhibit titled “Progreso sang Bacolod”, depicting the progress brought to Bacolod City by the administration of Mayor Evelio Leonardia, will run until March 8.

George Jardiolin, SM mall manager, yesterday said the expansion will accommodate an additional 150 tenants or more,and will surely spur the economic growth of the city.

He said the new expansion will start after the completion of its department store in 2013.

Jardiolin said the expansion is an affirmation of their confidence in Bacolod City by the SM group of companies headed by Hanz Sy.

“We will have more partnerships to come since SM is really supportive of the city, and this exhibit is a testament of that partnership,” he said.

The exhibit showcases the achievements and accolades of the city as one of the premier and bustling cities in the country, particularly the construction boom that it has been enjoying.

Leonardia said the growth of the city is also due to the great contribution of the business sector which he truly appreciates.

“We have grown because we have joined hands in attaining what we are now. We are bound to sustain this momentum as the people have realized how far we have gone, and this is also a morale-booster for everyone,” he said.

Leonardia said SM is investing more in Bacolod since it saw the potential of its business to really grow and expand in the city.

STAMP OR APPROVAL

“For me, the presence and expansion of SM, with due respect to others who have also contributed to the growth and development of the city, is a stamp of approval and is like telling the rest of the business world in the Philippines that Bacolod is the place, indeed, where your money will grow,” Leonardia said.

Leonardia said SM must have seen a gold mine here and that is why it keeps on investing in Bacolod. It also has investments abroad and could have placed their money elsewhere, but it has chosen to put a very big investment in Bacolod, he said.

SWEETEST MUSIC

“The sweetest music to my ears is when people like balikbayans d say that Bacolod has really changed,” Leonardia said. The phenomenal progress of Bacolod has been validated by well known organizations in the country and abroad, he said.

P449M cyber center work starts;
Roxas help sought on COA delay

Work has began for the construction of the P449.8 million three-storey Negros Cyber Center at the Paglaum Sports Complex in Bacolod City, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said yesterday

The Cyber Center is being built for lease to information technology firms planning to set up operations in Bacolod City, to create more jobs in Negros Occidental, the governor said.

Meanwhile, Department of Education Regional Director Mildred Garay met with the governor yesterday to inform him of the DepEd’s setting up of a proposed model class at the Negros Occidental High School to train 11th and 12th years students for work in call centers, with the scheduled addition of two years to basic education.

Negros Occidental needs 4,000 additional call center agents so training is important, she said.

Garay said a pilot class to train students to become call center agents is also underway at the Bacolod City National High School.

Meanwhile, the governor said he sees no legal impediment to the sale and lease by the Negros Occidental provincial governmentof its 7.7-hectare property in Bacolod City to Ayala Land, and he hopes the Commission on Audit releases a ruling on the matter soon.

Marañon said he has asked Transportation and Communication Secretary Mar Roxas to help the provincial government follow up the matter with the COA, and the secretary has promised to do so.

The governor also appealed to the media yesterday to help the provincial government find out the real reason for the COA delay.

He said that, under the Constitution, the COA should have acted on the matter in 60 days.

The governor said he also relayed to Roxas his request for the lengthening of the Bacolod Silay Airport runway and the expansion of its terminal.

The new department store is expected to be completed this year, and the additional three-storey that will replace the present one will be completed next year, Jardiolin said. This billion-peso investment affirms SM Prime’s confidence in Bacolod in terms of economic growth and opportunities, he added.

^^we can' rely on other people for official figures, especially if they have their prejudices towards us. i have corrected at least 2 sites where our figures are "manipulated" and i have to call the attention of the owners of the blog to correct them. first was the figures in our airport (pueblopilipino blog i think) where the figures reflected is less than a million when in fact, it already reached 1.3 million. so, i gave him the link and glad that he made the necessary corrections. second was the GFA of our SM City which was reduced to a mere 90K sqm GFA which should hve been 103K GFA after expansion.:)

Guv to launch P1.95-M poultry project in Sagay

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. will launch and turn over the P1.95 million “Backyard Broiler Contract Growing Project in Negros Occidental” tomorrow to 12 families in Sagay City, who are also recipients of the Gawad Kalinga housing projects.

Silva said they have turned over to Sagay the first batch of broiler chicks on Feb. 2, which will be ready for disposal next month.

Silva said the recipients do not have to worry where to sell their produce because the marketing for these will be handled by the Huager Multipurpose Cooperative.

Sagay City and the towns of Manapla, EB Magalona, and Pulupandan are the pilot local government units of the project, Silva said, and this will be expanded to other LGUs once it is successful and sustainable.
