^^ang mayo migs kay this is privately owned and initiated project...bisan wala support from the government, wala ginapangutangan binilyon sa gobyerno, but was able to stand on its own. bredco IMO ws one of the "drivers" why bacolod and negros occ. experienced this unprecedented growth in recent years. kon, this port was already in place in the 1800's at the height of the sugar trade, basi ang iban na port ginalangawan asta subong. pasalamat sila kay palanca was born late.:lol::banana::banana::banana: seriously, the city government should lend palanca a hand in the development of this port because of the benefits that this port provided our city and province.:)

BAMC breaks ground for new facility

A ground breaking ceremony was held at the west wing area of the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center for a 5-storey building, a press release said.

Some 693 square meters of additional floor will be added at the East Wing area and about 1,750 square meters within the existing hospital will be renovated and upgraded.

BAMC is a non-stock, non-profit corporation, is embarking on an expansion program to meet the growing medical needs of its patients, the press release said.

Breeders start buying sheep

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said private sheep breeders and a local breeding center in Negros Occidental had purchased sheep from the province through the Provincial Veterinary Office.

A total of 108 sheep were sold to two private breeders and to the Moises Padilla Breeding Center recently, costing to P1,782,000, Dr. Placeda Lamana, officer-in-charge of PVO said.

The MPCB bought 40 ewes and two rams, while two private breeders bought 62 ewes and four rams, Lemana said.

Each ewe costs P16,000 and for the ram, it is P25,000, she said.

Lemana also said PVO does not sell sheep to any buyer.

All buyers must comply with the requirements that include proper housing for the sheep, good pasture area, completed sheep management training with PVO, and payment in cash to the Provincial Treasurer’s Office, she said.

SM set for P2.5B expansion

The manager of SM City-Bacolod announced that ShoeMart is investing P2.5 billion for the construction of a three-storey building and the expansion of their mall in the city, at the opening of the exhibit of the Bacolod City government at the West Bridge of SM City yesterday.

The exhibit titled “Progreso sang Bacolod”, depicting the progress brought to Bacolod City by the administration of Mayor Evelio Leonardia, will run until March 8.

George Jardiolin, SM mall manager, yesterday said the expansion will accommodate an additional 150 tenants or more,and will surely spur the economic growth of the city.

He said the new expansion will start after the completion of its department store in 2013.

Jardiolin said the expansion is an affirmation of their confidence in Bacolod City by the SM group of companies headed by Hanz Sy.

“We will have more partnerships to come since SM is really supportive of the city, and this exhibit is a testament of that partnership,” he said.

The exhibit showcases the achievements and accolades of the city as one of the premier and bustling cities in the country, particularly the construction boom that it has been enjoying.

Leonardia said the growth of the city is also due to the great contribution of the business sector which he truly appreciates.

“We have grown because we have joined hands in attaining what we are now. We are bound to sustain this momentum as the people have realized how far we have gone, and this is also a morale-booster for everyone,” he said.

Leonardia said SM is investing more in Bacolod since it saw the potential of its business to really grow and expand in the city.

STAMP OR APPROVAL

“For me, the presence and expansion of SM, with due respect to others who have also contributed to the growth and development of the city, is a stamp of approval and is like telling the rest of the business world in the Philippines that Bacolod is the place, indeed, where your money will grow,” Leonardia said.

Leonardia said SM must have seen a gold mine here and that is why it keeps on investing in Bacolod. It also has investments abroad and could have placed their money elsewhere, but it has chosen to put a very big investment in Bacolod, he said.

SWEETEST MUSIC

“The sweetest music to my ears is when people like balikbayans d say that Bacolod has really changed,” Leonardia said. The phenomenal progress of Bacolod has been validated by well known organizations in the country and abroad, he said.

SILAY CITY – Mayor Jose Montelibano bared Sunday the establishment of an export processing zone to be located in a 25-hectare property beside the Bacolod-Silay Airport.

Montelibano said the property where the processing zone will be located is owned by the Magsaysay family. The deal has already been concluded, he said.

Aside from an export processing zone, Robinsons Land Corporation has also purchased land near the airport where it plans to construct a mall.

^^for the information of everybody, ERAMS stands for Esteban R. Abada Memorial School. Esteban Abada is a senator in the 1950's from kabankalan. there are other schools named after him, mostly found in manila.
One of those Esteban Abada's I went to vote in the last elections since my our former house's address falls under precints there. :cheers:

Damo lang nag panic since may dormitory na da sa babaw sang Munsterrific. Most likely basi electrical ang fire since that building is more than 3 decades old. So basi may wirings and connections nga old kag wala na diparahan nga islan :ohno:

Guys, any1 knows wat gonna be the plan for centroplex coz ive read few weeks ago in a post na ginclosed na and dunno wat happen now? Juz query though. I really love the skyline of our city very impressive and amazing;) cant wait to see more midrise bldgs sprouting around.....

Airport porters’ seminar today

A seminar-workshop for porters at the Bacolod-Silay International Airport will be conducted today by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and the Silay City government, a press release from Silay City said.

CAAP, the provincial government of Negros Occidental, and the Silay and Bacolod cities, are also working for the arrival of 150 travel agents on March 6-7 for the Eagle Wings Award.

They are also preparing for the series of flights of Sky Pasada, between Silay and Boracay, through the Skybridge Airline Consultants, the press release added.

A concert for the benefit of earthquake victims in Negros Oriental, featuring multi-awarded recording artist Aisaku, will be held at the L’Fisher Chalet roofdeck, 8 p.m. March 3, a press release from organizers said.

Aisaku is the “Outstanding Young Asian Performing Artist” in the Asian Star Entertainer Award for 2010 and 2011, and was named the “Best Young Male Jazz Artist in the 2009-2011 Global Excellence Awards. He is the ambassador of “Operation Smile: Philippines” and of Filipino-Japanese relations, the press release added.

^^ Same here migs... just as I pointed out sa akon nga response sa kay @SugarDad, most of the relocation are not for free... pabayaran guid na gyapon ka City sa ila ang balay kag duta pero very affordable nalang... if my knowledge serves me right, daw 1500 pesos bala per month ang bayad sina mo then daw 20 or 30 years to pay... ambot lang ah... :)

WV unemployment rate drops
RTWPB wage ruling set March 26

That means the unemployed in the region dropped to 198,000 in 2011 from 211,000 in 2010, Ligutom said at a press conference in Bacolod City.

Allocated for Negros Occidental is P7,491,893 under the Special Program for the Employment of Students who must be 15 to 25-year-old poor but deserving students or out of school youth, and P6,121,000 for livelihood programs, he said.

Those interested in availing of these programs available year round can apply for coverage at the Public Employment Services Offices, he said.

DOLE distributed about P400,000 for a cattle fattening livelihood program in Biak na Bato and P300,000 for a chicken, quail and duck production project for the poor in Cabacungan, La Castellana town, Negros Occidental, recently, he said.

The DOLE has also opened satellite offices in Sagay City and Himamaylan City in Negros Occidental to bring its services closer to the people, he said.

Bacolod to host renewable energy summit

THE first-ever regional summit on renewable energy is set on March 17 in Bacolod, said Paul Dingcong, representative of One Renewable Energy Enterprise (One RE) and one of the event organizers.

Dingcong told Sun.Star that the summit aims to raise public awareness on renewable energy systems like solar, hydro, wind and biomass, and develop the regional market for alternative energy products and services.

The summit program will be highlighted by regional energy situationer and renewable energy trends, an orientation on renewable energy with focus on solar systems and its various applications, key issues and challenges on renewable energy, and presentation of various financing systems for renewable energy projects.

Dingcong, whose company is one of the leading solar installers, and provider-distributor of German-engineered solar panels, inverters, controllers and its system peripherals, said the regional summit is jointly undertaken by One RE and the NEOPHIL, a social enterprise company dedicated to clean, renewable and cheap alternative energy systems and agricultural power machines.

This is also in partnership with the Department of Energy, local government units and private sector in the region.

Dingcong said participants to the summit will include national and local government representatives, Land Bank of the Philippines, micro financing institutions, business groups, architects, land and housing developers and contractors, and civil society groups.

The event will also make public exhibits of solar energy products and other renewable energy systems. (Karl G. Ombion)

DEPARTMENT of Education Regional Director Mildred Garay confirmed that the Negros Occidental High School will be a model of the K-12 call center training this year.

In Bacolod City, the model school is Bacolod City High School.

The specialization on call center training service is given priority because of the fact that, in Bacolod City alone, about 4,000 service center agents are needed.

Garay assured that there are very good English teachers at the Bacolod City National High School and NOHS.

"We reviewed our curriculum and invited the representatives of call centers. The pilot project is very promising. On the 12th year, the students will be 18 and they can already be hired as call center agents," Garay said.

As a recap of the exhibit: the Bacolod City Government Center is displayed in one frame presenting the majestic building as a 40-year dream of Bacolodnons realized by the Leonardia administration. As the seat of government, a major tourist landmark, a center for major activities of the city, and a favorite physical fitness, promenade and picnic area of friends and families.

Kicking-off with Leonardia’s Vision and Mission statements, the viewers are shown graphics of Bacolod City as a member of the Billionaire’s Club, Top 2 Among the 10 Growth Centers of the Philippines, and Top 3 Next Wave Cities for Business Process Outsourcing/Call Centers. It also shows the construction boom that the city has been enjoying, its resettlement areas, particularly its recent acquisition—the Granada-Vista Alegre Resettlement II, and its Slaughterhouse.

A frame presents the partnership that the City Government entered into with a government agency and a private medical institution that enhanced the health services of the city - the Bacolod Eye Center and the Bacolod Birthing and Lying-In Clinic, its partnerships with the DOH/CLMMRH (Department of Health/Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital). In the exhibit, one can also find that Bacolod as a Most Child-Friendly city and learn that it has very effective services for employment, overseas Filipino workers and cooperatives.

Bacolod City College, which was founded by Leonardia, is depicted as a tertiary institution offering quality but affordable education. It is cited that the college’s education department is performing very well in the licensure examinations for teachers by achieving passing rates higher than the national averages since 2006.

The tourism of the city is also depicted as a sector in the boom, featuring the two major festivals of the city - the MassKara Festival and the Bacolaodiat Festival.

SM set for P2.5B expansion

The manager of SM City-Bacolod announced that ShoeMart is investing P2.5 billion for the construction of a three-storey building and the expansion of their mall in the city, at the opening of the exhibit of the Bacolod City government at the West Bridge of SM City yesterday.

The exhibit titled “Progreso sang Bacolod”, depicting the progress brought to Bacolod City by the administration of Mayor Evelio Leonardia, will run until March 8.

George Jardiolin, SM mall manager, yesterday said the expansion will accommodate an additional 150 tenants or more,and will surely spur the economic growth of the city.

He said the new expansion will start after the completion of its department store in 2013.

Jardiolin said the expansion is an affirmation of their confidence in Bacolod City by the SM group of companies headed by Hanz Sy.

“We will have more partnerships to come since SM is really supportive of the city, and this exhibit is a testament of that partnership,” he said.

The exhibit showcases the achievements and accolades of the city as one of the premier and bustling cities in the country, particularly the construction boom that it has been enjoying.

Leonardia said the growth of the city is also due to the great contribution of the business sector which he truly appreciates.

“We have grown because we have joined hands in attaining what we are now. We are bound to sustain this momentum as the people have realized how far we have gone, and this is also a morale-booster for everyone,” he said.

Leonardia said SM is investing more in Bacolod since it saw the potential of its business to really grow and expand in the city.

STAMP OR APPROVAL

“For me, the presence and expansion of SM, with due respect to others who have also contributed to the growth and development of the city, is a stamp of approval and is like telling the rest of the business world in the Philippines that Bacolod is the place, indeed, where your money will grow,” Leonardia said.

Leonardia said SM must have seen a gold mine here and that is why it keeps on investing in Bacolod. It also has investments abroad and could have placed their money elsewhere, but it has chosen to put a very big investment in Bacolod, he said.

SWEETEST MUSIC

“The sweetest music to my ears is when people like balikbayans d say that Bacolod has really changed,” Leonardia said. The phenomenal progress of Bacolod has been validated by well known organizations in the country and abroad, he said.

Japanese tourists experience "Lagaw Silay" program

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Feb. 29 (PIA6) -- A group of Japanese toured Silay City as part of the “Lagaw Silay” program.

“Lagaw Silay” (lagaw means to stroll) is a program of the City Government of Silay endorsed by the Department of Tourism to promote cultural heritage, ecotourism and food trips in the city, according to Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibano.

The group is made up of members of the Chickyu-no Arukikata International Volunteer Tour.

Their travel in Silay City is facilitated by K.I.S. International Co. Ltd – Tokyo in cooperation with IKAW-AKO Japan – Negros Partnership for Environmental Protection and Silay City Tourism Office.

‘Sayonara Silay,’ a friendship dinner was also held for the Japanese tourists for the environment at Sen. Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center on February 29.

The friendship dinner featured cultural night presentation with Kabataang Silay Performing Artists and Rondalla Ensemble, and Friends of Tourism-Silay.

Ver Pacete, tourism officer of Silay, said that the program includes presentation of Silay main dishes and delicacies, and ‘Learn to Dance’ time wherein Japanese visitors will be taught to dance ‘Tinikling’ and ‘Sayaw sa Bangko’.

Leo Canson, IKAW-AKO Silay chairman, said that the group had forest tree seedling planting in Silay-JICA Watershed Area in Patag, and mangrove seedling planting in Barangay Balaring.

Special features are cultural interaction with the students of Don Albino and Dona Dolores Jison Integrated School, nature tour at Patag Japanese Garden, and a visit at St. Theresita’s Academy Talleres de Nazareth.

Mari Kurata, IKAW-AKO tour coordinator, said that she has lined up tour operators from Japan to come to Silay bringing Japanese guests as part of ‘Lagaw Silay’ program in the future.*(JCM/EAD-PIA6/Silay Negros Occidental)

“Lagaw Silay” (lagaw means to stroll) is a program of the City Government of Silay endorsed by the Department of Tourism to promote cultural heritage, ecotourism and food trips in the city, according to Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibano.

The group is made up of members of the Chickyu-no Arukikata International Volunteer Tour.

Their travel in Silay City is facilitated by K.I.S. International Co. Ltd – Tokyo in cooperation with IKAW-AKO Japan – Negros Partnership for Environmental Protection and Silay City Tourism Office.

‘Sayonara Silay,’ a friendship dinner was also held for the Japanese tourists for the environment at Sen. Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center on February 29.

The friendship dinner featured cultural night presentation with Kabataang Silay Performing Artists and Rondalla Ensemble, and Friends of Tourism-Silay.

Ver Pacete, tourism officer of Silay, said that the program includes presentation of Silay main dishes and delicacies, and ‘Learn to Dance’ time wherein Japanese visitors will be taught to dance ‘Tinikling’ and ‘Sayaw sa Bangko’.

Leo Canson, IKAW-AKO Silay chairman, said that the group had forest tree seedling planting in Silay-JICA Watershed Area in Patag, and mangrove seedling planting in Barangay Balaring.

Special features are cultural interaction with the students of Don Albino and Dona Dolores Jison Integrated School, nature tour at Patag Japanese Garden, and a visit at St. Theresita’s Academy Talleres de Nazareth.

Organic park, restaurant launched


The RU Foundry recently opened its ecological organic park and restaurant in Brgy. Pahanocoy, Bacolod City, offering organic farming to the public.

Ramon Uy, Sr., owner and president of RU Foundry, said he decided to put an eco-organic park for local farmers.

“This park is designed for farmers to learn new techniques of farming and at the same time showing the public what it is like to have organic products,” Uy said.

The park showcases the organic garden with different kinds of plants and herbs, technologies like ram pumps, native livestock and poultry animals, and horseback riding, he said.

Hinigaran site of UN project

Hinigaran town, Negros Occidental, will be the pilot site of the United Nations Democracy Fund project called “Institutionalizing Marginalized Communities’ Participation in the Philippine Budget Process”, a press release from the Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement-Negros said yesterday.

The project aims to achieve increased participation of marginalized sectors in the local and national processes in eight target areas nationwide through capacity-building, policy advocacy, and social mobilization, Hazel Aghon, PRRM secretariat, said, she added that Hinigaran, a coastal town situated 54 kms from Bacolod, is the only area selected in the province.

The two-year model-building project, that started last month, seeks to train marginalized groups, especially small fishers and women, to address the lack of capacity to engage in the local budget process; enhance the awareness and knowledge on implementing democratic budgeting among local officials and lobbying for legislations to ensure transparency and accountability; and forge government-citizens/sectors partnership in public finance, the press release added.*

Army eyes transfer of 3rd ID headquarters in Negros

Thursday, March 1, 2012

IF THE Provincial Government’s donation of at least 50 hectares to the Philippine Army pushes through, the military eyes to transfer the headquarters of the 3rd Infantry Division (ID) to Negros.

He confirmed that Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. imparted to him during his courtesy call that the Provincial Government will donate 50 hectares of land in Bago for the use of the Philippine Army.

He said the lot may also be used as a headquarters for a brigade or a battalion of the Philippine Army if the 3rd ID will not utilize it.

elo pips, can anyone take photos of buildings around the libertad area, the one that surrounds the old killer bee station? I think it has one of the biggest concentrations of 4-5 storey buildings in such a small area. and also I haven't seen a photo of the building sa likod pldt bala ang iya ka medical company, that one is really beautiful and tall (4 or 5 stories)

Ignacio Arroyo is home 34 days after his death in UK

Finally, after several postponements, the body of the late Negros Occidental Representative Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo, who died last January 26, was flown to Manila from London Wednesday night.

In an interview, Ibuna said she only wanted a dignified burial for her partner. She vowed to fulfill what she claimed was Iggy’s last wish: to come home to Negros Occidental.

“We will be going home to Negros. That was his last wish,” Ibuna told reporters.

From the Arroyo conjugal home, the body will be moved to the House of Representatives on March 5 for a necrological service.

At 4 p.m. of the same day, Iggy’s body will be flown to Bacolod City to allow the late lawmaker’s constituents to pay their last respects until March 7.

“He loved his constituents dearly,” she added. “Even up to the last moment, he tried to be strong. He told everyone that he was coming home, this is such a surprise that he would be coming home this way.”
