Property sought for projects


BACOLOD CITY -- The provincial government of Negros Occidental is scouting for a property to locate priority projects, an official said.

“The property should be accessible to the national highway, hospital, and public school, and should have water and power supply,” said Lucille Chavez-Pines, Provincial General Services officer.

Property owners may submit offers to sell to the Office of the Provincial General Services Officer in the Provincial Administration Center by April 11, she said.

Last year, the provincial government acquired a 150-hectare property in Barangay Sta. Rosa, Murcia, where it constructed the P20-million Negros First Ranch, which aims to upgrade the livestock industry.

A major property and infrastructure development also being pursued by the province is the ongoing construction of the three-storey Negros First Cybercenter amounting to almost P450 million on its property at the Paglaum Sports Complex in Bacolod City. -- NLG

Negros Occidental is getting to be among the popular tourist destinations in the country, with more than 10,000 people from all walks of life visiting the Mambucal Mountain Resort in Murcia within four days, from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday.

“ This only prove that they really love our place,” Maranon said at the opening of the 19th Panaad sa Negros Festival, that was attended by about 10,000 people, as estimated by organizers.

Maranon said the provincial government earned about P1 million in just four days. “ This is unprecedented,” he told the crowd, among whom were mayors, vice mayors of different towns and cities, board members, councilors and Reps. Jeffrey Ferrer and Mercedes Alvarez.

The city of Sipalay, which is also known as the jewel of southern Negros, because of its diving sites, clean and powdery sand beaches, and hidden lagoons, also attracts about 50,000 European tourist annually.

The annual Panaad sa Negros festivities showcase the festivals of the province, its famous food, products and delicacies.

“ Let us continue our unity and help one another”, Maranon said, as he expressed his elation over the success of Panaad sa Negros over the years.

The development of Negros Occidental is as bright as the rays of sunlight at noontime, he added.

The 24 candidates for this year Lin-ay sang Negros were also presented during the Panaad sa Negros opening, that was followed by the fiesta presentation of local government units.

The theme of this year’s festival is “19 Years of Panaad sa Negros: More Food, Fun and Festival.”

Bacolod hosts Google Map Maker Conference
PHILIPPINES will hold three local conferences about Google Map Maker this month after the successful Google Map Maker Workshop, which was held in Makati City last March.

The local Google Map Maker Summits, which are free of charge, will be held at the cities of Bacolod, Baguio and General Santos.

The active community of mappers and moderators in the Philippines is the major reason that Google pushes through with its local summits, aiming at developing further the interactive map using the Google Map Maker.

The summit also highlights the importance of Google Map Maker and Maps for businesses, information, LGU planning, disaster assessment and reduction, or tourism.

Speakers from Google India will grace the conference.

For Bacolod, the Google Map Maker Summit will be held at Santuario La Salle of University of Saint La Salle on April 12.

Istorya pa lang about sa lamb, ginagutom na ko. :lol: Namian ko ya roast lamb marinated in red wine kag kung ano pa na spices, with matching oven baked tomatoes and white wine pampa-flush down. Sa makaon lamb bwas, pamicture lang kamo da. :lol:

MURCIA Mayor Andrew Montelibano confirmed that the Municipal Government has approved the construction of a 40-megawatt hydro power plant in the said locality.


The mayor also said that Murcia officials are waiting for the necessary papers from the investor to eventually start the project, which is estimated to cost about P6 billion.

Former jail site now up for lease

The one-hectare site of the old Provincial Jai in Bacolod City is now up for lease.

Provincial Administrator Enrique Pinongan yesterday said that they are leasing the old site of the Provincial Jail at P75 per square meter per month.

If the whole area is leased, Pinongan said the provincial government is expected to earn P750,000 a month.

I agree, but i dont like seeing kabankalan being too urban, I would like to see it living its life as it is, improved yet sustained. hindi parehos sang iban nga pila na ka hundred years na established daw subong lang nag eherm.

Agree man ako da migs. Ang lifestyle sa Kabankalan kasimple gid amo pa daw hindi mabatyagan kung ano kadaku kag kamanggaranon nga siyudad. Love my birthplace.:-).

Lamb cuisine fest scheduled today


Lamb dishes will be served today at the Lamb Meat Fest of Negros Occidental as one of the highlights of the 19th Panaad Festival to let Negrenses and visitors taste and savor the livestock products of the province, Dina Genzola, senior agriculturist, said yesterday.

The eat-all-you-can buffet will have various menus highlighting the lamb dishes like lamb steak, lamb chop, lamb backribs, lamb barbeque, lamb stew, lamb soup #6, and roast lamb, Genzola said.

Other dishes include talaba, appetizers made from steamed okra, eggplant, and kangkong with ginamos, dessert, garden salad, steamed oyster, sinuglaw, and native chicken with ubad, she said.

By the way Jollibee La Salle is "big" it has a bigger seating capacity than Jollibee Mandalagan. Even though the building is downsized, most of the area is utilized as dining space....so Jollibee La Salle is now the biggest in seating capacity, AFAIK

Tupas said LGUs will compete for Panaad Best Product and entries may come from home and furnishings, home accessories, and personal accessories and for specialty food products, they will compete for Best Market Potential, Best Innovative Product, and Best New Product.

TLDC will also give special awards, the Design Excellence Award that will be given to local designer or artist of the top best product for the personal, home accessories, and home furnishing categories and the Sabor Negrense Award for the food producers for the special food products category, he said.

The Top Grosser Award will be given to the LGU that has generated a total sales of P500,000 and more during the trade fair and exhibit.

The consolidated sales will include sales from gifts, toys, housewares, specialty food, furniture, and agri-based products like organic vegetables and value added crops, he also said.

The highest grosser will receive P50,000 cash while three consolation prizes will be given to the next top three highest gross sales with P20,000 each , Tupas said.

Last year, Cadiz City was declared the top grosser with a total sales of P738,898, followed by Moises Padilla with P334,145 total sales, Calatrava with P226,720, and San Carlos with P192,316 total sales.*LTG

"We will be the lamb capital of the country in two years time," Marañon stressed while leading Negrenses and guests in savoring the lamb meat menus cooked in 10 different ways, from lechon lamb to calderetta, adobo, barbecue, lamb chops and back ribs, among others.

Marañon said that part of the plan is to put up processing plants for lamb meat.

Meanwhile, lamb meat will be served and showcased during the Negros Fair in Manila this year, said Millie Kilayko of the Association of Negros Producers.

Lamb cuisine fest scheduled today


Lamb dishes will be served today at the Lamb Meat Fest of Negros Occidental as one of the highlights of the 19th Panaad Festival to let Negrenses and visitors taste and savor the livestock products of the province, Dina Genzola, senior agriculturist, said yesterday.

The eat-all-you-can buffet will have various menus highlighting the lamb dishes like lamb steak, lamb chop, lamb backribs, lamb barbeque, lamb stew, lamb soup #6, and roast lamb, Genzola said.

Other dishes include talaba, appetizers made from steamed okra, eggplant, and kangkong with ginamos, dessert, garden salad, steamed oyster, sinuglaw, and native chicken with ubad, she said.

‘Negros to be lamb capital in 2 years’

Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr. yesterday there is a plan to put up a processing plant for sheep, pigs, chicken and cows, at a property owned by the provincial government in Bacolod City.

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said the breeding of sheep will boost livelihood opportunities and the culinary tourism drive of Negros Occidental.

Marañon said there are suggestions to hold a Negros Food Festival in Manila, aimed at showcasing the famous food and delicacies in Negros Occidental, including the lamb meat.

SM eyes 2,000 local jobs for mall expansion


SM City Bacolod eyes to generate additional 2,000 local jobs for Bacoleños and Negrenses as SM Prime Holdings, Inc. is spending P1.4 billion for the two-phase expansion of them all at Rizal Street, Reclamation Area, Bacolod City.

Floressa May Castro, SM public relations manager, yesterday said Bacoleños can look forward to a destination mall with the addition of more stores, leisure and entertainment facilities and a center for business and commerce.

When the expansion is completed in 2014, SM City Bacolod and its tenants hope to provide new jobs in Bacolod to handle various functions, either in the mall or the new and existing stores that we will house, she also said.

“SM City Bacolod is considered a medium mall versus the other SM Supermalls. When the expansion sees its completion, we can be classified as a medium-sized mall in comparison to its other SM City counterparts,” Castro said.

The Annex has a gross ground floor area of 102, 043 square meters that increased the total GFA of the mall to 171, 380, she said. The Annex will also offer a gross leasable area of 81.204 sqm.

Jollibee launches ‘new’ La Salle outlet

Constructed in 1994 as the second Jollibee store in Bacolod, the newly-renovated La Salle branch is the biggest in the Visayas-Mindanao region, Beng Huyong, Jollibee Foods Corp. Vice President for Visayas-Mindanao area said.

Representing the franchise owners, JunJun Ponce said the La Salle branch has been the most challenging, but with the team effort from the managers down to the crew, the store has been doing well for the past 17 years.

SM eyes 2,000 local jobs for mall expansion


SM City Bacolod eyes to generate additional 2,000 local jobs for Bacoleños and Negrenses as SM Prime Holdings, Inc. is spending P1.4 billion for the two-phase expansion of them all at Rizal Street, Reclamation Area, Bacolod City.

Floressa May Castro, SM public relations manager, yesterday said Bacoleños can look forward to a destination mall with the addition of more stores, leisure and entertainment facilities and a center for business and commerce.

When the expansion is completed in 2014, SM City Bacolod and its tenants hope to provide new jobs in Bacolod to handle various functions, either in the mall or the new and existing stores that we will house, she also said.

“SM City Bacolod is considered a medium mall versus the other SM Supermalls. When the expansion sees its completion, we can be classified as a medium-sized mall in comparison to its other SM City counterparts,” Castro said.

The Annex has a gross ground floor area of 102, 043 square meters that increased the total GFA of the mall to 171, 380, she said. The Annex will also offer a gross leasable area of 81.204 sqm.
