Yep....the La Carlota Pasalamat samba beat is unique and trademark of the festival. It differs from the Rio or the New Orleans samba beat with its slow, regular and fast tempo versions. And it has its own trademark samba steps just like how Sinulog for Cebu has its own trademark steps.

Leonardia said he anticipates that the MassKara Festival will give the city hotel room accommodation problems and among the casualties is the League of Cities of the Philippines that is supposed to hold its national board meeting in Bacolod in October.

He said the mayors want to see the MassKara Festival but at the moment, he cannot assure the LCP Secretariat that they can accommodate the 100-room request.

PPA to occupy new office
The Philippine Ports Authority- Port Management office in Bacolod City is set to transfer office from the Reclamation Area to the government acquired Banago Port in Brgy. Banago, also in Bacolod, a government press release said.

PPA Resource Division Manager Fetsy Diamante said the transfer is tentatively set by mid of May to the newly renovated P16.9 million building that will also house a passenger terminal and PMO office.
She said the development of the 640-square meter infrastructure is now 95 percent completed and once the port is fully operational, fees of clients could go down as it is now the government which will run it.

50 foods that define the Philippines

The TOP 10 plus NUMBER 25

BACOLOD'S BEST AT RANK 5
AND SILAY AND BACOLOD CITY'S PRIDE AT RANK 25

From adobo to turon -- the best bites to be savored around the archipelago
By Maida Pineda, Candice Lopez-Quimpo 6 January, 2012

Filipino food may not be as famous as that of its Thai and Vietnamese neighbors. But with more than 7,000 islands and a colorful history, this archipelago has some delicious dishes of its own.

Blessed with an abundance of seafood, tropical fruits and creative cooks, there’s more to Filipino dishes than the mind-boggling balut (duck embryo).

You just have to know where to find them and how to eat them.

Don't miss: World's 50 most delicious foods

Adobo -- common, but not ordinary.
1. Adobo

No list of Filipino food would be complete without adobo.

A ubiquitous dish in every household in the Philippines, it's Mexican in origin, but Filipinos found that cooking meat (often chicken and pork) in vinegar, salt, garlic, pepper, soy sauce and other spices, was a practical way to preserve meat without refrigeration.

This cooking style can be applied to different meats or even seafood. Sample it in a Filipino home or the garlicky version of the lamb adobo at Abe.

Abe, Serendra Plaza, Fort Bonifacio Global City, Taguig; +63 2 856 0526; www.ljcrestaurants.com.ph

Lechon -- this little pig went to our stomachs.
2. Lechon

The lechon is the most invited party guest in the Philippines. The entire pig is spit-roasted over coals, with the crisp, golden-brown skin served with liver sauce, the most coveted part.

In Cebu, the stomach of the pig is stuffed with star anise, pepper, spring onions, laurel leaves and lemongrass resulting in an extremely tasty lechon, which needs no sauce.

In Manila, get your piggy from Elar's Lechon, while in Cebu, the best is CnT Lechon.

Elar's Lechon, 151 Quezon Ave., corner Speaker Perez Street, Sta. Mesa Heights, Quezon City, Metro Manila; +632 731 7551. CnT Lechon, 1377 Rama Ave., Guadalupe, Cebu City; +63 3 2254 4249

Sisig -- no pig parts ever go to waste.
3. Sisig

Nothing goes to waste in the Filipino kitchen. In the culinary capital of Pampanga, they turn the pork’s cheeks, head and liver into a sizzling dish called Sisig.

The crunchy and chewy texture of this appetizer is a perfect match for an cold beer. Serve with hot sauce and Knorr seasoning to suit the preference of you and your buddies.

Credit goes to Aling Lucing who invented this dish at a humble stall along the train railways in Angeles City, Pampanga. While Sisig can be found in many restaurants, try the original version at Aling Lucing Sisig.

Aling Lucing Sisig, Valdez StcorAgapito Del Rosario Street, AngelesCity, Pampanga; +63 4 5888 2317

Also on CNNGo: 40 delicious Vietnamese foods

Crispy pata -- crunchy, juicy, chewy; a tasty trinity.
4. Crispy pata

Not for the easily spooked, this pork knuckle is simmered, drained and deep fried until crisp. The meat is tender and juicy inside, with a crisp, crackling exterior.

Served with vinegar, soy sauce and chili. If you have a craving for this at any time, Aristocrat is open 24 hours.

Aristocrat, 432 San Andres St., corner Roxas Blvd., Malate Manila; + 63 2 524 7671; www.aristocrat.com.ph

Chicken inasal -- you'll never go back to Nando's.
5. Chicken inasal

Yes, it's grilled chicken. But in Bacolod, this is no ordinary grilled chicken.

The meat is marinated in lemongrass, calamansi, salt, pepper and garlic and brushed with achuete (annatto seeds) oil.

Every part of the chicken is grilled here from the paa (drumstick), pecho (breast), baticulon (gizzard), atay (liver), pakpak (wings) and corazon (heart). It must be eaten with a generous serving of garlic rice, with some of the orange oil used to marinade the chicken poured over the rice.

Go chicken crazy at Manukan Country where there is a row of authentic Inasal restaurants.

Manukan Country, Reclamation Area, Bacolod City

Taba ng talangka -- crab fat; a rarity if ever there was one.
6. Taba ng talangka

The fat of a small variety of crabs are pressed and sautéed in garlic. This cholesterol-laden dish is often used as a sauce for prawns or eaten with fried fish and rice.

The best taba ng talangka comes from the provinces of Pampanga, Tarlac and Bulacan. Buy a bottle or two from the markets there, or pasalubong shops like Bulacan Sweets.

Bulacan Sweets, 155 N.S. Amoranto Ave., Quezon City, Metro Manila; +63 2 740 2171

7. Pancit Palabok

When Filipinos have guests, they don't skimp. The pancit palabok served on most birthday parties is oozing with flavor and textures.

The noodle dish is layered with rice noodles, a rich orange sauce made from shrimp broth, pork, hard boiled eggs, shrimps, chicharon (pork rinds) and sometimes oysters and squid. Enjoy the rich sauce of Perfect Loaf Bakery and Café.

Perfect Loaf Bakery and Café, Teresa Ave. corner St. Joseph Street, Nepo Mart Complex, Angeles City, Pampanga; +63 4 5888 6629

Also on CNNGo: Living amog the dead; the Philippines' graveyard residents

Bulalo -- the more marrow the merrier.
8. Bulalo

Despite the perennial heat, Filipinos often enjoy sipping piping hot bulalo soup made with from freshly slaughtered Batangas beef.

The broth is rich with flavors seeped from the beef after boiling for hours. The bones are big, meaning more bone marrow to enjoy.

In Santo Tomas, Batangas, there's a row of restaurants along the highway serving bulalo. But the best one stands out further away in nearby Tagaytay city, called Diner Café.

Diner Cafém Tagaytay-Batangas Highway, Tagaytay City; +63 4 6413 1845

Arroz caldo -- cold cure, Pinoy style.
9. Arroz Caldo

While chicken soup soothes sick Westerners, Filipinos turn to arroz caldo, a thick chicken rice porridge.

Cooked with ginger and sometimes garnished with a hard-boiled egg, toasted garlic and green onions, this comfort food is sold in street-side stalls.

If dining al fresco doesn’t suit you, try it at the Via Mare outlets around Manila.

www.viamare.com.ph

10. Fish tinola

The freshness of Cebu's rich marine life can be tasted in its fish tinola, a simple sour broth flavored with onions, tomatoes and sambag (tamarind) and cooked over coco-lumber firewood for hours.

Cebuanos know to go to A-One, a small hole in the wall known, cooking up to 200 kilos of fish daily.

A-One, Rd. North 6, North Reclamation, Cebu City

25. Lumpiang ubod

The fruit, leaves and even the pith of the coconut tree is used in Filipino cuisine. The pith makes a sweet and tender filling for the fresh lumpia, our version of the spring roll.

A delicate egg wrapper contains a savory filling of ubod (the pith of the coconut tree), shrimps, pork, onions and a garlicky sweet sauce.

Bacolod city is known for its petite version of this spring roll.

El Ideal Bakery, 118 Rizal St., Silay City, Negros Occidental; +63 34 495 4430 and Bailon Homemade Ilonggo Delicacies, 1115 Rodriguez Ave., Bangkal, Makati; +63 2 843 6673

The restaurants were selected by the region’s top restaurant critics, the Miele Guide said. In the Philippines, they are F&B World editor-in-chief Anne Marie Ozaeta, BusinessWorld food editor Jeffrey Valisno, Philippine Daily Inquirer food writer Margaux Salcedo, The Philippine Star food columnist Stephanie Zubiri, and magazine contributor Teddy Montelibano.

Internet users may vote for up to three restaurants in the country they live in via an online poll on the Miele Guide website. They may also nominate a new restaurant.

“When voting, please consider food quality, ambience and service level. You should have eaten in the restaurant in the past 18 months and are not an owner or employee,” the Miele Guide said.

A separate round of voting will also be conducted among a selected jury composed of “respected foodies” and food and wine professionals from the region selected by the Miele Guide.

Miele Guide’s in-house team will then dine anonymously at the most highly-rated restaurants to come up with the Asia’s Top 20 list for 2012/2013 edition, which will be published in October.

Aside from the Philippines, other countries covered by the Miele Guide include Brunei, Cambodia, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

^^the closure of the old airport has taken a toll at robs but that did not stop them from making good use of this building'; a better one at that.

Also first Robs in WV na may walkalators. :) tani gaandar pa dyapon. :)

It was a wise move for Robinsons to turn the building into a Cybergate Center and put BPO's since this created a new demand for the area. Damo ma na da taga iban na lugar nga ga work da so booming ang residential and commercial business sa area. :D

As migo @SUV111 mentioned, its WV's first Robs Cybergate. :)

daw indi na guro migs feasible. Kay sang una may ara trips nga Negros Navigation Bacolod-Dumaguete kag Trans Asia and Cebu Ferries nga Cebu-Bacolod ..... te mas mahal daan ang fast craft kesa bus

^^ I see. Salamat sa info, Doc. I was thinking, we need to cut travel time from Bacolod to Sipalay, if we are to market Bacolod as gateway to Sipalay. Pero mas mayo man kung pwde na to sila ka baton eroplano sa ila airfield para direcho na guid.

And we still have other local players like Proxima Centauri nga ga haboy man millions. After 2-5 years, daw nagpa-Belo ni ang Bacolod. Grabe ang transformation ka ichura. ;)

Better facilities will sprout Bacolodwide in the next two to three years.

maybe a high speed transit system would do but maybe if functional na ang airstrip sang Sipalay or mag open na ang Kabankalan Airport and a regular shuttle. remember ang Caticlan started out as an airstrip with chartered cessna and piper comanche planes

IN SILAY
Hofileña heritage house marks 50 years

The Hofileña Heritage House, the first ancestral house in Silay City, Negros Occidental, to open its doors to the public in 1962, will celebrate its 50th year, tomorrow and on June 15, a press release from the Silay Tourism Office said.

An open house, limited to the first 50 visitors, will be held starting 3 p.m. tomorrow, with house owner Ramon Hofileña touring the guests. Postcards on the house will be distributed; the Kabataang Silay Rondalla will play musical numbers popular 50 years ago; and Rizaliana books donated by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines will be raffled off, the press release also said.

On June 15, a movie on the house will be shown at the Sen. Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center, at 4 p.m. The screening is open to the public for free, it also said.

The Hofileña Heritage House is the first home in Silay to be installed with a historical marker as “national treasure for the present and future generations” by the NHCP; and declared as a museum, despite being inhabited, by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the press release said. It displays more than 1,000 arts pieces of Filipino masters, including national hero Jose Rizal, and various national artists, the press release added.*

Bacolod - "City of Smiles"
Brief Description
Prior to the coming of the Spaniards in Negros in 1565, there existed a small village near the mouth of the Magsungay river. It was a small settlement inhabited by Malayans who belonged to the "Taga-ilog" group.
When the neighboring settlement of Bogo (now Bago City) was elevated into the status of a small town in 1575, it had several religious dependencies, one of which was the village of Magsungay.
The early missionaries place the village of Magsungay under the care and protection of St. Sebastian sometime in the middle of the 1700s. A "corrigidor" by the name of Luis Fernando de Luna (1777-1779), donated a relic of St. Sebastian for a growing mission, and since then, the village came to be known as "San Sebastian de Magsungay".
In 1770, the small village of Magsungay was firmly established under the leadership of the first "governadorcillo" or "Capitan Municipal" by the name of Bernardo de los Santos.
With the cloud of insecurity hanging over them due to the rampant attacked of the Moro pirates, the people of Magsungay decided to move a few kilometers inland where upon on a hilly terrain, which they called "Buklod", the people established a new settlement. There, on this hilly terrain, Magsungay became the settlement of Bacolod
In 1806, Fr. Leon Pedro, having appointed as "propitario" of Bacolod, became the first parish priest. From there, a young priest from Barcelona, envisioned the construction of San Sebastian Cathedral, in the name of Fr. Gonzaga. Gradually, the people left the hilly terrain where they had started to progress, and eventually the place became known as "Camingawan" which means the place of loneliness.
In 1846, upon the request of Msgr. Romualdo Jimeno, Bishop of Cebu and Negros at the time, Governor-General Narciso claveria sent to Negros a team of Recollect missionaries headed by Fr. Fernando Cuenca. The following year, 1849, Gov. Valdevieso y Morquecho declared Bacolod as the capital of the whole island of Negros.
In 1938, under the administration of President Manuel L. Quezon, a bill was passed and approved making Bacolod a Chartered City, and was inaugurated as the 5th Chartered City under the Commonwealth period on October 19, 1938. The late Don Alfredo L. Montelibano, Sr. was appointed as its Chief Executive.
After nearly a couple of centuries from its founding as small settlement, Bacolod is now a bustling modern metropolis in the Western Visayas region and it is also the "Gateway to the Sugarland" because Bacolod is highly accessible to air or sea from its neighboring region.

It features the individual festivals in a colorful and jubilant street dance around the Panaad Park and Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
