UK miner upgrades mineral resource estimate for Negros
By Louella D. Desiderio (The Philippine Star) Updated June 25, 2012 12:00 AM Comments (0)

United Kingdom-based miner Copper Development Corp. (CDC) has upgraded its mineral resource estimate for the Hinoba-an copper project in Negros Occidental, enhancing the economic potential of the mine.

CDC said in a statement late Friday that the gross mineral resource at the Hinoba-an copper project has risen to 339 million tons at an average grade of 0.35 percent copper containing 1.187 million tons of copper based on a cut-off grade of 0.2 percent copper.

The contained copper of the estimate at a 0.20 percent copper cut-off grade amounts to almost 1.2 million tons, a level that is attractive to many mining companies,” he said.

Marañon: Mechanization to boost Negros rice self-sufficiency target
BY CARLA GOMEZ

http://www.visayandailystar.com/2012/June/26/pix/demo%20page%201.jpg
Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said Negros Occidental, which is expected to become self-sufficient in rice by next year, will get a further boost with the move toward mechanization that will increase farmers’ production and incomes.

Negros Occidental currently produces 96 percent of its rice needs, and aims to become self-sufficient in rice by 2013, “we are almost there, but not yet there,” he said.

The province is currently ranked ninth in the country in terms of volume of rice production, he said.

The Kubota combined harvester can harvest, thresh, clean and bag one hectare of palay in two hours, he said.

“We are trying to mechanize our rice industry that is 20 years behind,” he said.

Ramon Uy Jr., an organic farmer, said the rice straw that remain in the fields after harvesting are also added income for the farmers.

NEW COLLEGE IN MURCIA

Ming Yuan College trimester classes up

The Catholic Ming Yuan College-Tech, the education arm of the Monks of Lux Mundi, in Blumentritt, Murcia, Negros Occidental, has announced the start of its trimester classes on July 30, its press release said.

Course offerings for year 2012-2013 are a two-year business entrepreneurship, and the eco-farm-tourism management, a certified program of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

The monks of Lux Mundi have been working closely with Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr. to create avenues for international cooperation in agriculture, trade, investments, and building lasting friendship with international and local organizations since 2009, the press release said.

The monastery and demo farm was recently granted a franchise to operate by the Management Association of the Philippines and the Meralco MFI Foundation. It aims to improve the lives of small farmers by promoting innovative educational programs, especially for children; and to help set up livelihood opportunities for agribusiness students, alumni, parents and the communities, the press release also said.

Those interested may contact the school at 345-2309 or 0917-3119938 or email philcsjb@yahoo.com, the press release added.*

Bacolod ROD junks SMPHI adverse claim on Capitol land
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The Register of Deeds has denied the adverse claim of SM Prime Holdings Inc. on the 7.7-hectare prime property of the Negros Occidental provincial government in Bacolod City, the sale and lease of which to Ayala Land Inc. has not been acted on yet by the Commission on Audit.

Maryann Manayon-Lamis of the Provincial Legal Office, said citing a Supreme Court ruling, in her letter to ROD-Bacolod, that the bidding process and the exercise of the Committee on Bids and Awards of its functions is purely discretionary, and of such wide latitude, that the discretion to accept or reject a bid or award contracts cannot be compelled by mandamus or injunction.

Those interested may contact the school at 345-2309 or 0917-3119938 or email philcsjb@yahoo.com, the press release added.*

i think madugayan pa na ang old airport since naga reklamo si Tan of lack of infra.bisan may isa lg mangisog una put up sa south.

may potential:

1. Araneta property - Magsungay
2. Cebu Pac
3. Old Airport

SP Thanks PCSO For Putting Up Satellite Office in Negros Occidental
Submitted by Edith Colmo on Wed, 06/27/2012 - 06:46 Bacolod City Edith Colmo Local News Sum-ag

The resolution of Bacolod’s Sangguniang Panlungsod requesting the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to put up a satellite office in Negros Occidental, was approved. This was learned from the information of no less than Margarita P. Juico, chairman, PCSO., who herself informed the Committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry, Fisheries and Agriculture.

Establishing satellite office here will help our residents in accessing medical assistance from PCSO without necessarily spending for travelling expenses in going to PCSO Offices in Iloilo, Cebu or Manila.

Expressing gratitude to Chairman Juico, the SP approved the resolution of Councilor Carl Lopez, thanking Chairman Juico for approving the request of the SP to put up a satellite office in Negros Occidental.

The additional 73,373.653 MT must reach the US by the end of August, and only 10,000 MT more are needed to fill it, she said.

She said 25,000 MT is currently being loaded on to a ship at the BREDCO port in Bacolod City, at another 25,000 MT will be loaded on to another vessel next week.

^^ Very realistic Mig. I like your suggestion.:banana::banana: Color-coded jeepneys with tourism-themed decals/wraps tapos naka uniform ang driver.

Oo mig, pwede gid ni himuon. I schedule man dayon ang byahe sang mga jeepney just like odd-even scheme para nga mas efficient. Sa subong nga sistema, tam-an ka inefficient sang aton transportation kay damo nga jeepney nagabyahe nga bakante or dutay katama sang pasahero. They consume almost the same amount of fuel compared sa puno nga jeepney, so damo ka waste fuel. Not to mention added pollution kag traffic.

If Bacolod can put a system in place nga sundon sang tanan mas tinlo kag mas tawhay ang resulta. Added pa nga benefit nga ma maximize ang byahe sang kada driver kag ma orasan man ang byahe sang kada pasahero. Just like trains here in Japan, ma search mo lang sa internet kun ano oras ka makaabot sa imo destination if you take this specific train at this specific time. You can save a lot of time when travelling, wala pa sakit ulo sa mga paugat nga driver :lol::lol:

one advantage sg bus is dako volume nga pasahero makarga nya therefore lesser bus units ang magamit.that could really help decongest.but yes, may point ka.bisan ano matabo unahon ta gihapon prioritize ng pangabuhian sg kadam-an.:)

Oo mig, kag bisan ang plano nga BRT gani sa Cebu would still require jeepneys coming from residential areas to feed the BRT lines. For me this is still the same thing, somebody will just make a killing from the BRT deal if you know what i mean

No need to reinvent the wheel ah, gamiton ta na lang ang existing ta nga infrastructure kag i-organize lang. All we need to do from here is to figure out the distance sang isa ka route, pila ang passenger volume at different times of the day (morning rush hour, lunch time, etc) and then we can calculate kun pila ang needed nga jeepneys mag serve at a specific time and adjust the jeepney schedules accordingly. Let's say sa morning 5 jeepneys ang naga depart kada minuto from each stop kun morning rush hour. It's still just like the train, autonomous lang galing ang kada carriage  Wala dapat overtaking kag overspeeding, since nga de oras man ang arrival kag departure sang kada jeepney.

When it comes sa franchises naman sang route, i-reallocate lang ang mga franchises from routes nga damo katama salakyan to serve other routes with lower jeepney count. Hitting many birds with one stone, all it needs is budget and political will :lol::lol:

Exactly migs. Diri na masulod ang political will sang aton leaders. Agree gid ko sa imo, bisan indi na gani corporation, cooperative na lang, this will work. ^^i think nobody disagrees with having a JRT as you suggested it...my point of having drivers salary based as against the normal practice of having to pay for "boundary" is that drivers tend to scramble for passengers on the road. ang sunod, kaskas na, overtaking, overspeeding, kuha pasahero left, right and in the middle of the road. and that's where the problem starts.:)

Tahum gani....daw wala ko nag dahum dahum nga matahum na da ang building...

Good morning Bacolod!

Katahum na sang BOC building. Katahum na guid sang Lacson with improved sidewalk. :D

Nami pag guid butangan da marker nga "Welcome to Bacolod's Food Tourism Strip" kag tani may isa ka building sa Lacson nga province-owned nga daw food complex with each LGU running one restaurant, featuring its best food products. Daw Panaad Park concept pero food lang tanan. Basta more food businesses kag hotels along Lacson ah. Hehehe

ahhh...I would disagree siguro in stopping jeepneys that ply the Lacson Tourism Strip. Better yet, no parking on both sides of the street and be strict on jeepney stops along that area.

Or pwede man nga instead sang bus ang normal lang gihapon nga jeep ang gamiton, butangan lang schedule kag parihoson ang color sang tanan nga jeep sa kada route para nga nami tulukon. May designated stops lang dayon (alternate stops every other 3 blocks) The city can coordinate with different operators para mag ugyon ang tanan. If we go for BRT damo gid ma displace nga gagmay nga operators. But if you go for a JRT (jeepney rapid transit) everybody happy.

Budlay na galing migs ang color-coding, and an odd-even scheme is not yet feasible since may iban pa man ta nga streets nga wala na utilize for PUJ routes. Better yet follow Metro Cebu's number and letter code wherein a certain route has a fixed number code. Then limit the number of vehicles for each franchise routes wherein there should be one jeepney for a certain number of commuters on that route. Then study routes that could be revised to decongest our major streets in the next 5 years

Tahum gani....daw wala ko nag dahum dahum nga matahum na da ang building...

ahhh...I would disagree siguro in stopping jeepneys that ply the Lacson Tourism Strip. Better yet, no parking on both sides of the street and be strict on jeepney stops along that area.

Actually and akon idea about the same color is more on aesthetics lang, para nami lang tulukon. I understand dali ta maubusan color swatches if amo na ang himuon ta nga designator sang routes

About sa number of jeepneys agree ko dira doc, amo na nga need i-reallocate ang iban nga jeepneys para nga mas mangin efficient ang system. Pwede pa dayon maka designate sang "express jeepneys" for example Libertad-La Salle, indi sila pwede ka stop kag pick up pasahero in between. That way students will prefer to take this route, while ang normal nga pasahero indi magpagutok sakay sa express.

Yes migs. That's why I was confused when she said that. Maybe from the very beginning, La Salle Avenue was really owned by De La Salle and is a part of the 10 hectare lot donated to them. Nag.open lng guro sng ulihi for Shopping-La Salle. I'm just not sure. Na-confuse mn ko gne kay pati ang L'Ecole dalasa kag ang mga commercial establishments dira nayun.:nuts: Maybe Eroreco will have it's alternate route. i agree with that. that is, if that's really the case (that the government was the one that developed la salle ave). :) what im referring to is the part of la salle avenue from mcdo la salle to montelibano ave. intersection only. :)

^^the presence of lamp posts along la salle, the bridge and the cemented road out of government funds are proof enough that la salle avenue was already government property.:) simply because the government can not appropriate funds for the development of a private property.

Hitting many birds with one stone, all it needs is budget and political will :lol::lol:

regulation lg gd tuod and maybe some additional laws

^^i think nobody disagrees with having a JRT as you suggested it...my point of having drivers salary based as against the normal practice of having to pay for "boundary" is that drivers tend to scramble for passengers on the road. ang sunod, kaskas na, overtaking, overspeeding, kuha pasahero left, right and in the middle of the road. and that's where the problem starts.:)

indi man ayhan mig pirdi aton nga mga kauturan nga drivers ung mag salary based sila?

^^It's good to be back with these updates. Nkabalik nmn gd ko after 5 days of being in the brig for a reason that I do not know. The sad thing is, indi na pwede ka-sulod sa La Salle Ave. ang mga PUJs after that. It will become an exclusive road daw for private vehicles. That is, according to her. :)

Na donate na ina migs sang mga Montelibano ang La Salle Ave to the city government as a road lot. The best that they could do is have the Shopping Libertad jeepneys along BS Aquino Drive right turn at Gallardo St. (small street between Jollibee and Quan and Doctors) thern out to La Salle Ave all the way then right turn to CL Montelibano straight up to the Northside Baptist church then left turn to Bugnay St. out to La Salle Ave again. NO U TURN ALONG LA SALLE AVE.

In this route we avoid the jeepneys making stupid chokepoints at Jollibee La Salle and unecessary u-turns along Main Strip Alley and Capitolville.

Pwede na dayon butangan metal railings, and/or concrete barriers in specific areas in the middle of La Salle Ave to keep traffic and pedestrians in order

ILOILO City – Motorcycle drivers must only use quality helmets, stressed the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
When buying helmets, always look for the Product Standard (PS) mark or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker, said DTI Regional Director Dominic Abad.

^^sad to say migs but the facilities in brgy mailum is up for transfer na to the oriental side because the one installed was designed to produce at a higher capacity while the fields in bago can only come up with a capacity between 5 and 10MW. i dunno if EDC plans to continue its operation albeit at a lower capacity or totally shut down the plant.:)

yes mig ive read an article regarding the issue but im not sure if transfer man gd sila.i think ma explore pa gd sila gling damo indi gusto.as i can remember daw limited lg na ila exploration before due to some environmental issues.

Repair of Pahanocoy-Sum-ag road slated July

BACOLOD City lone district Representative Anthony Golez Jr. said on Wednesday the repair of the Pahanocoy-Sum-ag-Bago City road might be implemented in July.

“Funds were already allocated for the project and the DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) has already received a notice to proceed,” said Golez about the project, which involves about P300 million, and covers the widening and improvement of the roads and possibly the bridges in those areas.

Mambukal gets P33M villas, pool
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Seven villas and a dipping pool worth P33.3 million will be inaugurated at the Mambukal Resort in Murcia, Saturday, while two hotel chains have also expressed interest in building a hotel there, Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said yesterday.

To be inaugurated at the resort owned by the provincial government are seven villas with four rooms each worth P27.3 million, and a P6 million dipping pool designed by a Japanese consultant.

The governor said the provincial government is also eyeing a joint venture with a hotel chain for the construction of a hotel at the site of the old lodge at the resort, he said.

The provincial government is still looking for investors, and two hotel chains, so far, have expressed interest in the project, he said.*CPG

Lawmaker, ports agency inaugurate Banago terminal

By Carla N. Canet
Thursday, June 28, 2012

Golez said this project is part of his priorities under the “Better Port, Better Bacolod” program, as he always believed that improving the PPA port and facilities will raise the quality of its services not only to Bacolodnons and Negrenses but to the entire Filipino people.

The project will also make the port more competitive for other commercial shipping companies to dock at Banago and thus, will open more routes from and to Banago, he said.

The lawmaker said the Banago Port is considered as a cultural site for most Bacolodnons and Negresenses.

He recalled said that in 1932, there were prominent families in the province and city who thought of connecting the Negros Island with the other islands of the archipelago via shipping in hopes that mobility of the people and the transport of the province’s sugar produce may be enhanced.

With the capitalization of P50 million, the dream was realized and later led to the construction of Negros Navigation Co. Inc. (Nenaco) of the Banago Port, which, at that time, was made of wooden planks.

The wooden pier flourished for 29 years until August 10, 1961 when Nenaco entered into a 25-year Foreshore Lease Contract (FLC) with the National Government. On August 10, 1984, the original FLC was renewed for two years ahead of expiry, advancing the period of the renewal of the contract.

Since 1961, Nenaco introduced port works, improvements and facilities in the leased foreshore area, operating it as a private port duly registered under the PPA.

On August 9, 2009, when the lease finally expired, however, all of the foreshore area covered by the lease, including the port facility and the vertical structures thereon, reverted to the government.

This paved the way for the construction of the passenger terminal and PMO building, the lawmaker said.

Part of the Banago port and surrounding areas still belongs to Nenaco. Since 2009 up to now, there has not been a delineation of which part has reverted to the National Government and which part is retained under lease by the Nenaco.

As such, government funds cannot be mobilized to develop the port because it is still unclear if government funds will be spent on the area, which has already reverted to government ownership, explained the lawmaker.

Golez said he requested Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia last year to act on and approve the Port Zone Delineation but there has been no action from City Hall.

The lawmaker lamented that, by Leonardia’s withholding of approval for the Port Zone Delineation, the mayor is practically blocking the P700-million to P800-million total development and modernization of Banago Port as the first and only public port in Bacolod.

Published in the Sun.Star Bacolod newspaper on June 28, 2012.

I have to disagree with you migs ah....ang tabuk ang una nag celebrate sang Chinese New Year as a formal citywide celebration...the first outside metro manila

For me wala man kaso if we wont change the name to Chinatown since Manila's Chinatown is called Binondo....so sa Bacolod ya "SHOPPING".....makes it more unique ah

Bacolod Shopping Center lng japon ah.

i doubt mig since Avida units are for sale.the lot where Kukon will soon be rising is for lease :)
