Bacolod City – Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes sent a warning to all the 108 lb champions out there with a stunning first round knockout win over Armando Vasquez of Mexico. Nietes had shaky moments as he missed the first few punches that he threw as Vasquez stunned him with a left.

But Nietes cornered Vasquez and landed a right hook that sent the Mexican crashing down to the canvas. Referee Bruce McTavish started the ten count, Vasquez tried to get up but could not even get on his feet. Official time – 2:26 of the opening round

The WBO minimumweight champion from Murcia, Negros Occidental is set to go for a second world title and is eying the winner of the WBO interim lt.flyweight title bout between Jesus Geles and Ramon Garcia Hirales.

Good Morning...just got home from Panaad.

grabe ang experience ko.first time guro natabo nga amo sini kadamo ang tawo.na stalled ang foot traffic.almost one hour kag nakagwa.from the stadium up to RPHS Gym imagine bala nga wala galakat.
another problem to solve for next year's Panaad.dapat ma actionan as early.

Huge or humungus crowd..the right word for Panaad 2011 audience.

why oh why this SSC mods always gives zero post count to every forumer here when the latest thread closed?...not a good idea.

University of St. La Salle (USLS)-Bacolod dominated National University (NU) all-game-long and essayed a straight-set 25-19, 25-18, 25-17 victory as it firmed up its quarterfinal drive in the eighth Shakey’s V-League conference at The Arena in San Juan City on Sunday.

The Lady Stingers outhit, out-blocked and outserved the Stingers with a superb stint on both ends, with Patty Orendain and skipper Kay Aplasca churning out a pair of double-digit outputs to lead the attack and the rest holding the Lady Bulldogs without a player in twin-digit scores.

It was USLS’s second win in three starts in the single-round robin elims as it closed in one of the berths in the Last 8 phase of the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and backed by Mikasa, the official ball, and Accel as official outfitter.

Orendain rammed in 16 kills, while Aplasca scored six service aces and six hits in a solid outing that rubbed off to her teammates, including Royce Quijano, Charmaine Moralde, Floradele Dolar and April Hingpit, who combined for 23 points.

The Stingers, bracing for a crucial match against University of Perpetual Help next week, scored 38 points on spikes as against NU’s 27 while making 12 service aces as against their rival’s two.

The Bacolod-based squad also flourished in nonscoring skills, making 31 excellent digs, including 13 from guest libero Rebbie Delotindo, while coming up with 31 sets as against NU’s 25 and 17, respectively.

The Lady Bulldogs slid to 1-2, just half-a-game ahead of St. Benilde, winless in two starts in the league organized by Sports Vision.

NU, which rebounded from a 0-3 loss to Perpetual Help with a 3-1 victory over St. Benilde last week, drew 26 points from the combined effort of Maricar Nepomuceno, guest players Denise Santiago, Cherry Vivas and Monique Tiangco with Nepomuceno leading the charge with eight hits.

33 Negrenses Qualified for 2011 DOST-SEI Scholarship

A total of 33 high school graduates from Negros Occidental passed the scholarship exam given in November 2010 nationwide by the Science Education Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-SEI).

DOST-SEI scholars under the RA 7687, a scholarship program for talented and deserving students belonging to economically disadvantaged families, will receive tuition fee subsidy and other school fees, book allowance, monthly living allowance for 10-11 month duration and more. On the other hand, DOST-SEI Merit scholars receive the same benefits as the RA 7687 scholars except for a pro-rated monthly stipend depending on their economic status.

Qualifiers can enroll in state universities and other schools recognized as Centers of Excellence or Centers of Development by the Commission on Higher Education.

nakatawa man ko sa imo @tito ba...sa akon nga nahibaluan, halin norte pakadto sur sg isla sg negros ang mga ginakuha ni coach roger...mapati pa ko nga may ara players from oriental negros kay i have classmates nga halin dumaguete before nga varsity sg la salle :D

OT : sa dizon hall ko ya gatambay sg college pa ko. dira na gina-house ang mga players outside of bacolod city...that's the reason why i got to know personally ang kadamuan sg players...btw, there were also players from mindanao gale...halin sa USLS-supervised schools like from iligan and surigao...and also halin palawan...pero wala sg may halin sa tabok ah :)

^^i think since 2008 pa nagstart join ang USLS sa V-league since then every year na sila ga join. before USJ-R from Cebu now SWU naman. both teams are the powerhouse in voleyball in this side of the country.

correct migs...SWU naman this year kay sila ang nag-champion lately sa CESAFI....while sa NOPSSCEA, consistent guid nga USLS ang perennial champion! :)

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said there was a massive turnout at the Panaad sa Negros Festival in Bacolod City that ended Saturday and he is thankful to all those who made it a success.

The governor, who immediately held a post festival assessment yesterday to further improve it next year, said the traffic problem is a priority concern that will be addressed.

Complaints were aired yesterday that vehicles headed for the festival site Saturday night were stuck in traffic for nearly five hours.

Bacolod police director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, said the traffic was caused by stalled vehicles inside the festival site and by drivers who refused to follow traffic rules.

There were simply too many people and more vehicles than what the Panaad Park and Stadium could hold, said de la Paz, who estimated the crowd at about 40,000.

In the end, we had to make vehicles headed for the festival site back up and stop more from entering, he said.

Marañon said the huge crowd was an indication of the success of the festival this year.

He said the provincial government was conducting a post assessment to further improve it, and looking at holding more activities at the Panaad Park year round.

A first of such activities is a food festival being planned for the end of May, he said, noting the extraordinary dishes that were available at last week’s Panaad.

The governor said he, along with the provincial board members, are thanking the 32 mayors, the festival sponsors, media, tourists and the people of Negros Occidental for making this year’s festival a success.*CPG

Basta ang importante sa akon ang preservation sang Matab-ang and Caliban watershed dira sa Alangilan indi ma disturb because that gives us stable and potable water supply in Bacolod and neighboring cities/towns. so di lang nila pagpatam-an tiphag kag ukay ang mga suba kag slopes sang Alangilan. ^^

Panaad lives up to its theme

“PATUBAS sg Negrosanon, Manggad sg Nasyon” goes the theme for this year’s edition of the Panaad sa Negros Festival which closed with a big bang and a spectacular fireworks display last Saturday.

The weeklong festival showcased the best products and attractions in Negros Occidental.

All the towns and cities in the province tried to outdo each other in their displays and in the "pinaka" contest for agricultural and aquaculture products, as well as in the festival dances, floats, sportsfest and the most beauteous Negrense lass.

Living up to its theme, the festival was capped by the Farmers Day celebration on April 9 where Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. and Vice-Governor Genaro M. Alvarez, Jr. recognized and awarded the outstanding farmers of Negros Occidental.

The Panaad Festival aptly reflected the thrust of the Marañon administration for agricultural productivity and food sufficiency. It is through enhanced agricultural production that the province can alleviate poverty in the countryside.

We in the urban areas take agricultural production for granted as most of us have the wherewithal to procure food for our tables. Confident in our purchasing power, we often overlook the farmers and livestock producers who ensure that we have available food to bring home for our families.

The farmers and producers are the unsung heroes of the province’s economy. It is they who provide the nourishment for our bodies to give us the strength to work for our daily keep.

The Marañon administration’s tribute to our farmers and producers speaks volumes about the provincial government’s high regard for this sector and for its concern that every Negrense family should always have food on their tables.

The "patubas sg Negrosanon" is indeed the "manggad sg nasyon". If each and every province is self-sufficient in food, it can ensure that its constituents are amply provided for. A well-fed citizenry can concentrate in productive activities which can strengthen the economy.

Strong provinces make a strong nation. President Aquino can ease his worries with Negros Occidental, knowing that the Marañon administration got its priorities right and is working towards what is best for the Negrenses.

^^the area beside the airport migo is already proclaimed as an ecozone and is included in the 10 year silay city development plan so, there's some truth to it. as to when, we don't know. what's important is our local leaders are doing what they should be doing. :) its just a matter of time when all of this will unfold before us.

guys may friend whos working in a call center(one of the big call center in bacolod) he's a supervisor .. na ang airport kunu maging I.T park na da if the negotiation between two parties ma close na ang deal ..maging Asiatown Cebu look alike..kay ang ila company didto ma plastar.. thats why they are leasing a building as of now.. kag wala sila nag construct building na ila.. kay gin ask ko sa nga a wala gd nag construct building ang inyo company...sister company ni sa ka convergys

All it took was an overhead right punch from WBO boxing champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes to send Mexican Armando Vasquez to the canvass with 34 seconds left in the first round to validate his bid for the world light flyweight title.

It was not a title match but Nietes’ Saturday night fight at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City, witnessed by thousands of Negrenses, was a history of its own as the quiet boxer from Murcia dismissed his Mexican opponent in less than three minutes.

“We expected Donnie to come out strong. We never thought he would do it in the first round. We’re happy for him, for the Bacolod crowd, for Philippine boxing,” Michael Aldeguer, ALA Gym president and CEO said.

Pleased with the turn-out of the crowd at the USLS despite the closing night of the 18th Panaad sa Negros Festival, Aldeguer said Nietes’ stunning first round win augurs well for his first attempt at the interim World Boxing Organization light flyweight crown in July.

“It was a proud moment for all of us. Donnie validated our claim of having world-class boxers in our midst. He is more than ready to move forward and be a multiple-weight champion like our adopted son, Manny Pacquiao,” Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said.

Although born in Murcia, Nietes stayed in Brgy. Granada in Bacolod during his high school years. He was presented with the “Dungganon nga Bacolodnon” award by the city officials during the MassKara Festival a couple of years back.

“It was a very convincing victory. We’re looking forward to his title fight and we hope it will be held here again. I wish him all the luck and we will be supporting his fights in the future,” Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano, who awarded Nietes the trophy after the fight, said.

Showing support for Nietes, Montelibano bought tickets for the fight, which he distributed to Murciahanons, for them to watch their “kasimanwa” in his epic battle.

At the ringside were Nietes’ family and relatives who were overwhelmed with his victory.

“It has always been our dream to see him fight here in our province. We are confident that he will win against Vasquez and he made us very proud with the first round knockout punch,” his father, Josue, said.

Also beaming with pride from the sidelines was ALA Gym founder Antonio “Bidoy” Aldeguer, who has always believed in Nietes’ ability and boxing skills.

“He has arrived. We all knew at the ALA Gym that Donnie will make it. We will be supporting him the rest of the way,” the elder Aldeguer said.

The main event of the Pinoy Pride 5: Battle of Champions ended in less than three minutes but those who trooped to USLS to witness the slugfest were given a treat by three other Filipinos who also knockdown their opponents early in the fight.

Reigning WBO Asia Pacific Junior Welterweight champion Jason Pagara toppled the well-built and bull-strong African challenger Deo Njiku 1:58 in the second round, while WBO Oriental champion Lorenzo Villanueva needed five rounds to subdue Indonesian slugger James Mokoginta.

THE Talisay City Council has submitted a position paper relative to the Bacolod City Council Ordinance No. 461 that provides for the establishment of the Northbound terminal of Bacolod City.

The document was submitted to Bacolod City Councilor Dindo Ramos, chair of the City Council committee on transportation.

The Talisay City Council, through the committee on transportation and communications chaired by Councilor Jose Maria B. Astorga Jr., reiterated its request, "earnestly appealing for the exemption of public utility jeepneys plying the route Talisay-Bacolod from the coverage of the Bacolod City Ordinance No. 461, as amended."

Talisay said that growth of Bacolod City is very noticeable and traffic congestion goes with it. The establishment of the Northbound terminal is well placed.

However, it said this move will affect the nearest neighbor of Bacolod City, which is Talisay City.

Talisay City is just seven kilometers from Bacolod City. It is nearer than the distance from Sum-ag to Bacolod City proper. With the northbound terminal, the distance of will be reduced to five kilometers.

Talisay official said the planned terminal will greatly affect the operation of the PUJs plying the Talisay-Bacolod route. They will have a shorter route and fewer areas to pick up passengers.

With the transfer of terminal, a vacuum will be created in the Shopping to terminal route. A problem will rise on who will ply the route and possible conflict among the jeepneys in Bacolod may arise.

“Our students will incur double pay. Those students from Talisay studying in Bacolod will pay double fare. The same is true with students from Bacolod who are studying in Talisay City. Our businessmen, employees and residents who go to Bacolod to do business, work, or pay a visit will also pay double fare. The same is true with those who go to Talisay from Bacolod,” the Talisay council said.

Many of the residents in the subdivisions in Talisay are spill over from Bacolod. They live in Talisay but they do business and work in Bacolod. Many of these subdivision residents in Talisay remain as registered voters of Bacolod.

“With these issues taken into consideration, we feel the necessity for this appeal to be seriously considered for the good of the public. We are willing to sit down with you on this appeal should you find it necessary. Our only desire is for the best interest of the public be given due course,” the Talisay council said.

How about ang St. Benilde School? High school lang ni or may elementary man? Where is it located nga barangay? Part man ni sang La Salle system? Damo sa akon pamangkot!:D

It's St. Benilde Integrated School migs...it offers both primary and secondary programs (integrated)...it's a USLS-supervised school and not yet a La Salle district school....correct me if I wrong @sir rick...indi layo nga mangin district school naman ni sya...btw, wala na ina ang DLSU (or La Salle) System...district schools na ang tawag. so far, there are 18 La Salle district schools scattered in the whole archipelago :)

The USLS-Integrated School girls volleyball team retained the championship crown after an intense game against former titlist Hope Christian High School of Manila in the Season 8 of the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League Tournament of Champions held at the College Covered Court from April 4-8.

The IS girls sealed their come from behind victory over HCHS with the scores 19-25, 23-25, 25-28, 25-17, 15-4.

“We learned from our weaknesses during the first two sets and countered it during the third and fourth sets. I am very glad and honored that I’m playing for La Salle” said USLS team captain and Most Valuable Player Fritz Joy Gallenero.

Gallenero was also named Best Attacker.

Gizelle Jessica Tan was hailed Best Setter while team coach Marilou Lozada was hailed the season’s Best Coach.

Pajo National High School of Cebu bagged third place school followed by Central Philippine University of Iloilo landing in the fourth spot.

@underoath you are 99% right.... St. Benilde School is used to be a supervised school... Right now it's no longer supervised since it has elevated its status to affiliate.....
There is no more DLSU System since it is now replaced by DLSP or the De La Salle Philippines.

Every summer... (I'm lucky that I am part of)... we converge at DLSU Taft for a 3-day Planning and Evaluation of the curriculum... how to improve it further for the benefit of the students.... Right now all La Salle Schools in the Philippines adopt the same Teaching-Learning Approach...

That makes us truly ONe Lasalle...If only the students know how we brainstorm on how we can further improve the quality of instruction and how we can further improve the facilities... to bring back to students every single money that they invest to the school... that makes lasalle different from other institution coz nobody profits since nobody owns it but the students....
