Bacoleña going to royal wedding (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2011/April/28/topstory8.htm)
Bacoleña Araceli “Lillie” Piccio, the only Filipina invited to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, says she is wearing a dress designed for her by Lourdes Lipa of Bacolod.
Piccio, a nurse, who was one of the three official royal nannies of both Prince William and Prince Harry from 1985 to 1999, told Danny Buenafe, ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau Chief, said she will tell the royal couple “May the good Lord bless and keep you…(and) may you have many children”.
Piccio worked for Princess Diana up to the time she died. She told the DAILY STAR then that they had been waiting for the princess to return from her vacation when they heard of her death, and that she was the one who closed the drapes in Diana’s room for the last time.
She later worked for Princess Margaret, the younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II.
Piccio told ABS-CBN the last time she saw Prince William and Prince Harry was in 2002 when Princess Margaret died.
Prince William and Prince Harry inherited many positive values from their mother, she said, noting that even if they are members of the royalty, they are humble and mingle with average people.
Piccio became emotional during the television interview when asked if she misses the late princess Diana. She said Diana was incomparable, someone who would open up to her despite her royal status, ABS CBN reported.
Piccio is only one of more than 100 former royal staff invited to the reception.
From Clarence House, the staff members, including Piccio. will be led to nearby Buckingham Palace, ABS CBN reported.*

Equestrian out of PNG; 35 events to be contested
By Jerome S. Galunan Jr.
Friday, April 29, 2011
FROM the original 36 events to be contested next month for the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) – Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Philippine National Games, it was cut down to 35 sports disciplines after equestrian was erased from the list.
PSC Commissioner Jose Luis ‘Jolly’ Gomez told Sun.Star-Bacolod that it was the Equestrian Association of the Philippines (EAP) that decided to omit the event. “The EAP believed that it would be too costly to stage this event. Maybe sometime in the future, we can have the competition to provide better exposure to the event,” Gomez explained.
“It will cost P80,000 to ship one horse to Bacolod. Masyadong mahal (It’s too expensive),” the PSC official added.
Meanwhile, PSC has already released the dates of the competitions and venues of various sports events.
On May 22, coinciding with the opening of the PNG hostilities will be the start of the following disciplines: in Bacolod City, the marathon (3K, 5K and 10K) will start at the Panaad Park and Stadium, the route of which will be announced next month; the athletic events will also begin at the Panaad track oval while gymnastics competition will commence at St. John’s Institute and Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod. Both the athletics and gymnastics will run through May 26.
Also on the same day, the 3-day canoe kayak and dragon boat competitions will start sailing at the Bantayan Park in Bago City while the arnis event will also unfold at Silay City Public Plaza and will conclude on May 27.
On May 23, seven other events will also begin their respective competitions. These are Bacolod-based events that include the 6-day beach volleyball and the week-long indoor volleyball at the University of St. La Salle; the 3-day karatedo at the Bacolod Arts Center of Bacolod City National High School (BCNHS) and the week-long lawn tennis event at the Montalvo Tennis Court and Center Court Tennis Club.
In Bago City, the 5-day muay thai event will also kick off at the Manuel Torres Coliseum and Cultural Center while the week-long futsal competition will also take place at the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) gym, as well as the women’s football at CHMSC and the Yanson football pitches. The 5-day penkak silat contest will also start at Talisay Public Plaza.
On the other hand, events like badminton (Pohang Badminton Center), billiards (Bacolod Tay Tung High School), fencing (University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos), softball (BCNHS), baseball (Manuel Torres Sports Complex in Bago City), table tennis (Talisay City gymnasium), archery (Doña Montserrat Lopez High School) and sepak takraw (Natalio Velez Multi-Purpose gym) will begin on May 24.
On May 25, among the events to reel off are sailing (Lopue’s Family Beach Resort), swimming (Panaad Swimming Pool), taekwondo (Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center) and cycling-road race (Silay to Talisay City Hall).
Other events to start on May 26 are weightlifting (Panaad) and wind surfing (Lopue’s Family Beach Resort) while on May 27, the events to unfold are soft tennis (UNO-R), wrestling (BCNHS) and wall climbing (Ruins).
Sports disciplines to kick off on May 28 are motorsports (Old Bacolod Airport runway), wushu (MTCCC) and triathlon (swim – Marina to Pacific Shore; bike – Talisay to Silay; and run – Talisay).

Friday, April 29, 2011
NEGROS-Domingo Lacson National High School (DLNHS) batters are eyeing twin titles today as both the Juniors and the Seniors squads swing their way to the championship matches in the ongoing 2011 Little League Philippine Series played in Lipa City, Batangas.
The Juniors squad, carrying a clean 5-0 card, will be facing the Smokey Mountain batters as their last assignment while the Seniors (4-1) will take on the Muntinlupa softbelles.
If the Juniors win over Smokey Mountain today, they will automatically bag the division crown while a victory for the Seniors over Muntinlupa will grant them the right for a rematch in the championship against International Little League Association of Manila (ILLAM).
The Negrense batters had an 11-7 triumph over ILLAM during Sunday’s opening match.
Yesterday, the Juniors scored a 16-0 blast over Pasig while the Seniors swept Cebu and Bulacan, 9-8 and 7-6, respectively.
The winners of these week-long hostilities will earn them the ticket to the 2011 Asia-Pacific Regional Tournament to be played at the University of St. La Salle here in Bacolod City on June 20-25, 2011. JSG

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia will leave for Las Vegas next week to be part of the Team Pacquiao as either a flag bearer or a championship belt holder.
Earlier, Filipino boxing king Manny Pacquiao officially invited Leonardia, whom the pugilist considers his lucky charm, to join his few trusted friends to come into the ring with him for his forthcoming fight with Shane Mosley on May 8, 2011.
“May I count on your support once more as I face another tough fight with Mosley of the USA?” asked Pacman.
Also invited were Bacolod’s first lady Madam Elsa and daughter Loren Kara.
“It gives me a greater heart to do my best when I can feel that my fellow Filipinos, especially my family and friends like you, are there rooting for me in the crowd,” Pacman told the mayor.
The mayor’s political opponents ridicule him for being a lowly ‘belt bearer’ but Leonardia said, “I never asked for that honor. It was Manny’s choice.”

REP. ALBEE BENITEZ (2nd from left, seated) and Talisay City Mayor Eric Saratan (1st from left, seated) at the MOA signing for the creation of the Talisay City Division of School.
MOA for Talisay interim
schools division signed (http://thedailyguardian.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=23870&Itemid=97)
BACOLOD City – The establishment of the Talisay City’s schools division is already underway as Rep. Alfredo “Albee” B. Benitez (3rd District, Negros Occidental) and Talisay City Mayor Eric M. Saratan, M.D. signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Education for the realization of the interim school division of Talisay City April 26 at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
Also present in the MOA signing were Dr. Mildred Garay, DepEd Region 6 director, and Rizalino Tortosa, Schools Division superintendent of Negros Occidental.
In 2008, the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Talisay City adopted Resolution No. 103 Series of 2008, urging the Department of Education to create a separate schools division for Talisay City.
The said resolution also granted authority to Mayor Saratan to enter into a MOA with DepEd for the establishment of the interim city schools division in said city.
“I am very thankful that this initiative was finally realized. This would guarantee better delivery of quality education to our constituents” Mayor Saratan said.
“The interim schools division would mean recruitment of more teaching personnel to cope with the influx of more enrolees every school year,” he added.
Based on the MOA, Rep. Benitez and the Talisay City government will subsidize the various expenditures that will be incurred by the interim schools division. Both parties will allocate P2 million each for every school year until the budget for the schools division is included in the General Appropriations Act (GAA).
Benitez said the interim schools division is a necessary step towards the improvement of education system in the district.

redhotchili23 April 28th, 2011, 11:48 PM I hope you won't take this badly or a CVC reply but I disgagree with the fact that Iloilo has just its rich history to rely on. In fact when you come to think of it, Iloilo produces the most graduates in the whole of Region 6. That has to mean something. And I believe my city is a lot more than delicacies and batchoy as Bacolod is more than just inasal and Masskara. And if there's nothing more to Iloilo than being a regional center, I don't think Weesam Express or Supercat would even bother adding more trips to their schedules. And might I ask you, if Iloilo is nothing, what about your city? What about Bacolod? At least Iloilo has St Paul and WVSU. How about you? The most prestigious educational institute you got there is USLS. And it doesn't even come close to SPUI or WVSU when it comes to academic results. I'm sorry to say that but if reality bites us, reality will bite you too.
Stand alone stores, Convergys, Teleperformance, kag Gloria Jeans. Those are the only things you have that we don't. And when you think of it, those don't even matter.
And lastly, your post shows how unGodly you are. Gina lang mo ang mga simbahan? I'm sorry if I sound so shallow and like a kid here but those are houses of God. It shows how religous we are and how much we value Him. Because in the end, he will be all that matters. Not some callcenter, some building , some high end subdivision or some coffeeshop. :)
USLS does not come close to SPUI and WVSU when it comes to academic results because USLS performs better than these schools. Diin lang nag mayo ang SPUI kag WVSU haw? Sa Nursing lang man.:lol:
Animo!
gustokiddo April 28th, 2011, 11:50 PM ^^ wala ko intention na awayon ka ha? :) pero may ara aspects nga ulihi ang bacolod, may ara man ulihi ang iloilo. :) yes, you're the busiest airport in our region in terms of passenger load. On the other hand, Bacolod Airport naman ang may pinaka dako nga Cargo Load sa region. you have lots of restaurants/coffee shops nga wala sa bacolod [Kenny Rogers, Cafe Laguna, etc.]. Bacolod naman, may ara man nga wala kamo [Mongkok, Gloria Jeans, etc.].
Yes, ang SM namun smaller kag jutay stores compared to SM Iloilo. But, we have dozens of Authorized Dealer sa Cyberzone na wala sa inyo [Acer, MSI, LG, Canon, HP, Samsung IT]. Ang Rob nyo, tanawa bala, kag i-compare di sa Robinsons Bacolod, damo stores nga wala sa inyo Rob [ Giordano, K-Swiss, Nike Park, Nike] kag ang bag-o nga Robinsons Central CityWalk.
We have, La Salle University, u have Ateneo. but paminsara sang maayo, La Salle in Bacolod is already a UNIVERSITY. ang ateneo da, gamay2 pa kaayo. huo, mayo kamo sa WVSU, SPUI, etc., pero may ara man kami TUP-V, UNO-R, etc.
and bisan ano hambalon mo amigo, BACOLOD IS STILL THE LARGEST HIGHLY URBANIZED CITY IN WESTERN VISAYAS BOTH IN POPULATION AND LAND AREA. kamo, Regional Center. teh cyempre, compare your selves to Cebu, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, etc...now, cnu ang left behind?? kami, PROVINCIAL CAPITAL LANG. but tanawa, sa tnan nga cities sa philippines nga provincial capital, BAcolod gru ang pinka budlay lagson...
again, amigo...i know, gin hambalan sang upod ko di sa SSC-BACOLOD na left behind ang Iloilo. but honestly, in some ways, ulihi man ang Bacolod...so hindi na ni naton pag ihaboy balik balik ang NONSENSE nga debate. ok?
:)
FYI, may Acer di kag Nike. Giordano pagid. Coming soon galing.
I agree with you. Maskin sa callcenter ulihi man kami.
You tell us to compare. And why should we do that? If you take a look at our thread, we discuss ideas, suggestions and palumpatanay ihi pa kung kamo pahambalon. Pero did you ever see us compare our city with other regional centers? No. Well sometimes when provoked,we do. We love our city the way it is, and we accept our shortcomings and instead of comparing and being bitter, we just move for progress. We do not compare. I think we are confident enough of what Iloilo can achieve. In other words, wala kami gaka insecure kun sino pa mas lamang or mas nubo samon. No offense but try to backread your thread, it may not be full of comparisons but its full of self proclaimed titles and negative side comments of Iloilo. Don't deny that.
Largest in population and land area. I can ask why despite the fact that Bacolod is larger and has more population, some of your businesses are somewhat of a smaller scale. SM, and Rob. On the other hand the same goes for example, Ayala, may Premiere kamo, kami Avida lang.
I know this has gone so long and it even expanded to areas nga wala dapat na dala pero my only point was with what that rick guy said. I know you guys know it yourselves that Iloilo cannot be considered as nothing.
Oh and lastly, to those people who label me as an uninvited guest,
you definitely do not own this thread, therefore i do NOT need your invitation. :)

Negros XI eyes 3rd win today in PFF U19 Reg’l Qualifiers
Friday, April 29, 2011
THE Negros Occidental Football Association-Negros Selection booters, after having a day-off yesterday, will be back on the playing field today to notch their third straight win as they face Negros Oriental Football Association (NORFA) in the ongoing Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Men’s National U19 Championship Visayas Regional Qualifiers at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
The Ruben Clavecillas-mentored squad will be relying on the services of keepers Rufino Hedraga (University of St. La Salle) and Beel Marc Ortega (Bacolod City), Talisay-Minuluan Football Club’s Joemar Ciocon, Jose Francis Rebacca, Collin Montaño, Steven Nico Taclobos, Zedric Ramirez, Jacob Lucente, Kevin Millan and Vhertude Javelona; Victorias City’s Marvic Gancita, Melecio Mentor and Allen Shane Belera; San Carlos City’s Rollie Tacugue, Diomar Caruscay and John Vendell Marcellana; and Bago City’s Kent Guevarra.
Also supporting the Negros squad is Talisay City Mayor and Talisay-Minuluan FC president Dr. Eric Saratan.
On the other hand, the May 20-29 scheduled PFF Men’s National U19 Championship earlier set at the Panaad football pitch was moved to San Carlos City because of the upcoming Philippine National Games calendared May 22-29 in Panaad. JSG

Linguine April 29th, 2011, 01:25 AM Kuna ako ang urban development officer sang Mandalagan (does that role even exist?) I would draw a map like this and simple man lang suggestions ko...this one is to take note of our perennial flooding problems and zone areas properly....and syempre anticipate areas of development kay basta may progress, upod na da ang paga dako sang population, garbage, traffic, etc.
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj75/abudominic/Mandalaganmapedited.png
Ang Mandalagan River Complex has many creeks nga naga usoy usoy thru subdivisions. and some of those creeks were maintained a long time ago as irrigation canals sang sugarcane fields pa lang ang mga subdivisions sa Mandalagan. But during pag develop, gin pang laksam ang mga canals nga ini and nag kitid ang mga suba kag sapa.
Catmon Creek
Luhod-Luhod Creek
Sulom Creek
all of them naga drain sa Mandalagan River. see that the sources of these creeks are already subdivisions? so mas damo ang surface run-off and ga dasig mag taas ang tubig sa mga kitid nga creeks. Better to reinforce the riverbanks with rip-raps.
And those bridges I suggested (Luhod Luhod and Lady Of Mercy area) para iwas aksidente.
Ang irrigation ditch dira from Magdaleneville thru Purok 13, Purok Sambag then thru the tangkungan sa Santol dapat himuon na lang isa ka open flood drain that will go to that small creek near Mountainview Phase 2 then out sa creek tupad Jollibee MANDALAGAN.That would serve as major drainage sang maagyan nga area.
Nice effort Doc, actually ara da sa villa georgina doc ang akon mother kag sister and her family naga istar pero mayo lang kay last na pagbaha wala sila malambot and sa ubos lang nayon, tani ang aton officials magiho na subong to mitigate sang kon ano naman ang matabo kon mag abot naman ang tig ululan....ask ko lang tani ang aton officials na mangin proactive and not only reactive, indi na kita maghulat sang dason na baha....

Yes, I was protecting my city but that was an entirely different statement that wasn't in any way connected to my first paragraph, hence the separation.
Yeah, I may have overreacted a bit but your post was just entirely degrading.
And besides, I can say the same thing, if your sugar plantations weren't present, if your electricity wasn't that stable, if your penchant for luxury wasn't a way of living, Bacolod will be nothing too. Same as Iloilo with its churches, its politics, its food and Ilonggos way of being marot. When you think about it, we REALLY do complement each other. Pala gasto kamo, pala save kami.
Please read your whole post and think about what you would do if I ever I said the same thing about your place, or the very house you are living in right now, your family or basically just your entire life. :)

(pasensya thats just a rough illustration with numbers approximated only
Haay....as somebody living in the barangay for a long time damu na ko da ya nakita gid nga problems sa Mandalagan. The barangay itself (one of the oldest settlements in Bacolod) sits on an area of river wetland and brackishwater swamps and low rolling hills cris-crossed with creeks, so its usually baha sa patag (Lacson St. area-Carvic-St.Annes) and high cresting flash floods at the upper hilly areas (Luhod-Luhod, Estanzia-Tongoy, San Lorenzo-Bulak-Lady of Mercy Hospital-Yanson). I think clearing these waterways by moving houses away from the riverbanks would be a good start.
^^
i have families in both islands, in cebu and mindanao..:) immigrants from cavite though..so, i linger on many threads i suppose?
That, i think, is common to a majority of us here. Because Negros is a conglomerate of Panay and Cebu and had migrations in Central and Western Mindanao, we have common ancestry and bloodline...so tani sa mga friends mo da who want to bash or say something inciting to an argument better post it at your thread. Nobody stops you from posting here...as said "nobody owns the thread" but...respetohanay lang kun gapangayaw. Because I myself doesn't post at your thread kun gusto lang ko mang gamo kag mag start sang argument. If you want to question or contest the statement of somebody here, i-PM lang anay sa forumer.
yep! ga agree gid ko...i think it's normal to compare our cities with others.. If di ta mag compare sa iban, how can we see our "SALA" and paano ta ni ma bag-o? diba?
i have friends and relatives there sa iloilo, but in their opinion, Bacolod is better than iloilo in terms of Infrastructures. in fact, they want to travel here to bacolod sang sa ako ma travel sa iloilo. they said na wala to ya lagawan sa iloilo. SM man lng to nami. ga reklamo sila gani nga daw wala na puslan ang flyover sa jalandoni. again amigo, OPINION lng ni sng friends ko ha... don't take this seriously... sorry gid.. but honestly, kung wala ko namian sa Iloilo City, namian man ko sa ILONGGO people living IN iloilo city.:) kay ka mga buot kag sweet sa ila..

the Tuscaloosa-Birmingham (Alabama) Tornado (might end up an EF4 or EF5) just killed more than 100 in their cities alone :ohno:
total death toll is 297 and rising....this might be the deadliest since the April 17, 1974 "Super Outbreak" (148 tornadoes in 18 hours) killing 330 people, decimating the town of Xenia, Ohio.
and it might mount damage more than the 1999 Oklahoma Tornado Outbreak with the Moore-Bridge Creek Tornado (Oklahoma)

Pangasinenses To Ink Sisterhood Pact with Bacolod
By Edith B. Colmo
Officials from San Carlos City, Pangasinan led by Mayor Julier Resuello will be the guests of honor of Bacolod City on May 6 on the proposed sisterhood arrangement of the two cities.
Reportedly, the Pangasi-nenses will also observe Bacolod’s best practices.
Mayor Resuello and his contingent comprising the department heads and barangay captains will embark on a comprehensive benchmarking program in highly successful and model cities in the south and observe best practices and notable projects of other local government units. Through this endeavor, they hope to expand their understanding on current LGU practices. San Carlos City officials will immerse on current trends of local governance and undertakings which are vital to the growth and progress of their city.
While in Bacolod they will interact with local city officials, Resuello said. They have chosen Bacolod because of its remarkable accomplishments and awards received, which they believe, are worth imitating, he also said.
Their trip to Bacolod is in line with the Capability Enhancement Program of their city.*

boy muscovado April 29th, 2011, 06:29 AM About the controversial North Terminal. As we all know thre will be two terminals there. the Bacolod North Public Transport Terminal by Chua et al and Ceres Liner North Terminal by Vallacar Transit.

^^you don't have to be sorry to him migz! they're never sorry for us in the first place, its understandable that it was based on the experience of your family in Lilo.
I have a lot of relatives too sa Lilo kapin pa dira sa Jaro...tsakto ka migz ang ila observation about the infrastructures. ok man lagawan Lilo may smallville which was patterned to Goldenfield's, tatoy's personally my favorite resto sa Lilo and syempre ang SM Lilo nga pati mga taga Negros excited mag tabok para lang mag shopping before but now times have changed we have our sprawling SM nami mag exercise, RPB nga according sa relative ko sa Lilo is far grander and better than the dilapidated RPI even gaisano bacolod mas may class pa dyutay kay sa gaisano grand nila, we have a lot of resorts within sa bacolod forest park, carribean, santa fe, palmas del mar etc. the original party complex goldenfields dala na dira ang mga manihan:lol: not to mention ang long drive along the tourism strip, these are all observations of my close relatives who lived their whole lives in Lilo.
haha ok! yep! mas namian di sila mag lagaw sa Rob ta...and nalingaw gid sila sa aton di nga traffic lights..hahaha similar to some Singapore Traffic Lights kuno..hahaha when i went to iloilo last month, i told them nga mabalik gid ko sa iloilo. hambal nila, "ano lagawan mo di?

Ari, halin kay Guv:
Marañon confident of Pacquiao victory
Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said he is confident that the May 8 (Phil. time) boxing spectacle in Las Vegas between Philippines’ boxing hero Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley will end in another victory for the Filipino champion.
Marañon said he is following reports on Pacquiao’s training and he has observed that the boxer-turned-politician from Sarangani has been preparing well for the bout.
He seems to be in a very good condition and ready to face his opponent, the governor said, as he urged all Negrenses to support and pray for Pacquiao in his fight against Mosley, stressing that “his success is also the success of the entire Filipino nation.”
Meanwhile, reports from the wires quoted Pacquiao as saying that he is very focused on his next fight, not for a knockout but in working hard to secure another win.
"If the knockout comes, it comes," Pacquiao said. "I'm very focused, not for knockout, but to work hard. We're preparing for 12 rounds. If I am looking for a knockout or underestimating my opponent, it could affect me."
Pacquiao, 52-3 with two drawn and 38 knockouts, will defend his World Boxing Organization welterweight title on May 8 against 39-year-old American Mosley, who is 46-6 with one drawn and 39 knockouts and has never been knocked out.
The 32-year-old southpaw Filipino champion, who has won his past 13 fights over six years, said one of his goals is to produce a more impressive victory over Mosley than Mayweather's unanimous decision last May.
Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's trainer, says every fight should end with a knockout and he would love "Pac-Man" to produce his first early stoppage since flattening Britain's Ricky Hatton two years ago, by dropping Mosley.*AFP

boy muscovado April 29th, 2011, 06:36 PM Ang problema lang migs if paano e paigo ang mga buses and jeepneys in the u/c North Terminal kay daw kagamay or cute gid ..:) Also somehow Vallacar Transit will come up with a bigger and better design Terminal that we can truly call "world class" as what the press described .. :)
Ang nakita nyo da migs nga gin put-up nga structures subong are for the North Public Transport Terminal by Chua et al...ang iya ka Vallacar transit bisan bulldozer wala pa da ka tandog sang ila duta.:ohno:
But ang rendering sang Vallacar that was presented before showed that it will be a multi-level bus terminal like the Victory Liner Terminal of Baguio. Haay, pero wala pa bisan pang hagbas hilamon :ohno:
tumpak !!! want to see what the City Legal Officer will do in this case ...what we want now are results....:ohno: madugay dugayan pa ni guro kay man si Mayor mapa Vegas naman...hehe daw ako nahuya ah ... :ohno::lol: just an opinion...

Did you notice, we here in SSC-Bacolod, though we may lurk in Lilo thread,we never post in your thread.

P14-M pirated CDs and VCDs confiscated in Bacolod
ILOILO CITY, April 29 (PNA) - Some P14.22 million worth of pirated video discs were confiscated in Thursday’s simultaneous raids in three malls in Bacolod City.
The raids were conducted following a letter received by the national Optical Media Board (OMB) Investigation and Operations Division from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Negros Occidental on the rampant selling of pirated compact discs (CDs) and video compact discs (VCDs).
The OMB, through its chairman Ronnie Rickets, immediately ordered an operation in coordination with the police authorities in Bacolod City, CIDG-Negros which led to the confiscation of 94,800 fake CDs and VCDs in three malls in Bacolod City.
The confiscated CDs and VCDs are now under the custody of CIDG. (PNA)

Officials expect big from PNG
THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) announced that the revival of the Philippine National Games on May 22 to 29 would be the biggest sporting event in the country for 2011.
POC President Jose Cojuangco stressed that the staging of 35 sports contests in the cities of Bacolod, Bago, Silay and Talisay promises to be the biggest gathering of elite athletes that includes members of national teams.
“We believe that this will be a major boost for Philippine sports,” said Cojuangco, who hopes to discover new talents through the sporting event.
Some 8,000 athletes and officials from all over the country are expected to see action in the weeklong competition, which will be coinciding with the 100 years celebration of Philippine Sports.
“We are encouraging elite athletes from the different regions to take this opportunity to test themselves against the country’s best athletes. There are no entry fees whatsoever to be charged to the athletes for the purpose of increasing the number of participation,” said PSC commis- sioner Jose Luis Gomez.

Long ago when I was newbie pa with apple products, nag bisyo ipod touch ko, and indi ko balo mag restore, so nag kadto ko da thinking na maka help sila, and to my dismay, they told me na i-restore nila with a fee of P300! and not being sure pa if ma kay-o. Then hambal nila if indi kaya kuno ipadala nila sa Cebu and it would cost me P2,500 for shipping and would wait 2-3weeks!
It was my first apple product and gin highblood gid ko sang pagkabalo ko na amo nada sila. Then a friend told me to go to Datalink (sa old BIR office nayon), and didto nag help ang owner da to restore and check kun ano ang issue, after several tries wala gid na repair, okay lang kay wala bayad, nag offer nalang siya na ipadala nila sa Manila, and it would only cost me P600 (for shipping back and forth nana), coz under warranty paman fair enough naman dbla?
Amo na gina sumpa ko nada ang iStore sa SM... I know reseller lang na sila pero ga take advantage lang sila sa mga tao na indi techie.. they assume na mga rich ang mga tao na may apple products so gina gapasuber lang.... I wont ever gid buy products from that store..
Kun sino man nakakilala sa tag-iya da sorry lang gid pero amo nada pag lantaw ko sa iStore ta sa SM.
Linguine April 30th, 2011, 05:43 AM On an island
By Mimi Olarga
Saturday, April 30, 2011
AN ISLAND always connotes remoteness, isolation, distance. The word might even suggest lack of electrical power, which redounds to absence of cold refreshing drinks, air conditioning units, mobile and laptop batteries wearing out.
So the question, “Why there in the island?” could be one of the questions a typical urbanite would ask if he or she is presented with the matter. But for those who love adventure and travel, Sipaway would always mean thrill, exploration, discovery, and conquest.
As what I always say, the travel makes the sojourner leaves the hustle and bustle of the city life and cares and worries of the work behind. Moreover, if the traveler needs to do a lot of re-thinking, to be able to plan what he needs to pursue for the year and next, then he needs a quaint and quiet place to do this. That’s why our group ventured to Sipaway before the Holy week started to have both.
Traversing the trans-link highway of Don Salvador to San Carlos City was not quite a long travel because of the comfy ride in the air-con bus plying the route. Upon reaching San Carlos, the group took a “trisikad” ride to the city wharf. After haggling for the best reasonable price, the group took a boat ride to Barangay Ermita in Sipaway Island.
With the scorching heat of the mid-day sun, the 10-15 minute pump boat ride was not really that snug. Yet, the clear, blue sea water surrounding the island of Refugio, another name for Sipaway Island, is but a soothing balm to the heat of the sun. And this natural element is the main come-on why a visit to Sipaway is a must.
The pump boat docked in the Ermita wharf. Unlike other rural ports, Brgy. Ermita’s port was constructed well, made to last long and strong against the waves, and the storm. The group walked through the concreted water breaker.
At La Basilia Beach Resort in Barangay Ermita was where the group billeted. Cost –cutting and wise budgeting are the main reasons why the group did not choose the plush accommodation of the other popular resorts in the island. Even with its laid-back ambiance, the place offered the group a comfortable place to stay. So after negotiating with the locals to cook the food and sell us our needed water (which is ‘imported’ from the main land), the group nestled in the place.
Having been oriented that electricity is provided only from 5 in the afternoon to 11 in the evening, the group proceeded to go early with the plans: explore, conquer and work.
With explore, the group found out the island is but seven kilometers from tip to tip, can be travelled by means of a “habal-habal” (a motorcycle without a side car, ridden with another passenger), or can be circumnavigated with a hired boat, has plenty of coconut trees, has concrete wharf or a “pantalan” which was designed not only for boats but also conducive for bathing and bathers, alike, dotted with clean, white sand, and surrounded with clean, clear blue waters, abundant in coral reefs, starfishes, mangroves.
And sunset in the shoreline of Sipaway is one of the most beautiful, nostalgic and romantic moments to experience in Sipaway.
And what better way to conquer the daylight and the inviting clear waters, notwithstanding the flushed skin and the weary limbs, but to dip in Sipaway’s water? And with all the cares and worries left behind, you can be yourself and frolic in the alluring, soothing waters of Sipaway or walk your way through the white sand beach, to ponder on things, plot out your plans and cry “eureka” for a new spurt of bright ideas. Such, is the conquest the group is looking for.
And meantime, as power commences its lighting influence on the darkness of the night, then the members of the group can do the work they are supposed to do. Such were what we did. And, thank God, we achieved both reasons why we went to the place.
So, are ready to temporarily leave your city ‘sandals’ behind and explore the different elements of Sipaway?

MANILA, Philippines—In Bacolod City, a live telecast of John Paul II’s beatification will be shown Sunday afternoon at the tower built in his honor at the Bacolod reclamation area, according to Fr. Felix Pasquin, rector of San Sebastian Cathedral.
Pasquin said SkyCable will provide a live telecast of the beatification rites from John Paul II Tower in Bacolod.
The 7-story tower stands in the exact spot where Pope John Paul II spoke to thousands of Negrenses during his visit to Bacolod City on Feb. 20, 1981.
One of the biggest triumphs of late Bishop Antonio Fortich was to get Pope John Paul II to make a side trip to Negros during his visit to the Philippines in 1981.
The Pope delivered one of his most powerful messages on behalf of the poor in Bacolod, Fortich had said at the time.

^^mag amo na sila, I won't be surprise if they close, importante gid ang honest customer service. sala nga strategy kung amo na pisyo nila, hopefully the owner will correct its business practices.

Yeah, to be fair with Bacolod, your Robinsons looks better (for me) because it's very simple...
But i am not really sure about the pirated CD stalls in iloilo, maybe i need to see it with my own eyes...
Like do we need to compare (even malls)? I guess the other city have something to show as well... You may list down ALL the shops in all Bacolod malls and compare it against them... for fun. :-)
Anyways, congratulations for being part of the iPad2 launch. Enjoy the little things. :-)
P.S. jayjay, IMO your comments are quite difficult to read. :-)

POC, PSC mull 16 sports for 2013 Asiad Centennial

Manila, Philippines - Filipino sports officials are looking at an initial list of 16 sports that will make up the calendar of the Asian Games Centennial celebrations that the country will be hosting in 2013 even as they proposed to spread out the action to several provinces.
Philippine Olympic Committee (POC)president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. said the committee formed to tackle the hosting will recommend aquatics, athletics, tennis, golf (with junior golf), basketball, taekwondo, badminton, boxing, wushu, dancesport, triathlon, beach volleyball, football, billiards and figure skating as the Games’ featured sports.
“What we’re looking at here are sports where maging contenders man lang tayo. Mahirap yung mag-host tayo tapos wala namang makikitang Pilipino na lumalaban (We’re looking at sports where we have a realistic shot at the medals),” Cojuangco said during Thursday’s POC-PSC Radio Forum.
The initial roster, offered Philippine Sports Commission chairman Richie Garcia, also represents sports played in the Olympic Council of Asia’s various tournaments like the Asian Games, the Asian Winter Games, Asian Beach Games, Asian Martial Arts Games, Asian Indoor Games, and Asian Youth Games.
The OCA last week awarded the 100th year celebration’s hosting rights to the Philippines, which also played host to the very first multi-nation athletic competition in Asia, the Oriental Olympics in 1913.
Garcia said they’re also considering giving provinces outside Metro Manila a piece of the action in the festivities, which will be attended by 45 member nations and also feature cultural shows.
“We’ll propose to OCA if we can spread out the games para makasama naman yung mga kababayan natin sa probinsya and not just hold it in one place (We’ll propose to spread out the events to the provinces to let them join the festivities),” said Garcia.
The OCA has promised to shoulder 30 percent of the financial requirement and pass on its sponsors to the POC to help defray the cost. The Philippine government and the private sector will cover the rest.
“Definitely, the government will play an important role in this hosting. But we have to clarify first how much the OCA will chip in and how much the government will give before we talk to the Office of the President and concerned departments,” Garcia said.
