Bacolod to host Asia Pacific Tchoukball tourney

http://thedailyguardian.com/images/stories/tchoukbal.png

BACOLOD CITY – The 5th Asia Pacific Tchoukball Championship games will be staged here August 1 to 5, 2012, according Gary Visitacion, president of Philippine Tchoukball Federation.

Visitacion said he met Mayor Evelio Leonardia to discuss initial preparations for the hosting of next year’s tournament.

About 600 to 700 players and coaches from 16 countries are expected to join the competition.

Participating countries are led by defending champion Chinese Taipei, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Hong Kong, China, Laos, Japan, South Korea, Pakistan, India, UAE, Brunei Darussalam, Myanmar and the Philippines.

Considered as a new sport in the country, tchoukball was invented in 1960 by Dr Hermann Brandt, a Swiss sports scientist.

Tchoukball is played an indoor measuring 27 meters by 16 meters. At each end there is a “frame” (a device similar to a trampoline off which the ball bounces) which measures one square meter and a semicircular D-shaped forbidden zone measuring three meters in radius.

Each team comprised of 12 players (of which seven may be on the court at any one time) can score on both ends on the field. In order to score a point, the ball must be thrown by an attacking player, hit the frame and bounce outside the 'D' without being caught by the defending team.

Physical contact is prohibited, and defenders may not attempt to intercept the attacking team's passes. Players may take three steps with the ball, hold the ball for a maximum of three seconds, and teams may not pass the ball more than three times before shooting at the frame.

During a dinner-meeting hosted by Dr. Ver Lacson, Leonardia expressed his interest in the competition and cited its economic returns to the city.

He acknowledged the possibility of potential business investments from officials and businessmen from other countries who will arrive here during the sports event.

The Philippine Tchoukball Federation is sanctioned by the Federacion Internationale De Tchoukball (FITB)

Atty. JoBS on the go for Negros. Facebook update from Atty. JoBS...

‎...Philippine airport officer asked what's inside my heavy bag? 30 pieces of "Experience Excellence. Experience Philippines" Official investors kits of the Philippine delegation to the 22nd CommunicAsia International ICT Conference in Singapore tomorrow...he smiled and thanked me. Things one must go through for love of the Philippines....

Reply to a comment:
...actually we divided the kits among the other delegates so that the load will not be that heavy. For this trip, my goal is more high-value ICT jobs, even manufacturing since we are positioning Negros to be a primary reliever point for the Cebu industrial zones. Our 10K jobs has been achieved in the voice-based industry - remember my goal of 10K by 2010? Now it's time for the ICT content... :)

Imagine, we are going to be the Primary, as in Primary, reliever point of Cebu Industrial Zones and that accounts to a big overflow of investment that will serve Negros Occidental. Tens and hundreds of companies are being rejected at Cebu because they already lack space but we have much in Negros and our towns and cities are prepared enough to serve them.

Coming from the airport, the street names named after Philippine Cities ang before sa North Drive where ABS-CBN, Globe Telecom, Rolling Hills Chapels and Bascon Cafe are. Meanwhile, the streets names with numbers are the ones after North Drive from the Gasoline station all the way to SSS where Cafe Bobs, Bar 21, Sorrento, L'Fisher and basically every nice establishments are.

I'm happy that the Pulupandan LGU and the province acted positively to promote the preservation of the Irrawaddy Dolphin....its a rare dolphin and kanami if mag sikat ang aton province as one of the areas where the dolphin is protected and would help in the rebound of species number.

If I could remember, the traffic flow in the North Public Terminal will follow this way:

from North, right turn inside the terminal to unload and then load passengers.
The vehicle will then leave North Terminal back to Lacson then would take the U-turn slot beneath the flyover using the inner lane of the Southbound Lacson then out to the Northbound lane of Lacson

Ang isa pa gid ka problema da nakita ko Doc ang passengers from the north that want to go to the city proper, malakat gid sila tabuk sa circumferential/banago road kag magbantay naman jeepney sa unhan pa gid sang flyover, medyo layu na lalakton kag kainit pa, kag mabasa ka naman kon nagainulan, same man sa Ceres terminal, from terminal lakat ka sa bangga pepsi para makasakay jeepney naman......ambot kon may nagapa utok man sine na mga problema, basi bala kon ara na ga operate ang terminals kag flyover amo pa lang sila magpalak.....dapat subong pa lang may ara na sila mga planos na mga covered walkways along the sidewalk on both sides of the highway.....suggestion lang ni para sa aton mga opisyales ah....:)

VBA at the ‘Ruins’ this November

Gil Alfredo B. Severino

Negros Bloggers will host this year’s Visayas Blog Awards (VBA) this coming November 12, 2011 at the "Ruins" in Talisay City showcasing the Visayans’ "vibrant mix of persuasions and personalities".

Short for the word "Weblog", a blog is an online journal of all ideas which could include texts, videos, photos, music, and all kinds of entries which an internet is capable and those who are into blogging are called "bloggers".

Here in Negros Occidental, the "Negros Bloggers" was organized two years ago and is now ready to host such a momentous event that would signal its active involvement in the world’s borderless "virtual network" community.

To be held in Talisay at the 19th century "Ruins" of a mansion built by Don Mariano Lacson and his wife Maria Braga, the first of its kind awarding event, the VBA will beam this great Negros Occidental architectural feat to the blogging community from Luzon down to Mindanao and to the unimaginable number of bloggers all over the world.

Likewise, the VBA will bring out all sorts of blogsites and niches created by the Visayan blogging community showcasing hundreds and hundreds of indigenous topics developed by each blogger.

A preliminary seminar on relevant topics, meanwhile, will be held this September 3, 2011 in preparation for the forthcoming VBA Night in November.

Details will be posted regularly at the Negros Bloggers site, visit www.negrosbloggers.com.* (GABSeverino)

IN EB MAGALONA
Techno park aim: 15,000 more jobs
BY CARLA GOMEZ

A group of investors are setting up the Tanza Techno Park at Barangay Santo Niño, EB Magalona, that will serve as an industrial zone for export locators who are expected to create about 15,000 jobs in the area, businessman Andrew Regalado said yesterday.

Regalado, who is the project coordinator, along with Porferio Montesclaros, director of the Mactan Export Processing Zone Chamber of Exporters and Manufacturers, and Teddy Segura, president and chief executive officer of Nexus Philippines, this week met with Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and EB Magalona Mayor David Lacson to discuss their venture.

The techno park will be established initially on 25 of about 142 hectares owned by the Maravilla family, he said.

Of the 142 hectares, 71 hectares are targeted to be used for solar farms, and the remaining 71 for the techno park, he explained.

About P250 million will be invested for the building of wide roads, a fire department, 24/7 Philippine Economic Zone Authority and Customs office, other amenities, and for the water supply needs of an initial 25 hectares, Regalado added.

It will be an industrial zone for export locators who use green technology in the production of pharmaceuticals, semi conductors, computer electronics and other products, he said.

They have applied for the conversion of the site where the techno park will be located from agricultural to industrial use with the local government of EB Magalona, Regalado said.

“We chose EB Magalaona as the site of the techno park because its mayor welcomes the setting up of industries in his town, especially those that use green technology, and the governor is very dynamic,” he said.

“Mayor Lacson and Gov. Maranon are also very supportive of our venture because of the jobs it will create,” Regalado said.

He said they also chose EB Magalona because it is 12 kilometers from the Bacolod-Silay Airport, about 23 kilometers from the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (BREDCO) Port, has adequate water supply, good roads and the techno park can access electricity directly from Panay Energy Development Corp. via submarine cable.

EB Magalona is also near golf courses, and Bacolod City that has been ranked as number three among the emerging cities in the Philippines with competitive advantage, he added.

Negros Occidental also has very good human resources and the techno park is located near the Technological University of the Philippines in Talisay City that produces among the top engineers in the country, Regalado said.

Among the investors in the techno park, aside from Filipinos, will be Koreans, Japanese and Chinese, he said.

Meanwhile, Regalado said the Bacolod Silay Airport needs to be extended by another 500 meters to allow for the landing of big cargo jets.

He noted that the Mactan International Airport now enjoys 175 flights a day, which are more than Manila, and that Cebu now has 13 agricultural and industrial export processing zones.*CPG

Bacolod endorses Paglaum sports complex as IT park

By Carla N. Canet

Saturday, June 18, 2011

THE Bacolod City Council passed a resolution endorsing the application of Negros Occidental province with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) for the declaration of the Paglaum Sports Complex as an Information Technology Park.

The Provincial Government headed by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. intends to convert the Paglaum Sports Complex into an Information Technology Park to be known as the “Negros First Cyber Park.”

The Paglaum Sports Complex is a property consisting of 12,675 square meters located at Barangay 38.

The resolution was moved by Councilor Caesar Distrito, chairman of the Committee on Laws, Ordinances and Good Government.

Distrito’s committee and the Committee on Communications and Energy conducted a joint committee hearing last June 3 to clarify certain issues regarding the said application.

“The endorsement of the Sangguniang Panlungsod where the project will be located is a very important requirement of the Peza accreditation,” Distrito pointed out.

“This project of the province will surely provide thousands of jobs for the Province of Negros Occidental and Bacolod City as well,” he added.

He also mentioned that the proposed Cyberpark will add to the improving IT industry in the Province of Negros, particularly in Bacolod.

CEB acquires 45% of Bacolod and Iloilo market share in Q1

Slashes Bacolod, Iloilo, Malaysia, Vietnam and Taipei fares as low as P488

The Philippines’ largest national flag carrier, Cebu Pacific (PSE:CEB) gained 45% market share to and from Bacolod and Iloilo in the 1st quarter of 2011.

Because of this, CEB announced a seat sale to Bacolod and Iloilo, as well as Malaysia, Vietnam and Taipei from June 7 to 10, 2011 or until seats last, for travel from July 1 to August 31, 2011

CEB offers P488 seats from Cebu to Iloilo and Bacolod, and P588 seats from Manila to Iloilo and Bacolod. The airline also offers P888 seats from Davao to Iloilo.

It flies to Bacolod six times daily from Manila, and twice daily from Cebu. CEB also flies to Iloilo 47 times weekly from Manila, thrice daily from Cebu, daily from Davao.

Meanwhile, passengers can buy P1,288 seats from Manila to Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia), Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam) and Taipei.

Guests can avail of their Prepaid Baggage Allowances upon booking, for travel savings as much as 63% on domestic flights compared to buying baggage allowance at the airport.

“A significant number of our passengers from Iloilo and Bacolod fly to Manila and catch connecting flights to international destinations. We are glad to offer this seat sale to give more passengers lower fares for their local and international business and leisure travels,” said CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

“We hope more guests can take advantage of the airline’s extensive route network and trademark low fares, and book in advance,” she added.

Guests who don’t have credit cards may also book online and conveniently pay through CEB partner banks and payment centers. Upon booking online, travelers can also select seats in advance and avail of CEB’s web check-in service for a faster check-in process.

^^according to atty JOBS @doc...bacolod is positioning to be the PRIMARY RELIEVER POINT for cebu industrial zones. well, whateer that is all i know is its for the good of negros occ. PERIOD. hehe

I actually coined the term and Atty. JoBS told me it nailed the point. She told me it would be a used in her presentations hand in hand with MEPZA. Instead of establishing a competing Economic Zone, we work hand in hand with Mactan Export Processing Zone in the placement of investments. MEPZ is filled to the brim, it can only take in a handful of companies. Since companies stream by the hundreds so only one or two or three or five companies can only be allowed to use their areas, others would have to be rejected but rejecting them would be bad image for the country so they will be diverted to the closest economic zone from MEPZ.

Where is Negros again? Right beside Cebu itself! It means we are in strategic location. What primary reliever point means... MEPZ will help facilitate the flow of investments to these economic zones and export processing zones in Negros of those companies who cannot be entertained in there (MEPZ). We will be the primary alternate to Cebu EPZ's that are all full. That means that our economic zones and export processing zones will have to be filled up to the brim as well before EPZ and economic zones of other provinces and islands will have their turn of being reliever points. It means by being this, we are a step higher in economic investment than the rest of the provinces and islands of Visayas and in some sense, Northern Mindanao.

We have to be honest that we cannot compete with Cebu but we can work with them to mutual advantage. Our towns and cities are putting up economic zones and certainly with the demand that is overflowing in Cebu, they will soon be filled up thanks to the negotiating power of our dear Atty. JoBS.

It has been a forecasted scenario in the late 1990's that Negros would benefit from spillovers from Cebu since its halfway distance from Cebu (not so near but not so far).

Interesting article from SUNSTAR BACOLOD
I just included my photos para makarelate ang tanan based sa article sang writer:)

Free in the City III: The Capitol Lagoon Park
By Betsy Gazo

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/58330_146139815422423_131339263569145_193928_3622515_n.jpg

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/162844_170432049659866_131339263569145_301596_2511841_n.jpg

ANYONE with a pair of legs, a pair of sneakers and clothes comfortable enough to move around vigorously need not dig deep into his pocket for a gym membership. The 2.3-hectare patch of green that we call the Capitol Lagoon is just there for the picking. Or walking. Or running. Or just strolling while HH (holding hands). In fact, anything. And the best thing is that this famous Bacolod landmark is free and open to the public 24/7.

It has the perfect location and actually is the area where distance from the city to anywhere else in the province is measured against. Along Lacson Street just in front of National Artist Eduardo Castrillo's Paghimud-os sculpture is the zero-kilometer marker.

Joggers, walkers and runners can join the other fitness-conscious people who frequent the Capitol Lagoon Park. Exercise has never been more fun and picturesque.

The park has this huge expanse of water teeming with tilapia that visitors can feed. Feed the fish by calling the popcorn man for ready packed bags of buttered popcorn. The fish are not exactly finicky about what they eat. They are known to thrive on biscuits, bread and even hamburger.

If jogging got you panting, rest awhile under the shade of the trees or even in the shadows of the proud figures of water buffaloes at either end of the lagoon. Choose your sex. I mean, one carabao is male accompanied by the imposing figure of a nude male that doesn't seem to mind the weather - rainy or sunny. The other is female led by a female figure in Filipina dress.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/62330_149108898458848_131339263569145_207769_3173655_n.jpg

The man and his carabao symbolize labor while the female and her carabao represent trade and commerce. The beauties were lovingly done by Italian sculptor Riccardo Monti who also did some figures at the Metropolitan Theater and the UP Iloilo campus.

It was considered quite a feat then in those times to create such a formidable work of art and people thought that there was no Pinoy who could recreate such...until UP Fine Arts graduate Felix Garzon of Murcia came up with his male version.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/47619_170432206326517_131339263569145_301597_2161633_n.jpg

Art-gazing doesn't stop here. Just across that lovely and graceful slope to the west of the park the Old Capitol Building perches. It is executed in what is known in Architectural circles as Roman Neo-Classic. It was built in 1927 and finished in 1933 following the design done by Daniel Burnham and executed by Juan Arellano. Burnham loved water and incorporated this element into his works. Baguio City people will agree.

The idea to put up a capitol building was from Governor Jose Locsin. From a budget of P30,000 (later ballooning to P244,000 with the addition of the North and South wings), this E-shaped edifice withstood war and time. The Japanese officers occupied it in 1942 and surrendered there, too.

If you want more history but of the symbolical kind, enter the Philippine National Bank to the park's north and study the history of the sugar industry carved out so painstakingly in panels of dark wood that surround the waiting area. Every line, wave, undulation, groove and curve will strike you with awe at the copious talent in wood carving God had bestowed on the artist. No, you wouldn't look foolish at all standing in the middle of the bank lobby as you trace with your eyes from left, middle to right the development of a crop that made the province unimaginably rich.

Art is better appreciated on a full stomach, so, cross Lacson for any of the fast food joints after expending all that energy. After a filling meal, why not spare P20 to explore the nearby NFEFI, if you hadn't still seen that piece of sanctuary for Negros endemic animals.

For a price less than a cup of coffee, you can support this important area where the vets and hard-working and underpaid staff fight alongside the animals for these creatures' survival and multiplication. The tariktik hornbills, the warty hogs, the bleeding heart pigeons, grass owls and spotted deer will appreciate and thank you very much.

good news for coffee producers and coffee lovers...:)

Local coffee industry
gets renewed thrust

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist in Negros Occidental turned over 20,000 robusta coffee seedlings to three local government units and to the OPA-Integrated Correctional and Agricultural Technology yesterday.

Marjo Balinas, provincial coffee coordinator said the Negros First Coffee program of Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. aims to rehabilitate the coffee plantations in the province.

Since 1980s, more coffee plantations were converted to sugarcane farms, but the province is restoring coffee production since the coffee produced in the province is “flavorsome” compared to that of other provinces, Balinas said.

The LGUs of Murcia, Don Salvador Benedicto, and La Castellana and ICAT will receive 5,000 seedlings each. He said the beneficiaries of the program were farmers they trained last year and these serve as their initial planting materials.

Bobby Java, acting agriculture program coordinating officer of the Department of Agriculture-VI, said the planting ratio of coffee is 1,000 seedlings to one hectare.

He said it will take three to four years to grow the coffee before the farmers can harvest, to produce and process it.

Meanwhile, vegetable grower and one of the beneficiaries, Casimiro Estrellanes, said it will be the first time they will grow robusta coffee but he is hopeful that it will grow well.

He also said the seedlings came from Batangas and are said to be of good quality.*LTG

good news for coffee producers and coffee lovers...:)

JoBS.

^^afterall, we're not the "city that steals your job" we're here to complement you. honestly, it doesn't sound right to me. but, its not important. as i've said, for as long as its for the common good, its a go for me.:)

I think south of Bacolod doesn't need much of new zones yet because the current areas of investment are still under utilized.

St.Francis Center
Gaisano City
Robinson's Cybergate Center
Transcom City-Lopues South Square

kulang lang gid marketing and launching strategies.

Yes, if the old Bacolod Airport would be declared a industrial/commercial/IT zone it would be a big jumpstart for a boom in the south, just like what happened to Mandalagan when Robinsons was built

As to Pahanocoy and Sum-ag, I suggest the following that would spur development.

1. creation of a fishing and mini-commercial port at the Sum-ag River area'
2. Sum-ag River Mangrove Swamps, bird watching and fishing
3. a commercial center like SM or Robinson's to open and spur economic activity
4. promotion of seafood production and marine sports like sailing, skimboarding along Punta Taytay

Interesting article from SUNSTAR BACOLOD

New provincial jail now under BJMP (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/bacolod/local-news/2011/06/22/new-provincial-jail-now-under-bjmp-162556)
By Teresa Ellera-Dulla

NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. turned over Tuesday the P100-million worth new Negros Occidental Provincial Jail to Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Chief Rosendo Dial.

The new correctional facility at Barangay Tabunan, Bago City is now named New Negros Occidental District Jail.

Dial said the transfer of 411 inmates from the old provincial jail to the new facility will be on July 15.

Under the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between Capitol and BJMP, the Provincial Government will still provide for the expenses of the jail during the two-year transition period.

Among the expenses, which Capitol will continue to shoulder, are jail maintenance, food allowance of the inmates and the salaries of 30 jail guards who will augment the 30 jail personnel of the BJMP to be assigned at the new jail.

Capitol allocates yearly a total of about P30 million for the jail operation.

The transfer of the jail was a brainchild of the late governor Joseph Marañon, elder brother of the incumbent governor. It was pursued by former governor Isidro Zayco and was completed this year.

According to Marañon, the old jail is already congested and it is inhuman to let the poor inmates stay there.

He said that the new jail facility cost the Provincial Government more than P100 million to give the inmates a decent place where they could reform themselves.

Provincial Jail Warden Dionisio Silva added that the Old Provincial Jail was built in 1890 under then governor Don Fernando Gonzaga. It was used during the American and Japanese occupation in the country as confirmatory for the guerillas.

On the other hand, Dial said that since the new facility is so spacious and convenient for the inmates, “cobols” are no longer needed inside the jail. He also stressed that there will be no special treatment of prisoners inside the jail.

During their transfer to the new jail, inmates will be classified based on the gravity of the offenses they have committed, added Dial.

The provincial jail accommodates accused persons whose cases are still on trial, suspected criminals who are waiting for sentences and those who are already sentenced to one day to three years imprisonment, Dial said.

Dial considers the new jail as one of the most beautiful and modern jails throughout the country. It has six conjugal rooms for the inmates’ time to be with their spouses who might visit them in the jail.
Of the 411 inmates, 10 are females, according to Silva.

Downgrading of Dole-Bacolod hit (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/bacolod/local-news/2011/06/22/downgrading-dole-bacolod-hit-162555)
By Butch Bacaoco
Wednesday, June 22, 2011

ORGANIZED labor organizations and sugar producers federations joined hands in scoring the downgrading of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)’s Bacolod Office from a Dole District Office to a mere provincial office without any consultation from stakeholders.

“We have now so many cases pending and unresolved by the Negros Occidental Provincial Office, due to the slackness/apathy of the Dole Regional Office in Iloilo,” the group lamented in its petition sent to Dole Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz Tuesday.

Dole Bacolod District Office was established during the time of former President Ferdinand Marcos to attend to the myriad of cases in the province’s sugar industry. With its recent downgrading, it has become less responsive to its stakeholders’ needs.

“Before it was downgraded, the parties to a labor dispute can settle and attend to their case here in Bacolod. Now, they have to go all the way to Iloilo where the cases have to be processed,” explained Marcelo M. Villones, Jr., CAILO national president, one of the signatories.

Other signatories included NFSP president Enrique D. Rojas, CONFED-Negros Panay head Raymund Montinola, NACUSIP’s Hernane Braza, WUAP president Arturo Ronquillo, DALO chair Alan Gozon, ALARM head Jovito Berdin and other labor leaders.

“The workers find it difficult to work on their claims, such as maternity and death claims and other benefits under RA 6982 or the Social Amelioration Act, because they now have to transact with the Dole Regional Office in Iloilo where the region’s Accounting Office is centralized,” he added.

The petitioners stated that, under the present scenario, the resolution of cases could be held pending for over a year or two because there is nobody in Dole Bacolod Office to resolve such cases.

“We ask that the Bacolod District Office should be reinstated as a District Office or upgraded to a Regional Office,” the group demanded.

Boycott of Coke products kicks off today (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/bacolod/local-news/2011/06/22/boycott-coke-products-kicks-today-162559)
By Teresa Ellera-Dulla
Wednesday, June 22, 2011

DESPITE its meeting with Sugar Regulatory Administrator Gina Bautista Martin, Sugar Watch on Wednesday will push through with its rally, which will launch the boycott of Coca-Cola products.

Sugar Watch Hernane Braza, secretary general of the National Congress of Unions in the Sugar Industry of the Philippines (NACUSIP), which is affiliated with the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), said they are expecting participants from all over the province.

They also hope to get the support of the church for their call.

They will also conduct information campaign and solicit support for the boycott from restaurants, schools and universities.

Sugar Watch convenors declared that they will continue with their boycott campaign until Coke buys locally produced sugar.

According to Braza, their group is open to negotiate with Coke, if the company wishes to.

During the dialog with Martin Tuesday, Braza said they took up four major points which can help the sugar workers and the sugar industry as well.

Sugar Watch wants Coke to buy more domestically produced sugar to end their calls for a boycott and for the sugar industry in the country to survive.

Braza said that they are also proposing for SRA and the Bureau of Customs to charge the required tariffs on premixes imported by the multinational companies and, once the government collects those tariff obligations which is 38 percent of the value of those imported premixes, the workers will also be given their share.

They also asked SRA to stop Coke from importing High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), which they claimed to be hazardous to human health.

Sugar Watch also urged Martin that they will have a labor representative in the Sugar Board.

Meanwhile, Martin said that she explained the technical issues of premix to labor and sugar workers representatives during the dialog.

"I explained that premixes remained as "C" or reserve sugar and we are now waiting for the decision of the Bureau of Customs on the matter," she said.

She added that she will facilitate the requests of the Sugar Watch and she will also submit their written requests to Coca-Cola.

"I’m with the government. As SRA, I have to be on top of everybody and industrial users are also under my concern. I have also to protect the investors here in our country. What I’m trying to do is to facilitate that there will be a solution to these, hopefully as soon as possible for the good of the sugar industry," Martin expounded when asked about her stand on the calls to boycott Coke products.

When asked for comment about the support of the sugar federations on the call for a boycott, Bautista replied, "I respect the decision of the producers and the private sector on the importation of the premixes. The best I could do is to facilitate and present to Coke their demands. Coke will hopefully respond amicably and accordingly," she concluded.

Confed

Meanwhile, thousands of stakeholders under the Confederation of Sugar Producers Association (Confed) Negros-Panay chapter will also converge and protest before the bottling plant of Coca Cola Bottlers Inc. in Mansilingan Wednesday.

The rally is expected to be held early in the morning. The other major planters federations and organizations also signified to join to the protest action.

Confed officials said they have informed all of their members who vowed to support the cause started by Sugar Watch. They have pledged to haul in most of their industry’s stakeholders to show the beverage company that “they could not easily get away with this.”

Their protest action is the first of a series of protest actions Confed will stage nationwide, adding that there will be a “simultaneous rally” among member-organizations in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao on June 28.

Confed will continue to support the call to boycott Coca Cola products and will launch a massive campaign among restaurant owners in Bacolod and Negros Occidental to stop serving Coke products until “they rectify their act by paying the appropriate tariff.”

Police apprehend 5 for smoking in PUVs (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2011/June/22/topstory9.htm)
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Three jeepney drivers and two passengers were apprehended at the Bacolod City downtown area yesterday for violating City Ordinance No. 84, series of 1993 that prohibits smoking in public utility vehicles.

TMU head, Chief Insp. Luisito Acebuche said the three drivers were caught by the Bacolod City police traffic management unit and the City’s Traffic Authority for smoking while plying their routes and were asked to pay P100 in fines.

He said two passengers as well as the drivers of the jeepneys were also arrested and asked to pay P50 each as penalties.

The TMU and BTAO are set to place streamers in various areas in Bacolod reminding the people about the full implementation of the “anti-smoking” ordinance, Acebuche said.

He added that operators of public transport have also agreed to put “no smoking” signs and stickers in their vehicles to show their support to the endeavor of the BTAO and TMU.

Acebuche stressed that “Drivers should always remind their passengers not to smoke and if they will not listen, they should tell them to alight, and transfer to other jeepneys.”

Aside from the full implementation of the “no smoking” ordinance, the TMU and BTAO is also set to launch its drive against drunk drivers and passengers.*APN

Dugang ko lang da Doc ang pagpatukod sang isa ka "Integrated
South Bus and Jeepney Terminal" for the southbound buses and jeepneys which would include commercial spaces and would operate 24/7.....indi na dapat maliwat ang natabo sa north terminal na anomaly na duha ang terminal kag sa opposite sides pa of the highway....:ohno::ohno:...:bash:

Wala abi mayo naghit ang Sta. Lucia nga subdivision. It should be the Ayala Northpoint version.Ang mga bakante pa lot sa tubang puro commercial lot pa ang mga ini.
I really like your idea @Boy.It would be nice if these can be put into realization.SM Savemore somewhere in Pahanocoy or Sum-ag could possible a great help.Sa Pahanocoy damo bakante nga lot or basi pwede makipag deal ang SM sa atubang Sta Lucia.Ma try gid ko ni sang sandwiches nila ah....ma try ko local cheese kun namit man....

4. promotion of seafood production and marine sports like sailing, skimboarding along Punta Taytay

ok man ang Manville ah..security wise medyo strict sila..sa my first phase nila dalagko gid na da ang mga balay..tawhay kag hipid sa sulod.

@migo churvalulu..i remember sa una na nagka HH pa gani about sa vast vacant lot infront of Villa Lourdes na butangan na da kunu lopues store..pero ambot ngaa wala nadayun..daw nadula pa gid na da ang pag asenso sang south area sang nagsara ang Jazz cola plant kag ang cement plant sa may boundary sang Punta taytay and Sum-ag dampi and the only remaining movement there is ang SMB bodega na from time to time my barge nga nagasulod sa sum-ag river..

Korek gid na nga idea...kay I think sang una wasn't a good time to develop and open businesses sa south (Tangub to Sum-ag) kay di pa damu residential areas to support commercial strips there (lesson learned by Group K Entertainment)...maybe subong pwede na amat amatan dira lapit sa old airport and Transcom, along GSIS, Bangga Pahanocoy and syempre sa Sum-ag highway. Akon gani suggestion nga dira ibutang between Robinson's Cybergate and Transcom City ang Bacolod South Terminal para winner gid para sa tanan dira.

I truly agree with this...amu na abi migo ang desbintaha kun private ang port like BREDCO kay ga pinagusto lang....look at PPA (gov't-run) ports sa Pilipinas, bisan gagamay lang pero organized kay integrated ang passenger terminal kag ang cargo area.

good news....

Airforce HQ in Negros soon
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The Philippine Air Force will soon set up its regional tactical operation group headquarters at the Bacolod-Silay Airport in Negros Occidental.

The PAF in the Western Visayas presently has its Tactical Operation Group-6 headquarters in Iloilo.

The establishment of the Air Force TOG-6 headquarters at the Bacolod-Silay Airport was endorsed by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., who requested for approval and authority from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to sign the memorandum of agreement by and between the province of Negros Occidental and the PAF.

The TOG-6 headquarters will house PAF air assets, such as helicopter gunship, war and cargo air transport planes. The Air Force headquarters in Region 6 was proposed to be transferred from Iloilo to Negros Occidental during the stint of retired General Victor Ibrado, then commander of the AFP Central Command.

The proposed MOA stipulated that the provincial government will acquire four hectares of land within or near the vicinity of the Bacolod-Silay Airport in Brgy. Bagtic, Silay City, while the PAF will undertake the development of the area, construction and maintenance of structures, and facilities.

The MOA also states that the PAF will give Negros Occidental priority in extending assistance, or preference to the needs of the province in times of emergency, calamity and similar circumstances, when its services may be needed.

The establishment of an Air Force headquarters at the Bacolod-Silay Airport was welcomed by military officials in Negros island, who have to request for air support, either from Cebu or Iloilo in times of emergency crisis and tactical operations against lawless groups.*GPB

Kung tani ginhimo lang nila daw classical colors ivory white or light blue nga bordering on white na ya bi. The color is too bright and too distracting. The Cathedral in Roxas City also used to have that color but they reverted to peach - ivory white-ish colors.

Neg. Occ. DTI exports
increase by 67 percent

The Department of Trade and Industry in Negros Occidental has increased its export sales by 67 percent from January to May from DTI assisted micro, small, and medium enterprises, Romel Amihan, trade and industry development specialist, said yesterday.

The DTI monitoring report showed a $724,271.94 sales for five months compared to last year’s sales of $441,441.56 of the same phase.

The $282,830.38 increase translates to the continuous support of the DTI to the product development of the MSMEs and their wide range of export markets, Amihan said.

He said the MSMEs identified as priority sectors of DTI are gifts, decors, and housewares, processed foods, garments, and furniture.

Among the GDH products are assorted pandan with ceramics, laminated items, and lamps. The processed foods include muscovado and banana products, garments sector is exporting children’s dresses, and furniture sets, he also said.

He said products are exported to Europe, United States of America, Paris, France, Japan, Italy, Germany, New Delhi, India, Guam, Panama, Korea, and Amsterdam.

Meanwhile, the domestic sales increased from P66,290,710.64 last year to P171, 242,419.86 this year.*LTG

MWP prov’l search
set in Bacolod

Chairman and CEO Cory Quirino of the CQ Global Quest Inc. and national director-licensee of Miss World Philippines announced that one of the stops of the provincial search for aspiring candidates to the MWP will be at the SM City Bacolod on July 10.

The search yielded several young first-time beauty pageant applicants during its kickoff in Naga City in early May. Other searches were held in SM City Cebu where a mini-beauty pageant attracted hundreds of mallgoers, SM Mall of Asia, SM City Pampanga in San Fernando City and SM City Davao, a press release from the mall in Bacolod City said.

In a press conference in January, Julia Morley, chairman and CEO of the Miss World Organization, made a final presentation of the Miss World license to Quirino in the presence of Miss World 2010 Alexandria Mills and 2nd Princess Emma Wareus, the press release said.

The Miss World Philippines Slogan is "Beauty in Giving" inspired by the famous Miss World Slogan "Beauty with a Purpose". Taking this corporate social responsibility to heart, the Philippine pageant has adopted the Tuloy Streetchildren Foundation, headed by Fr. Rock Evangelista; and Philippine General Medical Foundation, led by Dr. Greg Alvior, as beneficiaries.

The deadline for submission of application forms is July 31. The coronation and pageant night is set on September 18, at the Philippine International Convention Center, the press release said.

Prospective candidates should contact the MWP office at 780-4789, local 7171, or 0910-2382461, or visit www.missworldphilippines.com, the press release added.*
