What is the tallest power station building ( without rooftop chimneys) in the world?

My suggestion

Unit K of Niederaussem Power Station with 172 metres roof height ( http://www.statik.bv.tu-muenchen.de/content/current/excursion/braunkohlekraftwerk/braunkohlekraftwerk.htm )

The tallest cooling tower (200m) in the world is also at Niederaussem.

I know, but it is no "real" building. Nevertheless, one should not forget that the building of Niederaussem Power Station is the tallest "real" building in Germany outside Frankfurt/Main. And there are several other power station building from nearly the same height.
A good example is Schwarze Pumpe Power Station with 165 metres roof height

You are correct, those industrial building are the tallest outside Frankfurt. According to this article (http://www.statik.bv.tu-muenchen.de/content/current/excursion/braunkohlekraftwerk/braunkohlekraftwerk.htm) the height is 172 m which makes it a few meter taller than the 165 meter tall Posttower in Bonn, the tallest skyscraper outside Frankfurt. It is interesting that most of Germany's biggest and tallest structures are industrial, just notice the amount of tall chimneys.

Kraftwerk Neurath is just a few km from the one in Niederaussem and has also two big buildings of 170 m, which are under construction in the picture below. This was also the biggest construction site in Europe. Another interesting fact is that the tallest crane in the world was also at this site.

Why the height?

It's basicaly an enormous boiler. I assume that 'bigger is better' applies here. These power stations are among the biggest in the world.

I do not believe that the enormous height is a direct result of the installed power. For example, there are many large power stations in other countries whose buildings are not so tall.

I can't find a better picture, but this diagrams shows the one in Neurath. It shows that the boiler is constructed above the combustion chamber. Perhaps that's why this building is so tall.

I do not believe that the enormous height is a direct result of the installed power.
It's quite often simply a matter of available or allowed ground space. Every square meter counts.

I think that available space is not the problem as these power stations are not in urban areas.
But it can be for physical reasons better to build them so.

Can you include in database Obelixx....?. Maybe we can do a drawing..... What about the height of the new Kraftwerk im Hamburg....?

The wonders of coal energy, Cologne/Köln area, Germany. This is the area surrounding the first station of this thread.

Say thanks to the Grünen for the nuclear ban.
I'm amazed how huge scars like these can be dug in a dense region in the heart of the Blue Banana.
Judging only by aesthetics, these are some cool-looking pics, love those industrial landscapes.

Germany just shot itself in the foot...

Terrible decision to give up on nuclear power, and one which will come back to haunt it.

Boxberg plant, behind a coal mine :

Let's keep in mind that coal is also pretty popular in the US, and has some strong political backup (http://blogs.wvgazette.com/coaltattoo/files/2009/03/friendsofcoal360x4502.jpg).

One power station we won't be seeing is this biomass plant proposed for Middlesborough, UK. The developers were unable to secure funding. Not sure about the height, although from the plans it appears to be around 100m

beacouse of sceens like that and the radioactive material it burns you should consider nuclear power plants.
Oh well suffocate yourself.

The cooling towers of the nuclear power plant in Doel, Antwerp, are the highest in Belgium: 165 meter:

The cooling tower at Niederaussem Power Station is 200 metres tall. However the building of Doel Nuclear Power Plant is much less tall and not taller than that of other nuclear power plants.

I do not know, where the tallest building of a nuclear power plant is ( I mean hereby height of the building, not height of cooling towers or chimneys), but I believe no building of a nuclear power plant is taller than 100 metres.

I thought this would be height as in altitude, and I wonder if there are technical difficulties concerning certain types of power stations built in high-altitude plateaus around the world?
