The F111s did a practice run about 30 minutes ago. I happened to be walking home on a street that has a great view of the city, so I saw most of it. Very nice.

I was walking to uni through the botanic gardens - a saw the plane arch past the trees just above the river, sounded fantastic!

I am planning to be atop the cliffs at Bowen Tce overlooking the city and bridge.

Riverfire is awesome. i remember watching it from the top of a building in eagle st a couple of years ago and the noise, the smells and the lights are just the best. Anyone within coo ee should make it if they can, 'cause it is just ace. :)

I'm very Jealous - Riverfire was one of my favourite events in Brisbane - and the F-111 dump and burn over the city was spectacular. Unfortuntely this year I'm stuck in Sale, so all I get to see are the roulettes and every now and again a few F-111s or F/A-18s - but definitely no dump and burns. Did you know USAF pilots are banned from dump and burns? We're very lucky here.

Anyway, post some pictures.

How much do they dump in burn, and what would be the cost.

I hope they bought it via a Coles shopping docket :blahblah:

The "Dump and burn" was designed to quickly get rid of a lot of fuel. Apart from using it in operational situations, it's used only for very high public events. The cost, not sure really but let's just say it's not cheap to run an F-111.

Again it was awesome! The f1-11s are the best. I was at Kangaroo Point, near the Naval Stores.
The f1-11s at the start were cool with the twinkling coming out the back.

Even tho I parked under a "no parking limit" sign in Geelong Street, East Brisbane, I still got a $50 fine!

Excellent event and the F111's are certainly the highlight.

Channel 9 did a vastly improved telecast this year with coverage uninterrupted by commercials.

That's probably because there was a Lions game on at the Gabba. A massive area becomes strictly 5 minute parking during games.

The coverage was crap, especially on the fireworks on the Story Bridge. Surely they could get a camera on the roof at Dockside or even set one up on Mt Cootha.

Oh and for next year scrap the conversation between the 9 and Triple M guys. That just looked painful.

Yeah I knew that, it says on the fine "excluding streets where otherwise marked with signs"

So I shouldnt have got a fine.

the parking inspectors are overjealous on game nights. Even though you should be able to park where you did, the inspectors seem to have this idea that only resident cars should be allowed in the area.Unfortuately there isn't really much you can do.

The Lightning was a nice touch!!

Loved the way that f111 flew into the cloud and lit it up - looked very sci-fi.

I was stuck at home, but the coverage on Channel 9 wasnt too bad although it didnt seem as big as usual, I thought it must have been the rain cos we got heaps in Enoggera, but a friend said that they didnt get much rain. The usual huge fireworks off the bridge seemed small to me. They certainly upped the anti by taking the fireworks all the way to Toowong this time. We could see the top of the dump and burn from home, looked magnificent in the clouds.

The F1-11 always looks good. I'm sure when I was a kid they used to have 5 do the "dump and burn" for Warana (an old Spring festival that used to have a parade in town and finished with a mini-Ekka at Southbank).

The F1-11's are getting close to retirement now, and the replacement jets, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighters won't be capable of doing the dump and burn. In fact, very few planes are, I think the Aussie F1-11's are the only ones that do it in the world.

theyll prob maintain some to continue it?

Blend - "theyll prob maintain some to continue it?"

Sorry but I highly doubt that they would keep some of the F1-11's at a cost of millions of dollars per year just to do the dump and burn at riverfire... They are extremely close to retirement, and boy will there be a gap once they're gone...

It was cost an absolute fortune to keep them going post about 2010. In fact a lot of people in the RAAF would like to get rid of them now to free up funds. They cost a bit to keep flying. You have to think of costs such as crew training and proficeny as well as maintanence.

The ADF is trying to get cruise missiles that can be fired from the current FA-18's, P-3c's and warships to replace the great strike capabilty and regional deterance that the F1-11's gave us.

Liked the video of Riverfire by the way, does anyone else remember Warana?
