RafflesCity November 24th, 2002, 03:18 PM Great job Jan! :D
This list is a dynamic list, and autocalculates the average score each time a rate is given. So members can still rate.
Notice that if 2 buildings have the same score, the taller of the two is ranked higher.
Remember to take the time to rate EVERY building to have a fair poll :)
Sunflower November 24th, 2002, 10:01 PM the Bank of China Tower is 2nd :D
but why are there only 98 buildings?
Bobdreamz November 24th, 2002, 10:22 PM Jan thank you for compiling this list!...very interesting indeed!.....I'm surprised that the Petronas weren't in the top 10 but happy to see the Queen (Chrysler) at top!
and a special thank you to DMac and RafflesCity for the excellent job they have done with ROT thread!!!....great job guys!!... :D :D
Liz L November 24th, 2002, 11:08 PM I also thank you, Dmac and Rafflescity - wonderful job!
I'm very pleased to see Chrysler #1, followed by my other faves - the Bank of China, the ESB, Woolworth, and the Center in Hong Kong, all in the top 10!
Art Deco rules! :okay: (But there are some other awesome towers out there, too!)
RafflesCity November 25th, 2002, 01:16 AM Everyone's welcome, and dont forget Jasonhouse and a couple of others who made some of the threads too!
Anyway this list is quite interesting..
The usual suspects make the top 10, but I wasnt expecting
City Gate to be there. This is not because I feel it doesnt deserve its position, but probably because I didnt associate it straightaway when thinking of great skyscrapers.
I was also surprised that the Petronas and Sears didnt make the top10..which reminds me of a thread I made a while back on 'the most overrated skyscraper' where I gave a choice of Chrysler, ESB, BoC, Petronas and Sears. I guess I got the answer:)
Some other points
Top 5 American skyscrapers
1. Chrysler Building, NY
2. Empire State Building, NY
3. Woolworth Building, NY
4. Bank of America Corp Ctr, Charlotte
5. 1 Liberty Place, Philadelphia
Top 5 Asian skyscrapers
1. Bank of China Tower, HK
2. The Centre, HK
3. Menara Telekom, KL
4. Petronas Twin Towers, KL
5. CITIC Plaza, Guangzhou
Top European - Messeturm, Frankfurt
Top Middle East - Burj Al Arab, Dubai
Top Australian - 120 Collins St, Melbourne
It seems that NY skyscrapers dominate the top10, with all being built before WWII!
Best box - CITIC Plaza, Guangzhou
OK..thats it for now..this post will be edited if the list changes
D-Mac November 25th, 2002, 03:55 AM Due a little glitch some of the low votes weren't being counted for Chrysler Building (because it wasn't in the standard format with "3 or less" at the bottom) so I fixed the threads that weren't properly formatted, causing a few ratings to change.
Raffles, the best Middle East skyscraper would be Burj Al Arab at #6, wouldn't it?
The top 10 is quite surprising to me. Bank of America in Charlotte is at #3, but it doesn't have nearly as many votes as the others, so I think it might drop off given time. CityGate, Messeturm and One Liberty Place were also unexpected. The Jin Mao Tower is way down at #25, I thought that would be much higher.
CG5 November 25th, 2002, 04:11 AM Weird...no matter how many times I try, the link never takes me anywhere.
SUNNI November 25th, 2002, 08:27 AM wow, thepetronas and the sears got the most votes!
how long that take ya jan?
thx alot, enjoyed...;) :D
SteelCity32 November 25th, 2002, 10:08 PM very nice skills Jan. Lots of people like the Bank of China Tower.
wow 69 votes for 10/10...thats a lot.

Notice that only a couple of the people who gave it under 8 actually made a post as well...
SteelCity32 November 26th, 2002, 12:49 AM yeah. Most people just vote, and don't post...
Liz L November 26th, 2002, 07:59 AM I've really enjoyed getting a look at all the impressive 'scrapers out there; this is the first time I've seen pictures of a number of them. I still have my Art Deco favorites, but a lot of the newer towers are pretty awesome, as well - especially those that move "outside the box". The broad range of styles, even if I can't always "wrap my eyes around them" to get a coherent impression right away, is really amazing
And with all the jaw-dropping, neck-craning unbelievable architecture out there, I CAN'T BELIEVE the planners in New York can't do a better job than those six feeble plans they unvieled in July - I'm going to have to write them a letter politely suggesting that there ARE architects outside of New York City who can actually design impressive buildings that get built, unlike that strange little cabal of architectural lunatic fringers like Eissenmann (spelling?) that the NY Times critic Muschkamp (spelling again?) seems to favor...
Oh, and BTW, notice what hunk-a-junk is reliably at the bottom of the ratings? I just can't believe it got as much as a 4.44 average...
KGB December 5th, 2002, 06:33 AM I hate to say I've noticed a little "dirty pool" going on. Check out how many have voted "3 or less" on buildings to lower that building's average, and it's place in the rankings. And I doubt it's because they actually think it's that terrible of a building.
KGB
Liz L December 15th, 2002, 09:54 AM Sheeshhh....Politics!
What's even stranger to me is that the hunk-a-junk in N. Korea is actually climbing a bit in the ratings, up to 4.54, even though it's still last....
Westin Peachtree December 16th, 2002, 05:35 AM EDIT!
Sweeeet Jan! This is cool.
TYW December 18th, 2002, 04:08 AM great list!! ROT100 won't be completed without it
Kevinkhoo1986 December 25th, 2002, 07:35 AM is this list final?
RafflesCity December 27th, 2002, 01:10 PM The results of scores in the list is not final. It changes each time someone votes and recalculates the average.
We also update the list as and when new buildings are completed:cheers:
hireliberty January 30th, 2003, 09:13 PM Great job, Jan. I wonder who wrote the ROT script? :) Petronas Twin Towers should be way up to number 1 though... LOL, j/k.
Francis20 February 25th, 2003, 12:34 PM great great job!
someone must design a faster program for that. hehe...i dunno how. now, what about the top 102-200 skyscrapers?
Wu-Gambino February 28th, 2003, 01:35 AM Great job Jan!:okay:
ShangHigh March 4th, 2003, 04:28 AM Strange... I couldn't find my beloved Plaza 66 on that list...

There might have been a glitch which caused the poll results to disappear. However I have restored the poll results by adding in the scores of those who replied.

Galactica August 3rd, 2003, 08:13 PM I don´t understand,
CITIC Plaza is No 6 with average point 7,8527

Bank of China is No 11 with average point 8,65.
How is that ?
james2390 August 7th, 2003, 06:26 PM great job jan! it amazing
bgwah August 10th, 2003, 11:19 PM Wow, Seattle's BOA Tower is #2!!! I didn't know we were so popular. :D
Cliff August 16th, 2003, 04:00 AM That's funny, Highcliff is second:)
huaiwei August 28th, 2003, 07:52 AM High cliff is still second with less the 50 voters! Im surprised nobody is doing anything about it! :D
Anyway, I notice the banner picture for the ROT shows the skyline of Rotterdam, while that for the ROS shows the PTT. Shoudnt they be the other way round? ;)
Patrick September 7th, 2003, 07:19 PM Messeturm #15 and Commerzbank #18 not bad
caspervc October 5th, 2003, 11:16 PM tnx jan
Denoordrotterdammer December 30th, 2003, 08:05 AM LOL
Jan weetje er staan nog geen Hollandse-torens in. Dat vind ik wel K*T. Heeft de Coolsingeltoren over een paar jaar de kans om er in te staan.
PS je hebt het wel mooi gedaan:moods:
Wu-Gambino January 22nd, 2004, 10:50 PM Taipei 101 is now on the list.
With 2 votes, it is ranked 30th.
Fragem2001 April 29th, 2004, 09:53 AM You forgot the Sears Tower in Chicago, it is one of the most magnificent buildings in the world. Up until the late 1990's it was unmatched in Tallness
huaiwei April 29th, 2004, 05:40 PM You forgot the Sears Tower in Chicago, it is one of the most magnificent buildings in the world. Up until the late 1990's it was unmatched in Tallness
It is in the chart, is it not?
José May 13th, 2004, 06:53 AM i THINK THAT there is no statistical significance between the difference of the first and second place buildings, which can be verified with a simple statistical test based on asymptotical normal distribution of rates given...
so, chrysler and the hong kong building are tied...
The Messiah June 8th, 2004, 12:21 AM What! The 2ifc is ranked higher then the ESB! Nooo...that can't be! :(
Islander July 31st, 2004, 01:18 AM ^It's a computer glitch for sure. ;)
And where on EARTH is the Woolworth building on that list?
7 World Trade July 31st, 2004, 02:38 AM woolworth is no longer in the top 100. it used to be, but all these new skyscrapers have squeezed it past 100 already.
you can find it in the 101-200 rankings poll.
Islander July 31st, 2004, 03:12 AM Oh, I get it now, thanks.
Yardmaster August 23rd, 2004, 09:19 PM Every building in the top 512 deserves to be studied and to be honoured.
David3820 August 26th, 2004, 08:48 PM Lol, thanks it's interesting to see all of those tall buildings and I'm voting and responding to some of those threads right now. :)
GoldenGate September 10th, 2004, 04:41 PM Where is Swiss RE? this has really suprised me, i just took a glimpse and its amazing, nevermind, i suppose it allows our scrapers the stay up there ;)
RafflesCity September 11th, 2004, 04:43 PM This ranking is only for the 100 tallest buildings.
The Swiss Re can be found in the "Other skyscrapers section" - Europe and Africa :)
xeror September 24th, 2004, 10:57 PM Why there are two #80, Langham Place Tower, Hong Kong and Capital Tower, Singapore?
TinkyWinky December 1st, 2004, 04:34 AM I was a bit shocked Swiss Re didn't make it into the top 200...
RafflesCity December 3rd, 2004, 02:05 AM ^
Its not tall enough to be be among the 300 tallest in the world
Islander December 3rd, 2004, 02:13 AM Right. Just be happy in knowing that if the Swiss Re were tall enough to be on the list, it would be way up there in the rankings.
Azn_chi_boi March 21st, 2005, 12:53 AM Whats is the current result for the top 100 rating?

Azi September 15th, 2005, 12:23 AM Awesome rating system, very cool!
Ace September 17th, 2005, 11:33 PM Yeah, It would be nice to organise a real Skyscraper Award somewhere in The World. We could make A TV-show of It, like The Oscars. Ofcourse Live Broadcasted.
With prices in various categories:
-Best Skyscraper Overall
-Best skyscraper 100-150m.
-Best skyscraper 150-200m.
-Best skyscraper 200-250m.
......etc.......
And best Skyline also ofcourse.
The winner of this Award will have to organise the Awards the next year.
Because everywhere are rising new skyscrapers it is possible that the list also will change every year. The member list of Skyscrapercity also changes every year and every member has a different taste. And even if A Skyscraper will win 2/3 times A row, WTF.
Ofcourse we'll need to find sponsors for this. Maybe some multinationals (like banks or insurance companies) will be in for this. They house a lot of highrise in the World.
Here on Skyscrapercity the list will have to be kept behind closed doors, or else it won't be fun anymore.
The Mad Hatter!! September 17th, 2005, 11:49 PM ^doesn't emporis do it already
Ace September 18th, 2005, 12:33 AM I dunno. If so, ofcourse we'll have 2 do It better!
eddyk October 12th, 2005, 02:35 PM Is it me or is the Swiss RE not on there?
Newcastle Guy October 12th, 2005, 10:26 PM ^^
Just what i was gonna say. Can some one add Swiss Re. I think it deserves a place here, and i'm sure many will agree
Buse October 13th, 2005, 09:13 PM Because these are the 100 tallest building, ordered by popularity. Capisce?
But anyway, maybe you should think about a ranking disregarding <3.5 & 10. Leaving out al lot of chauvinistic votes (until people notice it) :)

The 50 floor One Raffles Quay in Singapore, 245m tall had been completed few months ago. :)

http://www.intrepidearth.com/tour/07/01/08/index.php?loc=1
its a shame that you can't see the ones in china very clearly due to the pollution, but the aerial pics def give a sense of just how huge some of these buildings are. I have to say IFC 2, looks the most impressive.

Not listed there, but the ICC in HK reportedly has nearly as much office space as one of the WTC towers - partly due to its girth I suppose - it's fucking fat...like obese.
Cunning Linguist November 25th, 2007, 06:59 AM ICC will have:
232,000 square metres of grade A office space
93,000 square metres of shopping mall
Two six star hotels
Luxury residences
Serviced apartments
Subway station

ZZ-II July 26th, 2008, 10:12 AM Why not remove this thread, I cant remember it ever working during the time ive been at SSC
no need to remove it, yesterday i started to update the list. just look on the first post, in a few days you can see the complete Top 100 list there ( not the diagram from Jan, just the list ).
MichiganWolverine August 7th, 2008, 11:48 PM The original posts make this poll sound very intriguing with the way it automatically recalculated the average score for every building after each vote. Is there a way to restore this functionality to this thread? Perhaps by displaying prominently a graph or list of the average score for the top 100. I think this would be really cool to see especially considering the new crowd of supertalls be finished in the coming months and years.
ZZ-II August 8th, 2008, 09:46 AM i thought about that too already, i'll have to ask Jan for that...don't think i can create such a diagram :)
helghast August 10th, 2008, 04:46 AM pretty soon u guys will have to add the 360m Almas Tower
xever_7 August 12th, 2008, 01:41 AM ^^ Yeah that's a nice one.
ZZ-II August 12th, 2008, 08:36 PM in september i'll make the next update, some new towers are ready until then :)
Gerard August 13th, 2008, 12:09 AM Where can i find the real time calculation of the voting results ? Or has
that disappeared ?
ZZ-II August 13th, 2008, 12:18 AM it didn't work for a quite long time already so i deleted the links for now. i'll ask Jan if it is possible to reactivate that, would be great i think :)
Gerard August 28th, 2008, 01:37 AM ^^ Ok thanks. Would be great to see it back.
henry hill September 19th, 2008, 09:21 PM Would be great:)
big-dog September 23rd, 2008, 07:00 AM Great job ZZ-II. This forum is one of the most frequently updated forums in SSC.
bizzybonita September 28th, 2008, 09:58 AM This thread need a huge update !
ZZ-II September 28th, 2008, 03:37 PM the ranking list is updated :), only the chart listing is missing yet
K14N September 29th, 2008, 05:20 AM the ranking list is updated :), only the chart listing is missing yet
In Jakarta, Wisma 46 height is 262m, not 250m as mentioned. No matter about the rank then, but pls revise its' height :) It's still mentioned 250m though many Indonesian forumers have asked to revised it...
ZZ-II October 1st, 2008, 10:12 AM thx i'll fix it in my next update, that the ranking also is correct :)

ReiAyanami June 2nd, 2009, 01:11 AM ZZ-II, I'm amazed how you manage to keep up with so many threads! ^_^
ZZ-II June 2nd, 2009, 06:51 PM no problem for me :). you only need exel, word, PDF-Maker, 2 screens with full HD and 10 fast fingers on the keyboard :D.
mjx729 August 20th, 2009, 03:56 AM good job
Littlemob September 10th, 2009, 06:01 PM no offense to ZZ-II think you do great work for this forum. I think there is some kind of forgery or bad calculation's because some of the most ugliest Chinese skyscrapers are in the top 100. (I'm not saying china has only ugly buildings but I've seen far better buildings in china than here in the top 100). It would help if you can see the average score of each building. keep up the good work.
wise_zech September 16th, 2009, 01:29 PM i like taipei 101
Heroico October 26th, 2009, 11:03 PM me too
RandomNameTag November 22nd, 2009, 09:12 PM So, are the mods going to do a mass editing of the heights of some buildings due to the recent changes in which the CTBUH have made to their measurements?

ikops April 13th, 2010, 11:11 AM This may sound dumb but why is the former sears tower number 4, theirs nothing nice about that building.
Because it's the fourth highest building? :dunno:
MakaWella May 13th, 2010, 12:59 AM Sapphire Istanbul 261m isn't on the list?
serhat May 19th, 2010, 11:24 PM Sapphire of Istanbul fourth tallest skyscraper in Europe
Arrrgh July 22nd, 2010, 04:45 PM I've put all votes of the Top 300 buildings in an Excel file (you don't want to know how long it took me to do that...) and will publish the scores gradually on my blog, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly (http://gbuscraper.blogspot.com/).
Starting from the center of the list, working both to the top and the bottom of the list, two buildings each day (or more if I'm in the mood). So we'll start with two middle-of-the-road, plain skyscrapers and we'll gradually work towards both the most wonderful as the most eye-destroyingly ugly monstrosities (if everybody voted fair of course).
But I was wondering: why are there so many buildings not on the list? Like the Burj Dubai/Khalifa? Can I create a new thread for those buildings?
p.s. These forum section is great! Thanks!
HK999 July 22nd, 2010, 04:52 PM ^^ ICC is missing too. :|
im_from_zw038 August 4th, 2010, 07:46 PM Why is there no Burj Dubai poll?
gltpei August 25th, 2010, 10:49 AM thank you very much!!
RON-E September 18th, 2010, 05:22 PM great list! i would have some different ones in my top 100, but its good to see what other people consider top
OldBoy137 September 19th, 2010, 09:17 PM ^^ Users don't choose the best skyscraper.Buildings are enumerated by their height.
oli83 September 27th, 2010, 12:35 PM ^^ ICC is missing too. :|
Why is there no Burj Dubai poll?
These buildings are still in the U/C forums.. If one of the mods makes the next update they will certainly be included here.

Vormek December 2nd, 2010, 04:30 PM Update the list for crying out loud! Is it really that hard? Give me a moderator position and I would be done within an hour.

Storm Aiden February 3rd, 2011, 09:33 AM This is cool and This is fine. The top 10 is quite surprising to me. Bank of America in Charlotte is at #3, but it doesn't have nearly as many votes as the others, so I think it might drop off given time. CityGate, Messeturm and One Liberty Place were also unexpected. The Jin Mao Tower is way down at #25, I thought that would be much higher.
vinith98 April 3rd, 2011, 03:14 PM Thank you very much for the list, however I find that it hasn't been updated from a long time. Anyways among the high rises the Petronas Twin towers is my favorite since I have been there many times. The view from the top is breath taking.

lemonslicetravels January 10th, 2013, 03:08 PM The World's Tallest building is in Dubai, UAE. Its called Burj Khalifa. It stands at 828m and has a observatory desk on the 126th floor. If you are ever planning to visit Dubai then check out Top Attractions to see in Dubai (http://www.lemonslicetravels.com/dubai/dubai-attractions.html)
