KUALA LUMPUR: It's confirmed. Another Integrated Transport Terminal (ITT) is set to be constructed, this time in Sungai Buloh.
Following the construction of the Bandar Tasik Selatan and Gombak (South-bound and East Coast-bound, respectively) model, a similar one will be built in Sungai Buloh for Northbound passenger carriers.
Land Public Transport Commission (LPTC) chief executive officer, Mohd Nur Ismal Kamal, said the Sungai Buloh ITT would complement Sungai Buloh’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and KTM Komuter services.
“In the future, we do not want express buses from the north entering KL. The government has chosen Sungai Buloh as an ITT hub due to its easy access to the North-South Expressway and connectivity with the MRT and KTM Komuter stations,” he told The Malay Mail after a MRT media briefing yesterday.
"The ITT in Sungai Buloh will cater to intercity and express buses, rental cars, taxis as well as those using the KTM Komuter service and Sungai Buloh–Kajang MRT line."
When asked if the MRT would run through the northern hub, he said: “It is still open for discussion. Perhaps, it may just follow the ITT concept in Bandar Tasik Selatan where the building is constructed just beside the rail tracks. One sure thing is the ITT in Sungai Buloh will be similar to the transport hub in Bandar Tasik Selatan, which will be operational early next year.”
He said the southern hub was a good example of a strategically-located public transport facility. The 20-hectare site of the Bandar Tasik Selatan ITT is located next to KLIA Express Rail Link (ERL), Star LRT and KTM Komuter stations, and comprise a six-storey main terminal building, 21 bus departure bays, 18 bus arrival bays, 31 bays for long-haul taxis and 1,372 car park bays.
The RM570 million southern hub can accommodate between 20,000 and 40,000 commuters a day with a maximum access of up to 110 buses per hour. It also has an organised road system and an integrated computer system to monitor traffic flow.
It is learnt all the integrated public transport terminals — East, North and South — will be equipped with an advanced transport management technology, including the use of a single-ticketing system.
The public transport facility in Sungai Buloh will be built when the MRT rail line from Sungai Buloh to Kajang, the first phase of the MRT, is completed in 2015.
