I don't have much hope in this. This stone laying is an election gimmick. Next government won't be interested in developing this. Yesterday UDF has threatened about two smart cities. I guess both will be in Kochi.

CM to lay foundation for Cyberpark Kannur on Jan 15
Kannur: Chief Minister Shri V S Achuthanandan will lay the foundation stone for the Cyberpark at Kannur on January 15, 2010. This will be the third Cyberpark in the Malabar region after Cyberpark Kasargod and Cyberpark Kozhikode.

Cyberpark Kannur will come up on 25 acres of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) notified land in Eramom village near Taliparamba. The master plan for the IT park and the design of the first IT Building with a built-up area of 50,000 sq. ft has been finalised. The park is expected to provide direct employment to about 20,000 IT professionals and the indirect employment will be about four times this number.

Binu Pazhoor, CEO, Cyberpark said, “Cyberpark will add another feather to the infrastructure development initiatives in Kannur. It will act as a catalyst for more growth in the region. In addition to providing the infrastructure for IT and ITES-based industries, Cyberpark Kannur is also expected to attract other investors for residential, commercial, educational and healthcare-related projects in and around the region. Kannur is expected to witness huge infrastructure development over the next 10 years and at no doubt will be one of the most sought-after destinations for any kind of investment”.

The Cyberparks at Kannur and Kasargod will come up as spokes of the Cyberpark at Kozhikode.

Cyberpark bets on Kannur airport, Keralites desire to relocate
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As Kerala’s third major government-sponsored tech park, Cyberpark, readies to get itself on stream, the park authorities are betting on the proposed new international airport in Kannur, and the desire of thousands of Keralite techies working in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to relocate to their home town, to provide additional fillips to the park’s prospects.

Cyberpark will be the third IT hub in Kerala , following the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and Infopark at Kochi, both of which have been successful in leasing out ready-built space to domestic and international clients. Cyberpark will have its hub at Kozhikode, and two spokes at Kannur and Kasaragod.

Cyberpark CEO Binu A Pazhoor told ET that an international airport at Kannur will make the Cyberpark locations even more accessible, considering that there is already an international airport at Kozhikode. He said Keralite techies working in Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Coimbatore and Chennai were keen to move into the Malabar region, and that some companies had already approached Cyberpark to explore the options of setting up base there.

The hub at Kozhikode is coming up over a 43-acre plot, while 25 acres have been acquired for the Kannur park and 100 acres for the facility at Kasaragod. Pazhoor said the first phase of the Kozhikode park involved an outlay of Rs 100 crore, and Rs 30 crore would be spent on basic infrastructure work at the Kannur park.

The first tenants of Cyberpark are likely to move into the park premises by the end of this year, and the park will host both small and medium enterprises as well as major players including multinational tech companies. Pazhoor said Cyberpark was in talks with private developers too, for co-development on the park premises.

Cyberpark is promoting itself as a virgin IT destination, with the high quality of life index in the Malabar region and a distinct cost arbitrage for companies and employees in comparison to bigger towns and cities in neighbouring states. It is also counting on the knowledge leveraging it can utilize, with the presence of an IIM and an NIT at Kozhikode.

A report on recent developments near Payyannur. Pariyaram Medical College, District Ayurvedic College, Peringome CRPF camp, Ezhimala Naval Academy and both Kannur and Kasargod Cyberpark are within 25 kms from Payyannur. I would like add Cheemeni Power Project and Central University when it shifts to Cheemeni. Will Payyannur surpass Kannur and Thalassery to become the largest city in North Malabar? Let us wait and see.

Kerala launches new IT park in Kannur
Kerala is set to add another IT destination to its map today with the laying of the foundation stone of Cyberpark Kannur at Pulloopara in Eramom village near Taliparamba by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan.
The Cyberpark at Kannur will be the third IT park in the Malabar region after Cyberpark Kasaragod and Cyberpark Kozhikode.
Cyberpark Kannur is estimated to have 150,000 square feet of built-up area.
The park is being set up to attract major companies in the IT sector, and is expected to provide employment for 2,500 to 5,000 people.
Once fully completed, it will generate direct employment opportunities for 20,000 and indirect employment opportunities for 80,000.
Authorities hope that Cyberpark Kannur will add a golden feather to the infrastructure development initiatives in Kannur.
Catalyst for growth
Binu Pazhoor, CEO of Cyberpark, said: "The Cyberpark at Kannur will add another feather to the infrastructure development initiatives. It will act as a catalyst for more growth in the region.
"In addition to providing the infrastructure for IT and ITES-based industries, Cyberpark Kannur is also expected to attract other investors for residential, commercial, educational and healthcare-related projects in and around the region."
Kannur is expected to witness huge infrastructure development over the next 10 years, he said, adding that no doubt it will be one of the most sought-after destinations for any kind of investment.
He said the programme was initially planned for January 15, 2010, but was postponed in the wake of the Sabarimala tragedy.
Cyberpark Kannur is being developed by the Cyber Park Society constituted by the government of Kerala to encourage information technology initiatives in the Malabar region and will come up as a spoke of the Cyberpark at Kozhikode.
The master plan for the IT park and the design of the first IT building with a built-up area of 50,000 square feet has been finalised.
The Kerala budget 2011-12 has earmarked Rs1 billion (Dh80.5 million) for additional land acquisition for IT parks.
The Kerala State Information Technology Mission, the nodal agency for e-governance programmes in the state, will get Rs300 million, and the Trivandrum Technopark-based Indian Institute of Information Technology Management, Rs90 million.

Has this been proposed as a spoke of Calicut Cyberpark? If yes, don't expect any progress without the hub is developed. Even that is progressing slow.

They should have selected some location near engg college, bw Kannur and Tly or somewhere on proposed Airport road. I think there is one small facility already available in Kannur (Dinesh IT park), they could have started some activities there to begin with. Once a small IT building comes with government support I am sure rest will be taken care by NRI investors.

There is a technocampus coming in Mayyil. That can be expanded to a bigger IT park. Mayyil is well connected with Kannur through town buses. There is direct roads access to Parassinikadavu, Taliparamba and eastern parts of the district. Also it is just 20 kms from the Airport. There is lot of land available in that region. Even if land has to be acquired there won't much problem as it is a sparsely populated area.

Proposed IT parks in Kannur, Kasaragod to get NABARD loan
:banana::banana::banana::banana: :cheers:

Works for developing proposed IT Parks at Eramam-Kuttoor in Kannur and Cheemeni in Kasaragod are expected to start soon as National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) has approved loans for the two projects along with the proposed IT Park in Kozhikode are being set up by Cyberpark, a State government organisation modelled on Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and Infopark in Kochi for promotion of investments in IT and ITES sectors in the Malabar region.

According to officials of the Cyberpark, the proposed IT Parks projects at Eramam-Kuttoor and Cheemeni are in the stage of execution as the process of securing allocated loan from NABARAD is in the final phase. They told The Hindu on Wednesday that NABARD had already allocated Rs. 21.4 crore by way of loan for setting up the IT Park on a 10.37 hectare land at Eramam Kuttoor. The loan was expected to be sanctioned soon with the completion of some paper works, they said.

NABARD had already sanctioned Rs. 21.4 crore for the IT Park project coming up on a 40.40 ha land at Cheemeni, they said adding that steps were now under way by Cyberpark to avail itself of the loan amount.

The loan for the IT Park in Kannur was expected to be sanctioned by next week, they added.

The works for the two IT Park projects would be tendered after the draft master plans of the parks being developed in Kannur and Kasaragod were finalised. The projects envisage development of IT Park startups of 1.5 lakh sq. ft. each with state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities to attract major players in the IT and ITES industry to establish their business in the two facilities. The two IT Parks have been granted Special Economic Zones (SEZ) status.

The land at Cheemeni has been transferred by the government from the public sector Plantation Corporation of Kerala. A senior retired Revenue official who has been posted to the Cyberpark for expediting the acquisition process said that minor issues relating to survey numbers of the Cheemeni land had been settled. The land had been transferred through negotiated purchase of land under the fast track process.

He said that the major handicap of the surplus land transferred by the government for developing the IT Park at Eramam-Kuttoor had been the absence of an access to the land. The only access to the land being a plot assigned to an individual, the issue was now settled by offering the person another nearby land in exchange for the plot, he said adding that the offer was now awaiting the government’s consent.

The Cyberpark officials said that the process of securing NABARD loan for the IT Project in Kozhikode was under way. The park would be set up as an SEZ on a 28 ha land in Nellikkod and Pantheerankavu villages in Kozhikode, they said.

Eramam cyber park remains on paper :bash:

KANNUR: The work on the proposed cyber park at Eramam has not reached anywhere because of administrative bottlenecks.

It's 19 months since the then chief minister, V S Achuthanandan, laid the foundation stone for the park, which is expected to provide jobs to nearly 10,000 people once it's fully completed. Around 25 acres of land has been acquired for the park. However, the proposed site does not have a proper entrance. :bash:

"The entry to the site can be developed only after we acquire the 75 cents of land lying close to the road. A private party owns that land," CEO of the park K G Girish Babu, told TOI. But if he has to vacate that land, the government will have to allot him alternative land, he added. "No infrastructure development can take place at the park site without acquiring this piece of land. We expect the government to acquire it soon," he said. So far, only the fencing work in some portion of the site has been completed.

Another issue the park faces pertains to SEZ status for the land, which has to be renewed. It now stands cancelled since the work on the park did not start at the stipulated time. :bash: "We have given the application for renewing the SEZ status to the board of approval in the ministry of commerce. We expect it to come through in the next two months," he added.

Though the board met on September 14, it renewed the SEZ status of only the Kasaragod IT park.

The park authorities, however, are hopeful about completing the first phase of the project in 2014. Its CEO said NABARD had already sanctioned a Rs 20-crore loan for the project.

The foundation stone was laid on February 20, 2011. The first phase, once completed, is expected to generate 1,000 jobs.

Since the IT industry in India is slowly shifting to rural areas, it is expected that the government will clear the stumbling blocks for these projects in the coming months.

It should come near to the city. The current one is far away.

It is always good to have a big IT park about 15 to 25 Kms away from the core city. This will give enough space to grow and traffic congestion can also be reduced when it flourishes. TVM Technopark @ Kazhakootam was almost 18 Kms away from the city center when it started and it enjoys a traffic free area due to this.

Electronic City IT Park and White Field ITPL are 25 - 30 KMs away from Bangalore city centre. Both these locations have developed after the IT parks have come up.

Even the upcoming Kollam Techno Park is 20 Kms away from the city centre. This will give enough development opportunity to the area where it comes.

Infact, the Kollam Techno Park that comes up 5 Kms off NH-208 near Kundara town. The price and development scope of the Kundara has increased many folds since the project initiation.

^^ It is not the issue of 20 or 30 kms. This is 45 kms from Kannur and 70 kms from Kannur airport. This is not Kannur at all. May be they can call it Payyannur Cyberpark similar to Ambalappuzha, Koratty and Cherthala IT parks. Any way KINFRA IT park is proposed near airport and KIAL too have idea for IT park in later phase.
