View Full Version : 2011 floods and Brisbane CBD towers edthecow January 14th, 2011, 02:45 AM I just saw water being pumped out of Felix's carpark. Does anyone know what other buildings were impacted? nathandavid88 January 14th, 2011, 03:29 AM Festival Tower's basement carpark was flooded, and so too was the basement of 111 Eagle St I'm pretty certain. duke January 14th, 2011, 03:37 AM River City & 212 Margaret - power shut down, water in basement car parks Felix - water in basement car park Festival Towers - water in basement car park, lift problems Charlotte Towers - no problems that I am aware of Casino Towers - no problems, lifts were shut down for periods on Wednesday (to avoid trapping residents in lifts) due to uncertainty about Energex power cuts Aurora - no problems that I am aware of justdigi January 14th, 2011, 07:37 AM Carrington basement carpark full, pumping hasn't started yet (developers own building and are slow to respond). Camelot Court fine, garden full of mud though. 53 Albert foyer full of mud, BWS bottle shop throwing everything out and being pumped out, Avis & Budget also being pumped out. Post Office & Coffee Club in AMS80 have mud on the floor. That's about as far as I walked from my apartment. beastjim January 14th, 2011, 07:55 AM BWS bottle shop throwing everything out and being pumped out It's only a little bit of mud. I can save it for them! Thanks for the updates guys. Fabian January 14th, 2011, 09:25 AM As mentioned in the 123 Albert Street thread, the basement was flooded with 30 000 litres of water according to ABC News. Fyver January 14th, 2011, 12:36 PM never mind, got my buildings mixed up. graceville January 14th, 2011, 01:20 PM All three Admiralty buildings have flooded carparks. See http://www.brisbane-apartment.com/2011/01/brisbane-floods.html djmajah January 14th, 2011, 01:26 PM And many more outside of the CBD. SL8 at West End: http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp329/djmajahbn/Brisbane%20Flood%202011/SL8MusgraveSt-WestEnd140111.jpg http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp329/djmajahbn/Brisbane%20Flood%202011/SL8MusgraveSt-WestEnd3140111.jpg nathandavid88 January 16th, 2011, 11:55 PM ^^ I'm guessing a lot of those new apartment complexes in West End have ended up in a similar situation. Not necessarily 'towers', but some are quite large developments. asprilla January 17th, 2011, 03:48 AM Admiralty Towers 1 3 levels of basement parking. B3 and B2 completely flooded to my knowledge. Part of B1 received 1m of water. Cleanup on B2 is proceeding today. Cleanup on B3 to start ???!!! Photos and updates on their website: http://www.admiraltyone.com.au/ I believe that power was shut down, and the building is still evacuated. Admiralty Towers 2 Please correct this if I've got any of this wrong. This building has 5 levels of basement car parks. 4 were completely flooded, 1 partially. I don't have any info on the current status of the cleanup. I believe that power was shut down, and the building is still evacuated. I'm pretty sure that neither of the Admiralty Towers buildings actually have sump pumps in the basement ! So they really can't deal with any kind of flooding whatsoever. Terrible planning. Admiralty Quays No info on this one. River Place 4 levels of basement car parks. B4 is below the river level and the flooding brought water through the vents. However there are 4 large pumps that removed the water as it came in. B4 level received between 1 and 4 inches of floodwater, and cleaning will be finished tomorrow. Power was not shut down. Macca-GC January 18th, 2011, 07:22 AM My girlfriend works at the Riverside Centre. Their two levels of basement car parks were flooded, including the Energex substation which is located in the bottom level. They've been told they'll be lucky to get in the building by next monday at the earliest. Thankfully, she's still getting paid! nismo33 January 18th, 2011, 08:00 AM Anyone know if Fridays are open this weekend? Fyver January 18th, 2011, 12:13 PM Rumour that the Stamford will be out of action for weeks still.. Fabian January 18th, 2011, 08:34 PM I watched A Current Affair last night and they spent some time with Fire crews involved in cleaning out the basement of the hotel. The smell is atrocious and they were removing ruined food etc. Also I have seen Youtube video of the entire carpark underwater. nathandavid88 January 18th, 2011, 11:57 PM Not a CBD tower as such but definitely an iconic CBD building, the Commissariat Store on William Street suffered considerable damage when a burst water main blew out part of the William St retaining wall (and a large portion of the footpath above), which then collided with the building, punching a hole through the lower rear wall of what is one of the city's oldest buildings. From the Royal Australian Historical Society: Historic Brisbane building damaged The Royal Historical Society of Queensland's headquarters, the 1828-9 Commissariat Store, was seriously damaged by the collapse of a retaining wall, undermined when a water main burst this week. The impact caused considerable damage to the ground floor, punching a hole in the wall large enough for a person to climb through, and shifting the entire building slightly towards the river. Structural engineers believe that the building is still structurally sound, but it will cause major disruption to the Society's normal activities and its Museum, and it will probably be at least a year until the building is functional again. The Commissariat Store is one of the oldest buildings in Brisbane. It was built in 1828-9 by convict labour during Captain Logan's term as Commandant of the Moreton Bay Penal Colony. Photos of the damage can be seen HERE (http://www.queenslandhistory.org.au/The%20damage%20to%20the%20RHSQ.pdf) It's a decent sized hole! I hope it can be repaired quickly, I quite like the Commissariat Store! Fabian January 19th, 2011, 02:19 AM I think this is the carpark for the Stamford Hotel which was flooded??? jbO30dSZVk0 Macca-GC January 20th, 2011, 02:09 AM Anyone know if Fridays are open this weekend? I doubt it. The whole building's got no power. Sherwoood January 20th, 2011, 11:45 AM Waterfront Place will be reopened on Monday morning, but not the basement carpark. JayT January 20th, 2011, 09:53 PM The car park at Coles New Farm is half open now. I parked there yesterday and did my first shop in ages. Let me tell you the SMELL is terrible. 38921111 January 21st, 2011, 01:42 AM can we make a list of the cbd office buildings that did not re-open on monday morning? I am told it was quite a few.. it is a bit of a worry!! office 175 eagle 167 eagle 145 eagle riverside / 123 eagle riparian / 77 eagle waterfront / 1 eagle cp2 / 66 eagle cp3 / 70 eagle brisbane club / 241 adelaide 260 queen am60 / 60 albert 62 albert ...others?? i think on charlotte, margaret and george st? SoulvisionQ1 January 21st, 2011, 08:17 AM Not to mention residential buildings... there are quite a few which aren't operating properly. I know from some friends that 120 Mary Street opposite Vision is uninhabitable due to damage to the substation. This isn't an isolated case apparently. BNE01 January 21st, 2011, 12:14 PM Apparently some of the larger accounting and solicitor firms have sent some of their staff down to Sydney until their buildings are up and running. Although I heard majority should be open for business from Monday. asdfg January 21st, 2011, 12:32 PM I moved into Oaks Festival Tower last week due to flooding in my apartment. I moved out yesterday but every evening they were broadcasting updates to all rooms through the speaker system. The latest when I moved out was that they had a second pump removing the water. I know I could hear it running all night. The upper level lifts were also off, so if you stayed anywhere between 15 and 41, you would have to get off at 14 and walk up. Luckily I got a room on 12. Macca-GC January 21st, 2011, 03:02 PM I know there are three QUT buildings which still aren't open. 128 Margaret Street had it's basement flooded, and S and Z blocks at the Gardens Point campus are still closed. Latest I've heard about the Riverside centre is that it might be open by next Friday. Apparently the basement has been pumped out, but they're now having communications issues. Shado January 22nd, 2011, 05:26 AM Quite a few places in Milton are still out, apparently Energy equipment was damaged, and when they finally went to turn it on last week, it died. At this stage they're hoping for Monday (though the same could have been said every day last week). Quite astonishing that we're almost going on two weeks of no power to some buildings :\ If it's still out Monday Energex will supply generators, but A/C will not be on, so it might get a little unpleasant. SoulvisionQ1 January 22nd, 2011, 11:58 AM Charlotte towers also has that same problem, some of the lifts were damaged so people have to get off at the 15th floor and walk up to higher apartments. asdfg January 23rd, 2011, 03:23 AM I moved into Festival on the Wednesday at the peak. When we were waiting on the lifts to take us up to our room the noise of the water flowing into the basement was incredible. The sound was coming up through the lift shafts to the foyer. It must have been a huge flow of water as it was as loud as a large waterfall. Power stayed on the whole time there though. I heard it was because unlike most towers in the area, the transformer (or whatever it is) is on the first floor, rather than in the basement, which is more common. The front doors were all sandbagged up, and entrance was routed through the garage and in the back door, past all of the stinking waste bins. Still, it was far better than my hot, powerless, TV-less, interweb-less, aircon-less and lift-less apartments. 38921111 January 23rd, 2011, 11:07 PM more.. 175 eagle 167 eagle 145 eagle riverside / 123 eagle riparian / 77 eagle waterfront / 1 eagle cp2 / 66 eagle cp3 / 70 eagle brisbane club / 241 adelaide 260 queen am60 / 60 albert 62 albert 300 queen 215 adelaide i heard that some along charlotte and margaret streets were affected? also up along george st like the neville boner building? can anyone confirm? nathandavid88 January 24th, 2011, 12:14 AM I do recall reading that the Neville Bonner building didn't open on Monday, but was only out for a day I believe. 38921111 January 24th, 2011, 03:12 AM 175 eagle 167 eagle 145 eagle riverside / 123 eagle riparian / 77 eagle waterfront / 1 eagle cp2 / 66 eagle cp3 / 70 eagle brisbane club / 241 adelaide 260 queen am60 / 42 albert 62 albert 300 queen 215 adelaide 370 queen neville bonner / 75 william 126 margaret blue tower / 12 creek what about gold tower (ex. amp place) / 10 eagle?? and some of the older buildings along eagle st? duke January 24th, 2011, 10:21 AM I do recall reading that the Neville Bonner building didn't open on Monday, but was only out for a day I believe. Neville Bonner building has been in darkness every night since the flood, including tonight. I think it is still in evacuation mode. BNE01 January 24th, 2011, 10:28 AM You will be happy to know that Waterfront Place, the Riverside Centre, Riparian, CP2 and CP3 were all back up and running today. I think majority of the other buildings in the City were also back in business. Macca-GC January 24th, 2011, 03:02 PM ^^really??? My girlfriend's office at the Riverside Centre is still evacuated. I know they got power back, but she's been told they're now having some telecommunications issues and they're hoping to be back by Thursday 38921111 January 24th, 2011, 11:10 PM so, another update. i am really surprised how many buildings are on this list 175 eagle 167 eagle 145 eagle riverside / 123 eagle riparian / 77 eagle waterfront / 1 eagle cp2 / 66 eagle cp3 / 70 eagle brisbane club / 241 adelaide 260 queen am60 / 42 albert 62 albert 300 queen 215 adelaide 370 queen neville bonner / 75 william 126 margaret blue tower / 12 creek 120 edward 123 albert (u/c but basement flooded) 111 eagle (u/c but basement flooded) Sherwoood January 25th, 2011, 10:31 AM I work in Waterfront Place (1 Eagle St) and we have been back since Monday. Just no carpark. I had a meeting in Riverside today (123 Eagle St), and it was ok (other than carpark and telephones). So I am not sure what your list is about, or how accurate it is. duke January 25th, 2011, 11:14 AM Neville Bonner building is lit up tonight. BNE01 January 25th, 2011, 11:51 AM ^^really??? My girlfriend's office at the Riverside Centre is still evacuated. I know they got power back, but she's been told they're now having some telecommunications issues and they're hoping to be back by Thursday Riverside Centre Flood update 2 - 23rd January 2011 Posted On - 23 Jan 2011 Further to our earlier advice, we are pleased to confirm that Riverside Centre office tower will be open for business to all staff from tomorrow. Works continue on the carpark, retail and other services and we shall keep you informed of the progress of these works on a regular basis. The car park and retail remain closed until further notice. We appreciate and once again thank you for your patience during this period. 38921111 January 26th, 2011, 01:11 AM I work in Waterfront Place (1 Eagle St) and we have been back since Monday. Just no carpark. I had a meeting in Riverside today (123 Eagle St), and it was ok (other than carpark and telephones). So I am not sure what your list is about, or how accurate it is. the list is buildings that weren't open and functioning as normal on monday 17/01/11, which is four days after the flood peaked. waterfront and riverside were both closed then. having most of the major office buildings in brisbane suffer damage is a bit of a worry. think of what all of the tenants do?? some of them haven't been in their offices for three weeks. that is a major business impact. Sherwoood January 26th, 2011, 04:44 AM Ah, now I understand your list. We were out of our office (Waterfront Place) for 8 and a half working days. It is interesting to see that many apartment buildings are still evacuated and have no power. Some of the body corporates and onsite managers seem to be quite hopeless at getting things back up and running. And the Stamford Plaza Hotel appears to be out of action for at least all of February from what someone in the hotel industry told me yesterday. Sebel Suites hotel is also out of action still -- and it is blocks from the river. duke January 26th, 2011, 12:33 PM From the Sebel website - http://www.mirvachotels.com/sebel-suites-brisbane "Due to the recent flooding and power outages in the Brisbane Central Business District, The Sebel Suites Brisbane is closed through and including 6 February 2011 and not able to accept any arrivals until 7 February 2011. Reservations cancelled due to flood activity disruptions for arrival through and including 6 February will incur no cancellation fee." They must have had major issues given that neither Festival Towers or Charlotte Towers were (to my knowledge) evacuated at any time. 38921111 January 27th, 2011, 06:28 AM 175 eagle 167 eagle 145 eagle riverside / 123 eagle riparian / 77 eagle waterfront / 1 eagle cp2 / 66 eagle cp3 / 70 eagle brisbane club / 241 adelaide 260 queen am60 / 42 albert 62 albert 300 queen 215 adelaide 370 queen neville bonner / 75 william 126 margaret blue tower / 12 creek 120 edward 241 adelaide 123 albert (u/c but basement flooded) 111 eagle (u/c but basement flooded) duke January 27th, 2011, 10:28 AM Apparently the huge amount of water pumped out of 123 Albert Street contributed significantly to the flooding of the basements of The Sebel and Festival Towers. 38921111 January 27th, 2011, 10:22 PM ^^^ i didn't even think the sebel *had* a basement?? the carpark looks to be in a podium above the ground http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=sebel+suites+brisbane&sll=-27.470933,153.023502&sspn=3.786566,7.124634&ie=UTF8&hq=sebel+suites+brisbane&hnear=&ll=-27.470872,153.027121&spn=0,0.006958&t=h&z=18&layer=c&cbll=-27.470814,153.027197&panoid=bN1lcBupZThbJJFNgXU4XA&cbp=12,169.16,,0,-20.67 |
