I was mildly reading something on African history when I came across the Benin Kingdom;the artifacts,cultures and civilization and I was impressed. Having the world largest earth which is in the Guiness book of records yet no a single tourism plan for the place is certainly unbeleivable.

i actually recognise one of those chiefs fromb the kings court when my cousin got married in benin a couple years ago.

this program came on tv some time ago i think there is are missing parts to the documentary.

there are a couple of things which are misinformation in this documentary. before the arrival of the british benin was already an empire that extended to as far as benin or togo. the british had already heard stories of how great benin was possibly centuries before they arrived there, which was way passed its golden age by then. the bronzes where being casted centuries before the portuguese arrived and have been linked to ife and the nok civilisations. there is also a pre-oba era where the kingdom was ruled by ogisos before a prince from ife became the first of a line of obas.

This goes as far as to show how colonialism took somethings away from us......If you live in the UK, you can watch the whole documentary on BBC iplayer....online

This is one of the areas the Nigerian govt. is very negligent, to put in place the mechanism to encourage tourism in places like Benin and other important historical sites across the country.
