Hey, I was wondering if any of you think that South Korea as a whole is considered to be a developed nation in your eyes?

For me, I certainly think it is a developed nation since its GDP, GDP Per Capita, and all of its industries are well developed and maintained.

The only thing that says "Korea is not a developed nation" is its GDP/capita. But... I said yes anyway because GDP/capita will soon reach the level of developed countries.

Just throwing some economic figures in Korea for the reference....;)

Korea's PPP per capita = $ 19,600 (2003)

( Equaling New Zealand and Spain. No.4 in Asia after Singapore, Hongkong and Japan. )

Korea's GDP per capita = $ 12,650 (2003) ( 22nd in OECD, not bad considering OECD is an organisation that comprises of all the developed nations in the world )

Korea's Total GDP is world's 11th largest, larger than Russia, India, Mexico and Brazil who are all at least twice larger than Korea in terms of population.

Not accurate, Korea's GDP is not bigger than mexican, that is tenth world economy, anyways Korea is a developed nation without any doubt.

Whoops, sorry. The last time I checked, Korea was actually ranked 10th in the world, Mexico being placed just one place below Korea. I might have mixed up Korea's place with Mexico's place. ( Although there's almost non-existent difference between them in terms of total GDP ) :)

GDP isn't the only thing that determines if the country is developed or not. Many developed countries vary greatly in GDP as well. Education, law, healthcare, economy, science and infrastructure are some of the things people should consider as well.

After seeing the commiesblock of Budapest and Prague, and those of Seoul (in picture only). I think that S Korea is rather develloped and has little to envy to us. (looking from here, I can't judge the exact situation in Korea cause I've never been by myself in Korea).
