These 16 Corinthian columns of the 2nd century BC belonged to a pagan temple (or maybe public baths); since the 4th century, they stand in front of the paleochristian Basilica of S. Lorenzo.

Until the beginning of the last century some houses were connected to the columns, separating them from the churc:

Is it just me or is Milan becoming a bit over-represented in these polls? Not every noteworthy building in that city is a masterpiece, surely...
