Eric Offereins January 20th, 2006, 10:53 PM Too bad that they simplified the shape of the buildin and took 20 m from the top, but still
I will be looking forward to this one. It will be an eyecatcher when you come from Coolsingel
Jelluh January 20th, 2006, 11:21 PM Very nice renders! Nice high towers and the kopblok should be build there with tower and all on the plan, very nice city-building.

Skyscrapercitizen February 9th, 2006, 10:49 PM Nice update Marin. A lot of construction in the city just started or will start soon. I think this Scheepmakerstoren is the only tower that will really rise during 2006.

bobdebouwer February 12th, 2006, 04:09 PM Markthal looking nice!!
Dr. Dubai February 12th, 2006, 04:47 PM Rotterdam is becoming a real Metropole!!!
That's correct. Within now and 2 years we got 4 160+ towers rising, and a lot of midrise (up to approximatically 140 m). We also got a lot of modern and stunning designed low rises going up. The street level entries are getting upgraded, so you can see that Rotterdam is becoming a metropole:)
Situation now compared to the situation within a few years, 5 tallest towers in Rotterdam:
1. Delftse Poort: 151 m.
2. Montevideo: 139 m.
3. Milleniumtoren: 135 m.
4. World Port Centre: 123 m.
5. Erasmus Medical Centre: 114 m.
Within a frew years:
1. Gedempte Zalmhaven: 165 m.
2. Maastoren: 164,75 m.
3. New Orleans: 160+ m.
4. Juffertoren: 155-165 m.
5. Delftse Poort: 151 m.
untitled February 13th, 2006, 11:58 PM I read about a tower near the swimming and recreationpark Tropicana in Rotterdam thats being build.
Does anyone know what tower this is and what its going to look like?
Thanks
untitled February 16th, 2006, 11:24 PM The big project of the building 'De Rotterdam' was bound to start late 2005, but this was cancelled because there was no tenant found.
The plan is now that the building will be made partially an office, 260 appartments, 260 hotelrooms, a cinema, shops, restaurants and parking space for 600 cars.
Source: Algemeen Dagblad, 15 february 2006
Skyscrapercitizen February 17th, 2006, 10:20 PM ^^
The plan was always like that, the only news is that MAB Real Estate will get help from OVG to find tenants for the building. They want to start late this year, let's hope they will...
untitled February 18th, 2006, 02:58 PM Yep lets hope so...
Liwwadden February 18th, 2006, 10:34 PM i've seen all these 14 pages now, and there is so much happening in Rotterdam, great! Only the building are not higher than 150 meter. Wouldn't it be great to have a 200m+ building, one that will stick out of all the orther building :D
Dr. Dubai March 2nd, 2006, 02:35 PM Great news!

Skyscrapercitizen March 2nd, 2006, 07:22 PM This is a massive devellopment.
Other news:
I made a calculation on the projects in the city center till 2010, and there are plans to built 4500 new homes in the city center alone in the next 4 years, good for 7000 new residents! Rotterdam will become dense!

Liwwadden June 2nd, 2006, 08:40 PM damn, Rotterdam is going up! en denso to! great!
I already said before, but where stays de 200+, woudn't it be great ..
Skyscrapercitizen June 2nd, 2006, 08:57 PM ^^
We only need one ambitious invester in a good economic time. Rdam can easily absorb a 200+ tower now, enough mass.
Biggest problem are the long procedures in the netherlands. This makes up a too big percentage of the total costs. :(
Khanabadosh June 2nd, 2006, 09:06 PM Urban block Calypso is absolutely beutiful.
Edwin_kok86 June 2nd, 2006, 09:44 PM A nother problem is the foundation of the builduing. To build a building some 200 meters you will need to go at least 60 meters into the ground. Think about the costs and the machinery to do that.
Skyscrapercitizen June 13th, 2006, 10:23 PM Great news for all Rotterdam lovers here, I'll move to Rotterdam city in a few weeks, finally. The I can make many more updates myself by bike.
Today, I made this one of the already slender scheepmakerstoren, to become about 90meters, but amazig design!

SkyBridge July 3rd, 2006, 07:45 PM Rotterdam is booming, and 2007 (also Year of Architecture here in Rotterdam) will be amazing. This will be under construction next year:
Salmpoort 172m (residential)
Maastoren I 165m (office)
New Orleans 158m (residential)
De Lange Juffer 145m (residential)
De Rotterdam 136m (residential/office)
The Red Apple 128m (residential/office) *
De Knick Van Zuid 120m (residential)
Erasmus MC Expansion Dijkzicht 120m (hospital/office)
Maastoren II 108m (office)
Oosterbaken 99m (residential) *
Scheepmakerstoren 89m (short stay) *
Cité I 85m (residential) *
UWV 77m (office) *
Statendam 73m (residential) *
Cité II 72m (residential) *
Wijnhaeve 71m (residential) *
Calypso 70m (residential block)
* = already U/C
Not bad for a European city with only 600,000 inhabitants I'd say!
Dr. Dubai July 3rd, 2006, 08:25 PM Where did you got your sources for "de lange juffer"?
And the rest of the list is indeed impressive. But I wouldn't be suprised if some of the projects turn into delay. On the other hand there will probably be anounced some more spectecular projects for the coming years:)
SkyBridge July 3rd, 2006, 08:34 PM On the official website it says 'in development 2006', and I've heard from unofficial sources that the construction starts mid 2007 to late 2007.

SkyBridge July 3rd, 2006, 08:46 PM Well, I have a lot of faith in HD Projectrealisatie - they've done some amazing things so far! And the fact that this tower has gone from 90m to 145m (originally even to 165, but that wasn't possible on this location) proves that they have faith in this tower as well. I hope we'll get some better impressions later this year.

Skyscrapercitizen September 9th, 2006, 01:06 PM ^^
Rem Koolhaas designed the De Rotterdam building on the Wilhelminapier. You can see a part in post #302.
I saw the last planning, and they want to start construction on this in september 2007. That's the time procedures take in the netherlands in 21st century, even when the tower has occupancy...

Dr. Dubai November 20th, 2006, 01:38 PM almost all the buildings have american names, where is the origionality and haveing Dutch names
That's because this part of Rotterdam was a harbor a long time ago. The buildings have the same name as the old package houses which stood there.
And btw, we have lots of Dutch names for skyscrapers: Delftse Poort, Coopvaert, Wijnhaeve, Scheepmakerstoren, Lange Juffer, etc.

Skyscrapercitizen February 4th, 2007, 05:29 PM In the very heart of the city there is a masterplan for redevellopment. The area is outdated and is not good enough to be the very heart of a modern big city.
Here some renderings of the masterplan. This is just a first step to come to an all round plan for the area.
Tallest tower is 140 meters, the lowest towers are 70 meters tall. The towers are all residential, 900 appartments. In the first floors there will be shopping, leisure, small offices, amenities and parking underground.

Dr. Dubai May 24th, 2007, 01:15 PM Nathanaelll, we understand you're happy with the progress in Rotterdam, but there's no need to post these pictures^ in all the Rotterdam topics:)

ZZ-II June 17th, 2007, 01:43 PM Rotterdam gets a wonderful skyline i think
GeneratorNL June 17th, 2007, 02:15 PM ^^ Rotterdam already has a great skyline. But you're right: it will become better and better :) .
julesstoop June 19th, 2007, 11:37 PM Ever inching closer to thar sorta magical 200 meter boundary... :)
I'm really hoping for a bold proposal in the next few years. Something that really sets a new benchmark for the city. The skyline is now broad and dense enough - thus visually ready - for a leap upwards towards 220 or maybe even 250 meters, me thinks.
skytrax June 26th, 2007, 05:29 PM The construction of New Orleans building is just takeoff.
