View Full Version : Urban Amusement Parks
shivtim September 1st, 2004, 10:10 AM I've always been a fan of the way an amusment park in or near a downtown area looks. What do you guys think?
(note, these aren't my pics, I found them online)

And it may not be in a downtown, but these coasters are so massive they almost count as skyscrapers themselves. Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio.

I know there are quite a few more, especially small ones throughout Japan.

Zimoune September 1st, 2004, 12:54 PM i love Laqua in Tokyo, wish to have chance to see it soon!!!
Steven77571 September 2nd, 2004, 02:00 AM I feel bad for the people of Denver. Their planners could have done better than that! Why would someone put a theme park across the street from the CBD? It's like Phoenix did with the airport next to downtown, it doesn't make any sense at all.
shivtim September 2nd, 2004, 02:17 AM actually, the new Elitch Gardens in Denver was built on the site of an old railway yard, completely rejuvinating that area of downtown.
DrJoe September 2nd, 2004, 02:58 AM How about one in the middle of super sprawl.
This is Canada's Wonderland near Toronto.

Nick September 2nd, 2004, 10:00 AM Here is a cool one.
This is a shot of Expoland.Osaka's largest rolloercoaster park. There are 2 others in the city but this one is by far the biggest. There are over 9 different coasters.
This is the best shot I can find that shows a bit of urbaness to it.
Here you can see the Osaka monorail wind its way alongside the park. The monorail connects Osaka domestic airport to northeastern suburbs of the city.
