Jaipur, also popularly known as the Pink City, is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Rajasthan.
During the British rule in India, Jaipur was the capital of the princely state of Jaipur. Founded on 18 November 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber, the city today has a population of more than 3.2 million.
Jaipur is the first planned city of India, located in the semi-desert lands of Rajasthan. The city which once had been the capital of the royalty now is the capital city of Rajasthan. The very structure of Jaipur resembles the taste of the Rajputs and the Royal families. At present, Jaipur is a major business center with all requisites of a metropolitan city.
The city is remarkable among pre-modern Indian cities for the width and regularity of its streets which are laid out into six sectors separated by broad streets 111 ft (34 m) wide. The urban quarters are further divided by networks of gridded streets. Five quarters wrap around the east, south, and west sides of a central palace quarter, with a sixth quarter immediately to the east. The Palace quarter encloses a sprawling palace complex, (Hawa Mahal), formal gardens, and a small lake. Nahargarh Fort, which was the residence of the King Sawai Jai Singh II, crowns the hill in the northwest corner of the old city. The observatory, Jantar Mantar, is one of the World Heritage Sites. Jaipur is a popular tourist destination in Rajasthan and India.

जयपुर जिसे गुलाबी नगरी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है, भारत में राजस्थान राज्य की राजधानी है। यह जयपुर नाम से प्रसिद्ध प्राचीन रजवाड़े की भी राजधानी रहा है। इस शहर की स्थापना १७२८ में आंबेर के महाराजा जयसिंह द्वितीय द्वारा की गयी थी। आज भी यहां के महाराजा महाराज भवानी सिंह (जन्म:१९३१) हैं। जयपुर अपनी समृद्ध परंपरा, संस्कृति और ऐतिहासिक महत्व के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। यह शहर तीन ओर से अरावली पर्वतमाला से घिरा हुआ है।जयपुर शहर की पहचान यहाँ के महलों और पुराने घरों में लगे गुलाबी धौलपुरी पत्थरों से होती है जो यहाँ के स्थापत्य की खूबी है। १८७६ में तत्कालीन महाराज सवाई मानसिंह ने इंग्लैंड की महारानी एलिज़ाबेथ प्रिंस ऑफ वेल्स युवराज अल्बर्ट के स्वागत में पूरे शहर को गुलाबी रंग से आच्छादित करवा दिया था। तभी से शहर का नाम गुलाबी नगरी पड़ा है।
जयपुर को आधुनिक शहरी योजनाकारों द्वारा सबसे नियोजित और व्यवस्थित शहरों में से गिना जाता है। शहर के वास्तुकार मिर्जा इस्माइल का नाम आज भी प्रसिद्ध है।१९वीं सदी में इस शहर का विस्तार शुरु हुआ तब इसकी जनसंख्या १,६०,००० थी जो अब बढ़ कर २००१ के आंकड़ों के अनुसार २३,३४,३१९ हो चुकी है।

Interesting to know that you are so ashamed of Jaipur that you cannot bear to post picture from inside the city!

Ask any Jaipurwala the pictures posted in this thread are as much of Jaipur as the inner city is. So let's not speak without proper knowledge. Come out of your shell and realise that 3.2 million people don't just live in the old walled city.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Many similarities between the two cities.

One reason could be that these two cities had one thing in common -- Sir Mirza Ismail who was the Diwan of Mysore in the 20s and 30s and the Prime Minister of Jaipur in the 40s. A great visionary, he probably made great contributions towards the development of these two cities.

Jaipur is the first planned city of India and was designed by a man called Vidhyadhar. There is the Vidhyadhar nagar, Vidhyadhar Gardens named after him as well. So these two have shaped Jaipur massively.

Plus the FLYOVER from where the pics is taken from is an example of poor planning by JDA....it has actually made that road mess as hardly anone over their uses that flyover....it just serve people who want to go to Sindhi Camp from the railway station or vice versa...

The project i am talking is of Chokhi Dhani group & is located on ajmer road(going from new sanaganer rd to ajmer rd). For reference u can visit Chokhi dhani site with project name(Corporate towers). U can also see Top view images of the project through google earth or wikimapia which may be ready by now. And believe my friend this project was also as fantastic as WTP in looks. Kindly go through the info i provided

This street has all the necessary infrastructure to cater more buildings like this on both sides. its close to airport, railway station, major hospitals, major shopping areas, major tourist areas, well connected road and flyover network.
on the same line they have big hospitals etc as well. hopefully someday it will be pride of jaipur

This should somehow be retained in new buildings also rather than making a glass-filled carbon-copy of buildings found in other cities. Only then, I believe the cities soul will be retained just like the modern buildings found in Trivandrum and Kochi, which infuse traditional Kerala styles into their buildings
