But Morocco isn't a constitutional monarchy, right?

You're talking with someone who lives in USA, who doesn't know what is happening in his country, who, the only informations he has about his country get them from Aljazeera! Let me tell you something, and I am not illiterate or ignorant, the king is popular, moroccans love him and respect the work he'd done over the past 10 years, and still doing... We may have a problem with our government but we chose them, we voted for them so we only have to wait for the next election and not make the same mistakes.

^^ SO SO true. :ohno:

First of all, I have mentioned how much I hate the US Administration, how much I hate them from the bottom of my heart for everything they've been doing to Egypt for 30 years now.

But now, the US has a chance to turn around. Up until the past few days, there was little Anti-American sentiment amongst Egyptians. However from interviews, Ant-American sentiment is growing very quickly amongst the masses, as they become more informed about the US's continued support of Mubarak.

I believe, that if the US just drops their support for Mubarak NOW, and truly works for the interests of the Egyptian people. Egyptians will respect this, and there will not be the Anti-American sentiment that is growing.

Not that I care about American interests (I don't care about ANY of their interests, I care about our people's only, regardless of the outcome), but doing this, would work in BOTH our interests. A transition, into a moderate, secular, democratic government, that would maintain stability in the region, while working truly for the interests of the Egyptian people.

Corrupt monarchy? Oo loool

First of all, it's always funny to read people who don't know anything about our country, giving themeselves the right to criticize the current state of Morocco despite knowing nada about it!

Secondo, Morocco was/is gonna stay a kingdom, we are talking about centuries and a culture! It's a not just a political choice, it's cultural, moroccan!

Corruption is a national problem, and we are aware of it and trying to fight it! The king is doing his best and we, as moroccan, we do appreciate it and appreciate the work he had done over the past 10 years! It may be hard for you to believe or understand, but trust me, morocco is an Allaouite kingdom and will remain one.

Protestors demonstrate in front of Egyptian embassy in Lebanon
January 30, 2011

http://nowlebanon.com/Library/Images/MainPagePictures/sec-forces-behinfpic-main.jpg

More than 200 people rallied outside the Egyptian Embassy in Beirut on Sunday, calling for the resignation of embattled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak as protests in Egypt raged for a sixth straight day.

"Mubarak is an Israeli puppet," and "Gamal, tell your father that the Egyptian people hate him," protestors chanted during the student-led demonstration in Beirut.

They held up Egyptian and Tunisian flags as well as photos of late Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser.

"Egypt is free and not an Arab kingdom," banners read, as well as "Who is responsible for the blood of the martyrs among protesters?"

Egyptians and Tunisians in Lebanon also joined the protest which unfolded amid a sizable police presence.

Tunisians say it was their revolt against authoritarian ruler Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali earlier in January that inspired the massive protest movement against Mubarak in Egypt.

By the way I agree with you. We definitely need some shaking up in Morocco as well. Maybe not the point of a regime change but at least now the people won't be afraid to speak up and the leaders will be afraid of their people.

True , but the only major difference between the 1919 Revolution and 2011 Revolution is that in 1919 they never asked for the king to step down , today , we are asking not only to oust the dictator but to prosecute him as well .

The resistance to Mubarak in Egypt on the other hand was building up in the last years in an obvious way...So really, you never know what happen in Morocco next. I hope our government gets the message though and starts respecting and providing for the people.

In any case, maybe we should go back to the topic in hand. This is about Egypt

The job of the Arab potentates such as Morocco and Saudi Arabia will be what it has always been – to "manage" their people, to control them, to keep the lid on, to love the West and to hate Iran. But now its Arab world's Berlin moment and its happening

IF I can already speak about the futur after mubarak. do you imagine how the media industry in egypt play an important role in the Arab world, once they are free to say all about the sensitive subjects.

I heard that two planes came from israel to supply the stock of the security forces with tear-bombs and so on.

Israel really has no shame.

For the same reasom we used to say "Polish communist party has most competent members in the world; some of them were 3-4 times heads of DIFFERENT departments

Here. :)EU And US will support ANY stable government which secures their economical and political interests. I cannot understand what is so surprising about these countries if they already support dozens of more bloody regimes than those in Tunisia or Egypt. They cooperate with China after all, don't they? :dunno:

They could only change their policy if the Arab revolutions got big support in western societies, but most ppl do not believe it will end with the real democratic change, so there's more curiousity than support...
So do not count for US or EU support. The future is in your hands only.

And about Israel... There's nothing surprising at all. If they saw a real chance for El Baradei to become a new Egyptian president and secure/keep good relations with Israel, they could support the revolution, otherwise it's just military danger (especially that MB and Hamas risen their involvement into the situation. Hamas having big infualnce in the jey Arab state in the region is something inacceptable for Israel. It wouldn't be the case if support to Hamas from Egyptian people were not so high.

And everyone saying about the Muslim democracy, please search the dictionary for the entry "oxymoron" ;)
That's why I love the speach of the bearded guy in the clip posted here few times (I've heard that manifestants oppose every MB slogans about introducing of the religious state etc. which shows they've learnt from other failed revolutions)
You may accuse me for my Eurocentrism, but democracy is the only political system worth dying for...

No way he could stay. So its impossible to say that he will likely become like Iran since Iran had a strong army and police to stop the protest.I can see some differences between Iranian and Egyptian protests.
1. Iranian ones were more peaceful and there were many women and older ppl involved, while the Egyptian is more forceful and I cannot see any girl on the pics/vids.
2. I think Iranian secret & security service is more numerous and had more "practise" during the years of regime, while the Egyptian was rather involved with fighting political opposition, especially the one using terror acts as mean of political struggle

Let's hope not even one drop of blood will be shed for vain. I keep my fingers crossed for a successful finish of the people's revolution! :okay:

the truth, of course, is that the Arab world is so dysfunctional, sclerotic, corrupt, humiliated and ruthless – and remember that Mr Ben Ali was calling Tunisian protesters "terrorists" only last week – and so totally incapable of any social or political progress, that the chances of a series of working democracies emerging from the chaos of the Middle East stand at around zero per cent.

The job of the Arab potentates such as Mubarak, Abdullah, Hassan etc will be what it has always been – to "manage" their people, to control them, to keep the lid on, to love the West and to hate Iran.

I hope Egyptians will sort this FIRAUN by Friday next week

‘Pharaoh’ and his half-Welsh wife are worth £25 billion

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/01/29/article-0-0CF66B25000005DC-90_306x423.jpg

Dubbed ‘the Pharaoh’ for his 30-year iron rule, President Hosni Mubarak is said to have amassed a fortune of £25 billion for his family.
Mubarak, 82, his half-Welsh wife Suzanne and sons Gamal and Alaa are seen in Egypt as symbols of nepotism and corruption with properties and business interests worldwide, including London.

The First Lady keeps a firm grip on Egypt’s leading social circles and is often pictured at diplomatic and charity events in stylish outfits alongside dignitaries’ wives including Carla Bruni.

Her charity donations total millions of pounds a year, though rumours have swirled that some of this money has found its way into her bank accounts. As her profile in the state-controlled media has soared, critics have likened her to French Queen Marie-Antoinette.
Critics say the closest their sons have got to ordinary Egyptians was when they were driven past them in limousines. Both sons have been linked to arms-dealing.

Mubarak has survived at least six assassination attempts and fears have also been growing that he plans to groom the more political Gamal to inherit the throne.

Will first family flee to London (and Selfridges)?

When a Cairo newspaper claimed on Tuesday that members of President Mubarak’s family had fled, speculation spread that they were on their way to Britain.

The newspaper reported that Gamal Mubarak, the president’s son and possible successor, had boarded a private jet bound for London, taking his family and 97 pieces of luggage with him.

Egyptian baggage handlers at Heathrow were also quoted as saying that they had seen President Mubarak’s wife Suzanne, who is half-Welsh and holds a British passport, at the airport.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/01/29/article-0-0CF66B31000005DC-366_634x536.jpg
UK links: Gamal Mubarak (left), son of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, and his wife Khadiga have previously lived in west London (below)

Though the claims were denied by Egyptian diplomats in London, there have since been other apparent sightings, with one member of the public claiming on an internet site that she had seen Mrs Mubarak shopping in Selfridges in Oxford Street.

The Foreign Office would not confirm last night whether Mrs Mubarak and her sons Gamal and Alaa had British passports.

The family, who have relatives in Britain, are regular visitors and Gamal, 47, once lived and worked in London, initially for Bank of America before, in 1996, he set up his own investment vehicle, Medinvest Associates.

He lived in a five-storey Georgian townhouse in Knightsbridge, on the same street as the five-star Berkeley Hotel and a stone’s throw from Hyde Park. The most recent similar property to sell on the street went for £5.59 million.

The offices of Medinvest Associates are based a five-minute walk away, above expensive boutiques in the centre of Knightsbridge.

Suzanne Mubarak was born in Upper Egypt in 1941, but her mother Lily May Palmer was a nurse from Pontypridd, Wales, who married an Egyptian paediatrician, Saleh Sabet in 1934.

Mobarak is trying to make the protests die down on their own in time when people become irritated by the restlessness. Therefore you should not let them die down! bring out as many people on the streets as you can! A message from Hummus nation to Cushari nation!

@AlMasryAlYoum_E: Protesters give army deadline to choose sides http://ow.ly/3NjvI #Jan25 #Egypt

This is great news, Mubarak is screwed and the army knows this. There is no way they'll choose his side. IsA we will get a real regime soon. :)

The next friday is known as the day of revolution where Thousands of thousands of Egyptian will be heading to the Presidential Palace in Heliopolis. Mobarak have no choice than to leave the country.

Its good Egyptians are mostly from the same tribe, language and culture. If this was in Ethiopia the minority stuffed army will drive tanks on the people. Although sameness doesn't always work as seen in Somalia.

You know... The most amazing thing about Egypt will remain forever is the Unity. There is no conflict between Copts and Muslims and the latest week fotage have proved how the regime was to be accused for the so-called ''Fitna''.

I believe Hosny Mobarak is trying to find a country where he could be exiled. But it seem that none wants to give him the passport. The only option for him would be to repare what he did. He already tried by talkng with the oppositions, inch by inch giving some yard in Egypt with internet accessbility and more. He have no time, actually, people have given a deadline to the army. Or they be with us or against, likely to be with us. Tuesday to Friday will be a historic day for us.

Some news guys , that confirms what we already know :

Egyptians turn out massively to donate blood

The blood bank at Kasr Al-Eini hospital, a few hundred meters from downtown Cairo's Tahrir Square, where demonstrations continued into their sixth consecutive day, was overflowing with blood donors. The hospital lobby turned into a makeshift donation room in which 10 beds were laid out. All were occupied.

For Yasser Yehya, the medical secretary in charge of the blood bank, the turnout was amazing--and urgently needed.

“We’ve had serious shortages in the past couple of days. We’ve been admitting increasing numbers since yesterday. Especially after the events by the Ministry of Interior, the number climbed rapidly. Add to this that we’re a national center and we actually send blood to other hospitals and blood banks--we’re really overstretched”.

Asked whether blood donations were accepted in other hospitals across for people wishing to donate closer to home, Yehya said he was only aware of the two Kasr Al-Eini hospitals.

“Some people who came earlier are telling me they went to the central blood bank in Ramses and found no one there. I guess it’s part of the old regime--the regime that has fallen,” he said.

"We are unable to give an accurate estimation of the number of patients here--aside from the dead, there are those whom we treat and discharge on the spot, then the injured we admit, and among those there are many in a critical condition… we simply cannot keep track of the numbers,” said Yehya.

Kamal Mohamed, 39, looked incredulous when asked him why was there. “They need blood. We’re here. Simple as that. I heard a call for blood donations on television, so I came”.

Another patient came over to Yehya’s desk, says he saw a woman fainting outside, and asks whether donating is risky. “Absolutely not," Yehya replied.

"It’s perfectly safe and very few people experience any discomfort, and those are usually very worried first timers--they’re just very worried, that’s all.”

He went on to explain the donation process: “People are first subjected to a few tests to determine whether they're fit to donate. Then the blood itself is subjected to a number of tests to ensure it's safe to use. And it all takes about a day to process."

“I wish people knew how incredibly important it is for us that they donate blood," he continued. "I know they’d come out in far greater numbers. It takes really little effort, it’s perfectly safe, they get free medical tests, and most important, it saves lives.”

Yeah, that was in the early '90s, just after the fall of communism, but the miners themselves weren't paid, they were just manipulated by the then president.

Anyway, looking at some pictures from Egypt I'm reminded of the Romanian Revolution of 1989. Hopefully this will be over soon.

Google and Twitter launch service enabling Egyptians to tweet by phone
Voice-to-tweet software allows citizens to send news from Egypt despite internet blackout

Google and Twitter have launched a service to allow people in Egypt to send Twitter messages by leaving a voicemail on a specific number after the last internet service provider in the country saw its access cut off late on Monday.

The new service, which has been created by co-ordination between the two internet companies, uses Google's speech-to-text recognition service to automatically translate a message left on the number, which will be sent out on Twitter with the "#egypt" hashtag.

Ujwal Singh, co-founder of SayNow and Abdel Karim Mardini, Google's product manager for the Middle East and north Africa, said in a blog post that "over the weekend we came up with the idea of a speak-to-tweet service – the ability for anyone to tweet using just a voice connection ... We hope that this will go some way to helping people in Egypt stay connected at this very difficult time."

Google listed three phone numbers for people to call to use the service. They are: +16504194196; +390662207294; and +97316199855.

No internet connection is required. That will be important for users in Egypt after Noor Group, which had been the last internet service provider connecting to the outside world, went dark late on Monday. It had remained online after the country's four main internet providers – Link Egypt, Vodafone/Raya, Telecom Egypt and Etisalat Misr – abruptly stopped shuttling internet traffic into and out of the country last Friday.

At about 11pm local time Monday, the Noor Group became unreachable, said James Cowie, chief technology officer of Renesys, a security firm based in Manchester, New Hampshire, which monitors huge directories of "routes", or set paths that define how web traffic moves from one place to another.

The Noor Group's routes have disappeared, he said.

Cowie said engineers at the Noor Group and other service providers could quickly shut down the internet by logging on to certain computers and changing a configuration file. The original blackout on Friday took just 20 minutes to fully go into effect, he said. However it is not clear whether the Noor Group's disconnection was planned or accidental.

Mobile phone service was restored in Egypt on Saturday, but text messaging services have been disrupted during the continuing protests.

xAbd0o, what exactly is the purpose of that picture you posted? Is it from Egypt? I really don't see a link between being worried about Egypt becoming a second Iran and supporting that.

Some people are worried that the Muslim Brotherhood might profit a lot from the current events, that's all. You don't even have to look at Iran or Muslim extremists to see how some people can take advantage of a regime change... you have examples of milder cases in Eastern Europe, where for years we had some type of reformed commies in power.

That being said, I fully support the people or Egypt for what this can lead to, which is true democracy.
