I hope all of these will be preserved and kept well maintained. Well, they prolly will :)

Maybe we can move this thread to the "Architecture and Urban Facilities" forum and keep adding to it?

Many buildings in Chinatown & Bang Lampu areas are worth preserving. But they must relocate those air condition units and get rid of the overhead powerlines!!

i hate those plastic covers all over, what are they hiding?? :S

Jo
December 21st, 2004, 12:47 PM
They seem quite efficient in hiding the shop fronts ;)

Look at the first of the two pictures. It's not uber-clean but damn charming IMO, a pleasant place to stroll around in and explore. If there are no sellers on the sidewalks those awnings are not really needed I guess. In any case, they could look a lot better (http://images.google.com/images?q=awning&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&sa=N&tab=wi)

Usually those cover are used to be obstacle the sunlight shining into the shop to keep them cooler in the morning or afternoon

Sometime in prevention to raining indeed

Ratchamnoen Ave definitely has the potential to become a nice boulevard like the ChampElysee. I think they should introduce more restaurants, cafes area with 'alfresco dining' (mixing with office uses above ground floor) to make the street more lively. They could also repaint some facades of those old buildings.

Again it makes me a little angry how such beautiful buildings are spoiled by badly designed signs, dirty parasols, overhead cables and aircon units (just put them behind the house)
They could take a hint from Blue Elephant, it doesn't have to be more expensive to do it right, apart from putting the cables underground :)

It's quite common phenomenon in against to the old-community where they're neglected from the environmental and city planning on the late of 20 century :)
