You don't hear this term often anymore, but which cities (or towns) are the seats of the Regional Councils (some over the years renamed 'Environment' Such and Such, ie Environment Canterbury, Environment Southland).

Wiki lists some but not others, if someone could fill in the blanks?

Northland:

Local government on the islands, uniquely within New Zealand, involves a council established by its own Act of Parliament, the (Chatham Islands Council Act 1995). The Chatham Islands Council operates as a district council with regional council functions, making it in effect a unitary authority but with not quite as many responsibilities as the others. Some Regional Council functions are being administered by Environment Canterbury, the Canterbury Regional Council.

Most government departments service the Chathams as part of their Wellington district set ups while health care is through Hawkes Bay District Health Board...
