Phra Thi Nang Vimanmek, located behind Bangkok's National Assembly on Uthong Nai Road, is considered to be the world's largest building made entirely of golden teak. Vimanmek, meaning 'Palace of the Clouds' was originally built in 1868 as a summer house on Si Chang Island and moved to its present site in 1910. The palace was closed in 1935 and reopened in 1982 to coincide with the Rattanakosin bicentennial.

The three-storey wooden palace has 81 rooms, halls and ante-rooms, excluding terraces and verandahs. Vimanmek served as King Rama V's residence at the turn of the century and still contains many of his personal effects, antiques and works of art.

Near the entrance to Vimanmek Palace is the Royal Carriage Museum where 13 royal horse-drawn carriages from the reign of King Rama V are housed.

really Blabby??? I always thought that the Todaiji Temple in Nara, Japan is the World's Largest Wooden structure? The guides last year always quoted this to me when I visited. It was originally built in 745 C.E. by the Japanese Emperor, but was re-built in 1790 C.E. at only two-thirds its original size, but is still considered the largest wooden structure. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v417/speedracer7/Todaiji.jpg

The old Parliament Building in Welllington is the SECOND largest wooden building (largest in the Southern Hemisphere), right???

C.E.= Common Era

before people say A.D.= Ano Domini (Latin language)= Year of Our Lord (Birthday of Jesus Christ)

But "A.D." only for Christian people.....and we use the same year counting system around the world, so they change from "A.D." to "C.E." now everyone can use without referring to religion

In Thailand we use B.E.= Buddhist Era = Year of the death of Buddha which is 543 years earlier than the birthday of Christ.

Therefore, 2547 B.E. = 2004 A.D. = 2004 C.E. :)

These decorations were done in a Malay (or was it Persian) style, right? I remember reading about how Thailand loves to incorporate different architectural styles, especially in Bang Pa-in palace which includes Chinese, European, Thai, and other styles.

I think I read somewhere it was designed in venetian style. I could remember wrong though.
