ex0dus1985 February 1st, 2011, 02:31 AM Looks really promising - has anyone got any updates on the demolition of the existing building? ABC - I know you took the photo in your post a couple of weeks ago.
It's probably one of the largest buildings so far demolished in the CBD.
Cristovão471 February 1st, 2011, 02:39 AM Oh good, i'm glad they're replacing that eyesore.

Nothing major yet.. just a bit of prep....
Canberra Raiders February 1st, 2011, 07:36 AM A lot of all glass style buildings popping up in the city. They all look schmick too!
captainCanberra February 1st, 2011, 09:59 AM oh that rooftop pool is so awesome
AndyGM February 2nd, 2011, 01:01 AM If the current level of apartment building keeps up then Canberra will be a very different place in ten years time.
New apartments and townhouses outnumber separate houses by quite a large margin at the moment and it doesn't look like slowing up.
abc February 2nd, 2011, 03:18 AM Yeah... so many apartments.. the REX hotel on Northbourne started their 12 level job this week as well..
ross_the_man February 3rd, 2011, 11:49 AM Wow, this looks really good actually. I bet they're expensive apartments :(. There are a couple of buildings to be demolished in the city. Anyone know when the construction of the building will take place?
abc May 7th, 2011, 09:05 AM Demo underway...

ross_the_man May 7th, 2011, 02:30 PM Is it all going to come down at once? I wanna see!
ex0dus1985 May 8th, 2011, 11:25 AM I think they'll lift some small excavators onto the roof of the building and bring it down floor by floor, it's a pretty boring process compared to an implosion or wrecking ball!

AndyGM October 16th, 2012, 12:44 AM This is my favorite building going up in Canberra. Glassy and bulky without being a plain box.
Platypus October 16th, 2012, 09:13 PM It looks great. I just wish they hadn't called it 'Manhattan' apts. *cringe*
AndyGM October 17th, 2012, 04:44 AM I think you'll find that pretty much every Australian city has an apartment complex called 'Manhattan aprtments'. My guess is that pretty much every major city overseas would have one too.
Ordex October 17th, 2012, 09:03 AM looks great! anyone know how many levels it is?
Timbob October 18th, 2012, 05:26 AM looks great! anyone know how many levels it is?
It's 20 floors all up - 2 basement, ground floor, mezzanine and 16 upper levels.
fozzy October 20th, 2012, 09:03 PM Great looking building "loving the curved facade" :)
Pohm1 January 3rd, 2013, 09:15 AM It's going to be 16 levels, I have a 2x2 on the tenth.
AndyGM, if you are passing again, any chance of another photo? I'm interested to follow development as I have recently moved overseas.
Cheers

AndyGM January 3rd, 2013, 02:14 PM I don't work in Civic any more which makes it harder, but I'll see what I can do.
Timbob January 7th, 2013, 10:28 AM This is what it looked like last Wednesday (2 Jan):

abc March 15th, 2013, 06:23 AM Cranes come down this weekend.
AndyGM May 13th, 2013, 04:28 AM http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/o740/andydmcclure/2013-05-12_09-37-19_553_zpsdfa29cfc.jpg (http://s1340.photobucket.com/user/andydmcclure/media/2013-05-12_09-37-19_553_zpsdfa29cfc.jpg.html)
Nearly complete.
This is actually a really impressive building from street level.
Scrawny May 13th, 2013, 08:24 AM Wow that looks awesome. What an excellent bar to set for apartments in the city.
AndyGM May 13th, 2013, 08:36 AM Yeah this and New Acton have really set the bar high.
Unfortunately once this is done there won't be much happening in Civic. There are plenty of approved projects but I think they are on-hold until after the election.
There are quite a number of 5-10 level projects in Braddon though so at least density near the city will still be improving.
Platypus May 13th, 2013, 11:36 AM It's a great looking building except that they have put this naff wire mesh type thingy right across the facade. Such a shame. it spoils the whole appearance of the building.
Scrawny May 14th, 2013, 02:44 AM What do you mean. Pics please.
AndyGM May 14th, 2013, 03:51 AM You can see it in the pic by Timbob above.
Didn't look to closely when I went past but I think it is carparking.
Scrawny May 14th, 2013, 04:56 AM Oh I see. Yep I think you're right.
Timbob May 21st, 2013, 01:10 AM Here's an updated photo (20 May 2013)
https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/970264_10152887865665601_1560994487_n.jpg
The screened levels are carparking - there are two levels of (basement) carpark below ground, and two levels above ground.
Completion is scheduled for October 2013.
Scrawny May 21st, 2013, 02:43 AM Big thumbs up for this one. Will be interested to see it in the flesh.
