Jongno-gu is the name of the area where Seoul's first downtown
is located, on the north shore of the Han river.
Here's how it looks like from above:

During the weekdays, the streets are filled with
middle-aged professionals. As the night progresses, they make
way for a younger crowd who roam through the lively small
streets filled with bars, restaurants, and norebangs. Very
popular throughout Korea, norebangs are small private karaokes:
i.e. a music room rentable by-the-hour which can hold 5-15
people or so (in Korean, nore=sing, bang=room).

Here's how going out in Jongno feels!:

Great ambiance, isn't it?

You can experience it first hand every evening monday to sunday
from 7 pm till the late night at the Jongno-3-ga subway stop.

Hope you liked roaming through Jungno with me.

cheers, everyone.

I always wondered if Korean were Karaoke adict. Well, I got the answer. I also wondered how is the nightlife. Do you have café/bar open un to 2am and night club up to 5am? Are there any "after" (some people who konw the night club employed stay a bit after the closing time).

Yes, some establishments stay open till quite late, but it depends on the place. Generally, the bars and coffee shops close between midnight and 2am. As for the nightclubs, the (very) few I visited stayed opened till dawn..

yeah, this is a funny thing.. In roman characters it's jongno, but if they would translate it directly from hangul, it should be jong-ro or jong-lo.

'Jongno' is the textbook correct pronunciation. But I've never heard anybody say it like that. 'Jongro' isn't so hard to pronounce I don't think... well maybe it's just me :D

nice pics btw

Try to say Jongro in Korean as fast as you can and five times in a row. You'll find yourself saying "Jongno" ;)
