Great pics, StormShadow!

I went to Berbera back in 2003. It was damn hot. There is still some rebuilding to take place, but the city definitely has potential. The Gulf of Aden is such a beautiful sea to swim in!

I meant their places on the map, I thought bossaso was the port Harguesawis use, but this map tells me that port's name is berbera and bossaso is located in puntland and has nothing to do with somaliland at all.

yep it's confusing as hell but to you somalis everything is always simple :bash:

Berbera has potential but it's center needs heavy renovation.

Some of the best fish I ever had in my life was in a restaurant right on the shore. :eat:

While the Europeans refer to Amazigh as Berbers, the Arabs referred to the Somali peninsula as Bilad Al-Berber during the Medieval era. Berbera was the main port of that peninsula.

^^The Gulf of Aden was for more than a millenium known as the "Gulf of Berbera", a few decades of British Imperialism in Yemen later and its Aden galore. :ohno:

This city has been neglected badly compared to Hargesia and Burco IMO

The growth in those cities you used as comparison is mainly driven by the private sector and the diaspora, I reckon there isn't a strong connection between the latter group and Berbera.

Berbera has great "bones" when it comes to previous development, unfortunately it is in poor shape mostly.

Some revitalization (as well as A/C) could make this city look amazing.

Very true. Berbera is a strange city; on one hand you can't help but notice how empty it is, on the other hand the amount of good infrastructure and level of development in the city is striking for such a small place.

Investment + migration would do the city a lot of good, it should be competing with Bosaso not Gabiley in size and activity.

It hurts to look at the city, so much potential and yet it seems everyone has abandoned it. I know if there's peace in Mogadishu and commerce strengthens across the country Berbera will be the biggest beneficiary by far.

The problem was previous Somaliland administrations adding too much fees and general mismanagement which made it more cheaper for people from Burco and points east to use Bosaso instead.

Berbera is a nice city in many ways but its a very very hot place to living in that condition...

i was there 3 different times in a space of 30 years, the heat is unbearable...i couldn`t sit and relax and i couldn`t sleep and i couldn`t eat properly while i am in berbera...

and believe me i am not a fat person(shaxamoow) kkkkk...

The city won't develop until it has a lot of a/c, and to do that, it needs a stronger power plant.

The city is rotting, doesn't make sense. Isn't this where most of the revenue is collected by the SL authorities? Can't they do a better job than this? It's sad.

The city has a great potential, the way it is shaped, it's long history and the beautiful beaches around could make a touristic city on top of being one of Somalia's main ports.

As for the weather, is Berbera hotter than Djibouti?
