The skyscraper boom did not start until 1996.Before this, there were only 2 skyscrapers there.Look at it now...

Singapore is very innovative with its skyscrapers. Its hard to believe that the whole country is just an island.

Yup, we're so lucky. Both of our skylines are beside or near expressways.

Driving on them, and looking at the skyline (provided you're not the driver ! :D ), it looks stunning.

The utra-slim Newton Gems

How slim are they?
You can see them side-on, as the 'stick' on the right of the building with the orange stripe:
http://img26.exs.cx/img26/1874/panonewton.jpg

Meinhardt provided civil and structural engineering services for this project comprising two identical 30-storey residential towers with a total of 190 units with service core for all units. At the first storey, the towers are surrounded by an environmental deck that boasts a lush and green landscape with an intersecting water feature whilst the basement serves as the vehicle drop-off point, main carpark area and M&E rooms. The residential towers have unusually high slender ratio of 8.15 which is much higher than many of the skyscrapers in the South-East Asia region. This aspect ratio has not only helped in materializing the slenderness of the two towers, it has also made the development one of the most challenging projects in terms of building stiffness. If this was the city centre my reaction would be the same but don't forget this is effectively just a suburburban town centre! It has some awesome architecture. I think it needs a couple of taller towers though to give it more of a focal point but for an 8 year old skyline it's pretty good. 8/10

Of course not dense...its a suburban area...

With the amount of building there now, it has the potential to be dense... but all the development have their own swimming pool, tennis court and other facilities, therefore the skyline is spread out and appeared not so dense... it just need more new development to achieve that..... and yes suburb can be dense too.. why not? :)
