Most Voters Want Giuliani To Run For President

SEPTEMBER 06TH, 2004

He's called America's mayor, and according to a new poll, a lot of voters want Rudolph Giuliani to be America's president.

The former mayor got a huge bounce from his speech at the Republican Convention last week. Fifty percent of Americans surveyed by Newsweek want Giuliani to run for president in 2008. Among Republicans, the number rises to nearly two-thirds.

Giuliani has declined to talk about any potential political plans.

In the same poll, Governor George Pataki, another possible candidate in 2008, actually saw his numbers drop by 13 percent after the convention, despite having the honor of introducing President George Bush. Only 15 percent of those polled say Pataki should run for president.

And even though the Constitution won't allow it, 22 percent of those surveyed want Arnold Schwarzenegger to run for president. The California governor was born in Austria, and presidents must be born on American soil.

Newsweek polled just over 1,000 registered voters last Thursday and Friday.

I don't want him as a prez, but if he did get elected, I think he'll do a good job.
as for the Ah-nold case, I won't mind a constitution change, but I don't want him to run, at least not yet, his speech with the Nixon statement needs time to be forgotten.

Giuliani for president would be interesting.
I wonder how he would have stacked up against Bush and Kerry, had he ran for 2004.

pataki sucks as governor of ny state, im glad that people are recognizing it...

i'd prefer giuliani for prez over bush any day. at least he's a moderate and RINO. i don't really think ultra-conservatives are good for the welfare of the u.s.

I can see it now: Kerry loses due to inept campaign (with an inept candidate) Bush gets second term. Election 2008 comes down to Giuliani(R) vs Senator Hillary Clinton(D). Deja Vu New Yorkers?

Funny how people forget how much New Yorkers hated Giuliani before 9/11. Now he's considered a saint.

As much as I respect Rudi Giuliani as Mayor of New York City for his handing in the aftermath of 9/11. I personally will not vote for him in the Republican Presidential Primary four years from now. I want a person like Gary Bauer or someone who is conservative to run this time. Giuliani is too liberal for the Republican Party, he's pro-abortion, anti-gun, and also he's not a conservative at all.

When it comes to foreign policy, he is actually extremelley conservative. He is socially more liberal because many, if not most, New Yorkers wouldn't have it otherwise.

I want to see Guiliani run against Hilliary in 2008. Two New Yorkers. Then we can call it the Subway Series (or, I guess, Subway Election).

If Giuliani's term ended before 9/11, he would still go down as a great Mayor. Under him, NYC went from 2,000 homicides per year to being one of the safest big cities in America. I also like the way he cleaned up much of Manhattan asthetically.

Please don't let Pataki run!!! Guiliani would be a much better choice. To Pataki the city of Rochester deserves more money than NY. Not to say Rochester isn't important--it's just much smaller in size and population.
