The weather this day wasn't good, so I took pictures rather than swiming (the other day where so sunny, I went back red with a huge sun burn all in the back). As usual I take care to avoid to take pictures with too much peoples. But be sure, the town isn't empty of peoples, far from that.

Here is a fortified church in the pyrenees, it is said it was used by the Templars in France. Actually after the fall of the Templars, it was used as a church and had been modified quiet a few times. We can see many baroque elements in it (like the bodyless angels, only flying head, you'll notice them in some pictures). It's a small building, but full of stuff including some very old books and golden decorations. So there's a lot of pictures for a very small thing.
You'll also notice the portrait with 3 visages on a single face, it's a typical Baroque elemet, it's called an anamorphosis. Because if you see it from a different angle, you see a totaly different picture. Also in Gascony but in a place with some kind of different indentity, the Toy Country. Deeper in the mountains.

We are leaving Gascony for Lenguadoc.

This is Toulouse, capital of Lenguadoc and unofficial capital of Occitania.

Some pics I've taken, but I have been in old places only. I wanted to take the train station Marengo but I forgot it. I also wanted to take the Airbus buildings but they were too far away from the centre town. Same stuff for Alcatel, Sagem, Aerospatiale and Arianne. Toulouse is the 2nd student town of France after Paris but is only 700.000 people large. So it's a very young and active town. And it's now very multicultural too. I was born there and I'll get back there for work. I would love to live there all my life.

First, here is the main landmark. The Capitole, or Capitolium by its old name. It was built in the 9th century I think but was modified quiet a lot of time. It has two squares. One behind with the dungeon, one in front of it with the Occitanian cross on the ground (the real one, looking closely you'll see the 12 signs of the zodiak at each point of the cross, to get an idea look at my avatar). I've been inside but there was a wedding, couldn't visit it much longer so, it's not used for various civils office and as a concert hall for classical music.

The 2nd most important landmark is the Saint Sernin Basilica built in the 11th century. I've been disapointed by the inside. But the outside is very nice, the sunday you have a market there that attract many tourists (more tourists than residents).

Still in Lenguadoc, a 2000 years' old church. Ok, as a church it's not 2000 years, but the site is that old.

Could be unsignificant but like most stuff in the Pyreneese and Southwest regions, it looks simple from the outside, but the inside is very nice. Kinda deep I think, rude and (not so) simple from the outside and totaly different inside, like the church of the Templars and so many stuff. It's one of many British tourist spot here.

Esta semana santa nos dimos un garbeo por los pirineos franceses y a la vuelta nos paramos en Pau, capital del departamento de los Pirineos Atlánticos (64) en el que están situadas las provincias vascas de Iparralde, así como capital de la región histórica del Béarn. También fue sede de la corte del rey Enrique IV de Francia y de Navarra y sede del parlamento de Navarra, donde ejerció como letrado el zuberotarra Arnault D'Oihenart (1597-1667), uno de los pocos escritores en euskera anteriores al siglo XX que no fue clérigo. Entre otras obras y además de sus poesías en euskera, hizo uno de los primeros intentos de hacer una Historia de Vasconia, tanto norte como sur, cogiendo a Vasconia como centro de su labor historiográfica y como sujeto histórico, y publicó una recopilación de refranes vascos con su traducción al francés. Volviendo al tema del reportaje, hasta ahora sólo había estado en Pau de pasada y tenía una muy mala imagen de la ciudad, puesto que los barrios periféricos son, para andarnos sin rodeos, una kakilla. Sin embargo esta vez conocí el centro y la parte antigua y me sorprendió. Me pareció bonito. Aunque tenga poco que comentar porque no memoricé nombres de calles ni nada, por lo menos nos hacemos una semblanza de lo que es la ciudad.

Nos dirigimos hacia el paseo que da a los Pirineos, pero de pasada hacemos otra foto. Pobre mujer! Casi no podía subir la cuesta.

La parte antigua, dando al sur, termina en una terraza (igual que en Pamplona, por ejemplo), con unas vistas impresionantes sobre los Pireneos. Aquí hay gran cantidad de hoteles, bares, cafeterías, etc. Es una zona de bastante animación, e imagino que parte de la marcha nocturna estará concentrada aquí. En esta zona no saqué muchas fotos.

Unas fotos muy interesantes.

La ciudad no tiene "pinta" de capital, aunque parece que cumple con el diseño de la típica ciudad francesa de tamaño medio.

Al margen de que el nivel de vida del Dpto. 64 no llegue a la media francesa, ¿podríamos decir que urbanísticamente las ciudades francesas pequeñas no están tan bien equipadas como las nuestras? Me refiero a escaleras mecánicas, ascensores, calles peatonales, etc.

¿El Parlamento de Navarra incluye algún tipo de exposición sobre la historia de Navarra o sobre el propio edificio?

Una pregunta, ¿qué se sabe del Banco Inchauspé? Lo he visto otras veces por ahí pero nunca he oído nada al respecto.

Es preciosa Pau aunque yo la veo un poco sucia (las fachadas me refiero) quedaria una ciudad preciosa si limpiasen las fachadas y si peatonalizasen (esto claro esta para el visitante) algunas calles del centro.

Pau es una ciudad curiosa, tiene bastante vida para estar en la zona geográfica en la que se encuentra, rodeada de desiertos demográficos...sería sin duda la gran perjudicada de la separación en 2 del departamento
