New Delhi/Inde

New Delhi (Hindi: नई दिल्ली Naī Dillī, Ourdou: دہلی ou دلّی , parfois francisée en Nouvelle-Delhi) est la capitale de l'Inde, sur la Yamuna. Elle comptait près de 322 000 habitants en 20061. C'est une des trois municipalités (avec Delhi et Delhi Cantonment) du National Capital Territory of Delhi (Territoire capital national de Delhi) dont la population est estimée à plus de 17 millions d'habitants en 2008, ce qui en fait la deuxième agglomération du pays après Mumbai et avant Kolkatta.
Siège du gouvernement du Territoire capital national de Delhi, New Delhi est régie par son propre gouvernement municipal, le New Delhi Municipal Council. D'autres secteurs urbains de la métropole de Delhi sont administrés par la Municipal Corporation of Delhi et ne sont pas par conséquent considérés comme faisant partie de la ville capitale. Cependant, la métropole entière de Delhi est généralement connue sous le nom de New Delhi, par opposition au vieux Delhi.
