KOGI State government has finally upgraded the stadium being constructed in Lokoja, the state capital, to a FIFA standard.
The state Commissioner for Information, Mr Tom Ohikere stated this at the stadium site when he paid an unshelduled visit to the project.
With the new development, the work on the stadium would gulp N2.6billion against the N2.1billion earlier proposed for the project.
Conducting the team round the stadium, project manager of TEC construction company, Xu Zilong said that the work on the stadium had reached 70 per cent completion, adding that the upgrading of the stadium to meet the FIFA standard, had delayed the completion of the stadium.
Part of the new structures introduced to the stadium include artificial grass, computerised score board and modern floodlight.
Ohikere said that the decision of the government to upgrade the stadium to a FIFA standard was to be able to vie for hosting rights of international matches, considering that proximity of the capital city to Abuja.
Ohikere, however, debunked the rumour that huge amount of money was paid to a consultant for the project, stating that the approval of the project was done in line with federal government’s approved guidelines.
