Most of the condos facing the beach in Ipanema were built in the 60´s and 70´s and few of them are new, though they are Rio´s most valuable real estate.

The streets inside Ipanema neighbourhood have lots of local beachwear shops and healthy/light/diet restaurants.

I particularly love the coconut palms along the seafront. I'm not sure why that hasn't been done on the Gold Coast. They grow so well and it looks so tropical.

Love the pictures of the water too. Is the water warm? I suspect it would be, being a similar latitude to here.

I still don't know why Aussie beaches do not embrace the sun umbrellas on the beach, gives well needed shade and promotes a healthy lifestyle by reducing sun burn and cancers.

The water is not warm as it is in the Caribbean or in Northeast Brazil, but it´s not cold as in Cape Town. I´d say it is the perfect temperature, given that Rio is most of the year a really hot and humid place.

Rio has maybe the most spectacular marine scenery of any large city on the planet. Stunning waterfront, more-so than either Cape Town or San Francisco - and that's some pretty hefty competition!
