JERUSALEM -- Madonna will celebrate the Jewish New Year in Israel next week, and police said Thursday they will mobilize hundreds of officers for her planned visit to the graves of rabbinical sages in northern Israel. Madonna is arriving along with 2,000 other students of Kabbalah, or Jewish mysticism, from 22 countries, said Tali Rosen, a spokeswoman for the Kabbalah Center which organizes the trip.

The Israeli newspaper Maariv reported that police are concerned religious extremists will try to disrupt the visit. Police spokesman Gil Kleiman could not confirm the report, but said 2,000 officers are being deployed.

:) This is funny . She'll also be accompanied by the actress Demi Moore and U.S. designer Donna Karan . I heard that Madonna is also going to meat with Rabbi Kaduri and receive his blessing - imagine that

What a shame. This is such a farce. It is really too bad that someone is fooling her, and others are fooled by her. Such nonsense! A zonah like her! Mamesh, this is a sick, sick joke.

The people of Israel are mostly jewish, they are NOT however, religious in any way, most of them anyhow. Yes we live on the holy land as you call it, yet we have any right to decide how exactly we want to live and free to choose a secular life style thank you very much

Man, im not very religious, but im pretty sure kabbalah is only to be studied by those(men) who have studied Torah for many years and want a further education in Jewish religion and philosiphy.
I'm very certian that Madonna does not fall into any of these catagories

That Celebrity-Kabbalah-Trend is just ridiculous! And the yellow-press pretends, that kabbalah in generel is kinda dangerous...But it's Madonna...I mean, 4 years ago, she was on a Buddha-trip. Let's see, what's next ;) !

Yeah, I feel it's like McJudaism or something.

But hey, I won't judge people for that.

why does everythingisone say that this is a shame and a farce?
farce: ridiculous or empty show
shame: something that brings censure or reproach; also : something to be regretted

If one claims to be a follower of a belief system, but publically acts in a manner that is so contradictory, the belief is a farce. It is better to be silent.

It is a shame that she publicizes something that is so deep and meaningful as this in the manner she does. Her understanding of it, and the school she attends that teaches it as a legitimate form of Kabbalah study is to be regretted.

I think that each individual has his own right of living and believing, we are not here to judge, Judaism BTW forbids that....we are here to respect each other and each others faith. I wont judge Madonna, ill simply respect her for who she is and what shes achieved in her life, that is definitely unquestionable

Each individual certainly has the right to their own beliefs.

I am not sure what you mean that Judiasm forbids what you call judging someone. Please explain.

While I agree that we need to respect others, I am not sure what you mean that we need to respect each other's faith. What do you mean by that?

Regarding Madonna, I am not clear of her acheivements. Granted, she has been 'successful' in her field, but how are those things defined as acheivements? Has a financially successful prostitute achieved a great deal because of the wealth? Not to say that Madonna and a prostitute are the same thing, but rather as a general question in order to understand your statement.

On the other hand, Madonna cheapens Kabbalah with her boasting of being a follower. If she really understood what it is she is trying to study, she would be silent about it.

RoM has been busy ;)
Judaism forbids prejudging or underestimating, it also forbids gossips, each person should mind his own business thats what I meant by that.

What I meant about the faith is that if Madonna chose a certain way of practicing we should respect that even if its not exactly the way you "should" practice it. Madonna perhaps cheapens Kabbalah, but there are other people who cheapens by far more.

Call it whatever you want, prostitution, attention seeking etc Madonna is a success thats a fact, nobody could ever take it from her, you can question her profession if you like, but you can not question the outcome, she is probably one of the most successful people on earth. She rose from nothing to a huge megastar world wide famous, she needs to get at least SOME credut for that doesnt she?

Thanks for responding RoM.

Actually in Judiasm there is a difference between gossip and judging someone. Gossip is certainly no allowed, but judging someone can be. Even though we learn we should judge someone l'zchut, there are conditions when we should judge some l'chov, or dis-favorably. One must discern when each type of judgement is required and correct.

There is a difference between acheivement and success. She is very successful in her trade, but that does not mean she has acheived something. Achievement, as I percieve it, has to add value. I don't think her work adds value to the development and betterment of mankind.
