Suwat wants elevated walkway


PREEYANAT PHANAYANGGOOR

Deputy Prime Minister Suwat Liptapanlop wants an elevated escalator walkway along Rama I road linking all main shopping centres in Pathumwan, to promote tourism.

Mr Suwat floated the idea with Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayothin at a meeting at Government House yesterday.

The elevated escalator walkway would connect Maboonkrong shopping centre and Central department store, Chidlom branch, and would pass through other shopping centres along the route.

The walkway would provide safety for tourists and pedestrians and make the city more attractive, he said.

Mr Suwat said the governor agreed to consider the idea and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) would pay for the construction. The government was willing to help with extra cash if needed.

Mr Suwat also recommended Mr Apirak to develop Sathorn pier, close King Taksin bridge's skytrain station, as a transport centre connecting bus, boat and skytrain services, and improve water transport by building safety piers along rivers and canals.

He also asked the governor to look for a large piece of land along Chao Phraya river to build a new public park. The park could also be used as a venue for New Year or Loy Krathong functions.

Mr Apirak said he welcomed the ideas.

Great news....

I really like the area of Ratchaprasong intersection. :) and crosswalk even have the signal sign for pedestrians. i think Bangkok needs more of that since it's very hard to cross street in many areas.

การรถไฟฟ้าขนส่งมวลชนแห่งประเทศไทย ( รฟม .) ขอความร่วมมือตำรวจท้องที่ปิดช่องจราจร 2 ช่องบริเวณต้นถนนสีลมขาเข้าเพื่อก่อสร้างทางเดินเชื่อมต่อระหว่างสถานีสีลมของ รฟม . และสถานีศาลาแดงของ บีทีเอส ระหว่างเวลา 22.00-05.00 น . ตั้งแต่บัดนี้จนถึงวันที่ 1 พฤศจิกายน 2547

ตามที่ ฯพณฯ นายกรัฐมนตรี และรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงคมนาคม มีนโยบายอำนวยความสะดวกให้กับประชาชนในการเดินทางเชื่อมต่อระหว่างสถานีรถไฟฟ้า ใต้ดินและสถานีรถไฟฟ้าบีทีเอสที่สีลม สุขุมวิท และหมอชิต โดยที่บริเวณสีลมนั้น เนื่องจากทางเข้า - ออกสถานีรถไฟฟ้าใต้ดิน ( สถานีสีลม ) และสถานีรถไฟฟ้าบีทีเอส ( สถานีศาลาแดง ) ตั้งอยู่ห่างกันค่อนข้างมาก ดังนั้น รฟม . จึงได้ทำการก่อสร้างทางเดินยกระดับจากบริเวณทางขึ้น - ลงของสถานีรถไฟฟ้าของ รฟม . ที่สี่แยกถนนสีลมไปถึงสถานีศาลาแดงของบีทีเอส โดยก่อสร้างเกาะไปตามแนวตอม่อของรถไฟฟ้าบีทีเอส โดยให้ บริษัท พรีบิลท์ จำกัด ( มหาชน ) เป็นผู้รับเหมาก่อสร้าง ซึ่งบริษัทฯ จะทำการติดตั้งเสาเหล็กรองรับทางเดินและโครงหลังคาเพื่อก่อสร้าง ทางเชื่อมดังกล่าว จึงมีความจำเป็นต้องปิดการจราจรบริเวณต้นถนนสีลมขาเข้าชั่วคราว จำนวน 2 ช่องจราจร ตั้งแต่บริเวณโรงแรมดุสิตธานี ไปจนถึงสถานีรถไฟฟ้าศาลาแดง ระหว่างเวลา 22.00-05.00 น . ตั้งแต่วันนี้เป็นต้นไปถึงวันที่ 1 พฤศจิกายน 2547 โดยคาดว่า รฟม . จะสามารถก่อสร้างทางเดินดังกล่าวแล้วเสร็จและเปิดให้บริการได้ภายในปลายปี 2547 นี้ ส่วนที่สถานีรถไฟฟ้าใต้ดินสุขุมวิทและสถานีอโศกของบีทีเอสนั้น รฟม . กำลังติดตั้งบันไดเลื่อนเพิ่มเติมเพื่อให้ประชาชนผู้ใช้บริการสามารถเดินเชื่อมถึงสถานีรถไฟฟ้าของบีทีเอสได้โดยตรงโดยไม่ต้องเดินขึ้น - ลงบันได ซึ่งคาดว่าจะแล้วเสร็จประมาณต้นเดือนตุลาคม 2547

The Siam Square via duct connecting with Ratchaprasong via duct has to be storng enough to withstand the shock wave of half a million Skytrain Passenger during New Year Eve and new Year whcih Skytrain has to run aroudn the clock -> 3 AM and hundreds of passengers still walk around Victory Monument

For the case of COnnection at Sukhumvit-Asok ... It will have to be storng enough to withstand the wave of passenges to have made a convenient interechange there ....
Gate 4 at the Buiding opposite to Soi Prasarn Mit (Sukhumvit 23) is a big must since many passngers don't want to brave agianast teh traffic wave at this intersection.

For the case fo Silom - Saladaeng, MRTA beter ask Chulalongkorn Hospital to sacrifice the land for making the3rd gate and the owner of Charn Issara Tower to sacrifice the land to make the 4th Gate for Silom station.

Same and be said to Chulalongkorn U. who shouldsacrifice some space at Samyan Flea Market for the 3rd gate and the area in front of Faculty of Accountant & Commerce
for the 4th Gate.

damn i was kinda hoping for a nicer design for the escalators on asoke intersection.
its one of Bangkok's busiest intersections, they should make it look nicer.

I also very dissappointed, but they are installing the Aluminum-carbon panels around the edges, so.the result might look nicer than it's current appearance.

i think the design is not that bad. but it looks so messy around that area. i think they should make it nicer.

Shopping Sky Walk to run alongside skytrain



Central Pattana has announced a ``Sky Walk'' project that will connect the Siam Square shopping area with its Central World shopping complex and Central Chidlom department store.

The walkway will run alongside the Sukhumvit route of the BTS electric train, and will open later this year.

Kobchai Chirathivat, Central Pattana's president, said the Sky Walk would be an elevated walkway that would allow pedestrians to walk between Siam Square, Rajprasong and Chidlom without having to descend to the pavements.

He said it would create an elevated shopping street and help in the government's energy-saving campaign.

Anat Arbhabhirama, adviser to Bangkok Mass Transit System _ the BTS train operator _ said Sky Walk would be a win-win project for traders, tourists, shoppers and the electric train system.

He said it would form a giant shopping area like Orchard road in Singapore or Tsim Sha Tsui in Hong Kong. City clerk Khunying Nathanon Thavisin said the focus will be on convenience and safety.

ผู้จัดการรายวัน – เซ็นทรัลพัฒนา เร่งเครื่องมั่นใจเปิดอาคารสำนักงานได้ปลายปีนี้ พร้อมทั้งเตรียมปรับปรุงโฉมศูนย์การค้าใหม่ เผยมี 10 กว่าร้านค้าที่ยังดื้อไม่เปลี่ยนแปลง มั่นใจไม่ร้ายแรง ล่าสุดทุ่ม 260 ล้านบาท ทำสกายวอล์ค หวังดึงคนเข้าศูนย์จาก 2 สถานีรถไฟฟ้าสยามและชิดลม

นายกอบชัย จิราธิวัฒน์ กรรมการผู้จัดการใหญ่ บริษัท เซ็นทรัลพัฒนา จำกัด (มหาชน) หรือซีพีเอ็น เปิดเผยถึงความคืบหน้าของโครงการเซ็นทรัล เวิลด์ พลาซ่า ว่า ขณะนี้ในส่วนของอาคารสำนักงานก่อสร้างโครงสร้างแล้วเสร็จ คาดว่าภายในเดือนตุลาคมนี้จะสามารถเปิดใช้งานได้ซึ่งเป็นไปตามแผนงานที่กำหนดไว้ตั้งแต่แรก เวลานี้มีบางบริษัทที่อยู่ระหว่างการตกแต่งพื้นที่ภายในแล้ว

ทั้งนี้มีผู้เข้ามาเช่าพื้นที่แล้วประมาณ 40% ของพื้นที่ทั้งหมด เช่น บริษัทหลักทรัพย์กรุงศรีอยุธยา กิมเอง เป็นต้น โดยจะมีผู้ที่รับผิดชอบในการขายพื้นที่ 3 รายคือ ซีพีเอ็น โจนส์แลง ริชาร์ดเอลลิส

นอกจากนั้นในส่วนของศูนย์การค้าก็มีแผนที่จะปรับปรุงใหม่ทั้งหมด แต่แบ่งเป็นโซนตามความเหมาะสม ซึ่งอาจจะมีการสร้างเป็นสกายไลท์เพื่อให้เหมือนกับศูนย์การค้าเซ็นทรัลสาขาอื่นที่เป็นจุดเด่นของซีพีเอ็นไปแล้ว เพื่อสร้างบรรยากาศการช้อปปิง

ขณะนี้มีผู้เช่าประมาณ 10 กว่ารายที่ยังไม่ตกลงที่จะย้ายทำเลหรือจะมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงการตกแต่งเพื่อให้เป็นไปตามคอนเซ็ปท์ของศูนย์ แต่คาดว่าคงไม่มีปัญหาอะไร เพราะเป็นจำนวนที่น้อย แต่เมื่อทั้งศูนย์หรือว่าร้านอื่นมีการปรับก็จะทำให้เกิดความแตกต่างกันเอง ซึ่งส่วนใหญ่เป็นร้านค้าที่ไม่มีสาขาในศูนย์อื่นจึงทำให้ไม่คุ้นเคยกับการเปลี่ยนแปลง

นอกจากนั้นแล้วยังอยู่ระหว่างการปรับปรุงห้าง ZEN ด้วยการเพิ่มพื้นที่บริการซึ่งอยู่ระหว่างการก่อสร้างพื้นที่ด้านหน้าเพิ่มเติม คาดว่าจะสามารถเปิดให้บริการสมบูรณ์แบบภายในปี 2548
ทั้งนี้หลังจากที่ปรับปรุงทั้งศูนย์หมดแล้วจะทำให้มีพื้นที่บริการเพิ่มขึ้นเป็น 241,000 ตารางเมตร จากเดิมที่มีเพียง 70,000 ตารางเมตร

นายกอบชัยกล่าวด้วยว่า ล่าสุดบริษัทได้ลงทุนประมาณ 260 ล้านบาท ในการก่อสร้างสกายวอล์ค เป็นทางเชื่อมระหว่างสถานีรถไฟฟ้าชิดลมและสถานีสยามและอาคารสำนักงานเซ็นทรัลเวิลด์ ซึ่งคาดว่าจะสามารถเปิดใช้บริการได้ภายในเดือนธันวาคมนี้ โดยมอบหมายให้บริษัท PKET จำกัด เป็นผู้รับผิดชอบ โดยขนาดของสกายวอล์คมีความกว้าง 7.5 เมตร ความยาว 513 เมตร เพื่อสร้างความสะดวกสบายต่อผู้คนที่จะเดินทางสัญจรในบริเวณดังกล่าว

อีกทั้งยังเป็นการดึงคนเข้ามาเดินในศูนย์การค้าเซ็นทรัลเวิลด์พลาซ่าอีกด้วย ซึงปัจจุบันนี้มีคนเดินเข้าศูนย์ประมาณ 80,000 คนต่อวัน ซึ่งหลังจากมีทางเดินเชื่อมนี้แล้วคาดว่าจะเพิ่มจำนวนคนขึ้นอีกประมาณ 20-30% ต่อวัน ทั้งนี้จากตัวเลขของรถไฟฟ้าบีทีเอสระบุว่า สถานีชิดลมมีผู้เดินเข้าออกประมาณ 35,000 คนต่อวัน ส่วนสถานีสยามมีประมาณ 50,000 คนต่อวัน

สกายวอล์คจะเป็นจุดเด่นอีกอย่างหนึ่งของโครงการเซ็นทรัลเวิลด์ เพราะเป็นจุดเชื่อมของศูนย์การค้าเซ็นทรัลเวิลด์ บริเวณชั้น 2 ของห้าง ZEN เพื่อให้ลูกค้าเกิดความสะดวกและยังเข้าถึงในส่วนของอาคารสำนักงานบริเวณชั้น 3 สร้างความสะดวกของพนักงานในการเดินทางมาทำงาน

สำหรับโครงการเซ็นทรัลเวิลด์พลาซ่านี้รวมทั้งหมดทุกส่วนจะมีมูลค่าะมาณ 15,000 ล้านบาท แบ่งเป็นศูนย์การา 10,000 ล้านบาทและโรงแรม 5,000 ล้านบาท

นายกอบชัยกล่าวถึงธุรกิจค้าปลีกโดยรวมด้วยว่า กฎหมายผังเมืองยังไม่สอดคล้องกับความเป็นจริง ธุรกิจค้าปลีกของไทยอาจจะหยุดชะงักจากนี้ เนื่องจากในช่วง 1 ปีมานี้ไม่มีโครงการที่เกิดขึ้นใหม่ อันเนื่องมาจากกฎหมายผังเมืองที่ประกาศใช้ นวัตกรรมใหม่ๆจะชะงักไปด้วย ซึ่งจะมีการร่วมมือกันศึกษารายละเอียดกับทางทีมงานของภาครัฐอีกครั้งเพื่อให้กำกนดมาตรการใหม่

Its so freakin crowding its ugly. I hate overpasses in any city and as people pointed out the construction meterial is not very nice. I hope they build underground crossing tunnels or maybe they can convert the sewer system into public walkways.

And those taxis, I wish the government would repaint them or bann them in the inner-city.

Also, Most of those buildings are so ugly the government should take them by right of eminent domain and beatufy and expand the sidewalks.

so what will be on the ground floor of City Link?

I'm not sure, but I think it will be retail-area.

I believe they will use the existing over-head walkway.

This 'skywalk' concept is interesting and will be good to access the main shopping centers by skytrain. However I also like to see improvements at ground level where all the street activities are happening, especially the footpaths around Pratunam area.. it's still quite messy and unorganised.

well i think having overpasses is not that bad. we should even have more of those. it's better than letting people crossing on the road. but i agree that they should make it a bit nicer. Actually many of them look pretty nice already:)

As for the taxi, i think those color look okay. and it's very convenience to get around the city.;) and i believe every major cities around the world has lots of taxis.

i dont like how the taxis are multicoloured. it looks very tacky.
if they insist on keeping them multicoloured, someone please teach them how to pick 2 colours that complement each other.

True Jo, Bangkok's Taxis are nice car compare to Singapre and Hongkong which still susing the old model of Toyota and Nissan (not counting the Mercedez in Singapore which also an old model.)

Actually, it is because vehicles from Thailand wanting to cross border to Malaysia have to get a car license in roman alphabet. Just to change the Thai letter to roman letter but the number remains unchanged. But it is just a sticker not metal license plates. We can see many cars like this as well in Had yai.

I am confirm, It's a bridge link to Thaniya Plaza BTS wing. I know the one u misunderstood with is the one that will link to another building next to Thaniya Plaza which will be supported by 2 columns, thats the former Hongkong bank building. But for thsi one, it's directed connected to BTS Station platform level 1 without and special extra column to support it...:)

i think it looks odd because of the three conflicting styles. the bts has one style, the mrt has another style and this connection has an even more different style.

it would be nice if the bts removed their stairs from there (im pretty sure no one is walking up when there is an escalator 5 metres away) so that there is more space to walk on the sidewalk.
maybe even do something about that elevator that leaves 1 metre (seriouslly) for pedestrains.

So true, but I think they'r quite busy installing many escalators to stations around town right now lah....:D

The BTS stairs and escalators look great IMO and has a distinctly Thai shape, same with the subway entrances. If they had used that general style but of course made them larger it would have been great for the citilink I think. ..and with a less screaming color of course :D

Well from my opinion, at least just change the license plates of all taxis to numbers. That is really a big trouble for travelers who come to Thailand for a visit and got slap by the taxi, or left stuff behind.

I encountered the problem myself. And that is really what should have been fixed for long time ago. Who cares? every foreign taxi travelers do, i'd say that.

Same thing, who can you recognize arabic alphabet? Even in localized country like Japan all the taxis use only numbers on the license plates, which is really a nice thing to remember.

Guess what? That reallys made me pissed when the police asked me can you remember the license plate of that taxi. You probably say that I was really stupid to leave my iPod and new shoes i just bought in that friggin taxi. I lost them all for that and I wanted that to be fixed real soon. Wish you guys would understand me, just a bit.

i thought that the license plate number is already in arabic number.. not thai. the only thing in thai is the gor-kai to hor-nokhuk before the number

To go to Central Chitlom, I think u have to go down to the street level at Chitlom Station because the skybridge tha links to it is actually located on teh other side of the Station which appearently ticket needed to walk pass.

which are ALWAYS written in Thai Numbers on the BLACk plate after the discus (Army),

For the case of NBIA, No comment unit it is DONE.

For the case of Siam center, better go to the Flyover near pathumwan Intersection and you'll see what are you looking for.

For the case of Maungthogn Thani, it is the 1st phase and Iwould NOT expect all the thign you have seen at Sig Flags will prop up like mushrooms durign the rainy season. If you are refering to IMPACT HALL, yeah ... quite spooky if you look around ... I have riden bicycle to IMPACT coutless of times so I know what you are refering to.

Once again, age has totally nothing to do with the matuality, just dont lock your self up in a box only because of the number of year you were borned. 16 was my age 2 years ago once the Thai forum first started.

I obviously had gone too far on this.

I really wanted to say that I never meant to be that negative. Either thinking that they suck, but sometimes they should have been better. I didnt talk about the thai traditional numbers on the military license plate but on the cabs to change the thai alphabet to all numbers or western character which is more suitable for everyone (but probably not for some locals) and I would stand clearly on the idea of changing it to all numbers so the cops could have done their job "easier" with a foreigner like me. But I noticed that Im really not the one who started thinking about this, there was a news once when a japanese woman was attacked by the cab driver, she could only remember the numbers. But luckily thai police did capture the driver which is really good by the way but in my case they werent able to..

But I really have nothing to do with the Siam Center exterior improvement. Improvement always makes things better. Also Skywalks are useful facilities which everybody will. And for the Muang Thong Thani, I dont expect something like Six Flags or Unniversal Studios or something like that but If it is possible, dont take those words too seriously.

At last I probably did say something really offense. I apologize. I never meant to say something that offense the ideal of you guys. Im always excited for all the new city facilities.

yeah, something like that.

IMO, it doesn't look cheap. but it makes the city looks a bit messy in some areas. i still like it though, very convenient. Bangkok needs more of this. after the govt. put those powerlines down, it will look okay.:)

For the link between MRT and BTS. My opinion is the look should be the same to either MRT or BTS designs (MRT has the nicer look for me w/ modern glassy alumina).

The skywalks are reasonable and should be an attractive facilities in the future. Eventhough it looks messy now but we cant say that it is going to be messy.

There are 3 major factors of building such an urban utensils to facilitate such an enormous number of people,
Price-function and design...which all 3 have to go together for best since you have to understand our climate variable, which using too much glass will also causing a waste of energy consumption by Airconditioning system unlike the Western World that we always comparing ourself to.
Infacts, in those 3 I think this structure got most of them alright, Design go well with the function and the pice I believe is not so high since they use only what needed to be used such as normal tile but looks nice, open space of air-flowing intermal and grand stair together with 2 escalators.

I dont like it very much but I'm happy to have it. :)

Cool stuff! this is the first thing I must do when i go back to Thailand this time..i will give this skywalk a shot. by the way, dont u think it looks kinda dull from the inside. But as a tourist, it would be nicer to walk on it than walking on unlevelled pedestrian.

They should put some ads on the skytrain pillars to cover the unpleasant look.

that couldn't be possible as there is no skywalk connecting from BTS Ploenchit station to BTS Nana station and from Chitlom to Ploenchit as well. :)

yup, they are rapidly building the catwalk from Asoke intersection....Exchange Tower (True Fitness) and eventually the new Interchange Tower (future California Fitness) to connect to the existing catwalk which leads all the way to Times Square building (which is past the Grand Sukhumvit Sheraton walking towards Nana).....

but eventually, I think the catwalk will keep expanding....

you can already walk on catwalk from Central Chidlom departo (at Chidlom station) all the way to MBK center and National Stadium station to Soi Jim Thompson house.....

I dont see why they wont (in future) connect continuous catwalk from Asoke station to Nana and then to Ploenchit station and then to Childom stations...(especially when new Ploenchit station towers and British Embassy towers and mall and Wireless Commons and Sofitel Sukhumvit and Regent Sukhumvit etc. rises)

also I think the catwalk will grow from Asoke station all the way to Emporium.... and all along the way, major buildings and shopping zones will want to connect to the catwalk... :yes: at that point, they better have skytrains every 15 seconds at rush hours or they will be tooooooo crowded)

I love the new skywalks even if they are a sad reminder that we have effectively given up on the sidewalks down below...

^^ I certainly hope that it is just for temporary method of safe walking in Bangkok, I hope they will not give up on sidewalks and do something more about it to match or even nicer/better than other big cities around the world, at least for the CBD area.
I can see they are doing something along rama1 and more just hope after it done it will come out great.
Back to the skywalk, I thinks it's kinda nice to have it, u know something unique and actually look futuristic.

I think the one sky walk section that is desperately needed is one that should/could intercepts the current sky walk from between Gaysorn and Zen and run down the main strip past along Central World and Isetan right over past the never will be finished Pattunam centre, with extra drop down point onto or into Central and the other side of the strip past canal etc.

That is so very much needed.

BTW does anyone know what is happening around the area behind the Manhattan chidlom building where all the car warehouses use to be..so many of them are been knocked down.
Who does that land belong to and what's their plan?



yup, they are rapidly building the catwalk from Asoke intersection....Exchange Tower (True Fitness) and eventually the new Interchange Tower (future California Fitness) to connect to the existing catwalk which leads all the way to Times Square building (which is past the Grand Sukhumvit Sheraton walking towards Nana).....

but eventually, I think the catwalk will keep expanding....

you can already walk on catwalk from Central Chidlom departo (at Chidlom station) all the way to MBK center and National Stadium station to Soi Jim Thompson house.....

I dont see why they wont (in future) connect continuous catwalk from Asoke station to Nana and then to Ploenchit station and then to Childom stations...(especially when new Ploenchit station towers and British Embassy towers and mall and Wireless Commons and Sofitel Sukhumvit and Regent Sukhumvit etc. rises)

also I think the catwalk will grow from Asoke station all the way to Emporium.... and all along the way, major buildings and shopping zones will want to connect to the catwalk... :yes: at that point, they better have skytrains every 15 seconds at rush hours or they will be tooooooo crowded)

Just took a stroll down wireless road and noticed that the sidewalk there has been renovated and looking pretty nice. Lets hope the rest of the sidewalks follow suit.
