It made the front page in the newspaper over here. :) Is this the best shot of getting the twins rebuilt better than ever? I would think it's the only concrete plan involving the rebirth of the twin towers. Izeklah September 12th, 2004, 04:39 AM I think the new site is rather tacky... What do others think? STR September 12th, 2004, 04:20 PM Theystill need to work on the towers facade. I like the idea of wider windows, but they don't need the double-layer skin. Just widening the windows would look much better. Just look at Chicago's Aon Center, it's structurally almost identical to the twins, but the windows are huge. Compared to the official plan, as well as the other Twin Tower proposals at TTT, this one is light years ahead. cincobarrio September 12th, 2004, 04:23 PM On the site, it says that they're almost finished with a 9 foot light up model of the WTC II. Should be cool. New Jack City September 18th, 2004, 04:59 AM Gardner's towers do need some facade work and the spire looks kind of funny at the moment... http://www.kiasol.com/wtc/images/wtc1-lg.jpg The lowrise buildings are completely ugly, they look like condos. This plan is the best alternative other than rebuilding the Towers using Yamasaki's facade though. Izeklah October 1st, 2004, 09:24 AM Here's another article on the Gardner Plan: http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=3928 johnbeton October 8th, 2004, 04:48 PM I love this proposal (but there's still some work to do on the facade and lowrises), but I'm afraid it's all too late and after all the Freedom Tower will be build no matter what everyone says and complains about it :bash: it's a wasted opportunity for new york  Gendo October 9th, 2004, 02:11 AM Hmm I like the facade on the lowrises. It looks much better than the original buildings. The roof on each should look different, and yet also looked related to each other like the WFC's buildings across the street that have a dome, a pyramid and two stepped pyramids. The twin towers of Gardner's design aren't bad either in that they pay tribute to the original design They could use more details, or maybe some subtle shape changes as you go up higher so they aren't just uniform and rather plain box windows. A mix of that on the bottom and curtain glass walls further up would be better. Anyways, I've already made two different design proposals, if anyone remembers buildthetowers.org, and the one I had at SSP before they banned me from their forums, so I don't plan to do another. You can't even have a philosophic discussion over there without getting into trouble. johnbeton October 13th, 2004, 02:09 AM I'm afraid these designs are all coming too late, some politicians have made up their mind about the Freedom tower and those asses will probably force this tower to be built, no matter which other designs come up Izeklah October 13th, 2004, 02:23 AM I'm afraid these designs are all coming too late, some politicians have made up their mind about the Freedom tower and those asses will probably force this tower to be built, no matter which other designs come up The Gardner design alone can't get the towers back. It's too late in the game for that. The only way I can see the Gardner Plan getting built is if Berzon's book starts an investigation of the rebuilding process, the investigation reveals a scandal, and THEN the Gardner Plan is promoted. Other than that, I don't think they stand a chance. AJphx October 13th, 2004, 11:02 PM That Gardner plan is horrible. It is extremely ugly... far worse than the original WTC towers. That is why they don't stand a chance... if they want to be taken seriously, then they should get a real architect to improve the plan in place of whatever hack thought up that design. |
