South Africa was asked to host the tournament by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) due to the ongoing political unrest in Libya.

The Football Association of Libya was scheduled to host the biennial event, starting on March 18, but CAF approached Safa after the outbreak of violence in the North African country.

Libyans are demanding the resignation of ruler Muammar Gaddafi but "Brother Leader" has made it clear he is not going anywhere as most of his people love him.

Safa deputy president Mandla "Shoes" Mazibuko said: 'We were approached by CAF to host the tournament, in principle we have agreed.

"We still have to conclude the paperwork with the organisers. We asked CAF to postpone the tournament to late April or the beginning of May. Our argument is that we are having the Local Government elections on April 18.

"We have two provinces, North West and Western Cape, bidding to host the tournament.

"We are in discussions with them and do not want to find ourselves in serious financial troubles after the elections when there are new people elected.

"It is a known fact we can host any tournament with our eyes closed tomorrow, but the fundamental thing here is that coach Khabo must assemble a strong team to make us proud.

"We could not qualify (after losing to Lesotho in the opening qualifiers), we cannot afford to bring a team that will just participate. They will do well.

"We are also going to engage the PSL on the release of players."

Mazibuko said Safa will make a formal announcement to host the tournament once they have signed all the necessary documents with CAF, including agreeing with the host city or province with regard to the broadcast rights.

So, anyone have any info on this? Which stadiums are the provinces looking to use?

South africa is hosting it so it will participate in it because caf disqualified libya amid the crisis over there....:okay:

CAF has chosen South Africa as hosts of the Orange African Youth Championship 2011 due to the current political situation in initial hosts Libya.

The competition will now take place from 17 April - 1 May 2011 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

South Africa will replace Libya in Group A, which will include Mali, Lesotho and Egypt, whilst Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria and Gambia make up Group B.

The semi finalists will represent the continent at the FIFA U-20 World Cup slated for 29 July-20 August, 2011 in Colombia

The Rand Stadium has been dumped as a venue for the 2011 African Youth Championships as organisers seek to cut costs.

The majority of matches will be played at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, bar two - Mali v Lesotho (April 23) and Nigeria v Gambia (April 24) – which will be played at Milpark.

These two games form part of the final round-robin matches, which must kick-off at the same time as the corresponding fixture in the group.

Plans to use the Rand Stadium have been scrapped, cutting the costs of a tournament whose budget crisis has already come as an embarrassment to Safa.

South Africa's Under-20 team kick off the tournament on Sunday against Mali, followed immediately by a match between Egypt and Lesotho in Group A.

Group B will kick off with a double-header attraction on Monday.

It will go on until next weekend, after which the top two teams in each group go on to the semi-finals on April 28 with the final to be played on Sunday, May 1.

All matches will have free entry but will be ticketed for safety reasons.

To be fair, this is true. Tickets will be free, but there won't be much interest. I'm just annoyed that the change was made so late.

The problem is wanting to bring every tournament to Gauteng. I guess most people in PE, Mobeombela and Polokwane have never been inside their stadiums and they will grab every opportunity to be in there. So take those free entry games to those cities.
