Hong Kong Dollars are printed by 3 major banks : HSBC, Standard Chartered, and the Bank of China. Each has its own design but the colours are standardized. For example, the Bank of China notes has their skyscraper and the Hong Kong skyline on the front and back. HSBC and Standard Chartered notes have similar designs.

Space elevator

A space elevator, also known as a space bridge, is in a class of spacecraft propulsion technology concepts that are aimed at improving access to space. A space elevator connects a planet's surface with space via a cable. It is also called a geosynchronous orbital tether or a beanstalk (in reference to the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk). today's is a little old but nonetheless awesome

I think todays header image should be a german Unity Day theme (3rd october is the official national holiday in Germany dedicated to the reunification of Germany).

Since it is too late for todays header image, it would be nice to reserve the header image for the 9th november for a german one, because the 9th november is possibly the most important day in german history (exclamation of the "Republic of Weimar" 1918; "Reichskristallnacht" - beginning of the chase of jewish citizens 1938; Fall of the Berlin Wall 1989). If it weren't for the first two events, the 9th november would be the real Unity Day.

Today's header is extremely lame. Is that a city? Looks more like a sprawling wasteland.

Come off it, Xtra. Just because you're not familiar with Barnaul in Siberia doesn't mean it stinks.

Xtra, I believe you know what is sprawling wasteland, because you live in such place.

Bydgoszcz, located in the north central part of Poland along the Brda river, is the capital of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie province. One of Poland's major inland ports, the Bydgoszcz Canal, built 1773-1774, links the Brda river with the Notec river, and is part of the larger Vistula-Oder waterway. This canal is one of the most popular tourist attractions.



Chartered in 1346, the city developed in the Middle Ages on the site of a prehistoric fort. During the 15th and 16th centuries, it became an important trade center. In 1772, it was part of the area taken over by Prussia. In 1919, it was returned to Poland. During World War II, it was occupied by Germany.



Despite the damage suffered during World War II, Bydgoszcz has an architectural heritage representing Eclecticism and Art Nouveau dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The best examples of this are to be found on Gdanska, Cieszkowskiego and Mickiewicza streets. This style also dominates the Old Market Square. On the western end of this square, you can find the gothic St Nicolas church, which dates back to the 15th century.



The city is not only an important administrative center for the province, but also is a major business center with many financial and insurance companies. Bydgoszcz is one of Poland's leading trade fair centers. As an important educational center, future engineers, medical doctors, humanists and musicians all study at local educational institutions.

Jakarta used to be called Batavia during the dutch colonial government. I try to be true to the 1700s/low rise/oldies theme.. thus pretty hard to find the right picture I can compose.

From left to right
- Jakarta Cathedral
- Some postcard, no meaning, just for atmosphere :lol:
- Some dutch school in old Jakarta
- Jakarta Port of Sunda Kelapa (Sundanese Coconut :lol:, its true, they use coconut for a port name).
- Clement de Jonghe's map of Batavia, 1650 :) very small if compared with the size of Jakarta now.
- The VOC headquarter now Jakarta Museum.

Today's header is hopefully what my fair city will look lke in a few years. There are four new buildings on there, two of which are under construction, one proposed, and one approved (though subject to a redesign). There are also many proposals that are not on there, so hopefully it could look even better :)

For those who don't know the reason of todays header image: Today (9th november) is the 15th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. :)

the thing is that that is not smog becuase that shot was taken in the winter (very little smog then), it was morning and it was rather damp that day so i bet it could be moisture or something...but not smog. at least not in that pic.

Interestingly the picture above shows two parts of the wharf cut and joined together in the middle - in actual fact, the left and right parts should be reversed!
