jsl_bxu1206 July 8th, 2011, 08:38 AM Agusan Sur kicks-off Nutrition Month
by David M. Suyao
AGUSAN DEL SUR, July 7 (PIA) -– The Provincial Nutrition Council will focus on breastfeeding as it observes the 37th nutrition month celebration.
Laniebelle Anchangco, chief of the Provincial Nutrition Office of Agusan del Sur, said “We have promoted breastfeeding for so long time ago, but many mothers, especially those who are working, do not practice breastfeeding. But we would like mothers to know that even if they are working, they can still exercise breastfeeding, because their milk is the most precious food that a new born baby need. Mothers’ milk is the most nutritious milk that a baby need, while giving resistance to babies against diseases. Breastfeeding also helps in reducing the risk of pregnancy among mothers,” Anchangco said.
With the theme “Isulong, breastfeeding, tama, sapat, eksklusibo,” municipalities in the province have lined up activities like conducting fora and symposia to schools, demo on kitchen gardening, monitoring of the gulayan ng bayan and the barangay nutrition scholars summit, among others.
On July 26-27, the culmination program will be include poster-making contest, nutri-quiz and cooking contest to be participated by students, parents and all municipal nutrition stakeholders. (PIA-Agusan del Sur)

Bayugan is a Municipality in the province of Agusan del Sur, Philippines. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 95,032 people in 17,222 households.
Bayugan was formerly a sitio of Barangay Maygatasan, Esperanza. Several versions abound on how the sitio got its name. First, the place was located along the river which served as the pathway of the natives in going to Esperanza. "Bayugan" is a Manobo term for pathway, since then the natives called the place, Bayugan. Another version states that "bayug" trees grew abundantly in this place. It was also believed that the natives used to make this place their meeting spot and that the means of gathering the inhabitants was by knocking on a hollow piece of wood which they termed as the "bayug."
In 1942, Japanese troops entered Bayugan.
In 1945, the town of Baguyan in Southern Agusan was liberated by Filipino soldiers and guerrillas from the Japanese forces occupying the town.
In 1948, the Department of Public Works and Highways conducted a survey for a national highway that would connect Butuan with Davao City. Simultaneously, the Bureau of Lands surveyed the places that would be traversed by the proposed road. Possible town sites were identified and among them was Barangay Maygatasan. However, the National highway passed through the sitio of Bayugan instead of Barangay Maygatasan. Migrants started settling in the sitio of Bayugan, thus, prompting the transfer of the proposed town site.
In the early part of 1960, the inhabitants led by Mr. Jose Joson passed a resolution creating the sitio of Bayugan into a regular barrio. In April of that year, Barangay Bayugan was inaugurated with Joson as the Teniente del Barrio. Brought about by the construction of the National Highway which traversed the place, business activity sprouted rapidly in the area.
A year later, barangay officials led by the late Sergio Mullaneda worked out the creation of Bayugan into a regular municipality through the assistance of Governor Democrito O. Plaza, Governor of Agusan. By virtue of Executive Order No. 440 of the late President Carlos P. Garcia, the petition to create the municipality of Bayugan was granted on August 6, 1961. Mr. Mullaneda, the first appointed Municipal Mayor of Bayugan assumed into office on August 6, 1962 during the term of President Diosdado Macapagal.
Bayugan is a transportation highway nexus for the eastern part of Mindanao Island.
Education
Bayugan National Comprehensive High School, or BNCHS, is a comprehensive high school with a population of exactly 5,365 students, and is located on a site that has an area of 2 hectares. The school is currently recognized for its research program in science related topics. "Comprehensive" it is because it offers different curricula such as ESEP (Engineering and Science Education Program) on its 1st Year, Project BEST (Breeding Excellence in Science and Technology), Special Program in Journalism (pilot school for journalism in CARAGA Region), Special Program in the Arts (with the specialization of Visual Arts, Creative Writing, Dancing, Music, Media Arts and Theater Arts), Technical Vocational Courses, Special Program in Sports and Revised Basic Education Curriculum. The school is currently headed by the Secondary School Principal IV, Dr. Wilson C. Calvo.
Agusan del Sur College, or ADSCO, a private non-sectarian, is the only educational institution in the town offering Preparatory, Elementary, High School and College degree courses.
Father Urios Technical Institute of Bayugan Inc.,formerly Father Urios High School-Bayugan,or FUHS, is the oldest private educational institution in the city. Created in the year 1959, Urios caters elementary and secondary basic education. By school year 2010–2011, Urios will be putting up its technical courses.

Cityhood
Recently Bayugan lost its cityhood, along with 15 other cities, after the Supreme Court of the Philippines granted a petition filed by the League of Cities of the Philippines, and declared the cityhood law (RA 9405) which allowed the town to acquire its city status, unconstitutional. The said cities, the court ruled, did not meet the requirements for cityhood. More than a year later, on December 22, 2009, acting on the appeal of the so-called "League of 16 Cities" (of which Bayugan is a part of), the Supreme Court reversed its earlier ruling as it ruled that "at the end of the day, the passage of the amendatory law (regarding the criteria for cityhood as set by Congress) is no different from the enactment of a law, i.e., the cityhood laws specifically exempting a particular political subdivision from the criteria earlier mentioned. Congress, in enacting the exempting law/s, effectively decreased the already codified indicators."[1] As such, the cityhood status of Bayugan is effectively restored.
But on August 24, 2010, in a 16-page resolution, the Supreme Court reinstated its November 18, 2008 decision striking down the Cityhood laws[2] making Bayugan a municipality again.

jsl_bxu1206 July 9th, 2011, 04:00 PM Law enforcers raid 4-ha marijuana farm in Agusan del Sur
BEN SERRANO, GMA News
07/09/2011 | 06:43 PM
Police, army, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) personnel raided a four hectare marijuana plantation in Loreto, Agusan del Sur Thursday evening. As of Saturday, they are still uprooting the full-grown shrubs.
No arrests were made. The raid capped a month of surveillance and intelligence operations, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Butuan, Caraga region.
PNP Caraga said that Agusan del Sur residents informed them that there was a marijuana plantation in Sitio Mactan, Barangay Kasapa 1 in the town of Loreto. The raiding team said they were unable to determine who owns the four-hectare property.
Uprooting of the marijuana plants has taken almost three days because, according to PNP Caraga, the raiding team is short on manpower for the task. They also have to inventory every shrub of the Cannabis sativa —marijuana's scientific name— they pull up from the ground.
Operatives of the 13th Regional Public Safety Battalion of the PNP, the 402nd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, PDEA agents, and local officials comprised the raiding team. — ELR/TJD, GMA News

But on August 24, 2010, in a 16-page resolution, the Supreme Court reinstated its November 18, 2008 decision striking down the Cityhood laws[2] making Bayugan a municipality again.

john kevin July 10th, 2011, 07:16 AM Provincial gov't's 6-month medical mission in motion
by David M. Suyao
http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=1&t=1&id=42622
AGUSAN DEL SUR, July 9 (PIA) – Fifty patients suffering from various illnesses were treated as the six-month medical mission of the provincial government kicked off in June at the D.O. Plaza Memorial Hospital (DOPMH).
Dr. Joel Esparagoza, Provincial Health Officer of the DOPMH, said the group of doctors and medical practitioners performed minor surgeries such as cyst, myoma, boils, harelip and conducted medical consultations. Free medicines were also given out.
All program expenses were shouldered by the provincial government, with counterpart funds from the municipal government of the town where treatments were being held.
Before the schedule is set for every municipality, the municipal health office conducted initial interview with the patients. "If the patient is not qualified for treatment, they were given recommendation for registration at the D.O. Plaza Memorial Hospital in Patin-ay so that we can determine the number of patients that are subject for operation and other treatment. For patients that cannot be treated even here in our hospital, they will be given proper referral to more complete hospital and doctor specialists,” Dr. Esparagoza said.
The medical mission is one of the major activities of Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza administration’s eight point program on health and sanitation. It started since 1992, during the administration of then Gov. Democrito O. Plaza, which was also a component of his five-point program of governance on health and was adopted and continued until at present.
Before the medical mission by the provincial government started last month, District I Representative Maria Valentina Plaza has been extending medical outreach in her district, while District II Representative Evelyn Plaza-Mellana do the same also in her district, both conducted in recipient municipalities. Both outreach ended last May, when the provincial medical mission started.
The first fifty patients treated of their illnesses came from all over the province. Every month thereafter, two municipalities are scheduled to be served until December this year. This month of July, the mission will serve the Municipality of La Paz and the City of Bayugan. (PIA-Agusan del Sur)

jsl_bxu1206 July 11th, 2011, 05:35 PM Farmers undergo intensive training on high value vegetable production
by David M. Suyao
AGUSAN DEL SUR, July 11 (PIA) –- Ten specially trained farmers attended a three-month training on high value vegetable farming in Bukidnon.
The training, with the Department of Agriculture Bukidnon and expert farmers of high value crops from Bukidnon as trainers, was aimed at injecting knowledge to ten farmers on how to plant and nourish good quality vegetables and fruits in order for them to become trainers themselves of their fellow farmers in the province.
Josephine Suelto from Rosario town said, the training really made a difference. Before, she thought planting any vegetables in the backyard is enough for the family and neighbors, but her belief was changed. She learned that quality and high value vegetables and fruits mean additional income and livelihood.
“We were taught what kind of vegetables and fruits we must plant in a kind of soil they are suited. But not just ordinary vegetables that we grow in our area. We were taught where, when and how to plant lettuce, broccoli, onions carrots and other quality and high value vegetables. We know our soils here in the province are suited for growing vegetables, and we believe this program is special for us because we believe, it will really make changes in the life of our vegetable farmers,” Suelto said.
During the farmers' courtesy call to Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza, the local executive challenged them to share their knowledge to other farmers. He said that they will again be sent to other places to study the farming technology if they are able to do this at the soonest possible time, and if they are able to convince the farmers to plant high value crops for better and stable income.
“My office is always open to extend assistance and help for those who can prove themselves to be productive, kind and generous enough to share what they learned to their fellow Agusanons. I am very willing to help anybody who want to progress, while making their community empowered. In this manner, we can expect that our efforts are not wasted, and everybody can give their share in our common struggle for development,” Gov. Plaza said.
The ten farmers came from the municipalities of Esperanza, Bayugan, Prosperidad, Rosario, San Francisco and Veruela. (PIA-Agusan del Sur)

Data for the Year 2009 to follow.. Sorry medyo lisod i-sort ang data sa 2009. :) Hope the rankings would help us discern how Butuan fared vis a vis other cities in Mindanao. Nga pala, notice that in the Top 20 cities (nation-wide) only 3 Mindanao cities were included. It's really sad to see such disparity..
Anyho, eto muna for now :)

by David M. Suyao (http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=7&r=r13&id=43423)
AGUSAN DEL SUR, July 14 (PIA) -- A total of 250 youth trainees from Agusan del Sur will join the joint programme on youth, employment and migration (JP-YEM), a partnership program by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the International Labour Organization.
According to a TESDA memorandum issued by the Executive Director for TVET Systems Development Marta Hernandez, the training is intended for the out-of-school youth, abandoned youth or those separated from families and youth left behind by the OFWs, unemployed high school graduates and returning migrants. Youth 18 to 24 years old, high school graduate or college undergraduate and with annual family income of not more than P120,000 are qualified to join the program.
TESDA has sought the assistance of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office here who in turn asked assistance from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Offices in order to identify the recipient-trainees that will qualify to the requirements.
Recently, Agusan del Sur Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza signed the acknowledgement list and recommendation of trainees prepared by TESDA Provincial Director Joventino Aleta and TESDA Regional Director Edwin Gatinao of the 250 proposed trainees that will take up nine technical courses with employment opportunities either for wage or self-employment in the province and abroad. According to TESDA senior technical specialist Norberto Durado, the trainees will be issued National Certificate level II upon passing the assessment set by TESDA, which is recognized by employers even when applying for technical jobs abroad.
The program, with a budget of P2,371,400 may start as soon as the signing of the service contract and the release of funds from the International Labour Organization shall have been completed this month. (PIA-Agusan del Sur)

jsl_bxu1206 July 17th, 2011, 06:43 AM Weather: Thunderstorms possible in Agusan del Sur
07/16/2011 | 03:19 PM
The state weather bureau warned Saturday afternoon of possible thunderstorms in parts of Agusan del Sur province in Mindanao.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said thunderstorms are possible in Bunaguit, Loreto, and Esperanza.
PAGASA posted the advisories for Bunaguit and for Loreto and Esperanza on its Twitter account.
Earlier, PAGASA said tropical depression “Hanna" had moved out of Philippine territory but may merge with incoming typhoon “Ma-on."
The state weather forecaster, however, said “Ma-on" will not likely directly affect any part of the country.
“Ma-on" will be codenamed “Ineng" once it enters Philippine territory, likely on Sunday.

john kevin July 22nd, 2011, 02:41 PM Bayugan really is not that rich sa infrastructure but the income,.. i dunno ug asa na gikan because for a component 4 year old city like bayugan ..dako jud kaayo ang annual income ..hope mudaghan pa jud ang infras in bayugan kay gasugod naman jud ug build ug commercial complexes ..dugay ra jud na ang san francisco nga mas syudad pa tan.awon sa bayugan since it is the commercial center sa AgSur ..but bayugan has greater income than san franz and has far greater population thats why bayugan ang gipili sa SC to be the component city of agsur ..it would be hard for SF na ..give or take 10-15 years before ma syudad because sa bag.o nga law sa SC about cityhood ..dungan2 jud na sila sa prosperidad ma syudad ..

jsl_bxu1206 July 23rd, 2011, 08:08 AM Agusan del Sur official says presence of gov’t troops means more investment opportunities
by Robert E. Roperos
BUTUAN CITY, July 22 (PIA) –- Citing the important role of the government troops in the province of Agusan del Sur, Vice-Governor Santiago Cane recently said the presence of the 402nd Brigade in the province means more investment opportunities.
Speaking before the government troops of the brigade and guests from different sectors of society, Vice-Gov. Cane underscored the gallantry and sacrifices made by the soldiers in upholding peace and security in the province.
The official said if there peace and security is present, then investors will likely our in investments that will help the spur the economic condition of the Agusanons. “If there is already an assurance that there is already peace and that we could already give security to investors, then investments will likely pour in the province, which is known for its richness in agricultural products,” Cane said.
The official further said if investments are already in, “then jobs generation will likely follow, thus, will help in the poverty alleviation program of the provincial government,” he added.
It may be recalled that during the Regional Development Council Meeting held recently in Surigao del Sur, the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) reported that Caraga Region still remains to be on top of the list of the poorest regions in the country with Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Norte as among the poorest provinces.
However, Cane said, this will serve as a challenge not only to the provincial government of the said provinces but as well as to all the people in Caraga Region to strive hard and bring the development in the region.

jsl_bxu1206 July 23rd, 2011, 12:16 PM Construction of 13,000 armchairs for public schools being rushed
by Eric F. Gallego
BUTUAN CITY, July 22 –- Skilled workers are rushing up the manufacture of more than 13,000 armchairs in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur to satisfy the needs of several public elementary schools in Mindanao.
The move came after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) had turned-over on Thursday about 1,598 cubic meters of confiscated logs to the Department of Education and Culture and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority in a simple ceremony held at the Agusan del Sur School of Arts and Trade ( ASSAT) in Barangay Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
The donated logs was accepted by Nardo C. Mariano, ASSAT Vocational School Administrator from DENR Undersecretary for Field Operations Atty. Ernesto D. Adobo, Jr.who was represented by Director IV Sammy Carpio and witnessed by the DENR-13 Regional Executive Director Leonardo R. Sibbaluca, TESDA Regional Director Edwin C. Gatinao and the Director of DepED Caraga Gloria D.Benigno.
DENR Secretary Ramon JP Paje said that as part of the agreement, the confiscated forest products which run up to about 1.37 million board feet of flitches and lumber that came mostly from Caraga Region , were being donated to the DepED for the construction of school buildings, chairs, and desks to meet the shortages of school facilities of public schools in the rural areas.
The TESDA would provide the necessary skills to manufacture the armchairs and other school facilities while the Philippine Amusement and Game Corporation (PAGCOR) will provide fund for the purchase of the needed tools and equipment by the TESDA.
Paje said that “ this is the commitment of the President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III to meet the shortages of facilities like armchairs in public schools particularly in the rural areas. “ Gustong makita ni Presidente Aquino na wala ng batang mag-aaral na walang upuan o desk” he said.
The DENR Regional Executive Directors in Mindanao were ordered earlier to inventory all confiscated wood products in line with the directive that all seized illegal forest products be donated to the DepEd.
DENR-13 RED Sibbaluca said the DENR has confiscated a total of 19,207 pieces of logs with a total volume of 6,850.92 cu.meters that are deposited at the different military and PNP camps for safekeeping.
He said the school site where these armchairs are being manufactured could not contain the entire confiscated logs therefore its turn-over would depend on the production capacity of the workers.
Initially, he said, the DENR has turned over about 1,598.715 cubic meters of mixed dipterocarp which were confiscated in Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur. ‘ We hope that the TESDA could accelerate its production capacity considering the deterioration factor of the stored logs brought about by the elements of weather.
According to TESDA Production Supervisor Florilo Logonio, PAGCOR has committed to deliver 22 pieces of equipment before the end of this year to augment its present equipment and facilities which could only produce at least 120 pieces of armchairs per week.
“We need additional 100 workers to work on 13,000 arm chairs over a period of 12 weeks granting that the equipment from PAGCOR will be made available” he said.
DepEd-13 Regional Director Gloria D. Benigno said the Provincial Governor of Agusan del Sur has also promised to donate 1,000 chairs to the DepEd.
Meanwhile, RED Sibbaluca has reported that during the recent meeting the Chairperson of the Regional Development Council and Governor of Surigao del Norte Dr. Sol F. Matugas has asked the support of all provincial governors in the five provinces of Region 13 to donate chairs to the DepEd similar to donation made by Governor Plaza of Agusan del Sur where a total of 4,000 arm chairs were distributed to the different public schools in Agusan del Sur. jsl_bxu1206 July 26th, 2011, 12:57 PM Tagalog News: P2 bilyon pondo inilaan sa OFW

john kevin July 27th, 2011, 05:34 AM Agusan del Sur official says presence of gov’t troops means more investment opportunities
by Robert E.

Plaza in New Leyte, Awa, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
(PIA-Caraga)

jsl_bxu1206 July 28th, 2011, 06:57 AM New approach on info management set by PPIO Agsur
by David M. Suyao
AGUSAN DEL SUR, July 27 (PIA) -- The Agusan del Sur Provincial Public Information Office (PPIO) has spent two days formulating plans and strategies in order to become more effective and efficient in the delivery of information that the Agusanons need to be updated on what the local government units are doing, from the municipal, provincial and national levels.
Speaking before an audience composed of personnel under his direct supervision, Alfredo “Nonoc” Plaza, manager of the PPIO differentiated “oljorn” and “mojorn” in terms of speed and cost of delivering information.
“Oljorn” stands for a old journalism, where a writer spent hours gathering data, and another countless hours typing the news using the old typewriter, before sending the article to base, taking another day before the base could receive the article. On the other hand, the “mojorn” stands for modern journalism, where a journalist spends a little time covering the event or gathering data, using modern equipments and facilities, and in an instant, sending the articles, even with pictures and footages to base ready for printing and airing.
“What I mean on this is, our office has the commitment both to the provincial government, the people of Agusan del Sur and all those who can be reached by our media, (the DXDA and the National Broadcasting Network (NBN) to deliver the information that affect their daily lives, and could trigger participation among them. It is therefore our responsibility to equip ourselves with updated knowledge and capability to deliver the information as interesting and as educational as they are in a very descent and timely way,” Plaza said.
The offices under the PPIO namely the provincial library, radio station DXDA, the NBN and the public affairs and media relations office, were then divided according to their assignments and were subjected to prepare their annual plans, targets and activities based on the strategic planning balance scorecard set by the provincial government.
The workshop outputs workshop will be consolidated by the representatives from the four sections of PPIO and presented to Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza.
The two-day workshop ended on a high note as participants looked forward to providing better service to their customers, especially the people of Agusan del Sur. (PIA-Agusan del Sur)

jsl_bxu1206 July 29th, 2011, 03:11 PM Agusan Sur now has 22 'model of excellence' schools
by David M. Suyao
AGUSAN DEL SUR, July 29 (PIA) – The Model of Excellence schools in Agusan del Sur now reached to 22, while another six are scheduled to be launched until the end of August this year.
Among these are the Sinobong Elementary School and Sayon Elementary School in the Municipality of Veruela, East Bayugan Central Elementary School in Bayugan City, and the Esperanza Central Elementary School in Esperanza town and the Bunawan West Central Elementary School in the Municipality of Bunawan.
The recognition of various elementary schools as model of excellence schools in Agusan del Sur is part of the “Pagtoon Alang sa Masanag ng Kaugmaon Program of the provincial government o Agusan del Sur (PGAS) in partnership with the Department of Education.
The program is an intervention of raising and enhancing the academic performance of the pupils, thus, making them highly performing individuals, according to the local government website.
“Preparation of the future is only part of our main thrust in this Pagtoon program. eskeryon August 1st, 2011, 11:43 PM Female police chief to be honored in PNP anniversary celebration

MANILA, Philippines - The courage of a female police chief in Agusan del Sur in leading her personnel to repel the attack of about 250 communist New People’s Army (NPA) rebels last Saturday will add meaning to the celebration of the 110th police anniversary on Aug. 8.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Raul Bacalzo said he would personally extend the commendaton to Inspector Charity Galvez, police chief of Trento town in Agusan del Sur.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity of personally extending my commendation to Police Inspector Galvez and her men for the courageous defense of their town. Their heroism will continue to be a source of pride for the 140,000-strong PNP where heroes are born each day,” Bacalzo said.
Bacalzo immediately reported to President Aquino the accomplishment of Galvez and the Trento police force.
“As chief of the PNP, it is with great pride that I report to the Commander-in-Chief, President Aquino, the gallant stand put up by our police troops against a large force of NPA rebels who went on another looting and shooting rampage in Agusan del Sur on Saturday morning,” Bacalzo said.
PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said, “Galvez’s accomplishment will add color, if not meaning, to the police service day.”
The PNP is set to celebrate on Aug. 8 the 110th police service anniversary based on data from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. The insular police force started on Aug. 8, 1901.
Bacalzo said they are making preparations for the event, noting that they could look into their history and then replicate the best practices learned since 1901.
Two policemen, Police Officer 1 Joel Lazarte and PO3 Mhel Hubo, were wounded in the gunbattle in Trento while the police station’s utility worker, Salvador Rall Jr., was killed in the attack.
The NPA raiders also suffered heavy casualties.
“I have directed Caraga Regional Director Chief Superintendent Reynaldo Rafal to ensure immediate medical and financial assistance to the wounded personnel as well as to the lone casualty,” Bacalzo said.
Bacalzo said he has instructed the Director for Integrated Police Operations (DIPO) in Eastern Mindanao to mount a region-wide pursuit operation against the NPA group that scampered off in different directions, leaving behind two wounded NPA fighters who were promptly given medical attention while in custody of security forces.
Meanwhile, the military reported that 12 NPA rebels were killed during an encounter with Army troops in Loreto, Agusan del Sur last Sunday.
Maj. Eugenio Osias IV, spokesman for the Army’s 4th Division, said the clash happened at the boundary of barangays Kauswagan and Sto. Niño in Loreto town. – With Alexis Romero

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Philippines — Utilizing the Philippine Air Force’s (PAF) helicopter wing, the command center of the Army’s 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade (402nd IB) inserted more combat maneuvering troops in the war zone in an effort to encircle the communist-New People’s Army (NPA) now holding their position within the mountainous and forested areas of Kauswagan and Binocayan, both of Loreto town, Agusan del Sur province.
At least two Huey gunship helicopters made their several sorties in inserting combat troops from the 402nd IB and 4th Division DRC while two MG-520 attack helicopters also extended air cover to the deployed ground troops.
Currently, elements of 26th Infantry Battallion are pursuing the running NPA rebels in the area, who attempted to attack the municipal police stations of Veruela and Loreto on Sunday or Monday, both located in the municipal boundary of Compostela Valley (ComVal) and Davao del Norte.
Col. Rodrigo T. Diapana, commanding officer of the Army’s 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade said the objective of the deployed combat troops is to crush the running guerilla-Front Committees 33 and 34 of the CPP-NPA Southern Mindanao Regional Party Committee (SMRC).
“The red fighters of front committees 33 and 44 had their own separate mission, and they supposed to attack the towns of Veruela and Loreto. However we aborted their plan to attack these towns,” he said.
“The attack of Trento last Saturday was a separate mission by other guerilla committees of the communist movement,” said Col. Diapana.
The Brigade commander also deployed war earth-moving equipments here to extend more fire power to the operating troops now currently pursuing close to 100 NPA guerillas in Binocayan and Kauswagan areas.
Maj. Gen. Victor A. Felix, commanding general of the Army’s Fourth Infantry (Diamond) Division on Monday ordered Col. Diapana to use all his combat maneuvering troops in putting an end to the alleged atrocities and extortion activ-ities of the NPA’s in Agusan del Sur and neighboring provinces.
Since Sunday morning fierce gunbattle in Binocayan area, various reports coming from mountain village folks that reaches the command center of 402nd IB stated that the NPAs already suffered some 20 fatalities and 17 other rebels were critically wounded.

jsl_bxu1206 August 7th, 2011, 08:00 AM Agusan tillers get land titles
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
August 6, 2011, 4:26pm
PATIN-AY, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, Philippines – Poor farmers in this town were teary eyed and brimming with happiness as they received and waved the land titles they personally received from the provincial government the other day.
Along with their respective children, the 125 farmers at Barangay Aurora here are now proud to be called land owners of the land they tilled.
Aurora Barangay Chairman Rodolfo Obguia, along with village officials and hundreds of village folks, also witnessed the handing of land titles to the poor farmers.
The fast-tracking in the distribution of land titles to the farmers was personally spearheaded by Agusan del Sur Gov. Adolph Edward G. Plaza.
Aside from the land titles, Aurora farmers were also jubilant following the rehabilitation of the road from the national highway to Barangay Aurora.
During the distribution of land titles, what caught the regional and provincial officials including Plaza’s attention were the big number of children who cheered when they saw their respective parents receiving their land titles.
“I have been in almost all barangays in the province but your barangay is one of the most children-populated barangays in Agusan del Sur,” said the provincial Chief Executive.
“It is not a joke to have plenty of children to nurture and prepare their bright future. So I appeal to all of the couples here to control yourselves in order to control the rapid population of children in your barangay. For those children who are in school, do your best to excel in you studies, because your provincial government is granting scholarships to deserving students. What you have to do is pass the requirements, and you will enjoy free college education for a better future,” Plaza said.

I wish PSI Galvez may receive the PNP Medalya ng Kagitingan, the highest award for gallantry or a PNP Medalya ng Kabayanihan since she led the repulsion of the enemy of overwhelming strength as compared to theirs..Anyway, congrats and mabuhay!!!

Yes, I know kay ako ug ang ubang NIA engineers ang nag layout sa park during the time of Mayor Romeo Billanes. Kini nga area used to be a swamp. Naay daghan lotus, palaw (paw) ug water lilies ug gitambakan ug bali 150 ka dumptrucks nga bas gikan sa Bahayan River. I am just saying what most of the people in Trento are saying about their Plaza Park.
Then ang Bayugan Uno nahimong Bayugan City pero like the thirteen cities na revert sila into towns mao nga ang istorya nga ang Bayugan City nahimo nang Bayugan Says (6).

jsl_bxu1206 August 16th, 2011, 08:08 AM PHO-Agusan del Sur bares awards and recognition
by David M. Suyao
AGUSAN DEL SUR, August 15 (PIA) -- On July 28 this year, Dr. Joel Esparagoza, Provincial Health Officer and chief of the D. O. Plaza Memorial Hospital received from the Department of Health (DOH) Caraga Region an award recognizing the provincial health office for achieving the highest immunization coverage in Caraga Region on Measles Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MRSIA) for 2011, with 98.12 percent. Before that, Caraga Center for Health and Development was also recognized as the number one performer in the entire country, and Agusan del Sur is the highest in the entire region. But before anyone knows, PHO-Agusan del Sur has been consistently on the top since 2004 delivering the same services.
Another award that the PHO-Agusan del Sur presented during the Monday flag raising ceremony is the plaque of recognition for its management in sustaining the revolving trust fund that started in 2003 called the local health system development fund (LHSD), funded by the Inter-local Health zone, the DOH, the health sector reform project and the provincial hospital trust fund funded by the provincial government.
The LHSD was established through a District Health Board Resolution No. 01 series of 2002 requesting the five-member municipal LGUs to allocate funds for medicines and supplies for Philhealth-enrolled patients including medicare sa masa admitted at the D. O. Plaza Memrial Hospital. As result, seed capital reached up to more than P1.8 Million where P205,000 as five- municipal LGUs share, P100,000 Center for Health and Development-Caraga share, P1 Million from Health Sector Reform Project share and another P500,000 from the provincial government of Agusan del Sur. The P500,000 will be sourced-out from the hospital income every year after the provincial government gave the amount as seed money.
Another recognition received by the PHO-AdS is the amount of P997,400 handed over to Dr. Esparagoza by the DOH-Caraga as DOH counterpart for the enrolment of 1,629 indigent families who were recognized based on the Community-Based Management System.
To date, Agusan del Sur is recognized to have reached universal coverage required by Philhealth, where Philhealth Sabado program has contributed much. (PIA-Agusan del Sur)
