Agusan del Sur children took over the provincial governance
AGUSAN DEL SUR, Oct. 18 -- Some 85 youth leaders from all over the province will today run government affairs in the province of Agusan del Sur as mandated under Article 4, section 46 of Ordinance No. 16, series of 2002, which declared every third Monday of October as children’s day of governance/administration.

An election of youth provincial officials, including the selection of the different chiefs of offices, was conducted on October 16 to cap the two-day Childrens Congress. While the youths were attending to lectures on values formation, election returns were counted and later the elected young officials were proclaimed. A “panunumpa sa katungkulan” or swearing into office followed immediately.

Feature: The Social Significance of Agusan Marsh:

In a forum conducted recently, Dr. Rex Linao, Chairman of Agusan Development Foundation Inc. (ADF) said that the Agusan Marsh has eight (8) features that make it important in sustaining human life.

First, the Agusan Marsh is a catch basin of waters from Davao Region, Bukidnon and Surigao del Sur. "We can just imagine the damages that the flood waters during rainy season from the above mentioned areas would bring to Agusan del Sur and Butuan City,” Dr. Linao said.

Second, it is the home of an indigenous people since the 16th century. Dr. Linao said, that during the Spanish regime, the natives stood their ground against officials who ordered them to evacuate Bunawan and Talacogon towns.

traffic pa kay murag naay u/c sa mga streets cguro.. like concreting maybe... antos antos lang sa kay once ma complete na ang concreting sa mga streets diha.. hanutoy na ang dagan sa mga trikes... pero dapat butangan na og traffic light aron libil up na sa mga components cities diri sa cAraga ang San Franz... :D naa bayay dili kadawat intawon diri about sa progress.. :baeh3:

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Oct. 27 (PIA) -- Cong. Evelyn “Bebs” Plaza Millana recently led the ground breaking of a multi-purpose building in Barangay Taglikid, Bayugan 2, San Francisco Agusan del Sur in time with the Children’s Month celebration.

The lady solon set aside some P500,000 for the construction of the said MP building.

Antonio Baldecorza, chairman of Answering the Cry of the People (ANCOP) otherwise known as Gawad Kalinga, whose members are mostly couples for Christ, said they requested the building in order to have a proper place where people can convene and discuss their problems and present their ideas for the development of their community and the government.

Agusan del Sur LGU beefs up local folks’ livelihood programs

BUTUAN CITY, Dec. 7 (PIA) -- In an effort to uplift the economic condition of the province, the local government unit of Agusan del Sur is strengthening livelihood programs and opportunities for its constituents.

In an interview with a local radio station here, Agusan del Sur provincial veterinarian Dr. Joriz Elevazo admitted that carabeef supply is running low as the Yuletide season approaches.

he province of Agusan del Sur is the main source of carabeef in Caraga Region.

Thus, the provincial government is introducing other livelihood programs such as hog raising, poultry, and swine upgrading so that local folks in the province can still find other means of business opportunities, said Elevazo. (PIA-Caraga)

Hey guys, I have heard over PAGASA and historians that the last destructive flood in CDO River was in 1916...so I looked over Fr. Selga's chronologies of typhoons in the Philippines and I found a most likely "storm" that ran a similar track with SENDONG. this 1916 typhoon made a hit in Cateel, Davao Oriental (one of the towns near Bislig, where SENDONG made landfall). Take note that the behavior, track and places affected are almost similar to TS SENDONG presently, but this 1916 is not just a tropical storm but a typhoon judging on the barometric measures at Cateel

16-24 January 1916

Track:
Guam, Cateel, Mindanao, Agusan Province, Ebro, Los Martires to Veruela, Gracia

It originated SSW of Guam, moved W and entered very close to or over Cateel. Then it remained stationary and gradually filled up within Mindanao. The floods and subsequent losses that occurred in Mindanao were very heavy; plantations were washed away, bridges destroyed and houses carried away, resulting in loss of life in many cases. Barometric minimun at Cateel was 747 mm. Many rivers of Mindanao rose rapidly over 6, 7, 8 meters and caused great destruction to houses, live stock, crops, and roads. Agusan Province suffered most, the rivers rising 7 to 8 meters so much so that the region from Ebro and Los Martires to Veruela and Gracia was transformed into a great lake, where only the tops of the trees were visible.

i know Veruela is a Municipality now katabi ng Sta Josefa & Loreto part of Agusan del Sur.. yung iba baka hindi naging munisipyo baka barangay lang sila now..

Fish rain down on Agusan del Sur town

MANILA, Philippines – Small fish reportedly fell from the sky during a downpour in the municipality of Loreto, Agusan del Sur Friday morning.

Residents of Poblacion village in Loreto were shocked to see the fish fall from the sky.

They said around 72 small fish fell from the sky, which were immediately collected and placed in an aquarium.

Loreto Vice Mayor Jorge Legaspi said the fishes bore tiny spots but they have yet to determine its specie.

Local officials, meanwhile, have yet to determine the cause of the rare phenomenon. -- Report from Charmane Awitan, ABS-CBN News Caraga
This was also reported in GMA News but I hope somebody out there has a video of this tasty phenomenon. I'm wishing it would rain eels and giant hito here at home. Mmm... grilled eel and spicy hito sa gata. :lol::eat:

From its description, if its a small fish with tiny dots then it would be a native guppy. However only the male specie have dots. If it is a bit bigger then it might be a two spot barb fish which we commonly called as "paitan". If it has two spots and have whiskers then its a gourami. These three species are abundant in Agusan del Sur's water areas.

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Jan. 31 (PIA) -- The province of Agusan del Sur will soon implement the “Tingog 2015” (Voice 2015): A citizen’s action for governance, after two program coordinators conducted an orientation here recently.

National program coordinator of joint program on youth and migration Ruth Honculada said, the “Tingog 2015” is a project designed for people to directly send their concerns and feedback to national officials of government on the effect of government programs that focus on the youth and migration through text messages.

“With the implementation of the Medium Term Development Goal, we are expecting people’s participation thru their feedback in the process, in order that the government can deliver their real needs that have great impact in their lives,” Honculada said.

According to Millennium Development Goal (MDG) campaign and advocacy specialist Dulce Marie Saret, only two in the entire country were chosen to implement the program and Agusan del Sur is one and the other one is Tabaco in Albay.

Dulce Marie Sarit said, Agusan del Sur was chosen because the province is an MDG champion. It has alsoa complete and updated community based monitoring system data and a United Nations priority area. Dynamic media presence is also observed and above all, Agusan del Sur has an empowered citizenry.

According to Ruth Honculada, communications equipment will be installed at the provincial capitol with the capacity to receive feedback from the people through text messages. In this manner, Honculada added, the government will know if the government programs and projects that deal with the youth and migration really reached and benefitted the right beneficiaries.

“Its very simple and easy for the people to send their messages thru text. They just text the message or report and send them to 2015. That’s how simple it is,” Honculada said.

According to Dulce Marie Saret, the MDG is a government program designed to reduce poverty, environmental protection, malnutrition, protection on the rights of women and many others, where Philippines is one of the signatories among 189 countries that aims to fulfil the dream for a better life.
