Modern Western-style houses in China just seems wrong to me. If I had the money, I would design a modern Chinese-style house.

No offense, but some of it just have too much decoration and have no design aspects at all. Take picture 3 for example, gold design on the outside and purple house? Look at picture 4, red roof tops with pink tiles and green windows? It just doesnt match. On the 5th picture the houses are just right.

Looks kinda tasteless, I imagine Chinese style houses built somewhere in Paris or Berlin, it would look "strange" just like those "Western" style in Fujian ;)

Some rich chinese houses, which i find tasteless as well. Some of them was nice, but most of them looks like a boring place to live. Wounder what the architects had in mid when they made the rederings...:|

Only the building at the left corner bottom in picture 1 is typical&traditional in Fujian. Actually, this post is really one-sided.

Well, it's not the point how big or expensive the house is. Culture, good taste, style, refined perception and pride of your own culture, etc. cannot be bought with money. It's all about education!

Finally, the land where my grandparents come from....

I do believe I still have a lot of Fujianese culture in me despite being born in a lovely Indonesia.

I would go back to visit one of these days...Look at those mountaineous and hilly terrains.... :)

Listen, folks, don't be too harsh on hanhwang (or his parents), OK? :angel1:

I admit I'm surprised to see these "un-Chinese" new housing projects going up in China, too, and I'm sure this is not the only new housing development area of its kind in the entire vast country.

Face it, and it's true, my friends: local architectural styles are rapidly being supplanted by some sort of global architecture. :bash: Local architectural styles with their characteristic features are vanishing and dying. :( Be it single homes, apartment buildings, or supermarket type complexes: the same style from Stockholm via SeattleSao Paolo and Sydney to Singapore and Shanghai and beyond ... the "international style" is taking over, and it truly is a tragedy.

One reason why I visit the Asian forums with such pleasure is that your buildings don't look like the ones in Europe and the US. :master:

It's sad to think that these difference are being effaced even as I write this.

@hanhwang: I sincerely hope that you and your family will be happy in your new home and spend many pleasant years together.

I don't think indonesia is a lovely place any more since I heard about Schepell Corpy's unfair verdict...
Do be careful living in Australia. I guess many Aussies are now very sick of this country.
