why on earth does basra need so many stadiums???

I mean they could have used the "sports city" as their new stadium, and there are 2 football stadiums there under construction already.

why not dredge the canals, build apartments, sewage network, hell maybe even a landfill for the cesspit of a city that Basra has become???

3 LARGE football stadiums at the same time?? what are their priorities???

details...

Kansas City-based 360 Architecture has won contracts to design two large soccer stadiums in Iraq with a combined value of $170 million.

The sports architecture firm, which won a contract two years ago to design a $500 million sports complex for the southern port city of Basra, Iraq, will be teaming with Anwar Soura General Contracting Company on the additional projects.

Both soccer stadiums will have a capacity for 30,000 spectators. One is planned for Najaf, a city about 100 miles north of Baghdad; the other is planned for Al-Menaa, a suburb of Basra. The Najaf stadium will cost about $83.75 million, the Al-Menaa facility, $86 million.

The firm announced its selection by the Iraq Ministry of Youth today.

“We are excited an honored to serve the needs of the ministry and partner with one of Iraq’s leading builders in Anwar Soura,” George Heinlein, a 360 senior principal, said in a statement.

You are right, but what they usually take into account, is the operations they do at the beginning like soil tests and other secondary operations like bringing caravans or buying vehicles, not mentioning the pillar tests they did earlier. So if we take that all in mind, plus the lying and propaganda they usually do ... it is around 10% in reality. Stadium is around 3%.

It was suppose to be the second stadium for the gulf cup in Basrah. Thats one, two, would you please be more careful and say something like: i hope they build one in baghdad too instead of saying things like, why in basra! ... iraq's budget is coming from basra for gods sake!

I'm saying it because there is only one big club there.. You understand me now? They could use the money on building other great things in Basra which would be more useful.

The problem is that this place is considered one of the highly demanded neighborhoods in Basra, it will cost quite a fortune to buy all the houses there. But the government should do it.

there is going to be more than 6 pitchs (4 training fields, 2 stadiums, polo field) in the BSS. It should accommodation at least 4 clubs. It could also be rented out for private sports groups.

The Minaa stadium should be able to accommodation two clubs.

bruv, building stadiums is not about feasibility/viability, if that were the case we wouldn't have 20 or so off them under construction within the span of 1/2 years while still lacking adequate sewage/electricity networks.

Stadiums are big, shiny, happiness machines. people see them and think that all is well, that they're not getting robbed left, right an center.

so if you see so many stadiums in Basra, don't be surprised, with their petro dollars, share of investment commission and provincial share of the budget its nothing.

well my point is that Basra has already built a huge sport city! Why build another stadium for Minaa FC (which is also Olympic) while you have just built a top modern one in the same city.

Just look in Baghdad all the main clubs, which by far have the biggest fan-base in Iraq, just play in one stadium..

which sucks. Although there should be priorities, But all these stadiums will be occupied. There are tens of clubs that are looking for places to play/train. even junior level clubs have no real football pitch's to play.
The stadiums may be even be used to set up football schools. The intention is not exclusively for the premier league clubs to play on, they have many other uses.

Baghdad needs atleast 5 stadiums to fill it's needs.

But perhaps they should fix the sewage systems and roads before focusing too much on stadiums.

exactly, stadiums, olympic ones to be more specific are not just for premier division football.

besides baghdad does have several high-quality stadiums UC or soon to be UC.

lets see:

Sadr city stadium
Al-Talaba Stadium
Al-Zawraa Stadium
Al-Russafa Stadium
Tajiyat Stadium

+

all the other smaller ones UC as well as Mal3ab Al Sha3ab.

Thanks for the clarification. Its actually great idea now that the workers who have worked on the BSC have acquired a lot of experience from working with foreigners and I think even their working methods will be much faster than before. even the foreign workers can be switched from projects to project instead of going back home.
