View Full Version : Travelling to Budapest
skysdalimit April 3rd, 2011, 07:37 PM Hello all!
I'll be coming to Budapest in early June and I have a few questions regarding accommodations and attractions. I'm a 22 year old male traveling with a 22 year old male and 22 year old female. We will be in Budapest for 2 nights and one full day of seeing the sites. I know this may not be enough time to see everything, but our itinerary only allows for such a short time period.
I don't know too much about Budapest, but I do know there are two sides: Buda (more residential and green) and Pest (more commercial and dense). I'd like to stay in an area that's convenient to transit, attractions, and nightlife. Which side would you suggest I stay in?
Also, which sites would you suggest be on my priority list for my one day in Budapest? Keep in mind that I'm young, enjoy history, beer, architecture, and craziness.
Thanks, and I look forward to perhaps seeing you soon in Budapest!
Bikes April 3rd, 2011, 09:43 PM I would suggest to stay around the 6th district in a high rated hostel (use hostelworld.com or hostelbookers.com - I used both a lot of times to book; check the price differences). You will spend most of your time around the 6th / 7th district in the typical Budapest bars like Instant (http://www.instant.co.hu/en) and Szimpla (http://www.szimpla.hu/) drinking Pálinka (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pálinka) and beers. The rest of the information you will get in your hostel or you will read it up on Wikitravel while on the way to Hungary.
Vikusz April 3rd, 2011, 09:57 PM It doesnt really matter, which side of the city your accomodtion is located. It's easy to cross the city with metro or tram in the daytime, at night the easiest way to go home by taxi. But if your main aime is to go party, the Pest side is better. More tourist attraction can be found on the Pest side, so both reasons lead you to book your accommodation in Pest.
The list of the tourist attractions: http://budapest-travel-guide.info/
I hope we can make your journey better with our help. Have fun!
Bikes April 3rd, 2011, 11:19 PM Taxi is cheap (if you don't get ripped off as a foreigner) that's true, but with your limited time it's better not to waste it with finding solutions for transport. Just stay around Oktogon and you will have the most important attractions in walkway and the bars too. I just had a friend over here from Germany for a week, she hardly used any public transport (if at all). Weather was beautiful though - this is not guaranteed in Budapest :)

Ezt eredetileg is tudtad, vagy a válaszom adott útmutatót?
Bevallom, én nem láttam a filmet, 10 perces "profi" guglozás eredménye a válaszom. Nem volt könnyű.

Igen tudtam. Jellegzetes torzó, aki egyszer látta annak könnyű. Meg a magyar modern építészet történetének is része.
skysdalimit April 27th, 2011, 05:28 AM Howdy all, I placed my reservation for Carpe Noctem hostel. Do any of you know of this hostel and is it in a convenient area to see all the sights of Budapest? I believe it's near the train station (Nyugati pályaudvar).
Thanks!
Bikes April 27th, 2011, 09:34 AM Yeah it's perfect. I live nearby also, you can walk anywhere from there.
