I've just been appointed temporary Media Manager for the Port Adelaide Football Club.

Anyone who knows anything about football, will know that momentum in football can almost be impossible to stop when a team gets it going.

On behalf of the PAFC, I would like to thank all the morons who ran onto the ground last night to thank Fraser Gehrig for kicking his 100th goal for the season. Not only did you stop your team's momentum, but you allowed Port Adelaide to regroup.

Why oh why oh why would you run onto the field and disrupt your very own team's momentum knowing that momentum is a strong force to combat, and knowing that Port Adelaide were shaky given their finals' history? At the time St Kilda were 14 points up, and after 8 minutes of play, Port only had 3 possessions. Port didnt look like getting it past their half back line. With the momentum on your side, another two goals to get a 4 goal lead would have really made Port go into their shell and just as importantly would have silenced their big parochial crowd.

When all the ferals ran onto the ground, I saw the Port players form in a huddle, obviously re-grouping and obviously talking tactics. And look what happened...play resumes, and bang bang...Port kicks two goals in 2 minutes. After that, they were right back in it.

Its okay to run onto the ground when a player from your team kicks a Century, but for fuck sakes, in a Preliminary Final when you have the momentum against the hot favourite on their home ground??? As Rex Hunt said on 3AW last night, this is 'dick headism' at its finest.

What did those St Kilda fans who werent there think when they saw it? I saw it and laughed and thought 'you idiots'.

It reminds me of a match between the brisbane bears and north melbourne, maybe 10 years back or so. Brisbane had all the momentum, and were within striking distance of completing a memorable comeback. A north player went down, but was okay - but denis pagan sent out the stretcher anyway. All the momentum was lost, north hung on to win the match.

When I was watching last nights game, I remembered that game, because I was thinking Chocko would be half pleased if one of his fringe players took a knock or something and slowed the game down. But even better, the St Kilda fans did it for him. Dullards :D

I know I was thumping the couch !!! Maxy Hudgton was also yelling at fans to piss off..

In the end I don't think it affected the game too much - at least it happened early - though it's lovely to think what might have been had we kept that momentum and not let Port come back..

Cant wait till 2005 !!

St kilda should have won. Port got too many easy free kicks. I hate Port. Wanganeen shitts me and so does Lade, Williams, Brogan, Tredrae etc. I hope Brisbane flogs them.

We came close, and I tell you it would have been little easier if we had made it. I say with a fair amount of confidence that Geelong are one key forward away from being a top 2 team, given our eveness all over the rest of the ground we just need that stability up forward. Backing that point, we had something like 69 inside 50s against 40 for Brisbane tonight, with a strong marking forward that could easily have gotten us an extra 4 goals or so. I guess it wasn't to be... but if we can pick up one over trade or draft periods then watch out in 2005!

Full credit to the Lions though, they deserve it after such a good season as much as we would have.

Yes the Catter played well and held the Lions down for most of the match, but the Lions are chock full of star power and they are a class act, I don't know if I wanna see them win 4 in a row though!
