Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo are not even considered!
Well, I think they cannot be compared to well-developed systems like the Mexican one. Or Brazil is not Latin America?

Mexico city for its extensive system and Santiago for its design but not BA. A pretty small system considering its size and the history of the city.
But I have to confess, my first thought when I say the poll was, Where the hell is SaoPaulo?

The Buenos Aires one looks almost identical to the Milan's one. Even the font of the signals is the same.

Was it build by the same constructors?

I can't believe you don't know about São Paulo. It's true, it's not a famous city, but it's is just the largest city in south america and the 3ª of the world. It has 10,5 million people living in the city and almost 19 milion in the metropolitan area. The subway sistem is the 3ª faster in the world, behind Paris and Prague ( the headway is less than 100 seconds ). The network is small: + or - 50 km, but its very busy: 2,8 million people per day ( buenos aires subway has a similar network in extension and is used for 1 million people ). Its very modern, safety and clean. I can post some photos here after, if somebody want. Caracas swbay was inspired in São Paulo sistem. We send some engenneers to there to help then in the construction.

Well... i haven't been in Santiago, Caracas and Mexico, but i know all the stations in Buenos Aires and I can say with shure that São Paulo subway sistem is much better than Bs As sistem. Just because here, i never wait more than 4 or 5 minutes at the station when it's sunday and nobody use the sistem, because weekdays, we wait for less than 2 minutes. In Linea A we have to open the doors with our hands! come on people, it's very bady to use a sistem that is runnin since 1913, nobody like it. And the sound is veryyyyy strong. The new station that some one showed is similiar to many station here in São Paulo. I really want that a people from Buenos Aires show photos from Linea E ( like Avenida La Plata and Plaze de los Vireyes ) and Linea. Its too bad take subway there....

Some Mexico City Subway Facts

Total length of Mexico City subway is now 201.7 km. That does not include a light rail line serving the southern part of the city (18 stations, 18 km. from Tasqueña to Embarcadero).

Number of lines: 11 - all rubber tyred like some lines in Paris and the metros of Montréal and Santiago de Chile; except Line A which has standard steel rail). Except for line 1, all lines have some surface section, and line 4 is entirely on the surface.

The first system that uses symbols and colors for identifying stations.

The Mexico City metro is the cheapest subway system in the world, and it has one of the biggest transfer stations in the world: Pantitlán, terminus of lines 1, 5, 9, A, and tens of local bus lines.

From the line 2 southern terminus Tasqueña, a high-floor light rail line runs to Xochimilco (18 stations). This line was upgraded from a former tram line, and opened in two stages: 1986 Tasqueña - Estadio Azteca, 1988 Huipulco - Xochimilco.

Brazil has always been neglected in the latin american context. It's not surprising that they leave Sao Paulo out of this comparison. Sao Paulo's subway is one of the best and most efficient in the AMERICAS. Put Sao Paulo below Caracas or Buenos Aires is at least LAUGHABLE, but I agree that Mexico City and Santiago have the best systems in the region.

Mexico Df has the best system in Latin and South America without a doubt. Perhaps instead of lavishing extra billions on "fancy" stations, BA could follow the model of an efficient, utilitarian system which covers the km's and reaches/moves a bigger majority of the people.

I don't judge metro systems on "pretty", rather how they get the job done. Afterall, that's their main purpose and affect on a city. In which case MC wins by many lengths.

First I go with Santiago because of its modern system plus its cleanliness.

Mexico second for its extensive beautiful system.

Caracas for its modernism

Buenos Aires. Old system of some 55kms completely underground.

Also I can't believe why Medellin, Sao Paulo and Rio aren't included in this thread. I'd prefer it's because the one who created it just forgot adding those cities, which would make the mistake just a little more forgivable; since it would be considered just a mistake, otherwise I would consider it discrimination and I wanna not believe something like that, am I wrong?

:) Great fotos! reminds me of the Miami metro. How come Bogota doesn't have a metro but Medellin does. I know it has a metro bus system but i mean an actual metro,

The reason why Bogota does not have a metro system, is partly because of territorial (space) issues and due to the fact that a metro system would not be as easily financed as a masive bus system such as the one currently operating.

However, TransMileno, Bogota's growing bus system, is believed to be the most efficient and best public bus transportation network ever built in the entire Latin American region (read from Mexico to Argentina, including Brazil).

This system transports larger masses of people than a regular metro system, which would also be a few times more expensive to built. The system has been so successfull, that cities such as Santiago de Chile, Curitiba, Brazil (I believe), a few other cities in Colombia such as Cali and Pereira and even cities in the Asian continent (in places such as South Korea and India) are already implementing or at least planning similar systems to Bogota's TransMilenio.

( I don't know hot to make a quote yet )

I don't know if you know, but Curitiba has this kind sistem since 1970 or 1980... Bogoa was based on Curitiba system, not the oposite. In really, the bus exclusive roads, with the tubes and terminals was planned to be built in Rio de Janeiro, but was made in Curitiba. Here in Brazil, Curitiba is very know for your good quality of life and well urban planning.

For information
Santiago and Mexico subway are rubber-tired because these subway systems was parcially partially by the RATP (compagny of Paris subway, RATP develloped rubber-tired metro) in 60's 70's

Mexico city metro is the biggest rubber-tired system in the world.

I can't vote all these subway system are quite good

Buenos Aires: Historic
Mexico city : Dense
Santiago: Very modern
