The project for rehabilitation and dualisation of the Walton Road, starting from the Ferozepur Road to the Khayabane-e-Iqbal Junctions, in the Lahore cantonment area, has been completed at a cost of Rs. 221 million.

LDA Director General Shahid Mehmood said this during a meeting here on Tuesday. He said dual carriageway was 36-feet wide on each side and a separate cycle track, with a width of three feet, had also been established along both sides of the road.

The director general said the remodelling of the two junctions had also been carried out under this project, besides constructing an underground drain for quick disposal of storm water for avoiding early depletion of road and ensuring its permanence. A six-feet wide footpath has been built on this drains for pedestrians, he added.

He said that traffic safety devices had been put up on this road and separate traffic lanes had been earmarked for speedy and slow moving vehicle, besides putting up traffic signs for the convenience of vehicles.

He said the work on the Lahore Roads Rehabilitation Programme (Phase-II), at a cost of more than Rs 14 billion, was being carried out vigorously and future requirements of city traffic were also being taken care of while designing the projects.

Beside remodelling and widening of a number of existing roads as well as constructing new roads linking the far flung areas of the city, the programme also includes building of Shalimar interchange in Mughal Pura at a cost of more than Rs 2 billion.

I don't know if its everyone or just be, but looking at all these pictures gives me nothing about the actual progress of road.

maybe someone who is acquainted with these places appropriate places so that we can see what is being done.

well, Guys these days the work on airport road junction is going very fast.Actually 2-3 days ago i went to airport and I was wonder to see the progress in just 2-3 months.Below these flyovers they hjave complted the structures of two underpasses on both sides of road.one is at airport crossing,second one at in front of Hyatt hotel.Might be there first priority is underpasses rather then flyovers.Also after completion this will really look very great.Before this i havnt heard abt these underpasses.Anyone know anout the exact map of airport road interchanges.

It seems work on this project is now going at the same speed as the Zero Point Interchange in Islamabad.

No, they are holes for that thing that's on the back (don't know how to explain it, made of black pipes), and the spare wheel and the fuel tank.

Well, this map is also an older version. The one that i posted above is after the latest revisions of LRR southern lobe. You can see that the road is also passing through Kahna now, which was not in the plan before.

that map you posted in nespak report is wrong as it shows airport road section going through barki road, which was one of the oldest plans in 2004 when the project started, its now being made right infront of the airport on airport road.

i think the map in the nespak is the latest one... the airport section is already marked as consturcution pakcage in yellow line.. the map on nespak is latest

For others, just put the name of the place with optionally the city in google and Google Maps will show it to you before the search results. Try putting in Jinnah Airport Karachi for example. For a lot of places the city name isn't even needed.

I salute the courage and patience of these workers for this hard labor in such a burning hot weather in poor safety conditions. Hardly any of them would ever be able to afford a car to drive on these roads. Its a pity, though i hope Govt of fulfills its promises about delivering education opportunities to the children of these poor families.

Good question. Although like the Korgani-Defence road in Karachi, it might just be too long (as in the exits are too far from each other) for donkey carts to be using them.

Finally the work on ring road Airport section is in full swing, they have awarded the contract to khalid and rauf and i think they have cancelled the contract with J & K, and hope the section will be complted in 1 month time

khalid rauf was a mpa in PML Q GOV. dont knwo what he is now

there is a lot of work still pending... went there last night, they are also working in night shifts but a lot of work to be done.. i hope they complete it soon coz its been over 2 years now...

and yea.. they must also do something abt the Bhatta Chowk, there was a flyover planned but still a plan i guess. this area is becoming a serious bottleneck....

they r saying that it will be completed at the end of September.........

cmy dear nice updated pics i visited this area 8 months ago when i was in pak there is lot of progress in lahore. i can see main ent of park view which was designe in my office & we were workoing on that project & i was working also on park view new plans at that time some years ago & i can see divine gardens which was executive city named before when i was working on that project too 6 years ago but right now it is extended. dear cmy in ur main master layout plan of lahore the width of the ring road is almost 2000 feet as per photoshop presentation so we cant see exact running area of the ring roas specially from ghazi road to phase 5. take care salam:)

Why are these roads elevated in open areas? Seems to me as if they are just wasting money! Elevated roads are vere expensive, and should only be built when the surroundings are saturated. Until then, it is an overkill and waste of funds.

I think, and I might be wrong here, it is a turn which is why its elevated. Because otherwise they would have to either go underground or install a signal and installing signal defeats the purpose. I wonder if going underground would have been cheaper? Digging and covering seems easy enough, would someone better informed than myself care to speculate?

yea ^^ you are right its a turn toward ariport and they cant have signal on it as its signal free road.

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif inspected the Ring Road Package-10 Interchange GT Road here on Sunday.

The chief minister said that the Ring Road Package-10 GT Road Interchange project would be a milestone in the development of the province. He said that the completion of the project would leave a positive impact on the development of the area.

He issued orders to plant maximum trees for the beautification of the project. The government is improving infrastructure throughout the province under a comprehensive strategy, he said, adding that in addition to construction of new roads, the existing roads were also being widened and improved. He said that a mega project for the rehabilitation of roads was being implemented in the provincial metropolis to avoid traffic jams and the provision of better communication facilities to the citizens. He said the project of widening the Multan Road had been launched while modern parking plazas were also being constructed.

The Commissioner Lahore Division gave a briefing about the project.

The Chief Minister said that Ring Road Package-10 GT Road Interchange project will prove to be a milestone in the development of the province. He said that completion of this project will leave a positive impact on the development of the area and result in better transport facilities to the masses.

He directed to plant maximum trees for the beautification of the project.

He said that the government is improving infrastructure throughout the province under a comprehensive strategy while in addition to construction of new roads, the existing roads are also being widened and improved. He said that a mega project for the rehabilitation of roads is being implemented in the provincial metropolis for saving the citizens from traffic jams and provision of better communication facilities to the citizens. He said that the project of widening of Multan Road has been launched while modern parking plazas are also being constructed. He said that a high standard of construction work, timely completion of projects as well as transparent utilization of every penny of development funds is being ensured.

Giving a briefing regarding GT Road Interchange, Commissioner Lahore Division said that work is being carried out on the project round the clock and it will be completed by December 24 at a cost of Rs 1.26 billion.

hope they don't plant poplars. the poplars are a long-term pain in the ass, like those along canal road.

Chinese firm to join Ring Road project

LAHORE: Punjab government and China State Construction and Engineering Company (CSCEC) have decided to cooperate in Lahore Ring Road and Rawalpindi Expressway projects and a team of Chinese company will visit Lahore on October 15 to settle details in this regard. The company will also complete its ongoing project of Software Park at Ferozpur Raod within timeframe.

This was decided in a meeting between Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and a delegation of China State Construction and Engineering Company led by its vice president and representative in Pakistan, Ye Wenquan at Chief Minister's Secretariat, here on Sunday. The Chief Minister said that Pakistan and China are bound together in strong ties of friendship and China has played a commendable role in the progress and development of Pakistan. He said that there is a wide scope of foreign investment and cooperation in various sectors in Punjab and China is already extending full cooperation in this regard. He said that Punjab government is implementing a comprehensive programme for the rapid development of the province and uplift of the masses and special attention is being paid to infrastructure development. He said that Lahore Ring Road and Rawalpindi Expressway are important projects in the development of the province and keeping in view this fact he had signed an agreement with the Chinese company during his visit to China. He said that this project is now being given a practical shape. He said that implementation of these projects will not only result in better communication facilities to the masses but will also leave a positive impact on the provincial economy. He said that the company should complete its ongoing project of Software Park at Ferozpur Road as early as possible as the project has already been delayed due to inept planning and strategy of the former rulers due to which the present government has to bear an additional expenditure of one billion rupees. He said that a special committee headed by Addl. Chief Secretary has also been constituted which will take immediate measures for removing all hurdles in the way of early completion of the project. He said that the company should also extend cooperation for converting software park into information technology park.

Vice President of China State Construction & Engineering Company Ye Wenquan assured that the company will complete software park within stipulated period while a special team will visit Lahore in the second week of October to settle details with regard to construction of Lahore Ring Road and Rawalpindi Expressway.
Additional Chief Secretary, Secretaries Finance, Information Technology, Communication and Works, Commissioner Lahore Division and Vice Chairman Investment Board were also present on the occasion.

anybody have any idea about this thing that will they protect the whole ring road by constructing walls along both sides of the road like they have done along a small portion near saggian interchnge ? because if they do not construct this along the whole ring road the people wont use the cross overs or fly overs that are built for crossing the road..and this could cause some major accidents

well i had a brief visit of ring road yesterday at airport side...it was nice to see that construction work was going at its full pace :) .. and i think its possible to complete that part till end of this year...

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has said that the projects of Lahore Ring Road and Rawalpindi Expressway would go a long way to improve infrastructure and development activity of the province.
Talking to a delegation of the China State Construction & Engineering Company led by its Vice-President of Overseas Department Mr Wang Li here on Monday the Chief Minister said that the Punjab government was giving attention to improving infrastructure, which has to ensure rapid development and prosperity in the province.
During the meeting, held at the CM Secretariat, the Chief Minister and the Chinese delegates discussed in detail matters regarding Lahore Ring Road, Rawalpindi Expressway and cooperation between the two countries in other various projects.
The Chief Minister said that Pakistan and China had long-standing bonds of friendship wherein China always played a commendable role in the development and progress of Pakistan and stood by us in every hour of need like a true friend. He said that China was already extending help to Punjab in different sectors.
He told the delegation that the government was carrying out a comprehensive programme for rapid development of the province and prosperity of the masses and for that, special attention was being paid to infrastructure development. He said that Lahore Ring Road and Rawalpindi Expressway projects were of vital importance for the progress of the province and keeping in view this fact he had signed an agreement with the Chinese company regarding these projects. He said that details were being finalised for implementation of this agreement. He said that completion of Lahore Ring Road and Rawalpindi Expressway projects would result in provision of better transportation facilities to the masses and would leave a positive impact on the development process of the province.
Shahbaz said the China State Construction Company and Punjab govt could form a joint investment company for the implementation of these projects. He said China State Company should complete the IT Centre at Ferozpur Road within the time-frame set for this project as delay in completion of the project was already costing additional expenditure of Rs 1b to the Punjab govt. He expressed the desire for cooperation with the Chinese company in various projects in future as well.
Vice-President China State Construction & Engineering Company Mr Wang Li said that he had come to Lahore for cooperation in Lahore Ring Road and Rawalpindi Expressway projects and to finalise details in this regard. He said that these projects would prove to be a milestone in the development of the province. He said the IT Centre would be completed by April, while the Company would extend assistance in different projects as well.
Additional Chief Secretary, Vice Chairman Investment Board, Director General LDA, Secretaries of Communication & Works and Finance and Commissioner Lahore Division were also present on the occasion.

well yes i think we still have to wait for about 4 to 5 months or may be moreeee to follow this route for going to airport...however once completed this will be an excellent route to go to airport :banana:

well let me correct myself....the work has been completed 100% only uptil mehmood buti interchange....after that point a lot of work is yes to be done on ring road...however construction work is at its full pace ...

its useless to wash and scrub everything out there....our people will never let it remain clean and cool for ever...as u can see in the pic where boys are playing cricket on green round belt...this pic is at Niazi interchange ...i saw the same situation on saggian interchange and a month before that greenry looked so beautiful but now it was giving a look of just a play ground :bash:

its sad how these brand new interchanges look soooo olddd and dusty....funny thing is one day of work can fix most of it im sure...new paint on the concrete barriers ....and they need road cleaning equipment like CDGK has.....and give the wholw thing a wash.....the areas where these interchanges are congested areas and im sure if they can free out space to build interchanges they can free up some land buy buying out some houses near the interchange for a freakin damn park so that youth and individuals can go there.....

btw ....anddd they need new road markingss...how can they fade out sooo quicklyy...

no it doesnt end... from airport to phase 5 dha portion is not under construction... but from phase 5 to sui gas colony section is getting constructed in full swing

both the underpasses... Mughalpura and Harbanspura will be open for traffic before the end of november.. rest of these projects will be finished in due course of time..!!

they have to block the access to ring road by installing fences on both sides of ring road...even though over head bridges are constructed after every 800 meters on ring road...but still our people are not using them to cross the road...:bash:
