Industrial zones are only on the highways usually.........so there is no question of industrial kill.......They manage everything inside that Industrial zone........

yups i used to b in kuwait , there are total 7 ring roads in the country, (not a very big country ,can be compared to karachi in area) and there is no concept of toll tax on any of the roads!

Almost all Middle East, many countries of Europe donot charge toll tax atleast on Ring road ........

the authorities might already have the idea of introducing toll tax at this road. but that can only be done once the whole loop of ring road is complete.

^^ but they will have to make sure that the toll they collect is properly spent for that purpose than.corruption should not be tolerated...as we all know that our federal govt is collecting toll tax at River ravi bridge from the time of independence! it was constructed during the rule of British. and its life was given as 50 years.now its over 100 years old and still its not reconstructed..even not any major repair work is carried out at it yet! however the toll tax system at motorways is working smoothly but it also had some reports of corruption!

Sorry but I just don't get why the gov can't buy a few decent road paving machines and set good road standards....everything in pakistan is done by the lowest bidder who also has to take his cut...and to top it off there are no standards for anything (pavement thickness, smoothness, concrete barrier, road lights, cat eyes, road markets etc). E.g. some roads apparently have road lights but the lights are just to small/inefficient at lighting the road and I have to drive with my high-beam on - and I'm a guy with 20/20 vision.
Everything speaks of absolute lack of quality control. So yeah i'm happy a road has been built, but its pretty pathetic.

I've also been on the portion near airport...that area is just ridiculous...you've got like 3 two-way roads right next to each other. very confusing, unnecessary and inefficient!

Point of clarification, I was driving 85 miles or roughly 125kM speeds and did enjoy the drive even though I had to keep close watch of people crossing with little concern. Pakistan can not afford to built steal bridges which they are in the US.....14trillion dollar VS 170 billion dollar economy with 170million people in a country size of Texas. Anyway I am just glad that change is taking place in a country where things dont change very easily. i totally agree. they lay the road, but its never perfect. has any one experienced the seventh avenue and 9th avenue in islamabad?? the lighter weight honda civic cannot go beyond 90 km if your are expecting a smooth drive.

i have never been to US, but malaysian roads are worst then pakistan. trust me, i can debate on it. also, we can now compare ourself to the ones in middle east.

one good thing about pakistani roads is, that we hardly have any toll. specially inside a city. i think this phenomenon makes the over all quality difference.

LRR is no where near Town ship or Wapda Town yet.... airport section is not complete either

well GoBaby, yes you are right the roads lately constructed are of poor quality in last gov era all the roads have poor standars, but the roads which are getting constructed now by fwo are of very high standars.

like peco road walton road the roads work was finished and roads were open, but CM asked them to redo the carpeting and they are of good standards.

I think because of #@$@$%@#%@#%@#$ donkey carts and #$@@%#$^#$! jaywalkers and pedestrians, no road in Pakistan is designed to let you go above 80-90 kph max during the day. Really pisses me off. Only place where you can is the motorway, all roads should be like that, but in an overpopulated country it's not possible.

brother, i have been to Kuwait twice and trust me pakistani motorways are much better than Kuwaiti highways in every respect, as for LRR people keep forgetting that LRR is still under construction and still final carpeting, landscape, lane marking and other civil work is still not final on package 6 & 7, soo my suggestion is just wait for the final innagurationa and then we can debate the quality of the fisnished road ..i am sure it would look great once they complete the landscape work along LRR....

People...at least read posts before replying! I've already said that my friend thought the road was part of LRR....he probably was misinformed.

@Strong_Hearted: why does it piss you off when I compare ring road to US roads? you think we dont deserve a good road in pakistan? I heard shahbaz sharif on TV yesterday...and he said that the project is worth 5 Billion Rs...that's a lot of money! NESPAK & NLC mean nothing if the quality of he work is not acceptable. As of us being behind US...we're not talking about nuclear or military technology here....we're talking about a simple bridge. They can just get a free-lance civil engineer from europe or US to design a good looking one (hell even steal a design from the web) and then use that design through out LRR...but they've used ancient girder style design which, in my book, is quite appaling. Mega projects like LRR aren't started or upgraded often...so they should be done once and done right!

As of the LRR section in front of the airport...I go there almost every week...and it is carpeted now! has been for the last few weeks. Also, my objection wasn't about lack of carpeting...but lack of eveness over the length of the road...only few users have understood what I'm trying to say. People who've driven cars in germany know exactly what I'm talking about!

Also, I'm not talking about too many lanes...I'm talking about too few. You'll see what I'm talking about when you go there....You have a one-way LRR...then right next to it is a 15-foot deep concrete barsaati naala (I swear our country is obsessed with open-air nalaas)...and then right next to it is another one-way road that goes to/comes back from the airport. The only way that setup makes sense is if they are planning on taxing entire LRR.

@brighside: I hear ya man...but I think its the technical inability of the people building the roads..which is responsible for uneven roads. Just look at the pictures of the equipment being used for paving LRR - the machinery is ancient!

Don't get me wrong, I love Pakistan as much as any one of you here...but that does not mean that we sould accept lower standards. We have a really good CM...so if enough people speak up then I'm sure the quality/designs of the projects would get better!

You are correct! Its 85 Billion for 43kms....for entire 77km it would have costed 150 Billion!

Still that further enforces my point...that a project costing over US$ 1Billion - the quality & design should be top notch. I guess we'll wait and see how this turns out :)

just came back from airport! that area of ring road was looking damn sexy! all the road lights were on . did'nt have my camera with me :ohno: so took the pics from my mobile cam .but it was really looking awesome! and ye the carpeting is still not complete ! the service roads and airport road is open for trafic but ring road is not open !

the service lane is operational, and there is no point of opening the airport rin road section as you can not use it, as the interchange bridge in not completed and you cant go any where, so the delay is not causing any harm.

their pace of work on ring road interchanges is commendable.. the amount of work done on this DHA interchange is also very impressive...

Interchange is at the start of DHA Phase 6 Boulevard........

If u are going to Airport on defense Road, take right from Bhatta Chowk,it is around 8-10 min. from there on Bedian road........

then i was very close to this interchange but i did'nt realize and made a u turn back to bhatta chowk!

great pics stronghearted and J_sultan. This portion that Stronghearted took pictures of looks nice but I expected the road to be a bit wider. It looks like its only 3 lanes each side. I thought It would be a bit like middle-eastern, british ring roads. 4 lanes each side.

What a beautiful thing is happening in Lahore..............mega projects like this are never cheap to begin with but once completed would change the way we live. This would also have positive impact against pollution as we burn much fuel sitting in traffic or driving slow around city. It is natural that we would save fuel while driving highway speeds since the internal combustion engines are not using most fuel when stuck in traffic, idling in traffic, or driving slow speeds etc.
So dont worry about the small projects for a short time.......I guarantee they would happen since no new government has the choice of not doing such things. If N.Sharif makes a come back at national level.......indeed much would happen in a very rapid succession since they need to prove to the people that PML (N) means business for few years before they start messing things up again. In the end if it was not for N.Sharif we would not have the roads and highways revolution.

I hope once this huge project is finish, they don't forget to maintain the ring road. Otherwise 10 years from now the condition of this road will be that of every other road in Pakistan.

Not sure what we can do , but we need to get rid of dirt from Lahore especially - there should be a major major project on it !


P.S: I saw tuff tilles being installed on Jail road's side walks killing all dirt :) lets hope every patch of dirt is covered by tuff tile someday.

Indeed those are banana trees........any monkeys should not get too excited cause Lahore is too far north for Banana's to actually really flourish and produce fruit.

yes package 7 is almost ready. all the 4 loops are carpeted , only lane marking , light poles and green work in the loops is now left!

CM Inaugurates package VI of LRR

LAHORE - Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has said that the entire province was portraying the picture of ruins when the PML-N took the responsibility of the government.
He expressed these views while addressing the inaugural ceremony of Allama Iqbal Airport, Ring Road Phase (VI) on Wednesday.
The CM said the previous government in its eight-year rule had done nothing for the development of the province but only looted the country and the province. He said the provincial government has tackled many difficulties for taking up the project of Ring Road afresh, as the previous government did nothing and just befooled the masses in the name of development.
Shahbaz Sharif said that Rs15 billion were expensed on the project of Ring Road and the provincial government would feel proud when the masses would utilise the Ring Road, as it would cut their travel’s duration besides other comforts.
He said anybody could compare the performance of the previous and the current provincial govt by seeing the Ring Road project, as the incumbent provincial govt truly believes in the service of the people and not in mere slogans.
Chief Minister Punjab appreciated the role of NLC administration for the project of Ring Road, while he also hailed the performance of FWO that took up the same project in the previous govt of PML-N.
He, while hailing the services of the Commissioner Lahore, Khusroo Pervaiz regarding the Ring Road project, said that the Commissioner Lahore was the leading soul behind this project. Shahbaz also praised the role of Punjab Cabinet regarding the Ring Road project, especially the provincial revenue minister.

In my opinion, (unfortunately) Sharif Brothers think Punjab is only Lahore as the Federal Government considers Islamabad as whole Pakistan. Everyone knows that the large cities have more problems but the smaller cities also have great infrastructural problems and they also need attention. CM (I like him) announced few projects for Rawalpindi but all are on papers only nothing on ground. Sorry I may be little jealous that Lahore is getting much much attention but other parts of Punjab very little and that would definitely leave impact during next elections.

This snap is between Wapda Town gool chaker and College Road. Also known as Southern ByPass.

^^ yes and after wapda town round about that road goes straight to the road at which lahore expo and shoukat khanum are situated .right? i think that road is known as jinnah evenue

They called this road as khayaban-e-Jinnah........

Its also the Southern Bypass of Lahore........

Wow the R.R is taking shape finally.....thanks to S.Sharif's diligence to get this project finished otherwise next 20 years would have been out of the question under previous Govt. They did not do much for their own city after 8 years being in power.

Thanks for a great up date and by any chance if you happen to be in the area of package 6-7 please do post some pics. Some of us not being there have to rely on your support.
